  2. So I just finished this video. I've wanted to make videos for quite some time now, and after seeing Rens loyalty and passion to this site, i figured I'd make something for it too. Of course, this is all just for laughs. Don't take anything here seriously And if you have any sort of criticism, do NOT share it. I already have a (coach? teacher? Instructor?...Senpai? I dunno what you call it) for that. And thanks for Ashadow for being very patient with me, and for answering all my questions and requests (Sugoi, Ash-senpai!). If you don't know him... wait, you DON'T KNOW HIM?!?! See here http://www.youtube.com/user/Ashadow700 ps: i think the title should be edited to have (video) in it...

  3. First things first, I listened to both episodes in the middle of the night, while being hungover and cold. You two got me started today, thank you for that. That said, I couldn't agree more with Ren on his reply to Steve's post. The site is undergoing a paradigm shift from a full-blown pirate site trying to communicate - no, indoctrinate -, that all copyright is evil in the post-scarcity society, even going as far as bundling propaganda videos in the early torrents, to more of a community and informational site, where unofficial translations can find their home, but spreading information and being the "big", approachable site with all the easily accessible information should clearly be the focus. People also either don't know or seem to have forgotten that Aaeru didn't just leave, but did so in a way that would have left the site to crash and burn if Taylor hadn't stepped up to save it. I've been one of the people stating "Fuwanovel and Aaeru saved my life", but at the same time I'm sad and bitter that she didn't even have the decency to hand over the site when she was growing tired of it. Taylor is running the show in a fashion that doesn't contradict the general mission statement, just the non-sustainable pirate and anti-copyright propaganda machine that was Aaeru's original intention. Please try to be accepting of the imminent changes, because Fuwanovel will of course stay the same at its core, but improve in various ways; The sacrifices being made along the way are done for the sake of sustainability. The site can't walk the thin rope that is running a pirate site forever without some major changes anyways, and I'd rather the site and its community go the safe route than trying to cling to "the old way", whose founder, prophet and god left. I think it's time that we worked on actually bettering the site instead of just keeping running in crisis mode. It's time to settle back in to keep improving as a site and community. Quick edit, back on topic: I'm looking forward to the next pieces of Fuwa history, since that's the interesting stuff I mostly don't know about.

  5. The only reason the lolicons are winning is that their enemies are divided. If only the people who voted for 7 and 6 united, we would win. --------------- -------FINAL CALL------------------------- So I call upon you, lovers of big tits and big girls alike! The time has come to put your differences aside and your selfish desires as well, for if we proceed the way we are we'll end up with yet another boob-less child on the corner of every page. Is that really what you want? Do you want to spend more months staring at another one of Steve's "gods"?! If your answer is no, this is your final chance to change the undeniable doom that shall fall upon this website. The only way is for all of us to throw our votes on one final decision, and since #6 has the most votes yet, it is only reasonable that we choose it. I don't really care which one is the best, as long as either #6 or #7 win, I'm good. So for the last time, I beg of you, do not let your selfish personal desires have the better of you! Prove that there are people on fuwanovel that don't spend all day fapping to under aged girls. It does seem that victory is very far from becoming a reality right now, but I had to at least try...

  7. For those of you who haven't had the chance to check out the podcast episodes as of late, take a look at the new series Tay and I have been working on recently in an effort to improve the community and listen to you, the people of Fuwanovel. The 2 episodes posted below are the beginning of the series - a preview into what we hope will be the format for many future episodes going forward. Being very similar to an "ask me anything" thread, Tay will do his very best to answer the many questions the community has in an effort to connect with the many members here on the site. Fuwanovel is on the verge of change, and this is in my opinion a great leap forward, so feel free to tune in by clicking any of the links below, and we hope this helps answer many people's questions. Man Behind the Curtain - Episode 2: Fuwanovel Unification and Concerns And here is the 1st episode in case you happened to miss it: Man Behind the Curtain - Episode 1: Fuwanovel Towards the Future Thanks for listening!

