When he sees someone in trouble, he feels compelled to help them whether they be a family member, close friend or even a stranger. He started practicing jujutsu(an old kind of martial art) and kendo together with his childhood friend Kogara Sachi at the age of five, but stopped after breaking a bully's arm in a fit of rage. Besides his fruitless dreams of having his own harem, all he wants to do is become a NEET/hikikomori. It is not to be though, as Sachi has made a habit of waking him up and dragging him off to school whether he likes it or not. Kusanagi can be a charming, intelligent man when he has to, and knows how to carry himself in a fight whether it be fought with the sword, shinai, or his fists alone. Kogara Sachi Sachi is Kusanagi’s childhood friend since she was five, when Kusanagi saved her from a pack of stray dogs (which she believed to be wolves.) From then, she has helped him with everything from preparing his daily meals to helping him study. They both started martial arts around the same age, a sport that fostered their friendship and rivalry. Alvaerele Ikeshia Ikeshia the elven princess of Alfheim, who after the death of her brother she was declared the next heir to the throne by her father. She is very cold in nature and trusts no one else other than her father and her maid Elisven. Elisven Elisven is a maid at the elven palace (and Princess Ikeshia’s personal and most trusted maid, despite being somewhat awkward.) Due to her more darker skin tone, she has always been seen as a spy of the dark elves; thus, she has always been bullied and persecuted while growing up. Even now, after many years in service to Princess, she is often threatened and sometimes beaten by prejudiced individuals who still believes she’s only a spy. She is extremely loyal and feels indebted to the princess for seeing what she truly is beyond her physical appearance. Helvetica Standard Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I saw your thread over at lemma, just yesterday! I'm glad you decided to spread the word over here. Keep up the good work, you have my support! btw, I love the GUI. Killer designs, and this is coming from a graphic designer. :3 MoonStar 1 Quote
Vargas Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Yea I saw this on the indiedb since I have games/mods for all my pc needs. Glad to see this one isn't dead like some of them on the site. Quote
Deep Blue Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Gonna back this when it's ready looks really nice and with english voices, can't wait. EDIT: I played the demo, here are my thoughts: It's a little "rough" right now, some of the voices are cut in the middle. The backgrounds could use a little more work (like in the first scene, that coke bottle looks really bad) companion cube <3 . The text moves really really slow. Scenes transitions are kinda weird, they are shown just for exposition or not, you can't really tell if something is going to happen or if you need to click the mouse. MoonStar 1 Quote
MoonStar Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Vargas Thanks, I'm very glad you like it. And no its not dead just maybe slow updating. Helvetica Standard Thanks yeah I'm trying to spread the word as much as possible. Support and help is always welcomed. Also I'm glad you like the GUI and coming from a graphic designer it means even more to me. Sirius Thanks glad to hear you will back us up. The cutting not sure what to do it doesn't happen every time or on every pc. Believe me i tried fixing it then when i thought i did someone else told me it happens again. I think it may be a python thing with each pc. Try deleting everything from the folder and the saved games and extract it again after a restart maybe. It may be how your pc runs python. I know and realize that but sadly our current small tight budget that we had for this only permitted this much. I can assure you though that the finished full game will be close to perfect. Cant say perfect since no game is ever perfect in everyone's eyes. The speed of the text can be modified with in the preferences menu. There is a click to continue icon that appears at the bottom right of the textbox when you need to click to continue. Its a circle with a animation of Yggdrasil fading. Quote
Deep Blue Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Sorry, maybe that sounded like a complain or something but it's not, so far it looks really cool and I understand why it's a little rough right now. About the text speed it's already maxed out (it's maxed out by default) but still it's really slow for my taste then again this is just me but it would be cool to being able to change it and speed it up a little more. The screens/scenes transitions they need something, I don't know how to explain it but in many novels when one scene is over and a new one appears there is something in between them or the slowly disappears and the new one appears, here they just do it in a second and looks kinda weird, sorry I can't explain it better. It seems that clicking on the "voice sustain" fixes the voices problem. MoonStar 1 Quote
