littleshogun Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I guess in the end it's up to the developer whether they want to adapt the new Sony's policy or not, and if they didn't want to adapt to the new policy because it'll be time consuming, well there's always Switch and Steam although the latter might be changed their mind later though. Otherwise, it's just a baseless accusation. But yeah, Sony is definitely going too far with this. It is just borderline absurd, and it makes even their primary competitor Nintendo seem tame by comparison. Read what i wrote, reread it and then reread it some more. Perhaps you'll take back your silly comment after thinking a bit. Quote
Freestyle80 Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 For us its not a big deal, i dont know many people who even buys VNs on ps4 but it should be a big negative hit for Japan which is ironic because thats where they are based... Quote

It's not just VNs which are affected though, while not outright pohibiting them (yet) Sony targets about any japanese game with fanservice in it. And unfortuantly those are usually poorly ported and/or littered with intrusive DRM on PC (which was one of my 2 main reasons to buy a Console in the first place). At this point I wouldn't even be surprised if they were stupid enough to go after the bigger japanese focused publishers' games like Bandai Namco, Sega or Atlus later on (though I almost hope they do, it might finally lead to the backlash Sony deserves). True if it starts effecting mainstream games its gonna be a problem Lul so are they gonna censor stuff like the Witcher 3 now? Quote

There's a double-standard going on in the western gaming industry where they'll put sexual content in their own games and nobody will bat an eye. Since Sony's censorship policy is specifically targeting the Japanese business side, the western business side will likely fly under the radar with little-to-no alarm bells. Their logic is "As long as it's not anime porn, it's fine." kek Anyway, I feel I need to get this out of the way before this thread turns into another political debate. While it may be understandable to put the blame on SJWs, feminists, and zealous conservatives for the whole censorship issue given that it looks suspicious enough to be agenda-based, keep in mind however that there is currently no evidence to support those claims. The only sources we got are just a couple of news articles explaining the situation and that's about it really. At the moment, it just seems to be really bad PR on Sony's part, so unless there's actual evidence that reveal either of these three groups were behind the policy change in some way, it's best not to delve into baseless accusations that could spark unnecessary drama. If this is true I wonder if Sony are going full censorship or if they are just messing with japanese devs for lols? Quote

Unfortunately, that's not really the case. In the past there's been a lot of VNs that are released on Sony's systems before being ported to PC or something else later (if ever) and being a port that means the PC version would automatically be effected. The new CG is actually more revealing than the original. But I guess that's a good thing? At least they aren't nuking it with light rays. Though if they're going to start requesting devs to make new art for ports I have a feeling not all companies will be onboard with that, so it could turn out to be an issue as well I guess. Quote
