ittaku Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Finished B Gata H Kei, aka Yamada's first time. That was quite different and amusing as a romantic comedy of sorts; I got a lot of laughs out of it, more so as the show progressed than early on. Spoiler Still didn't finish how I would have wished. Considering the material and the forward progress towards sex it was a major cop out to not have them successful by the end of the anime and resort to situation comedy to make them fail. I have no idea what older series I'm going to watch next now... I seem to have run out of recommendations. Quote
Jibril Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Just finished watching Kimi no Na wa.... God damn Shinkai... you fucking outdid yourself, what an amazing step up from Garden of Words and 5cm/second. Shit didn't think I would actually cried, didn't even cried this much when I watched Clannad After Story or Shigatsu.... What the hell. Hands down one of the best romance anime I've watched in my life and without a doubt a contender AOTY of 2016. Unless Koe no Katachi became a masterpiece too, I doubt any anime this year and even the upcoming Fall season would surpass this one, not even Re Zero and ERASED... Really looking forward to Shinkai's future work. Who knows, maybe he'll pick up the mantle that Mizayaki left behind albeit in his own style. He definitely proved himself that he can make great movies. Props to RADWIMPS too. Didn't expect much when they announced a rock band is composing all the soundtracks but they went above my expectations. On point music and very well composed. 10/10. Spoiler When Mizuha trip and forgot his name I was like "Just open your hands!" and when she did and Taki actually wrote "I love you" instead of his name.... Talk about a way to ruin your emotions for the rest of the week. The ending too, so many baits of being a tragic end, really thought it's gonna be another 5cm but when they saw each other between the trains, I was fucking screaming. Fucking hell, I'm glad this didn't end in a tragic way like 5cm. Quote
Lucius Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I gotta say, I didn't expect much when I decided to watch Persona 4: The Animation alongside my second playthrough of P4G. I mean, let's face it, visual novel and video game adaptations don't exactly have the greatest reputation for being quality content, despite the Oscar-winning exceptions like Clannad (lmao) and maybe Mortal Kombat (jeez, I'm really grasping at straws here), so I went into this anime with a 'meh' expectation. It didn't help that a review I read pointed out its pacing problems, squeezing dungeon events into 1-2 episodes while squeezing the other story events like the camping trip into other eps. So yeah, this anime isn't suitable for newcomers; play the game first, then watch the anime. Then again, if you've already played the game, then there's no reason to watch the anime, right? Surprisingly not in this case. I reached episode 12 just now, and I was mildly annoyed when they Spoiler 'skipped' the Mitsuo dungeon and flash-forward to the characters discussing the aftermath of said dungeon. The previous pacing problems looked minor compared to this mess, so I was rather appalled by how badly this was written. But as it turns out, it was just Yu having a delusion thanks to Shadow Mitsuo manipulating his mind. See, I totally didn't see that coming at all. Not only did the anime add new content to the story, it added character development and character depth to the MC, something which I didn't see so far in the game version of the MC (probably because I missed out on the True Ending), who's (understandably) a tabula rasa RPG character there. It also reconstructed (as opposed to deconstructing) the whole theme of 'friendship' I was mildly peeved about in the story by adding something more meaningful to the simple idea of friendship. I mean, Spoiler of course the others might have to go along their merry ways with their lives, entering college entrance exams and helping out with their family's business. That's to be expected in real life. That being said, I like how they handled this. It's idealistic, and some might even call it predictable (of course they're going to stay as friends forever instead of going their separate ways), but I like that it added a dash of optimism while maintaining the MC's concern of being able to stick together as friends forever without being separated by real life issues (like college exams and whatnot). So yes, the anime has renewed my interest in Persona 4, and I would definitely want to see this through the end. Seriously, just watch episode 12 if you wanna skip all the other episodes. It's pretty well-written. I think this episode encompassed Persona 4's realism the best in the series so far in its 12 episodes, being almost as good as the slice of life elements of K-On season 2. Fred the Barber Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 The Persona 4 animation was mostly not an enjoyable experience for me, but I did think it did a much better job with the ending than P4G's endings. Quote

