Mr Poltroon Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Some random screenshots that they used to advertise their game but somehow they aren't even sure if they are final or not, have zero value here. Then they shouldn't use them to advertise their wares. What has nothing to do with this discussion, however, are the decent trailers which they have also used to advertise their game. Fixed your comments. So many mistakes~ People nowadays need to reread everything before posting. It's an utter plague. Quote
Chifuyu-chan Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 You're probably living a sad life if you're promoting grammar supremacy. But anyways, I'm sure reading the lines with voices will probably make a difference. That might just be in my case since I'm not really picky with words, as long as the thought is in there then we can dig something out of it. Quote
Carronade Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Judging from these three screenshots, the translation is kinda bad. I mean, it's understandable and all, I guess, but the japanese grammar is too obvious. Quote

I can kind of turn my brain off and forgive minor mistakes in simple moege, but I don't want to have to do it when I'm paying money for the product. If you're charging for a translation, it absolutely needs to be held to a very high standard. Quote

If you're charging for a translation, it absolutely needs to be held to a very high standard. I wonder. As long as I'm entertained I don't really mind either way, maybe that's a bad trait of mine though. Of course i'm not saying it is completely fine for it to have broken english, it needs to be readable, but i'm not expecting super fluid english, this game is panpering to otakus, so I expect a lot of awkward English influenced by Japanese grammar which, wether we like it or not, is appreciated by quite a portion of the market. Wether this is good or not I don't know, but at least those are my expectations. Please remember the japanese don't even have the term visual novel, this is just a moege, a moe game, it's merely meant to be cute not the next Kafka masterpiece. Also it's just a 20 dollar moege (that's the price listed on the site), I'm not expecting that high quality of a translation for this low of a price either and personally I'll be fine with just the cute cat girls being cute~ Quote

Decay Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 At least some amount of money is. It has now been confirmed that Sekai Project were actually the ones who translated it. They wouldn't do this pro-bono. Note that this is probably from one of their amatuer translators and not the supposed professionals they're hiring for Clannad. Quote
Nosebleed Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Well if there's good English then even better, good for them, but remember they also released that thing called Sakura Spirit so who knows? I'm just not setting the bar high for this because everything tells me it's just going to be an average moege with nothing much to it other than fancy h-scenes and cute moments here and there. Sekai Project only licensed the all ages version though, they really seem dead set on keeping hentai off of their portfolio. Of course the full version is still available in Neko Works' website but that one doesn't have SP's name on it as far as I can tell. Did they confirm they translated everything including the h-scenes? Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Sekai Project only licensed the all ages version though, they really seem dead set on keeping hentai off of their portfolio. I must disagree. They already published a game with H-Scenes, Sunrider, which is even on Steam. You can patch it from the Sunrider website to obtain H-Scene content on the Steam version. Unless you mean something akin to nukige when you say Hentai. It is also true that the Grisaia version they will soon kickstart and most likely release, will be uncensored. Of the top of my head I can't remember anything other, but it certainly doesn't strike me as an anti-H-Scene attitude. Quote
Decay Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 They were also contracted by JAST to translate Shiny Days. Sekai Project is translating the whole game, h-scenes and all, but it is JAST who is selling the title. Sekai Project themselves have yet to sell or distribute pornographic stuff. The sunrider patch is from the developers, not SP. Grisaia will probably be the first. I have a theory that is completely unsubstantiated, but sounds plausible in my head. They were contracted by Neko Works to translate Neko Para but were not given a license to sell it. This meant that Neko Works paid them to translate the whole game for them, including h-scenes, very similar to JAST's deal with them for Shiny Days. If they were paid already, it means that they won't be getting a cut from 18+ sales. Then SP decided to license an all-ages version for a steam release, probably convincing Neko Works using Sakura Spirit as an example. Since SP is paying for the license to sell the game through Steam, they're probably getting a bulk of the profits off of that, similar to any other license deal, while getting nothing from the version Neko Works is selling directly. I see. It is true that they've only published such games, not sold them. But honestly, it could viably be nothing more than a mere coincidence. Quote

I'm not saying they're anti h-scenes, I know they translated h-scenes before, they just never self published anything with h-scenes, they didn't publish Sunrider. It seems to me that they always chose the path of least resistance when it comes to this, which from a company stand point makes sense I guess but it could very well lead to a really bad version of Neko Para with virtually no content. I agree with Decay though, what likely happened was Neko Works hired them to translate the game only and then SP managed to strike a deal to license it and sell it on steam as all ages, they won't be making a profit out of the 18+ version though. I'm surprised they decided to actually release Grisaia 18+ version, they kept going on about how it was impossible in the beginning. Get your stuff together. Well regardless of what transpired I'm glad Neko Works is releasing an 18+ version in English, which is nice, but since it wasn't licensed by a western company it won't be uncensored, but I can deal with it. True enough, Sekai made no big show that they published Sunrider, but I'm fairly certain they did: http://store.steampowered.com/app/313730/ Though for the Grisaia situation, as I've already told you before, it was simply a huge mess bundled with piles of confusion. Different team members said different things, and restatements were made. However, most of the problems consisted on whether Steam would allow the game or not. They never stated they wouldn't release the 18+ version, though they said steam would not allow it. In the end, I can see how a string of coincidences would lead to people wondering about their stance. I just think they make do with whatever they can get their hands on, more specifically, most if not all of their stuff has Steam releases, so I suppose whatever they can get on there. Quote
Schnarf Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 this is being released on my birthday, so that's cool. hopefully it's a decent vn Quote

Mr Poltroon Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 steam releases the all-age version. if you want the +18 version you need to buy it from the main site. ...thank you? Though I don't know why you're telling me that. Quote
SilverLi Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I am probably buying this game. But I am still arguing if I should support Sekai or Neko Works. I guess Sekai takes a bit of the Steam sale and Neko takes everything on their own page or at least a large amount. Quote

I guess Sekai takes a bit of the Steam sale and Neko takes everything on their own page or at least a large amount. Pretty sure Sekai doesn't take a big part of the deal for themselves when they do that kind of stuff. You'd be mainly supporting Valve by buying on Steam, and Valve is obviously the source of all the evil in the world Quote
Decay Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Valve's cut for everything on the Steam store is always somewhere around 20-30%. Quote
Decay Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 And suddenly there's a trial. http://mirror.tsundere.ne.jp/mirrorinfo/dojin/adult/neko-works/Nekopara1-trial1.html Yep. Quote
Down Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I guess the demo will let us know how decent the english is. In the street across the hate train is already preparing to run, btw. Quote
Zakamutt Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 poyon~ Well, herkz claims the translator is "from SP". Kind of weird since dovac always gave off the impression of them being external to SP, vetted by the TL company... maybe they were, but got into the SP-sphere afterward. I may or may not try the demo. Does it have any h? Otherwise I could play it in the living room... Quote
