Youtube is just easier and more accessible.

Loading a video is the same as loading a mp3 reader. But no one ever does the later.

The thing is, there's already mixcloud to listen to the podcast, so the objective is to be able to download it. Youtube doesn't really serve that purpose. Sure, you can rip the sound off a youtube video but that's a kinda round-away method, if there's something more direct (iTunes) it seems better.

Not if you want the have the audio file. Youtube doesn't let me save the files unless I use 3rd party software.

Something that lets me download the audio is much more handy for this purpose since, again, i'm not watching a video, i'm listening to audio.

But Ren already said he's uploading the audio somewhere so it doesn't really affect me wether or not he choses to use youtube. For me youtube is not handy at least.

Why would someone want only the audio file ?

And a quick editing work can allow the words to be illustrated (when talking about a particular scene for example).

Why would someone want only the audio file ?

To listen to the podcast whenever I want without caring for internet connection and to have the best audio quality possible?

And if he were to add subtitles, that'd make it a video, that would excuse the use of youtube. If it's audio only then no.

But I'm not sure if Ren wants to do that, that's up to him though.

To listen to it offline. I usually only listen to podcasts in my dead times, so I need the file on my ipod.

Well in that case it would make sense.

Editing the video doesn't require that much work.

It may delay the release of the video by something like, 1 or 2 days in the worst case.

For example you could do something like this :

No comments please

That would be neat and it's not too hard to do.

Yeah that was something I suggested too and that would be neat for youtube.

But that's all up to Ren if he wants to do it or find someone to do it.

He's doing the FUWANOVEL podcast right ?

It's not just a personnal project, it's a group project.

Ren is doing a good job at gathering ideas and organizing things; he even invited translators, I have nothing to say about his motivation and I'm glad he took up the project.

However it's not just his thing.

We have to all think about how we can make this work for the best.

So no, it's not all up to Ren. And the more people are involved trying to improve the podcast which in my opinion has an incredible potential to help "Make Visual Novels popular in the West", the better it is.

I didn't mean to say it's solely his responsibility. But I don't have the skills to help in this case, hence why I said what I said, didn't mean it in an offensive way.

More importantly we were just discussing the medium issue. I don't have anything to add to this anymore so this discussion ends here on my part.

Something like this :

This is a quick design idea I'm throwing.

Blue = Fuwacast Icon , next to it is the host's avatar.

Green is somewhere to write "Host" but designed a little bit. Just under it is the host's name (Originalren but it can be modified if ever he can't host one)

Pink = Theme/Info about the discussion.

Of course this is not what the final product will look like.

Just saying it's possible to do something.

Once the final thing is done it would be just a matter of modifying the names, the theme and the pictures (would take about 10 minutes).

Surrounding the avatar of the person talking will require much more time depending on the length of the episode but it's still doable.

Pretty pictures! *claps hands in childlike wonder*

Sounds like a good amount of work though.

I know right ! I did it all myself :3 ! *präud*

This is ten times better than mine (It's a little more complete too ;p)

I like it. We can still work on some design details regarding the font, the colors and the logos but the big idea is here.

Did you make sure it was 16:9 ? (It looks like it)

I was thinking of transcribing ep 2 a long time ago since I was there, nobody seemed all that interested though. Could go for it decently soon.

Transcribing would be an interesting feature, but it would ask for a LOT of work be it writing it down or including it in the video.

If it's just for having a .doc or a .txt version of the podcast it may be a good idea too.

@TheMajor, Did you use photoshop or gimp ?

I want to apologize to any listeners in advance for how stupid I am in the "Makings of a Good Visual Novel w/o Plot" episode. I had some stupid responses to questions, I'm pretty sure I spent most of the time going "UUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH UMMMMMMMMMM UHHHHHHH"

I was kind of nervous.

Podcast episodes 5 and 7 are now posted on the Mixcloud account which is listed in the OP of this thread. As promised, I still plan to upload 2 episodes every month, meaning that after I upload episodes 4 and 6 respectively, we will be a total of 1 episode into July and on track.

As for the 4th episode, I am currently having issues due to time zone differences. We are working on setting a date, however it may be a bit before we can determine a definite time. As for episode 6, one of our guests had a family issue and was unable to attend the podcast. As such, we have rescheduled. This change is reflected in the OP.

I am currently working on uploading the podcast to iTunes via an RSS hosting site, however most websites have upload limits unless you pay a subscription fee. As a result, I am looking into alternative options. For now, if you are interested in having any of the episodes for yourself, I have successfully converted all of the recordings into an mp3 format. PM me if you want any of these.

As for the YouTube uploads, feel free to get a head start on that. I am not very familiar with video editing, and as such I don't think I would be qualified to take on that task. If you are interested in doing that, let me know. Also, it should be interesting to note that after checking out Luch's project website, he has created a nice feature that allows you to place a playlist widget from YouTube onto websites. I think it would be awesome if we could make a sidebar on the main page of Fuwa with a playlist of all the episodes so people can listen to them from the website itself. Just a thought for the future.

Looking forward, I have topics listed for the next 2 episodes. As for the special guest episodes, those will not be recorded until late September, however I will continue to post topics and questions during that time. The next 2 topics are:

1. Episode 10 - Hoshizora no Memoria

This episode will be much like the 5th podcast episode regarding Grisaia, however the VN is different.

2. Episode 11 - Mekakucity Actors

Another topic discussion. Pretty self explanatory for what to expect.

For both episodes, I will add them to the OP with more details when I have the chance. For now, please feel free to volunteer for either one.

Finally, as always, please continue to provide questions and topic ideas. Thanks for your support and enjoy!

I offered my help for Youtude.

Unfortunately I won't be able to do something that time consuming in the two following weeks.

Important IRL stuff.

So if someone wants to do it before that, go ahead.

If no one did it before the July 10th i'll do it.

As for the main Fuwa page, it needs lots of fixes prior to that, but that's a dangerous topic :P

Hey all, I would like to make a little spiel about the podcast if I may and something that I believe should be addressed going forward, so bear with me if you please. First things first though: the OP has been updated to reflect the next 3 episodes of the podcast. If you are interested in volunteering for any of them or want to ask questions about the topics and what they entail, please do so; the sooner we get the ball rolling the better.

That being said, I wanted to address the recent episodes I posted on the Mixcloud account and some of the issues surrounding them. It was extremely disheartening, no, soul shattering, to receive a plethora of messages from individuals on Fuwanovel berating the podcast and saying that the direction I have taken it is and always has been a waste of time. Now, this post is not meant to get angry at those people because in the end, I appreciate the suggestions and advice. However, what I want them and everyone to understand is that this podcast is something I take very seriously. I try to treat it with the same level of professionalism I would any other project I am passionate about, and because of that, I want people to understand that I will always try to put my best foot forward when it comes to producing it. Nothing is perfect, nor am I a professional in this field of work, however I consistently try to make a product people can look back and and say, "Wow, that was fun to listen to!"

Everyone gets nervous. Hell, I am practically shaking when we start an episode. What if it doesn't record and I wasted all these people's time? What if someone doesn't speak? What if we don't have enough time, or worse, run out of time? All of this is running through my head. I may be used to publicly speaking in front of others more than some, but in the end I am right there with everyone else: standing in my underwear praying nobody notices.

That being said, I wanted to post this to let everyone know that I appreciate criticism, however please understand what I, no we, do as a group is not a simple task. Organizing it is one thing, but producing it is another.

With that, thank you for the continued support and the enthusiasm for the project.

Best,

Ren