Zakamutt Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Welp, I'm bored, time for an honest, cruel opinion: The character description for Kusanagi on your Prefundia page has some serious issues. The writing is riddled with weird and sometimes plain incorrect phrasings, and it has not one but three typos / mis-spellings. These descriptions are something you should pay extra attention to as they are part of your advertisement campaign, so to speak. As writing is a key part of a visual novel, I am very skeptical as to the quality of whatever you'll put out. I'll just do a pass over said text with change suggestions / corrections so you see what I mean: Kusanagi is a lazy ass pervert with a kind heart even if he dreams to have his own harem of girls at his feet. Suggest "of having". Also, what's before "even if" doesn't really connect all that well to what's after it. If someone is in trouble he will help that person [arguable, but I'd use "them" here] no mater [this is spelled matter] what even if it's a stranger and especially if it's a close friend or family. He also practiced jujustu* [even the link points to jujutsu, and I've certainly heard of said martial art before. Typo #2.] (an old type of martial arts) and kendo since [the age of five? he was five (years old?)] five along with his childhood friend Kogata Sachi but stopped when after losing his temper and [no, you can't connect these with "and". "he broke" would work, but I'd rework it to "but stopped after he lost his temper and broke the arm of a bully"] broken [the tense used here is just obviously wrong if nothing else...] the arm of a bully. Aside from his harem that will never happpen, [this isn't technically wrong but feels really weird. Try "Aside from his fruitless dream of having his own harem..." he wants nothing more then* [than] to be a NEET/Hikikomori [getting run-on here] but sadly because of Sachi that always wakes him up and drags him to school [this whole chain of modifiers to Sachi is just weird. Try something like "but sadly because of Sachi always waking him up and dragging him to school he can't.", though ending on "he can't" is still kind of awkward as well...] he can't. He is smart and witty when it counts and knows how to keep his grounds [the expression you're reaching for is "stand his ground" or possibly "carry himself". "Keep his grounds" would probably interpreted as something like "knows how to make sure the area around his house is kept in a good state (tending to gardens, raking the gravel paths and such); being a groundskeeper is a kind of job.] in a fight be it kendo/swords [no, you need to make "kendo/swords" (which you should turn into "kendo/sword"; you don't say "swords fight") into a noun here in some way. Probably "be it a kendo/sword or fist fight." Still doesn't sound that good, though. What about "whether it be fought with the shinai, sword, or his fists."?] or fist fight. This is just me proposing changes that still keep the same basic structure. It's not really all that punchy or anything though - you could probably spice up the writing decently... lemme try: While he's a lazy ass pervert who dreams of having a harem of girls at his feet, Kusanagi has a surprisingly kind hearted side. When he sees someone in trouble, he feels compelled to help them whether they be a family member, close friend or even a stranger. He started practising jujutsu (an old kind of martial art) and kendo together with his childhood friend Kogata Sachi at the age of five, but stopped after breaking a bully's arm in a fit of rage. Besides his fruitless dreams of having his own harem, all he wants to do is become a NEET/hikikomori. It is not to be, though, as Sachi has made a habit of waking him up and dragging him off to school whether he likes it or not. Kusanagi can be a charming, intelligent man when he has to, and knows how to carry himself in a fight whether it be fought with the sword, shinai, or his fists alone. Seem better? The art also looks somewhat inconsistent in shading style (character 2 vs 1 3 and 4) and the anatomy of CG 2 looks very weird (is her left arm broken? I'm not sure if it works even then.) etc. this is coming from a guy who doesn't really think Key's art in Rewrite is all that weird / notice anything at all. All of this leaves me with a very negative impression. I would not recommend pledging to your project, and unless your writer can step it up or you get an editor who can essentially rewrite four fifths of the sentences your writer puts out, I suggest you cancel it altogether to prevent creating something utterly mediocre or worse (I suppose the art is decent, so that might be the high point.) Pretty harsh... but I think it needed to be said. nohman 1 Quote
MoonStar Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Zakamutt Thank you for your opinion. We appreciate it and we have considered them except two 1. While we understand and respect you opinion please don't make a recommendation if you have not read/played the vn. You know what they say don't judge a book by its cover or in anime terms don't judge a anime by its opening and/or first episodes example Madoka Magica. So please try the vn first before making a recommendation i assure your the text in the game has been fully edited and you wont find errors or mistakes. 2. Sorry but we wont cancel this project as i previously said please check game first before saying anything and please dont say something is mediocre or worse when you haven't read it or know the whole story. Thats all thank you for opinion and yes it had to be said but please refrain from asking to cancel the project or say you wont recommend it when you haven't actually played it. Mr Poltroon Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Tiagofvarela Lol thanks i guess... But would have liked to have read that huge post also Question for approval cat what exactly is she approving our game and what i said? Because she likes the look of this project. So she approves it. (that means that I'll play/buy it when it comes out, though I'm not that into pledging) That huge post would probably be one of those that starts discussion and derails threads. It's better I keep quiet since you're pretty understanding yourself and I'm sure noone got offended in that exchange. MoonStar 1 Quote
Deep Blue Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Keep up the good work , it seems that in this world some people enjoy to bring down others just to make themselfs feel better or superior. Guest Façade Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I have to agree with Zakamutt on this one. Though I have my own misgivings and reservations about the quality of this VN, the most unacceptable thing to me right now is the-- --the, the dead Engrish...... ////////orz Quote
