No mention of Chrono Cross here? It's OST is and will always be one of the best OST of all time:

Also, another more obscure track from Yasunori Mitsuda, my fav video game music composer of all time:

Since PhantomJS posted Chrono Cross opening, I'll go with posting the ending. So enjoy.

Also for a bonus here's Frozen Flame theme in which is appropriately chilling.

Speaking of Mitsuda, I just realized a few days ago that the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 OST came out fairly recently. I loved everything about the game, and the soundtrack was an integral part of the experience. Sadly, it's way better in the context of the game than it is for standalone listening, but it's still got some amazing stuff that takes my breath away to listen to.

0:56 is fucking magic, as is the guitar solo around 3:25. 3:47 also kicks my ass.

The only unfortunate thing about this soundtrack is that the song titles got a lot of Engrish translations, which is especially disappointing given how phenomenal the game's translation was.

There is a lot of good soundtracks for video games.

I grow up on fantasy soundtracks from Heroes of Might & Magic 3, Baldurs Gate or Planescape Torment

But in recent years I started to listen more cyberpunk soundtracks. These from the Deus Ex games are superb for me.

What do you think about them?:)

Here's the opening for Tales of Phantasia PSX version which I did play that several years ago. Enjoy.

PS - Also to note that the SNES opening did also have the vocal song, in which it's quite an accomplishment seeing that back at 1995 it widely accepted that it would be impossible to add vocal song into the cartridge. As for PSX opening here, you can say that it's should be iconic because it's the localized PSX JRPG (Unofficial though) with Japanese vocal song, which is a big deal more than it sounds because back then many localized JRPG for PS1 did cut the vocal and change it to instrumental - Tales series were the one who suffer from that policy.

This was great to hear, thanks for sharing ;)

Seeing that I'd find Sartorius's theme from Duel Link is quite chilling especially with the Arcana Force cards rotating sound effect, I'll add his theme here.

Enjoy.

Decided to post Xenogears's final boss theme, in which it's quite an epic one called Awakening (I don't know though if someone already post this beforehand or not).

Enjoy.

Here's one soundtrack from Atelier Ayesha that I keep remembering recently, and enjoy.

PS - Currently I play Ayesha and I'm about to enter the ending (Already defeated the final boss), although I still don't know though whether I'll continue to Escha & Logy or trying to replay Ayesha again considering that I feel that I can do it much better earlier.

Recently like to hear Morphogenetic Sorrow from 999 below in which it's a sad song within the story, although some fans would like to think that they finished sudoku back when they play DS version of it.

I'm not sure if this is the right section considering that 999 was also VN, but regardless of that enjoy the soundtrack (And perhaps you may use it as the soundtrack when you finished sudoku like I did).

Here's two songs from the game that I recently like to hear even though admittedly I never play those games in the first place.

Valine from 13 Sentinels Aegis

Enemy of God from Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse

Enjoy.

Asura's Wrath's musics are interesting, but listening to them can be awkward since they may sound like religious music.

Catherine's spin on classical musics on its OST was a surprise, but a good one nonetheless.

Celeste's OST is great for setting up them mood of their respective parts in the game, with some musics even being relevant for the message being given.

Dissidia 012, being a crossover of multiple Final Fantasy games, has many iconic musics, and the original musics are also pretty good.

Final Fantasy VI and VII's OST work pretty well for their respective motifs.

Final Fantasy XII is great for orchestral musics in both versions of its OST (PS2 one, and remaster one), as well as not following the cliché of music styles you'd expect for a given region.

The God of War franchise has plenty of interesting musics in that vocal Greek style (gonna confirm at some point if it's indeed a Greek style, though).

The Mary Skelter franchise is also great within its premise, with musics being played in a rhythm just odd enough to sound wrong, but without being easy to pinpoint what is wrong.

Odin Sphere and Okami have good musics for their contexts, although, alone, they sound kinda meh most of the time.

Persona 3 (all 3? 4? 5? versions) follow the same idea as Celeste's, if not being even more incisive with how long the game is.

I find Shantae and the Pirate's Curse to be a gem in so many aspects, and the OST is no different.

Songs for a Hero is, well, a game whose whole premise is that the protagonist sings based on what is happening in the gameplay.

Game with good environment music #6549813: Starbound

And Hearts of Iron IV has musics from Sabaton, nuff said.
