Heyo people, I recently played through quite a bit of Grasesta, after playing some of the other Eushully titles, and noticed that both the interface patches and the MTL translation are kinda... meh.
So I sadly on a whim decided to retranslate it while playing, which will happen regardless of the poll above, however I thought of asking the community (or at least a small part of it) whether there are people that would appreciate me sharing it, and maybe even polishing it a bit.
This would be mostly be done for me, but that's how a lot of projects start...

I'd also appreciate if you got any info an already existing translation project for Grasesta if you could let me know. The only one I found was from Rhapsody Translation and I found no information on it (as such I suppose it's not gonna happen)
Feel free to share your thoughts on the game and the possibility of a translation, as feedback is always a good thing ('cept when it isn't).

I wasn't sure whether to post this in Visual Novel Talk or here, but this seemed more proper..

It's a good choice.  Grasesta is literally the only stand-out game by Eushully in a decade (sadly, including their most recent game, Hyakujou).  As far as I know Grasesta doesn't have an ongoing translation project.  There is very little I don't like about Grasesta, which is a harder feat to achieve for a gameplay VN than you might think.  I love the crazy personalities some of the heroines (you probably know which ones) have, and I love the protagonist.  I love the prologue, and I even like the antagonists.  

This game is somewhat lore-heavy, but relative to the rest of the games in this setting, it isn't so heavy on lore that you couldn't grasp it on your own coming in as your first Eushully game.  Since it is based in a different region from most of the rest of the games, I doubt anyone will get on your case if you make a few mistakes about region names and the like.

Before you get too far in, I would suggest deciding whether you will use and translate the append content, as it is mostly extra details about events prior to the game, as well as cameos and easter eggs.  While I'm sure most people will be urging you to translate it, it isn't really necessary if you don't have the energy to do so once you finish the rest of the game.  I

I answered 2 on the second question, but my definition of MTL doesn't include using parsers or using it to figure out the meaning of individual words to save time, just to let you know.  As such, I won't be annoyed if you use MTL in those senses.

Well I did finish Amayui and Kamidori as those were the ones that brought me over to Eushully and recently got through the first Ikusa Megami game, so I might try to sync up the names that are the same or at the very least those that had entries in the in-game "wikis" and depending on how the game engine handles text I might make areas and names have both the translation and the kanji, however I kinda doubt that'll be possible.

Both of these kind of depend on how hard are Eushully games to disassemble and how much time will have to be wasted on text fixes and such. The only part that might come out as machine translation would be the H-scenes as I have zero experience translating those..
Also pretty sure that if you consider parsers as MTL then there are almost no MTL free translations.

 

But I'll be deciding and sharing all the details if there'll be enough people interested in it, for now I'm just taking notes and translating on the go, without touching the game itself.

A Progress report for those that somehow care.

Got the necessary tools to edit most things, only struggling with how things go back together, but that is just a question of trial and error. I have some ideas that have to be tested.

On another note, redrawing will be needed, and unless I find someone proficient at it, it's going to look.. not ideal (as it will be made by me, a person with negative art quality). There's enough time for that though.

And finally I'll be making a post later with live progress and beta versions of the patch.

Fuukan is one of Eushully's games I've been looking forward for a translation the most as it seemed like it went away from the more... friendly style of kamidori or amayu and towards the darker tones of Ikusa but not too dark either.  Will be following your progress with subdued anticipation. Good luck and remember to have fun.

Personally speaking I would prefer if you're not using MTL at all, although I understand if you use that just to save the time (Not that I can called out anyone who use it anyway seeing I was involved in Amayui patch). Anyway, if I may suggest something, you can use Jisho to check whichever kanji that you've stumbled with, and as for the sex scenes let's just say most of the lines would be moans which should be easy to translate lol. Well, good luck on the project, and I hope you'll manage to finish it unlike the previous one.