Diamon Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I just played the demo. I have to say I had mixed feelings by the end of it. I'll try to be as objective as possible, but still take my opinion with a grain of salt as I hold any universal truth. Pros : - The UI and menu are very pretty. It's very refreshing, and gives a good idea about the orientation of the VN (fantasy oriented I believe). - A good number of options, even though some of them were not completely functional it seemed (the text speed didn't seem to work), but I realize it's a beta and that those issues will be addressed eventually. - The voice acting is pretty good, except for the fact that I could slightly hear mic blow from time to time. Nothing very bad though. - Art overall is pretty, it's colorful, I like it, however I can't help but notice some irregularities in the sprites (the shading for example as some people mentioned). - The backgrounds are really nice, but it seemed to me that all of them didn't have the same resolution (the exterior of the hospital seemed to be of lower quality compared to the rest, the library BG seemed to have a different style than the others) - HD res is really, really nice. Props to you for proposing that. Cons : - First, I'll start by saying I won't talk about technical issues such as voices sometimes not playing, or text being too slow, since it's a beta I believe those issues will be fixed at some point. - However, there is one big thing that really annoyed me a lot through the whole read : THE (lack of) TRANSITIONS. There are nearly 0 animations concerning that in the whole demo, and it really set me off. I mean, there is no fade-in or fade-out for the sprites, music and backgrounds transition. Even when changing scenes, suddenly the music and backgrounds instantly change without a black screen between them to "warn" the reader, it's really disturbing. All the more since most of the scenes are really short. It becomes even more ridiculous with the music that pops for like 10 seconds, and then suddenly stops without a fade-in to change directly onto another track. So yeah, a lot of work to do here. - There are very too few face expressions. It feels really awkward when I read a dialog line where the character is supposed to be serious (what's more I can't even be misinterpreting the tone since I have voice acting), and the character is still smiling. - More sound effects would be nice. It's a Visual Novel, when the text says "I receive a punch", I'm expecting to hear a punch sound, no matter how bad or unrealistic it might sound. - The writing stule is passable. What I mean by that is that I could understand what was written, and it wasn't suffering from blatant and obvious grammar or syntax problem, but I definitely felt the writing style could use some improvement, what exactly, I'm not really sure. However, I'm saying that as a non-native english speaker, so I'm pretty sure English native will be much less tolerant than me on that side. I'd really suggest you to recruit an editor on your team, as it seems that you don't have one currently. - Now, the story and the content. This part will be totally subjective, so I'll put it in spoiler : To tell the truth, I didn't like it. The protagonist and the main heroine (I think she is the main?) are very bland, and cliche as hell. I mean, it's fine going with cliche and stereotypes, there is no problem with that, but the issue here is that, in my sense, the execution was very poorly executed. Mainly, the pace felt very rushed before the resurrection. How am I supposed to feel sad for a character when he dies or gets hit by a truck (in the most cliche way possible) when I know nothing about him? How am I supposed to empathize with the heroine feeling sad when I know nothing about her? I mean, I understood that she loves the protag, okay. But do I want to support this ship or this potential relationship? No, because it was just so rushed. Some of the reaction of the characters felt really exaggerated, or at least didn't make sense to me (like, seriously, she murders a guard with a piece of shattered glass? It might make sense in context, but since there was such a poor job done at characterization at the beginning, it just seemed that she was crazy... One other thing, the protag gets impaled by a spear, I expect him to suffer a lot, and all i read is ; "Oh indeed I got my body pierced and I'm not dying." On the brighter side, it seems that once the protag arrives in Yggdrasil, things seems to slow down a bit. But it really didn't make up for the rest of the introduction, it was rushed, poorly introduced and poorly narrated. Also, the "good end" felt frankly rather ridiculous...I'm hoping this is something temporary you've put only to show that there were branching routes in the VN... =( So I'm gonna be harsh and say that the writing feels amateur-ish so far. I'm not saying that because I like to criticize people or because I want to sabotage your project, I'm just giving my opinion as a reader so that you can realize what the issues (or at least what looks like issues from my point of view) are with the writing, and that hopefully you will improve it before the final release. And for the conclusion : I'll be honest and say that it left me a rather bad impression overall. Even though art is globally pretty, it doesn't make up for a sub-par writing, especially in a VN. It didn't make me want to read more of it. But I definitely hope you will make me change my mind with your future releases! Anyway, best of luck on your project! It's really nice to see people trying to develop VN, and props for you and your team for being able to release a concrete playable demo, it is not something that every project manage to do!
