Thivby Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Hey guys! I'm pretty new on the topic of visual novels, and I'd like to know if any of you have some recommendations for a new guy? As a reference: I just finished Katawa Shoujo, and I loved it! Hanako's route hit me pretty hard.. Dem feels tho =c Quote
Overlord87 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I think you might like Grisaia no Kajitsu, a good "second step" into this world and in some ways a similar experience to Katawa Shoujo. Apart from that, if you tell us what you like, we can point you to more titles. Romance? Comedy? Action? Mistery? Sci-Fi? Sex scenes? Quote
Thivby Posted June 22, 2017 Author Posted June 22, 2017 Well I'm open to anything. I don't really know what I like and don't like yet, so I'm open for suggestions. Although I probably don't like Sci-Fi Quote
Asonn Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Libra of the Vampire Princess just released. an amazing experience everyone should try. HMN 1 Quote

See this thread for info on why. Hmm, have you checked out the 50 translated VNs you should read before you die thread? Lots of great VN recommendations for beginners there. My personal recommendations would be Grisaia no Kajitsu and Eden*. DarkZedge and Canicheslayer 2 Quote

My personal recommendations would be Grisaia no Kajitsu and Eden*. +1 You should try "classics" like Clannad (the graphics are old, but the rest is, globally, very solid and memorable) or Steins;Gate. Or you could play to the excellent VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action Edited June 22, 2017 by Canicheslayer Quote
MarcoCorvus21 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Planaterian Lucy ~ The eternity she wished for They're pretty good. And won't take too much of your time. If you finished Grisaia and really liked it, try Cross†Channel, a more messed up group in a loop. Quote
littleshogun Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Libra sticky issue aside (It's up to you to find out if you could understand it or not though), there's HatsuKoi which is a slice of life VN, Dies Irae and 11eyes if you want some action VN, Clannad if you want some touching story (Symphonic Rain as well), or maybe you could try sci fi like Root Double there. Hope those recommendations help. Quote
PapaRabbi Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Majikoi is my favourite series so I guess I'll recommend that Quote
Albedo Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Saya no Uta will give you warm and fuzzy feelings. If you don't mind gameplay, 999 is a pretty good, newbie-friendly mindfuck (though it is kind-of Sci Fi.) Ever 17 is the original version, and while in my opinion is better, it also has some serious pacing issues. And Symphonic Rain's pretty good, too (dem feels) Quote
Meykkei Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 +1 to the Grisaia series If you liked Katawa Shoujo... then maybe give Cross Channel and Sharin no Kuni a try? I'm not a fan but you could also like Little Busters Quote

I'm not a fan but you could also like Little Busters I would not suggest Cross Channel to a newcomer. I love that VN, but it's not exactly an 'easy' read. Sharin no Kuni is really good, and probably better for someone entering the VN world (although I feel Grisaia would work better as "entry level" material). I'll also add G-Senjou no Maou if you like mindfuck stories à la Death Note. Quote