  8. I think it's pretty much obvious that a story is what makes or breaks a visual novel. Pretty graphics, or your favorite seiyuu can only get you so far. Without a good compelling story with interesting plot and characters it's probably safe to say you're not going to keep reading it to the end. At least not all the routes. So it all falls on the writers to keep the reader interested in their VNs. Unfortunately the writing craft is easy to understand but hard to master and combine that with the fact that each reader has their own individual tastes in the kind of stories they like to read, the pressure on the write gets quite heavy. Share what are some writers that you dislike, hate, have a certain pet peeve with or just plain don't like his or her stories. This is not a place to cuss and hate a particular writer so please keep the discussion fair and intelligent. No flame/hate wars. Also, please avoid spoilers. Looseboy Credited - A Profile, Sharin no Kuni, G-Senjou no Maou Authored some of the most adored visual novels by western fans in history. You'll probably die before you finish counting on how many top 10 lists G-Senojou climbs to No.1. Both SnK and G-Senjou quickly became the must visual novels to read for any vn fan. There is no counting how much these two are praised. But this is where my problem with Looseboy comes into surface. It's kind of hard to explain but basically I can't stand his style. Every scene overstays its welcome, every dialogue feels like he's trying to buy time to make the story longer. It takes too long to get to the point. I know, visual novels are long, and they take a long time to set things up, I'm not a newbie to visual novels but Looseboy just rubs me the wrong way. It's too bad really because he can write some great characters and G-Senjoy has an awesome cast. It's just that he is in desperate need of an editor. I could not finish SnK and G-Senjou and I played them almost to the end, but I could not finish them. Maybe some day I'll give them another chance but I never want to reading anything else by this guy. Hiroyuki Kanno Credited - Desire, Eve: Burst Error, Yu-No, Exodus Guilty The late Kanno is one of the most beloved and respected visual novel writers in Japan to date. Each of his stories has some kind interesting and unique approach to storytelling, philosophy and religious overtones. At a time where most visual novels where nothing more than a fapping material Kanno wrote VNs that have a strong focus on a story. The thing is that coming up with great ideas and actually writing a good story with those ideas are entirely different things. Writing craft is not easy to master no matter how creative you are. That is the main problem with Kanno, awesome ideas plagued by problems. Desire's main selling point was that it had two protagonists that you can choose and play the story for that character's perspective. After finishing that you can choose the other character and play the story from his perspective. But Desire never uses this idea to the best of it's abilities, it never really takes advantage of it. So you end up with two stories that cross very little with each other that they might as well have been different stories entirely. What's more Desire wants to be a sci-fi story but since it had to also be hentai we end up with an unlikeable protagonist who throughout the story gets to sleep with every woman he meets. There is basically no sci-fi story here, its' just you wandering about and having fun times. Once in a while the story will stop to give some characters some depth or to make the story more interesting but in the end it's just a waste of time. There are a few surprises if you finish both stories but I'll leave that to those who are interested in playing this vn. Eve: Burst Error quickly became one of C's Ware's best selling visual novels of all time. Its main selling point is that you play the story from two perspectives but unlike Desire where you just choose and side and read the story from that character's perspective, this time to finish the game you have to change between the two characters all the time. So you're seeing the story from two perspectives at the same time. You gotta admit this is an awesome idea! Kanno has a very carefully plotted mystery story here and this time both characters influence each others progress. This creates an interesting dynamic and give a great chance to tell a thrilling story. To some extend it is a good story but just like Desire it's plagued with the usual abrupt dialogue scenes that sometimes don't connect from one scene to another. The other problem and it's not really the writers fault is the horrible game design. You are expected to make the same choices over and over without any kind of hint of what you are supposed to do next or if what you're doing has any kind of result on advancing in the game. Unfortunately Eve: Burst Error was such a hit that in desperate attempt to stay afloat C's Ware started churning more and more sequels for the Sega Saturn and the PSX and none of them were any good (according to what I hear.) Eve: Burst Error was also remade a few times including with fresh new graphical style and probably new script. There was the pc and ps2 remake (with pc having h-scenes) and another remake with another change in the graphical style for the PSP. Interesting fact, the last game in the series (not remake) was written by none other than Kotarou Uchikoshi, the man behind the Zero Escape series and the scenario writer on the infinity series. I also need to mention that due to some technical problems I was never able to finish Eve: Burst Error so this is not a review of the game. Exodus Guilty had another great idea. This time you are playing three characters through three different ages spanning a 1000 years of history between the ages. There are three chapters, past, present and future. One of the themes of this game is history and religion, how things change with times and how some things don't. It's a fascinating idea for a storytelling. One example is in the past chapter there is a puzzle you need to solve but if you go into the present and visit the same place and since the puzzle has been already solved a 1000 years ago you see the solution, then you go back to the past and solve the puzzle. How awesome is that? Well it happens maybe once through the story. And the story is nothing interesting either. Again Kanno just doesn't know what to do with his ideas and how to write interesting scenarios. The past chapter starts very interestingly with a story about a man rebelling against the gods but quickly turns into a typical jrpg story and a really cliche one at that, complete with the 4 elements and making friends on the way to adventure. The present chapter is just plain not interesting about some young guy who is a treasure hunter and he has the swag so certain women love him and others just want him. The future chapter... that's it I stopped playing this game at this point, it's basically a post apocalyptic wasteland and I had better things to do than keep reading this. In conclusion, Kanno deserves all the greatest respects and respect he gets and maybe I'm just not the person for whom his stories are written for. It's not doubt that he influenced quite a few well known Japanes visual novels. The Multi-Sight Adventure system was used in one of the most popular visual novels in Japan Machi which has influenced in some way Remember11 (if you go by some people who say this is what the main man behind the Infinity series says) although Remember11 uses the Desire's technique than E:BE's system. So share what's your pet peeves with some writers, or which ones you just can't stand.

