I'd also go for Steins;Gate or Muv-Luv (Alternative), can't pick between those 2 though that's up to you and your preferences. I guess if you feel like you're strong enough to endure a few hours of brainless stuff before some nice stuff happens, go for mabu rabu. If you just want to read something good immediately, just go for Steins;Gate.

You pretty much picked the top visual novels on everyones list, but I personally recomend MuvLuv, Alternative is still my top faveorite outa the dozens of visual novels I have read since.