With the kind of hours you have to put into P4G's True End, it better not be better. lol Quote
littleshogun Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Planning to rewatch Marimite season 2 later in the future. And for answering the title question here, I'm not watch any right now. Fred the Barber 1 Quote
Deep Blue Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Just watched berserk last episode of this year, while I can't say is great they definitely improved a lot since the first episode and they are doing a lot of things right. I'm sure next year episodes will be much better. I also can't get enough of that sick intro theme from 9mm PB. Quote
Lucius Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Began watching Persona 4: The Golden Animation alongside the 'main' non-Golden P4 anime (boy, that's confusing, ain't it?) due to the main anime not having the Marie social link event. Kinda disappointed that there's no dub for it, and I'm quite surprised too at said disappointment since I had often favored original audio over dub, being the filthy purist that I am. The Japanese voices are okay, nothing to complain about, but they don't stand out the way the English voices did, particularly the masculine kung-fu Chie (and yes, I meant "masculine" in a good way). My main peeve with the Golden anime is that it's basically a rehash of the first P4 anime but with mild alterations here and there. It's obviously based off NG+, since Yu has more courage now, and Izanagi is obviously more powerful, being able to use what I think was the almighty skill, Megidolaon, which he probably learned from a skill card from a prior playthrough (okay, getting way too meta now). Anyway, even though most of the plot is samey, I guess it couldn't be helped since the prologue doesn't exactly provide much variety in NG+. I wish they had used the opportunity to explore other social links though, like Daisuke's soccer or Yumi's drama club, which they left out in the first anime. I'm sure there were a couple of other stuff they missed out too; I know I did, having discovered certain night time slink events during my current NG+. Overall, not a very brilliant start to the series, but not too terrible either. It could've been worse, I guess. Quote
AaronIsCrunchy Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Might slightly have fallen in love with New Game. Really is just excellent cute-girls-doing-cute-things SoL, and if there's one thing that's gonna make me binge watch a series, it's excellent cute-girls-doing-cute-things SoL. Being pretty damn funny helps too. Spoiler And oh lawd, the shipping game is so strong :3 Dergonu 1 Quote
Dergonu Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Finished New Game, and I loved it. So cute, so funny and the art... so pretty. The ending was really nice too. Such a nice little slice of life show. Going to have to watch that again sometime. AaronIsCrunchy 1 Quote
Fred the Barber Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I'm finally getting started on the great journey; I watched the first two episodes of Bakemonogatari. Initial impression: what is going on and why is it so amazing. Looking forward to the rest. john 'mr. customer' smith 1 Quote
john 'mr. customer' smith Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Finally finished Gankutsuou. It ended up being really good, and the last parts were very moving and very satisfying. When I started watching it, I was hoping it would be some kind of work of art that would rely heavily on its crazy visuals for storytelling, but that only really ended up being the case for the first and last two episodes. In between, it was mostly just there for added character. Nevertheless, I found the show very suspenseful and engaging, despite my usual indifference to plot-heavy media. Also, Haydée is my waifu the most aesthetically pleasing thing I have seen in any anime, manga or vn thus far. She's like the embodiment of everything I love about all my favourite art movements. Spoiler Wait, they didn't actually have sex in the anime by the end??? I used to regret not watching the anime because the manga was so much fucking longer than it should have been, but if that's true, I'm kinda happy I didn't bother with it. But yeah, it was great fun anyway. Quote
littleshogun Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Watched Charlotte by chance, and it was quite interesting contrast. The first half was quite something that looks like Monster of the Week plot, except change the monster with power user and quite lighthearted at that. The second half was start to more heavy at plot, started from episode 9. Also started to be more darker there (Actually 2nd half of episode 6 and episode 7 were quite dark as well). For my impression, it was quite a decent show imo. Quote
PhleBuster Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'm clearing my backlog from last season at the moment (only finished Re:Zero, Amanchu, Alderamin, Masou Gakuen and New Game so far). Was travelling a lot so most series got pushed into the backlog. Juggling between Momokuri, Taboo Tattoo and Love Live Sunshine now. This season doesn't seem like it'd have many interesting series, from what I've seen so far... Quote

Eclipsed Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 started watching re;zero, up to ep. 4. i'm only moving at like 2 eps a day, gg im a filthy casual who is entertained easily with shat standards, so i can definitely say it is quite entertaining, reminds me of rikoushi no calvary in how good they are able to handle tropes, and i like the premise, it's more Rewrite than Rewrite ever was, Quote

ExtraMana Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Recently finished Persona 4 animation it was bretty gud. I'm waiting for more episodes of Persona 5 animation soon Quote
Eclipsed Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Re;zero is so fking fun, im only slogging through a couple eps/day, at 8 currently but enjoying every minute Ram&Rem needa do more of their duo commentary+insulting Basuru, it's gold But yeah other than that I really liked how they were able to handle the emotional moments, very well done, Subaru finally encountering his murderer and BSODing over his predicament, Ram's tears, Emilia's Lap of Therapies, all good shit Quote
john 'mr. customer' smith Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 I'm watching FLCL and as expected, I have no clue what's going on, but I'm still watching it just for the insane(ly good?) visual direction. I know there's supposedly a deeper meaning behind a lot of stuff, but I'm not sure if I'll care about that enough at the end to dig for it edit: finished it, I guess it could have been some kind of coming-of-age-story, that's all I can say about it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have this weird urge to go iron my shirts now. Quote

Seth Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Finally have time to watch the Monogatari series. So can anyone tell me what is so great about Senjougahara? Most of the comments I have seen about this show seem to love her but among the heroines she is the least interesting+likeable one in my opinion. Especially Mayoi is great though, I can't help but laugh everytime she interacts with "Arararagi-san" Fred the Barber 1 Quote
