When do you consider that you finished a VN?

If I do, I go into "troll" mode, where I make fun of all aspects in that visual novel. That's how I managed to finish Heaven's Feel. The ending was completely wasted on me.

But generally, you are correct. I tend to avoid dark visual novels.

I only consider a VN to be completed after I have read all the routes (including sub-routes). I don't read bad ends unless I accidentally got them. Bad ends aren't fun to read -.-

I never play bad ends it's only make you heart wrenching, all routes with good ending is my 100% completed include all side stories, H-scenes whatever.

I don't know if this has been posted before but I can't find it. The reason I asked this question is because I usually only finish about one route in every vn I read and I don't know if I should really put it to 'Finished' in vndb. I mean I finished all I want from the vn but I technically only read part of it. So can yall tell me how much you read in every vn?

Depends on the VN. For example, if you don't read bad ends you'll get even less of Remember11 and have essentially fuckall chance to decipher some key mysteries because lol R11's design. Usually I'd say "All good ends and any story-significant bad ones". I'd generally just say how much I have completed in any longer piece.

I consider a VN "finished" once all story branches that have substance are completed. I don't require 100% cg competion or every "epilogue" ending (such as in Sharin no Kuni) to be considered a completed playthrough.

I admit to not having finished every epilogue in SnK and I consider myself to have finished it, so I suppose that is a thing...

Eh, Sharin no Kuni is kind of an exception, since there's barely any difference between "routes."

 

In more traditionally-structured VNs, though, I get everything before I consider it done. I didn't used to play bad ends, but I changed that at some point, so...  I guess I'm just a completionist.

I don't like reading bad ends, so usually everything but them. If I'm really curious as to what happens, I'll look for a short summary of whatever it is, but that's about it.

I got 100% everything, CG and all, but i'm a rare creature, I can't leave something with empty CG spots unless it's a VN i really dislike and drops, tho what I consider finished depends on the VN, if it's a VN without a true route than one heroine might be enough. If there's a true route than that needs to be finished for it to be considered finished.

Usually I consider a VN finished when I get 100% CG. In case of Bunny Black, I got bored eventually and considered it finished since I already cleared the game once even though I haven't gotten all the CGs yet.

@deep blue, sry but i have to object, since there´re tons of novels out there, where you wont get the full picture when skipping the bad endings.

edit: I´m NOT saying that each & every bad ending is relevant to the story, but you wont know until you do them

I always check out the heroines before I play a VN. Once I have played through the routes of the girls I like I call it good and move on. 

Sometimes I'll play through routes of heroines who catch my attention while playing a different route, but that only happens on the rare occasion.

I would say you have to finish all good and bad endings first then u can say it's finished. You don't really have to collect all cgs (it will be super hard to do in some games)

When I've read everything in it, or everything that is good/has a purpose. Usually I read all the ends... But some games really I don't bother to, or I leave them for later some time. Perhaps...

I'm satisfied when I have finished everything I'm interested in, sometimes this means everything and sometime it only means a couple of routes. For example, I consider Hoshizora no Memoria completed even though I skipped through about 80% of Chinami and Aoi routes. Same thing with Katawa Shoujo, I haven't actually read every route of it either but since I have read some summaries of what they are about and was not all that interested in the first place I consider this one too completed.

well yep, in that case you are correct but most of the time bad endings are just there for....I'm not even sure why...for example most of the bad endings in fate/stay night, waste of time.

But if the bad endings are part of the plot itself then by all mean yes.

I consider a VN done when I have seen a good ending on every route. I've only played one game where routes have multiple good endings (Fate/Stay Night), and in that one I did in fact get all 5 non-bad endings, but I didn't feel like I really gained much from them; the game was done for me the moment I finished the True ending to Heavens Feel, and I liked the Normal UBW ending better than the Good UBW ending anyway...

 

Oh, and joke routes don't count - I never played the Oppai route in Rewrite, but I definitely consider it done. As for 100% bad endings, 100% CGs, etc., I just don't have the time or the motivation.

I'm pretty close to a 100% kind of girl. I like to get every ending and choose every choice. I'm still stuck at 98% for No, Than You!!! Though because once you finish all the endings you have to replay every route for like an added 5 lines here and there to get the last 2%. I figured if I ever replayed the game one day (one route at a time when I felt like it) I will someday get 100%.

Otherwise even if I "drop" a VN I will eventually come back to 100% it