  10. I think 6 is awesome and I won't be switching. Sorry peeps. It doesn't matter if it wins or not, it's about honesty and staying true to your beliefs. If it doesn't win then it's fine, the people will have spoken and I will accept the result with a smile. There will be a smile on my face because I know that I stayed consistent with my beliefs... and also because I'll have cursed those who voted against it with the annoying trend of having your pants keep falling down whenever you talk with members of the opposite sex. Have a pleasant day people

Please vote on the logo you like the most, we might also have to consider removing campaign posts trying to sway people over. It has been a good laugh, but it is not fair to turn this isn't a campaign rally. Please make your vote and keep it.

  13. Answer me this you anti- subforum people. Why the actual fuck is having another sub forum such a bad thing? It is literally a few lines of text extra. Is it because you might have to work a little more to make sure things are in the right place? God forbid a mod actually have to work a little at something instead of spamming lolis all day and spouting lies and anti-change bullshit.

I'm really happy to know that at least one person agrees with me, Ang3l, about basically everything you brought up. It's important to expose people to what we love about visual novels, not misplaced or questionably comical screencaps. I'm not sure how clear it came across in my original post, but I want to explicitly say that I don't think this is the right way to bring people into visual novels, or even to make them popular, because then a particular and uninformed opinion gets formed by many people, which (by the looks of many of those posts) could negatively impact the community. Sorry if I overstated this, but it's a topic I care about, because I really really get bothered by those 'funny' pictures of touching scenes from Katawa Shoujo (and others, quite possibly) that completely dismiss the feelings and value of the story.

  17. The best choice to allow necroing could be divided into three categories. One and most importantly - If it is actual news. For example, a new anime was announced. Few days later, more information was released. Within those periods no one posted on the thread so obviously this would be subjectively marked as important. Obviously, post links to your sources. Second and Third categories would be similar to the thread being pushed back or ignored/not noticed by others. One option is if the thread gets pushed back to the second page then the person can kick it back up. Or/and the person must wait a period of 2 or 3 days if they want to bump the thread back up to the first page.

  20. As Rooke is my witness, there are forums changes coming this/next week. Most of these changes are already set in stone. There will be new forums/subforums. As I explained in the 2nd chat with Ren on his podcast -- these organizational changes are necessary for me to clean house and get us moving. I won't be asking for referendum on the changes, though suggestions after we see how it works will of course be taken seriously. Zalor -- some of what you're talking about will be built into the new system. Never fear. Let's talk about forums changes after they're all rolled out next week.

  21. I also wonder about this all the time. Everyone goes crazy posting about what Aaeru wanted and what Aaeru's vision was, but she's gone. I dont know if it's some reverence for her efforts or something else that makes everyone try so much to discern her goals and put them to work in Fuwa, but that's the only reason I can imagine so many people with varying interpretations holding her flag instead of their own. I'm not trying to judge anyone when I say that, I'm just a little perplexed about why there must be arguing about what she wanted instead of about what the current administration/members want. Why does Steve have to reference her posts from over a year ago as a means of validating his beliefs, and would it be too horrible to move slightly away from those original goals? I know I said all that, but I really dont know, and I'm not here to judge you. Maybe your answer is 'yes, I will hold to what I believe that Aaeru believed, because she believed it' and that would be fine. And even though my opinion is a drop in the bucket, I'm split over these core issues and I think only time will give me the answer I want. What I wanted to say, ultimately, is that I think everyone should have an answer to my question that they are fully aware of, so that careful thought and not old zealousness is what we carry into the future.

  23. Fuwanovel promotes the growth of VNs in the Western market. Working with OELVNs is yet another way of doing it. This is just a way to group them together for better visibility, while removing them from the main VN forum for those who think they clutter that forum up (or just dont care about OELVNs)

  37. Takahashi Recovery Academy is a English visual novel in development with a setting similar to Katawa Shoujo. The reason i decided to post this is because it seems to have gone under the radar just about everywhere. So i decided to give it some advertisment. I personally also stumbeld across this by accident. And i have not been able to find anything on it in the forums here or anywhere else They are currently looking for artists and could use some advertisment. And I think it would be sad to see it fail as I personally think it looks very promising. Here are the links to the site and the development blog. http://love-despite.com/ http://blog.love-despite.com/ So I have a question, is there anything we can do to make the project a little less unkown? (maybe a moderator or a Admin would be able to advertise the project a bit?) Also let me hear what you think about it.

