Kaguya Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 What the title says. While there is that "what are you listening right now" thread by Snowtsuku, this one should be different. So, what's your favorite type of music? Do you have any specific reason? What are your favorite song? I'll have to go with this one. It fits me and my life the best, though it may be a tad bit more creepy than I wished it to be.It is translated, just open the captions. So, what about you? And what did you thought of the one I posted? Quote
nohman Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Aaaah, that's a very difficult question. I have pretty inclusive tastes, so it often depends on my mood. Going by the most played on my iPod doesn't really help much. However, I think the band that had the most presence and meaningful impact in my adolescence was Modest Mouse, so I'd say: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6XhVj5GF0I As for the reason why, I suppose it's just that a lot of their songs encapsulated a whole bunch a feelings that happened alongside the time I found them. Stanleys Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I'll probably be the odd one out on this but my genre's would have to be country and old rock, like 70's and 80's rock. Both those have to do with how I was raised, with both my parents always listening to it and eventually it just stuck with me. As for a favorite, I don't really have any favorites. Quote

I'd say 30-40% of what's on my iPod is made up of classic rock and to a lesser extent classic country. Quote
Nighthowl Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Alternative rock! Cause these are the only songs left that have a tune(besides all the top 40 charts raps) in the 21st century. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_LzPFNiSc4 Quote
Mevvrynne Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Contrary to my extreme love for lolis, I am actually a huge metalhead. I love thrash metal first and foremost, and my favorite band is Metallica, I actually went to Big Four Tour a while ago and got my Flying-V guitar signed by Kirk Hammett (I will NEVER get rid of it). Three of my favorite Metallica songs are "Astronomy," "Cure," and "King Nothing." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgqDtU8BXf0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9oqY9BVM1s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFBbOHohwR8 But if I were to go into all of my tastes, I love rock in general, but more descriptively I would have to say bands like Led Zeppelin (their older stuff), Pink Floyd, Queen and the Beatles. I actually took up guitar and bass myself after listening to "Over the Hills and Far Away" by Led Zeppelin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bD9t44JUD4 For some reason this one didn't want to get embeded nicely. And the closest thing to newer artists that I've listened to was back in high school I started listening to heavier things, but the only thing that sat well with me was Disturbed. While I don't like quite a few of their songs, I like more than that. Particular ones being "The Lost Children," "Warrior," "Prayer," and "Land of Confusion." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ3dTJrcoxY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71BCqL2ecoE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiHkC9B_1Ws http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvh_0linzSI I'm just going to guess there's a limit on how many of these I can have embeded onto a single post So basically my tastes range from classic rock to pure heavy metal. I do NOT however listen to Punk Rock, Rap, Hip Hop (or whatever it is the kids call it these days) or Country, I do not consider the first 3 to be music, and I just can't get into Country. I do however listen to classical from time to time (you can blame G-Senjou no Maou's soundtrack for that). Quote
Zalor Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Classical is probably my favorite. I love most instrumental stuff and listen to a variety of things, but classical always makes me feel spiritually enriched. I also love how effective classical music can be used in dramatic scenes, whether it be anime, or film. I've been listening to this collection of songs a lot recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Duu1ZKtJDsw 2:24 is when my favorite song of the collection starts, which is the 3rd movements of Mozart's 40th symphony. I'm sure your vision one me will change abruptly from the guy that only loves lolis and moe to something darker, oh well. Currently my favorite genres fall more into Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. My favorite band of all time is Avenged Sevenfold, I've been listening to them since middle school and because of some of their songs i've managed to pull through some awful times back then. Indeed they are recent compared to more classic stuff like Metallica or Led Zepplin but don't get me wrong, i love the old classics too and still listen to them, it's just i connected with this band a lot. Their songs also change tone abruptly and they can go from metalcore to some soft rock, applying to every mood i might be in. I don't know if anyone here supports them but this is my favorite band and this is the genre i listen to the most. Possibily the most widely known song from them Another popular one that came out in the 2nd last album A personal favorite~ Aside from that I've had certain phases where all i'd listen to was more hardcore stuff like Fine don't be embeded, see if i care Quote

My dad loves all Rock, but particularly Punk, and has a huge collection of classic 70's Punk records. He's a real connoisseur of music, (loves classical, Baroque, Renaissance), and he still really respects classic Punk. Anyway If he knew you compared Punk to hip-hop and rap he would have a heart attack. Quote

