Mangagamer polls VN fans about interest in Euphoria
DatYandereGirl reacted to Twitchycolt for a topic
Rapelay, IIRC, wasn't so much a visual novel as a flat-out rape simulation game. You could follow the girls around, then kidnap them, knock them up, etc. It was pretty intense. It received the attention it did because of its ability to be purchased on English-speaking Amazon, according to Wikipedia. How people can crucify games like this but then play things such as Manhunt doesn't really make sense to me.1 point -
Mangagamer polls VN fans about interest in Euphoria

Rapeplay doesn't have shit on this game. That being said, I'm 50/50. I don't think its going to sell all that well for MangaGamer with how hyper-niche it seems to be. I don't think I'd buy it personally and can't say I'm all that interested. But, it does seem to be fairly.. different, I guess? I don't know. Hard to really say positives without reading it.1 point -

Your Worst VN Experience
DatYandereGirl reacted to Eurobeatz for a topic
I would say look at my visual novel list and see what I rated three and under, but I realize that some of my low votes are due to my preferences. So here you have it, the list of VNs that I would tell most players to stay away from and why: 1. DOR - A collection of three weird and pointless stories written for the sole purpose of the sex scenes you get at the end. 2. Dosukebe Futanarikko ga Hitome wo Nusunde Oogoe de Senzuri ~ Asa kara Zusshiri ☆ Milk Pot 1.5L - Three things happen in this VN: 1. A rich futanari girl jerks off. 2. She becomes an Internet idol for some random reason. 3. The screen turns white and she asks the player (or somebody, it isn't really clear who she is talking to) if they will help her accept herself. It is very weird, and was know as the worst nukige ever written until Dual Phase Soukakurou (Anal mo Vagina mo Hirogacchaimashita) came along. 3. Yu. u. e. n. chi - At first, this just seems like a generic romance/slice of life VN. That is, until you discover that the central conflict in every route, I repeat, every route, is the same. 4. Netorare Oku-sama wa Shojo Kousei ~Ryakudatsukan~ - A teacher finds himself attracted to one of his female students. After he discovers that she is married to another teacher that he hates, he blackmails her into becoming his sex slave. Boring and has some extreme fetish elements if I remember correctly. 5. Dual Phase Soukakurou (Anal mo Vagina mo Hirogacchaimashita) AKA "The Worst Nukige Ever" - The story of the sex-filled life of two loli twins. To complete it, you have to hear the story three times in a row (from different perspectives), which is painful considering how bad it is. There is a lot of extreme fetish stuff and the story is weird. According to saberger of VNDB, this is "the game that you will snap and break the neck of every kitten when you heard its name."1 point -
What methods do you use to watch anime?
atchikotchi reacted to zoom909 for a topic
I have a problem with some of the shows I've bought from Funimation. Things like video quality problems, and translation quality problems. For example, my Mahou Sensei Negima has this noticeable analog noise throughout. Not digital noise, but analog. I don't know why it's there. It shouldn't be. Another one I remember was Moon Phase. That one had a translation which was worse than the fansub, plus it had lots of digital noise There are a lot of dark, shadowy scenes and you could see blocks and bands both. I haven't had that kind of trouble with ADV, Bandai Visual, AnimEigo, Nozomi, Geneon, or Pioneer. Or Sentai Filmworks so far, but I need a larger sample size to be sure. DVDs are not HD, but I have anime DVDs that are clear as crystal. If I can't trust a company with DVDs, how could I trust them with Blu-rays? So it's true there are less good companies to buy new anime now, but I make up for it with used anime. With used anime I save about 1/3 of the price, and it seems like anime fans take care of their discs very well. I think only one time I had to put something back because the discs were all scratched. All the rest of the time, my used discs have been perfect. Finally, I don't care that Funimation is the main dubbing company. I never listen to dubs. Yes, all that time and all that expense on English voice actors--completely wasted on me. Because I don't need or want it.1 point -
What methods do you use to watch anime?
atchikotchi reacted to zoom909 for a topic
I get the fansubs, copy them to a PC in my living room hooked up to my TV, and watch them. If I like the show, I burn it to a DVD (or recently, a BluRay). If not, it gets deleted. If I show I like comes out in the U.S. and it's not from Funimation, I get it. I watch those on the same PC. But I still keep the fansub if the subs are different, unless the fansub is really old and blurry, and then I may toss it. I have an LD player that was a giveaway, but no anime for it. Occasionally I meet someone who lets me borrow their LDs. I still have some anime on VHS. I'm not sure what to do with it, so it just sits in a box in the closet.1 point -

