Rilarion Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Couldn't manage to name the topic well sorry. What I'm looking for is a VN, where something happens and MC's life takes a different turn. I'm not looking for an event in the game, that should be the setting itself.. For an example; In Princess Lover MC suddenly becomes rich and his world changes.. Something along those lines Please recommend me the translated VNs I can't read Japanese Edit: I guess I should elaborate a little more; After his new life begins, he should learn the ropes, how to adapt to his new life. In Princess Lover, he had learn how to live in a high society. I really have trouble explaining it. I apologise. Quote
Down Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 There's Muv-Luv. MC lives a regular rom com in Muv-Luv Extra, then gets warped into a hard sci-fi drama setting with alien invasion in Unlimited and Alternative. There's also Tsukihime, since you like F/SN you should read it! Also Saya no Uta I guess... Quote
Flutterz Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I suppose Clannad fits, although the change isn't quite as abrupt. Quote
Monmon Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 first thing that comes to my mind https://vndb.org/v1155 its just...some event Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Otoboku kind of follows what you described for Princess Lover (haven't played the latter). Cho Dengeki Stryker kind of centers around it of you consider the beginning but even disregarding that the Steel Saga's story centers around how things get shaken up for Yamato and co. post Zero Saga. Zakamutt Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Hmm, in Kira Kira the protag is pulled from a regular school life into touring with a band, s'pose it might count. In Ever17 the characers are suddenly trapped in an underwater theme park (among other things...). Swan Song is more or less post-apocalyptic with the change happening early in the prologue. In Tsukihime the protag is suddenly thrust into a host of supernatural events after moving house (and if you liked F/SN, this is also by its writer Nasu). Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 In Koihime Musou the protagonist is pulled into an alternate dimension version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. In Demonbane the protagonist is a down on his luck detective who gets drawn into a battle against a super powerful cult...which involves mechs...and Lovecraftian horrors. Quote
Funyarinpa Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 999 and Virtue's Last Reward, though you would need a 3DS/Vİta/ DS (emulator) to play them. Also if I elaborate on "why", it'd be spoilers. Quote
Eclipsed Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Yuzusoft likes to throw their protagonists into a "new life" at the beginning of their stories xD. Both of the following are only partially translated though~ In Noble☆Works the protagonist goes from a part-time working highschool boy to becoming the doppelganger of someone from an extremely wealthy family and having to adapt to living the high class. In Dracu-Riot! the protagonist visits Aqua-Eden, a fictional modern day city in Japan, but little does he know that the city is riddled with vampires.. Quote
nohman Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 In Katawa Shoujo the protagonist falls ill and is forced to attend a school for disabled students. I think it fits what you're looking for to a T. Koihime Musou fits your description, though it's pretty porn heavy. I surprisingly enjoyed it *far* more than I expected, though I found that it lost some steam by the end of each route. It's not amazing, but I'd call it a fun experience. Quote

I have to agree with nohman that KS should be a good fit for what you're looking for. It's one of my favorites in general on top of that Quote
Decay Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Many VNs feature this, it seems. It's usually just used as an excuse for the protagonist to start with a blank slate. In Konosora/If My Heart Had Wings the protagonist was a bicycle racer and suffered an accident that forced him to quit the sport and transfer to another school. Quote
phersu Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 The protagonists life in all stories changes, because otherwise nothing would happen. More specifically of what you're looking for......Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate are the only two that I can think of at the moment that haven't already been mentioned. Quote
nohman Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Just thought of one that sort of loosely fits: Dengeki Styker. The protagonist loses his memory of his previous life though, so it might not fit what you're looking for. The protagonists life in all stories changes, because otherwise nothing would happen. Quote

I surprisingly enjoyed it *far* more than I expected, though I found that it lost some steam by the end of each route. It's not amazing, but I'd call it a fun experience. I was looking for a little more positive change, Main Character getting crippled seems, I don't know not appealing at the moment. But I'll put it on my list for future references, what I want changes quite frequently. Koihime looks nice but how porn heavy are we talking about here? Is porn the main focus or is it that they just put a little more than usual? If its more than Kamidori I think I'll avoid it. There's Muv-Luv. MC lives a regular rom com in Muv-Luv Extra, then gets warped into a hard sci-fi drama setting with alien invasion in Unlimited and Alternative. There's also Tsukihime, since you like F/SN you should read it! Also Saya no Uta I guess... I can't read Muv-Luv I can't install it. I want to cry whenever someone recommends it I've already downloaded Tsukihime, but after I saw that there is no VA I quit. But a few days ago I canged my mind and realised normal novels don't have any VA either so it shouldn't be a problem. Basically I'll play it thanks Yuzusoft likes to throw their protagonists into a "new life" at the beginning of their stories xD. I already have my eye on these two waiting for complete translations Otoboku kind of follows what you described for Princess Lover (haven't played the latter). Cho Dengeki Stryker kind of centers around it of you consider the beginning but even disregarding that the Steel Saga's story centers around how things get shaken up for Yamato and co. post Zero Saga. I'll play Otoboku, but I didn't like Dengeki Stryker, almost all of the characters are stuck on weird poses :S. There were other elements too. Quote

Hakamichi_Sajaki Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Id agree with pretty much everyone in this thread and say Katawa Shoujo. The Change in Hisao's life at the start Progresses and gets better. Multiple endings for each girl, Character development and Fairly decent story lines. Quote
Decay Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Two people does not equal almost everyone. I don't want to get lumped in as a Katawa Shoujo liker. Quote

Funyarinpa Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I can't read Muv-Luv I can't install it. I want to cry whenever someone recommends it If it will ease your pain, I'd say Muv Luv is quite overrated. On top of that, playing Muv Luv Extra, especially in the first few hours, is a huge pain. If you can get it running in the first place. As for positive change, you'd have to look for something lighthearted and it appears that except for romance VN's, it's a rare thing for a critically acclaimed VN to both feature a change in the protagonist and be lighthearted.
