FriendlyFire Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 hey guy its been a long time! today I'm here to have some manga customers support, I'm probably starting to work for a spanish manga publisher so I'm asking for manga recmendations and for those that are causing furor in Japan and across the seas, and also for good new releases because the statisfaction of customers is the main priority, the publisher already failed with releases, for example hayate no gotoku, and thats why I'm making this. Also the ones on the poll are those that we are already thinking on publishing, so if you could vote and tell why did you selet that manga I would be very grateful. (Nisekoi is already starting at spain but to mantain it we need some knowledge of the success in other countries. And beforehand, Thanks for the support! Quote
sanahtlig Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Your choice of community to ask this question is going to bias your result. I'd recommend The World God Only Knows simply because it draws attention to VNs and it's quite hilarious. I have no idea if those qualities will resound with your readership, or what Spanish fans of manga even like. And frankly, I don't even read manga. I have however seen 3/4 of the anime for the manga you listed (except for Nisekoi). My recommendation would be to connect with your readership rather than poll English speakers about their preferences. Quote
Down Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 You probably did that already, but why not take as a reference what does and doesn't work in other West markets, such as France and USA? I know the figures aren't readily available, but as an editor you might have the means, I dunno. Basically, something that's a hit in Japan won't necessarily be elsewhere. That's especially true for old authors and shoujos. The only sure hits that can steadily support their editors are shounens hits, and there hasn't been any real hit in Japan recently. The most recent one is Attack on Titans. Everything else can hardly be predicted: it will or won't find its niche of followers. Also, that's only an opinion, but I'm not sure that mangas heavily targeting otakus (ie making tons of reference and being strongly anchored in the otaku subculture) will work. KNzSS and Index are among those. They're published in France but are rather discreet titles overall - yet the market is quite large here. Nisekoi is only starting in France, so I'm not sure. I don't know anything about Sora no Otoshimono. Quote
sanahtlig Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 All of the series listed target otaku. The most mainstream one is probably To aru majutsu no index simply because it's the most shounen. Sora no Otoshimono is a fan service comedy. The World God Only Knows is a romantic comedy. Index is a blend of shounen action and comedy. I actually mixed up Nisekoi with Nisemonogatari; disregard my opinion on that. Timing your release with currently airing anime would probably boost sales (Boosted by anime version, 'Attack on Titan' manga sales top 22 million). Something to think about. The World God Only Knows is currently airing. Nisekoi will air starting in January. Quote
Steve Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I read it as "Need a little girl"... now I'm disappointed on topic, from the anime listed I only saw Index 1 and didn't like it much. Quote
FriendlyFire Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 The poll same for the topic have been made with one objective. Market Research, just not focusing only in Japan, that's why I said "Japan and across the seas" refering in a worldwide way. Here at Spain there aren't actually a lot of readers and the objective is to grow this activity, in this point I'm searching for market techniques for the sell of the product. If we have the problem of not having much readers we have the double objective to make the ones that already read to read even more, and the ones who doesn't to get their attention, and it firstly worked, with Mirai Nikki. Some publishers have their attention on action based manga, and the one I'm talking about entered action based practically this year, so it's like war, a battle to get the more shocking manga and international help is really needed. But don't even think that I'm not working aside of this post. Actually I read every manga that passes through my line of sight and have other opinions, also study the market of other countries and we manage a web page for answers and questions to the publisher and for sure, recommendations. But for now I'm on test to see how good I'm on it so I don't know when I can be fired hahaha This post it's just to have a little help so we can grow the market here, after reading yours suggestions we also study them. PD: Shingeki no Kyojin is already published in Spain by one publisher that's giving a good fight with us Quote