But I havent really been listening after The Rev left...RIP... I enjoyed his songs the most cause of the pop-ish choruses. Afterlife and A Little Piece of Heaven are my favourites Quote
roninmedia Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I have always been a fan of trance music or various remixes of songs. My favorite DJ's from yesteryear are DJ Encore, DJ Tiesto, Gigi D'Agostino, DJ Sammy, etc. My current music collection interest have focused on the EXIT TRANCE series. I have 45 albums thus far from that collection all stored as FLAC. This is my favorite song from the collection thus far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zfyv41KJO3I Quote

I see absolutely ZERO comparison to be made between them, and I think that those genres should be proud that there is no comparison to be made. Quote

I know different strokes for different folks and everything, but I think you shouldn't dismiss entire genres of music as not being 'music.' The only major genre I personally can't listen to is metal (for the most part), but I get that people have to like for some reason. It wouldn't sit right with me to dismiss an entire genre of music as having no redeeming qualities. Even if you don't like rap or hip-hop, it's still fair to call it music. Quote

I would say it's mostly due to my upbringing. My family was extremely anti-anything, and the first thing they pounded into my head when I was younger was to appreciate classic rock, and to despise rap or rap variations. I understand how you disagree with me on that, but it's downright difficult for me to listen to it and enjoy it, which means it doesn't fall into the definition of "music" for me. It's similar to how most elders will yell at me for playing loud metal and dismiss it as "noise" instead of music, because they have a different definition or way to apply the term "music." Quote

Flutterz Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I mostly listen to various kinds of rock, a particular favorite being a folk rock band called Blackmore's Night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pSYRLZj8xs I'm also quite partial to Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Scorpions. I've recently picked up a taste for various VN and Anime OSTs, even though I used to dislike pretty much anything that wasn't in English because I can't understand it. Also I have a special hatred for Russian songs, despite understanding every word. I just dislike the language. Quote
Forythos Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Gah, I had just about finished my post and my browser crashed. -_- I tend to prefer instrumental music, from modern bands such as Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Do Make Say Think and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, to classical music passing by jazz and its variants. I also listen to metal(80s metal, power metal and prog metal mostly), rock, folk, chiptune and afrobeat. (Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra particularly) From one of my favorite canadian bands : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sloRE7DF2M Quote
Katatsumuri Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 For me, I'd like to say that almost anything goes, as long as I think it sounds good. But that's not completely true, since I'm particularly fond of Classical, power metal, symphonic metal and of course, the humble BGM. However, I have a dislike for most of the music that's "popular" at the moment, like rap, hip-hop, electronic stuff and perhaps alot of pop too... Quote
Down Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I mainly stick to metal, mostly because I don't feel the need to investigate other genres. Folk, pagan, viking, neo, death, symphonic, sometimes industrial, progressive or black. I do listen to anime/VN OST too though~ Some of my favorite bands: Behemoth (black/death metal) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ0h9zZyR3c Equilibrium (epic pagan metal) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpYvgj_uDXI Eluveitie (celtic folk metal) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMY-Q2T0OIY Arkona (russian folk metal) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl13dNSIwAw Quote
atchikotchi Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 i sometimes listen to alternative rock, techno, "j-techno" remixes, trance etc but for the most part, i love piano and orchestra. I prefer the instrumental version of a song rather than the original heh as to my favorite song, i'd say Beethoven's 9th symhphony; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3217H8JppI as to the reason, well I've listened to this symphony so much i never really got tired of it, it helps me relax and think. Azrael Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Hmmm, I have a preference for baroque and classical music... but i like metal too xP <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/cA8T4exbWu8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Quote
hilbi Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I listened until last year only electronic music, but now a lot of OST's and piano music. Davy Jones theme (Pirates of the Caribbean) And this is my favourite song since 2 years or something Not sure what kind of genre this is haha Quote
Forythos Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Eluveitie (celtic folk metal) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMY-Q2T0OIY A few of my friends are big fans of Eluveitie. I really like what I've heard of them as well, good stuff. Quote

Arturia Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I'm surprised to see no fans of j-rock or J-pop. My favorite genre is J-Rock and my favorite band is called "One Ok Rock". They are a steady rising band in japan and have recently announced a tour to america. To bad I don't live there. On a side note I love Vocaloid especially Gumi. Quote