I use xdcc, torrents (sites like AnimeBytes or Nyaa), and then stream from sites like Crunchyroll since I have membership. If there's something I don't have and I don't want to download it, KissAnime is a great site. They offer 720p streaming, no ads, free downloads, and even a choice between using Flash player or HTML5! I use torrents to watch unlicenced anime. But it should be known that I have spent thousands of dollars on my anime collection. If theres a show I like I buy it. My collection started with Laser Disks and VHS. Now I own hundreds of DVD's Blu Rays ect. I believe in supporting the anime industry. While I do "Pirate" anime, I more then make up for it in my empty wallet. FOr instance, I just recieved a huge shipment of anime (thanks to my wonderful wife) There are a few great torrent sites for anime. If anyone wants the links send me a PM.1 point -
My thoughts and impressions about fuwanovel until now
Eurobeatz reacted to Guest for a topic
the copyright articles in the FAQ are my own personal thoughts and not really anyone elses, it's not fuwanovel's position, it's my position. there is no we, there is only I. When i first proposed the site at the beginning of last year, everyone was against it. Everyone. i stood against the entire VN community. the argument against was that it does not achieve what it asserts to achieve and that it was immoral. my argument was that it was honest ("every1 who plays VNs is a pirate. including the TLers"), and secondly that the real problem japanese VNs suffer in the West is not piracy, it's audience (i.e. "there is none"). and at the time i was receiving some heavy criticism (if only it was criticism, it was just "ILL fucking rape you bitch!") mostly from people who were the most self-righteous, and FUCK was there a lot of people like that. A lot of people were outraged, and others found it entertaining. U get some ultra hypocrites like the guy who runs yande.re who accuses me of piracy (WHILE he runs yande.re and uploads hundreds of scans). lol u have to imagine just over a year ago, there was no such thing as a VN community that doesnt share the same culture as 4chan. If u want to talk about VNs ur going to get called a faggot. No exceptions. there was gemot (now overrun by trolls), VNDB (4chan culture), and /jp/. craneanime didn't even have forums yet. hongfire and nihonomaru for the occasional talk, and animesuki for the rare talk, but that was it. essentially if u want to talk VN, u have to go to 4chan. also if u share anything other than anime or manga, u are a faggot, bcuz those are approved and these aren't. needless to say, at the time i grew very defensive. Then I spent about 4 months non-stop researching copyright and grew convinced that my intuition was right. (I was not always anti-copyright. I remember at the beginning of 2012 i was shouting at checkmate (who runs anime-sharing) for not removing JAST download links when Peter asked him to.) it's difficult to explain it unless u have experienced being ostracized from a community. people look down on you like you are dirt. in response i desperately wanted to show people that what i stood for was good and right, for i had overwhelming evidence that it was. unfortunately the opinions were stacked very highly against me. It is a very sad feeling, but regardless i carried on anyway. that is why u see the copyright section on the FAQ. that is why people criticize me for being so verbose on the topic. it's because i was desperately trying to show people what i was doing was not wrong. but of course that worked against me because now i was being too preachy. in fact one of the main criticisms is that i merge copyright ideas too closely with the site. of course nowadays it is not. my ideas are mine. fuwan is fuwan. but even today u will still see this as an argument against fuwa. actually it's their only argument left so let them have it. At one point i found the attacks on me very distraught, and unjust. but nowadays i think im getting better. nowadays i keep my cool and keep a candid nature. dont take things too seriously, laugh at the world when it is ridiculous, etc (thanks to jeffrey tucker). not to mention that a lot of fan translators actually dont mind the site. they see it as honest. "yes we are pirates, yes i translate this game but i dont own it. yes i dont see reason y I have to look down on other fans bcuz they pirate". but more importantly, it's because the world is changing. and fewer and fewer people accept intellectual "property" (actually most of the world's population does not accept your intellectual property. just ask India) the pirate party has spread to over 60 countries in the world and has become the fastest growing political party. In 2008, seven members of parliament from the ruling party in Sweden wrote a proposal calling for the complete decriminalization of filesharing; they wrote, "Decriminalizing all non-commercial file sharing and forcing the market to adapt is not just the best solution. It's the only solution. Unless we want an ever more extensive control of what citizens do on the Internet."[11] the tides are turning. the teenagers of today was born connected to the net. and copyright to them is just some bullshit that the publishers had kept around from a bygone age. it is completely divorved from their world where every1 shares and every1 remixes and every1 sings. It makes absolutely no sense to them. that is why i say give it another 10, 20 years. more and more ppl will begin to understand that preventing 70% of the world's population from accessing the knowledge that they desperately need in order to prosper, is a BAD deal in order to pay your artist.1 point -
