Toaru Majutsu no Index/ Kagaku no Railgun

Hm. We're talking a lot about index on the forums on random threads. So I decided to create this~
Well, let's just talk about Index and Railgun while comparing powerlevels until our heads blow up~
You should also expect spoilers in a thread like this.
EDIT: if you're not up to date with the LN and don't want spoilers, don't read this.

Well, random question, but would Misaka be able to win against Kanzaki in a fight?

I don't know what other magic kanzaki can use other than what's in the show. assuming she doesn't do much else than what she's been shown to do, misaka could win. she could interrupt and repel attacks made by kanzaki's wires with minimal effort, and as long as she stays out of melee she could just peck at her at range with railguns all day.

I would say the fight would probably be difficult for both of them, as kanzaki would probably be forced to use god breaker just to catch her and that uses a lot of energy. misaka would have to use her magnetism thing to fly around and avoid getting destroyed and that also uses a lot of energy. since most people in this show thus far have been idiots with their powers (accelerator trying to fight touma in melee after getting punched in face many times, for example) it would be an interesting fight to watch.

So, I'll make a poll right now. Which do you think it's the strongest character in Index? I'd have to go with either Aiwass or Touma, but let's see what others think

i think Aiwass is the strongest, but i still voted for accelerator because of his potential

i mean is accelerator even human?

i think touma is not strong, he just has the imagine breaker and a strong will, but i get the feeling accelerator is way beyond that. and hamazura is just extremely lucky.

the Mikoto vs. Kanzaki:

it would be a hard fight but i'll give Mikoto the victory, just as Eldin said Mikoto has her magnetism,

I voted accelerator not just because he's the closest we have to a level 6 and occasionally comes close to transcending to it, but because after he figured out that he can also deflect magic, he became pretty much unstoppable. teleporters seem to be too stupid to try and outright kill him like I said in the other thread, and touma only won because he has mc syndrome and accelerator tried to melee him (even after he realized that it wasn't going to work out well for him).

the author limited his abilities by shooting him in the head, but he's still pretty much the stones.

eldin i don't get it, have you read the novels or not?

and yeah Accelerator is probably going to be level 6 at the very end of the series, or perhaps before, is not like he needs that, but still the title would be good for him considering there's something even stronger than the magic side's saints

Yep. Except Lancer, I think. Since he'd just reflect their noble phantasms, he'd kill them. Lancer noble phantasm meddles with fate though, so I don't know.

Btw, who is your favorite Level 4 on Index? Don't want to make another poll question, so I'll just ask you guys here.

Actually, I noticed that Shiki's and Accelerator's power are rather similar in concept.

They're both vague enough that you can pretty much do anything with it (especially in Accelerator's case) and are thus only limited by a "computing ability" which is ultimately up to the author.

Well, if we are only to look at Accelerator's esper ability, controlling vectors, I think it's actually more defined than Shiki's "Mystic Eyes of Death Perception".

Reason is, in Accelerator's case the question is like: "Does it have a vector?" if so, he can control said vector. Well, you can still use his powers against him, like Kihara did, but overall his powers are less complicated.

Accelerator's power is more of a yes/no question. If it has vectors, Accelerator can control them and that's it.

Shiki's power involves a lot of other variables. We have no idea when his eyes will have an overload and what he can "kill", since "killing" poison left him hospitalized for a lot of time in Kohaku's route.

There are still other questions to Accelerator, of course, and there's more to him than vector control... But, I feel like his ability is more concrete than Shiki's, at the very least. If you decide to take Accelerator more deeply and look at him like an Artificial Angel, I guess things get a little bit more complicated, but "Vector Control" is doubtlessly less vague than "Mystic Eyes of Death Perception".

Btw, my favorite Level 4 is Kuroko.

I call it vague because the author calls it "Vectors control" instead of "Speed vectors control" which is about all I saw Accelerator do during the animated part of Raildex. So he's being vague about what he considers a vector. Because if we take it to the physical sense of the term, a vector is a mathematical representation of a physical quantity that has a value and a direction. The scalar quantities can be changed through vectorial quantities, allowing Accelerator to do literally anything with the physical quantities around him - he could make himself invisible, fly, teleport himself or whatever you can imagine.

But that's only misnaming (or giving himself a narrative joker) and I don't think the author gave any thought to the coherence of everyone's power - nor should I think any harder about this.

Her Offense Armor probably wouldn't be able to stop Mugino's Meltdowner, so I don't know. I'd probably bet on Mugino and Takitsubo.

Gunha is simply to ridiculous. I'm dying to know his actual power and how the hell he does those things.

I'd also place Misaki above Misaka and Mugino.

Btw, the best thing about Kuroko is her voice.
