Sparteh Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 To put it simply, Dies Irae ruined my VN playing experience...I can't find anything I like after playing that epic masterpiece. I know I want some good old fashion fighting. I loved Umineko due to real vs magic fight, Fate/Stay Night for ideals, Tokyo Babel because of all mythological stuff and Dies Irae...well for basically everything. After Dies Irae I tried Comyu...didn't like it. Can someone recommend me fighting VNs with any interesting backstory? I was thinking of retrying Shinigami no Testament, but am looking for better alternatives. Translation status does not matter, but would prefer something average or below average in terms of Japanese difficulty when it comes to untranslated VNs Quote
Guest Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Other Fate games, You could also try the other games from the same series as dies Irae (Kajiri Kamui Gakura and Paradise Lost). Quote
Guest Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I can't forget to mention Muv Luv Alt (Sequel!) which is (apparently, never actually read) one of the best VNs out there. Quote
Clephas Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Ayakashibito Eien no Aselia (Aselia the Eternal) Seinarukana (Aselia's sequel) Untranslated Gensou no Idea Sorcery Jokers Hello, Lady (there are difficult parts, but it is worth it) Sinclient Evolimit (same writer as Tokyo Babel, science-fantasy concept) Bullet Butlers Chrono-belt (Ayakashibito and Bullet Butlers' crossover fandisc... and seriously awesome overall) Draculius (stick to the true route) Hatsuru Koto Naki Mirai Yori Tiny Dungeon series (I seriously recommend this as the most readable untranslated VN/series on this list by several degrees) Ryuukishi Bloody Saga Ou no Mimi ni wa Todokanai (Done by AXL, may be too heavy on slice-of-life not involved with training or combat for you though) Suisei Ginka Izuna Zanshinken Yurikago yori Tenshi Made Quote
littleshogun Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 As for the recommendation here, I think I could suggest Princess Waltz if you want very light one because the assistant writer for Princess Waltz was also the writer of both Tokyo Babel and Ayakashibito (And Chrono Belt as well). Since you also mentioned Umineko, might as well recommend Rose Guns Days here although there wouldn't be real vs magic fight though like Umineko. I you want shorter VN here, I could recommend Kikokugai here and it was also had newer version translated if you dislike the old graphic. For last recommendation here, I could recommend Pygmalion although it might be had less fighting compared to what you want though - if anything it's more in line with Madoka. Hope my recommendations here help. Quote
Nandemonai Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Huh, no one mentioned Demonbane yet? Well, of the games I've played that might fit the bill, Demonbane is clearly the best. Edit: Also, if you liked Tokyo Babel, take a look at Shadows of Pygmalion (by the same dev). Edited September 28, 2017 by Nandemonai Fred the Barber 1 Quote

I once tried Extella, but wasn't as interested in it. As for KKK and PL, from what I know they are as hard as Dies Irae, therefore reading them in Japanese is way to difficult for me. Actually I am way more interested in your signature. I remember seeing this angel like girl somewhere before, but can't remember where. Could you tell me where it is from? I finished Alternative a year ago. It was indeed good. So good that I finished 50+ hours vn in 3 days. Your lists are impressive as ever. Anyway, just quick question. Which novel has the most Antihero and the most competent MC? From what I know Kikokugai has a lot of rape and I don't like that stuff. On 9/28/2017 at 8:59 AM, Nandemonai said: Huh, no one mentioned Demonbane yet? I was thinking about reading it a while ago, but heard that it contains netorare and tentacle rape. I dislike those things. Really ruins my reading experience. I had enough of reading about strange Japanese fetishes such as worm rape or alien tentacle brain rape (those who read it knows which VNs I mean) which nearly ruined great stories for me. Quote

You could try Fate/Zero the ADV since it's a visual novel adaptation of light novel\anime series and also a prequel to Fate/Stay Night. Tsukihime happens in the same universe as fate and have some interesting fight scenes (especially during Ciel's route), Togainu no Chi have a fighting protagonist but there are some Rape scenes (typical of Yaoi games sadly -_-). Narita Shinri from Hello, Lady is pretty close to perfect in terms of ability, though he has personality issues (to say the least). Izuna Zanshinken's Kotarou is an extremely skilled vigilante assassin. Quote

There technically is. I dislike both of those things too. The thing is there's not much sex in Demonbane at all, and most of it is vanilla. And if you've ever wanted to see giant robots fight Cthulhu, well, that's not a particularly common thing. Haven't gotten around to reading the last route yet, but the two I've been through already are pretty awesome. Quote
Strike105X Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 I'm surprised nobody mentioned Majikoi yet, its not nonstop fighting, but when there is a fight ? Omg its awesome! Quote

You definitely haven't seen the girl in my signature though, she's from Haruka Kanata - my favourite untranslated game and one that noone will ever play, unfortunately. Also she's not an angel, it's just the design of the pic. The image is clickable, by the way - takes you to the official site with great BGM playing in the background.
