ItWillDo Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 So there are loads of comedy-based VN's which are meant to entertain the player in a positive way, but are there any VN's which are simply out to absolutely destroy you? I've played both Saya no Uta & G-Senjou no Maou on recommendation for this, and though these weren't bad, there was still quite a happy interpretation to it. Considering you guys are probably the absolute experts in the field, are there any VN's you could recommend me for this? Thanks in advance. Quote
Funnerific Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Muv-Luv Alternative (have to play the prequels first) Brace yourself. Quote
Albedo Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Muv Luv Alternative and Symphonic Rain. Quote
Eclipsed Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I haven't read it yet but supposedly Kara no Shoujo is a murder mystery with only bad endings so maybe that'll fit what you're looking for. Quote

Not really, there are good endings though they're all on the bittersweet end. Anyway if you want utsuge there's this upcoming game (talking about the MG release): http://vndb.org/v10804 Quote
Snowtsuku Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I don't think it's that soul crushing, but the atmosphere makes Symphonic Rain melancholic. Quote
Vokoca Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Muramasa, do it! From the translated ones, how about Narcissu? Good utsuge is basically what you're looking for. Quote
Wahfuu Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 As far as english translated goes, Symphonic Rain. Quote
theboxcarracer Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I just finished Tsukihime, and I think that fits exactly what you're looking for. I teared up on every route, and one route in particular had me full-on bawling my eyes out. Tsukihime. See, this person has the right idea. Seriously, I think Tsukihime is what you want to play. I know the art is old and might be off-putting, but trust me, it's worth it. The game is on the border of being a masterpiece in my opinion. Quote
ItWillDo Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Wow, that's a lot more feedback than expected, but that's good! I'll look into the backstories of the suggestions and put the ones that appeal to me into my backlog. Thanks! Quote

Cyrillej1 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Kara no Shoujo crushed me... I never played anything that soul-crushing before. Quote
Stray Cat Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I second third Narcissu. It's free and short so you can get through it pretty quick and try other things (if can pick up the pieces of your heart and put it back together that is). Quote
Kaguya Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 well tsukihime is getting a remake but god knows when we will be able to play. Quote
Undying Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Your grandchildren may be able to play it, if they`re reeeeeeally lucky. hope i can play after them. Quote