That is honestly the first time i have heard of such a thing happening. That would definitely do it, or at least help... That is exactly what i am feeling. I love that it is getting the attention but the way they portray it is rather demeaning. That was the basis of my post. Its good its getting noticed but i feel that it could be harmful in a way for those who are brand new to VN's, they might not take it seriously.

You can use google image search to find out something you don't know. http://209.197.93.31/recipe/japanese.html For something simple to start I would recommend Oyako don or Nikujaga.

  44. Did you try Umineko ? Ryukishi has gained experience and it shows, except some pacing problems everything is better and the VN itself is really original (adult cast, a bunch of messages about the notion of reality, family relationships, the truth in all its forms, differents forms of love, the work of fiction...). The risk taking is admirable imo, being a bookworm myself it's the only VN who made me remember some products from this media, and even if you don't like Umineko, you will love the soundtrack, it's worth it in any case.

  45. Rewrite aside (which is kind of a second-rate chuuni game with Key heroines), stuff from Jun will generally be the exact same, not only the ending (which would be more acceptable). Hell, I don't even know if Jun wrote Rewrite, I'm just assuming he did. That said, while I do dislike a lot of VNs, I hardly know who wrote them. Much rather remember the company who did it than it's individual writers. Guess I just hate any moege work, no matter the writer and dislike most of the charage ones. That seems legit enough. My major complaint about VNs is generally "why should I care about person X anyway?" so character-oriented drama and romance tend to fail miserably.

  47. Hello from the Artist Hello, it’s DarkSin, the Team Violet Hill’s lead artist (though that’s not saying much considering how small our art team is ^^’). It’s seems like it’s my turn to do the update post. I haven’t really OFFICIALLY (or unofficially ) introduced myself here before. Basically what I do is the… um the art. Most of it. The Sprites, CGs, maps, some backgrounds most probably and various other things. Yes, it’s a lot of work! D: Oh and I also like to do a little QC’ing and get involved with the idea bouncing, character designs and brainstorming Experience with the Team so far I joined the team just a few months back, and so far I’ve had a great time with them. They are very motivated, ambitious and talented. We chat about all sorts of things, not just the project. Anime, visual novel… fetishes. Yes, all sorts of things o.o It’s pretty fun actually Progress this Past Month We’ve been doing a lot this past month. The team has begun pushing harder and allotting more time to the VN for the v.3 demo release and it’s shaping up pretty nicely. Things are coming together bit by bit. The script has been polished to a glaring shine (and then some ), art assets are progressing nicely, new music compositions by Vok have been added. Helv and Choco have been hard at work with the script. Choco, the idea guy’s, suggestion for using Google docs was a big help and considerably sped up progress. The QC’ers have also been helping out. Vok made some beautiful music tracks for us and.. is off to Japan for some months xD He’ll resume work on the soundtrack when he gets back. And I myself have been pretty busy with 2 universities, but I’ve been working on the VN in almost all my free time. I’ve completed two sprite packs so far. I probably went a little overboard with them, though Two many variations. I wanted the characters to appear more alive, so to speak. Our editor Choco is even doubling as our photographer, providing us with some beautiful imagery. We want everything in Violet Hill to be original. As said before, the visual novel has taken on a professionalism and aims to reach the level of any good commercial Japanese visual novel. Extra effort is being put into maintaining a standard. What’s Coming Additions to the Team and Wanted Positions Please welcome the newest addition to our team, Mat! Mat is our QC’er/style checker. He helped out in the polishing of the demo script. Kaskade has rejoined our team as well. He will also be QCíng. Wanted positions are as follows: . FMV animator - Needs to be able to animate short 2D scenes, using whatever software(s). . Background artist - Must be warned there are many backgrounds in this VN. And also a certain quality standard will be expected. . A co-editor - Should be proficient in English, and have writing experience. Please note, if you’re skilled in any relative area (art, music, QCíng), or if you just want to genuinely help out, feel free to contact us. There’s always some room for fresh blood enthusiastic volunteers. This is a community project and we want the support the community The Corner And lastly, an art piece by our artist, er… me ^^’ Rin looking at our logo; Red Lattice Studio. Our logo design by Helv: That's it from me. See you next time. Don't forget to keep giving us your support!
