  1. Before I go any further, if this is not the right place to post this, or I'm breaking some rules by making this thread, I'd like to apologize in advanced. Hey guys, short time lurker and first time poster. Big fan of the community here and glad that VN fans can have a place to talk about stuff . Anyway a while back I started doing reviews of games, originally I didn't intend for it to be VNs/Dating Sims but as time has gone on I've found myself covering them more and more. I try to do quick, informational but entertaining reviews that give a recommendation as to whether or not you should try/buy the game. Dunno how successful I am though. Without further ado here's a link to one of my favorite reviews Here's a link to a more recent one And here's a link to just the playlist of my VN/Dating Sim reviews. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDnxyteDY65xn5vY3OKXWaQlKFnaQzKIA It should be noted that I've reviewed other types of games, they're just in the main playlist. Anyway I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions about how I could improve, or games I could cover.

  3. TL;DR: The problem lies with the IP address bans and having Cloudflare serving as a reverse proxy for the site nowadays. Long, technical explanation: Thing is, the guest comments are also going to be removed as soon as I have access to the server again. So this problem isn't going to be fixed, as they'll be gone soon afterwards.

  4. After the great journey of True Tears, I now moved on to Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo. And what should i say?! I love that thing too ... It's funny but not ridiculous and serious who it should be. Like always the characters are awesome and loveable. Thats almost a torture ... More and More I start questioning how i could live my life without watching animes?! Greetz

  6. So I'm a bit behind the times. It looks like automated text hooking and translation is much better these days and some games may actually be readable. Looks like there are a bunch of tools and guides out there I just don't know which one is best and most compatible. Here is what I've found: AGTH ITH Visual novel reader Are visual novel reader and AGTH two tools to be used together or two that do the same thing? Anyway, sorry for being a bit clueless on all of this just want to know what the best most up to date thing to use would be.

  7. Yes, everyone must find their own truth, the truth they're happy with and believe in. You can have the wildest fantasies about what actually happened during those 2 days, you decide what's in that seacatbox. Thats how the ending was designed and it's really fitting and much more satisfying than any answer they could've given me I believe.

  12. You're quite the worker, aren't you? The common issue with most otakus is that they do not reach beyond their point of interest, which makes them susceptible to any kind of bullshit creators of these mediums shove down their throats, no matter how absurd they are. It often makes them biased and unable to perceive differences, or truth. I'm actually glad there's a bunch of people around these corners, who know a thing or two beyond just chit-chatting about favourite waifus and Majikoi; it provides some sort of a ground for reasonable debates. I like heroines with deep personalities and these can't evolve without some sort of a solid trigger. Traumatic backstories and troubled pasts often accompany them like a shadow.

  14. Two amazing romances / more like rom com in the case of Sakurasou. I wish there was more like it. If you haven't and can handle the feels - no, seriously, talking about this kind of feels here: Check out AnoHana as well.

  15. What have you watched so far? I haven't watched a lot but I also prefer some with little romance and in that direction, I think true tears was really good (at least for me)... Another thing... I ever thought that your avatar is pretty cute and i now know where it is from. She is really adorable

  17. Everything depends on the character in my opinion. It varies from game to game because I am more judging towards characters. I can dislike characters just because their stance or how they talk normally. No matter what type of girl it is. Everything depends on so many things. Hard to explain in words.

  18. Well, making Huffman trees was way beyond me, so I went for a different tack and instead just had the game skip decryption for script files. Downside is that it requires editing the exe so you have to distribute that as part of your patch. I also only have the trial to work with, so I can't fix the real exe unless someone wants to send it to me (if you even want to do it this way to begin with). The major problem with it from a translating point of view is that you cannot use ascii for the script, it just crashes the game. The game will only accept SJIS for text. I think what they've done is have the script take in all ascii as script commands. There's probably a special way to get it to work, some sort of escape code or something, but I can't find any examples of ascii in the script to see how.

  19. Anime (and probably VN too) are more targeted at 20-30 males (read: people who can buy expensive as fuck blurays/games) than teenagers. People like the intelligent-sarcastic-villainous type because it looks cool/chuuni (very teenager way of thinking), not because it's "realistic". Realistic shouldn't be even applied to fiction in most cases.

  20. Being a new forum member myself I think the recommendation board should remain where it is. While I did scour the forums looking at all the different kinds of sections, the recommendation forum sticking out is a key factor in my opinion. Simply due to the fact that recommending VNs is probably one of the more important, and beneficial, sections to newer VN players like myself. So that's my two cents.

  22. I think from an organizational perspective it makes sense to include the recommendation forum as a subforum of VN talk. Having said that, I think the recommendation forum's visibility is a more important thing to consider. It looks like a lot of the topics are made by new users and people who only visit the forums a handful of times, so having it where it currently is at the (near) top of the page is a good place for it to be. Also like you said, we are a visual novel community. It is good to see the Visual Novels Discussion section look more robust. As an aside I always thought the Community and Support Section would make make sense to precede the Other Discussion section, but that's not really an earnest suggestion given how used to the current layout I am. P.S. It's good to see you back,Tay. I hope you're doing well.

Except translation implies fully translating the text, not stopping halfway. "Onii-chan" isn't an english word. Honorifics aren't part of the english language. The text you produce is supposed to be correct english. Rendering the various specificity of a language into another is the reason why translating is so hard, but it's part of the translation, especially considering we're dealing with two completely different languages here. The base sentence structure isn't even the same, one is SVO and the other is SOV. If literally translating means the result doesn't even make sense, it's useless. Localizing would be more like replacing an entire joke altogether because it makes a reference to japanese culture or plays with the japanese language. The main reason why some of us tend to prefer very literal translation is simply because we're used to the quirks of fan translation and already have basic understanding of japanese.

  29. I don't see much reason to make the Recommendations forum into a subforum. As mentioned above, there's the minor problem that newcomers won't immediately see it, while I'm sure recommendations would be a popular interest for people who've just joined. Besides, the board already says "Visual Novels Discussion", so there's no flaw in terms of organization. I don't find it problematic that there would be too many forums, either; I've seen community forums with proportionately lower activity and more forums, and they're equally prosperous.

  30. The recommendations forum is both ‘hip’ and ‘rad’. Big thumbs up. However, would moving the Recommendations forum into the VN forum hide it from newcomers? And therefore would it result in more recommendation topics being made in VN by people who weren’t aware a recommendations forum exists?

    Any long manga

You must be very old then XD But yea Naruto is something that you must tolerate XD. The series is so long that fillers are bound to occur. Skipping all them would be doing yourself a great favor. The only thing 2D related that made me cry was Clannad. That stuff was deep man.

    Any long manga

I find the whole Naruto to be too forced and too overrated :< I mean when i first watched Naruto when i was 14 or 15; I was stoked that I couldnt stop watching it.. but until the 1 year fillers.. I just gave up on it entirely... and I realized the whole best part of it was the Zabuza and Haku Arc. Then I tried watching Shippuden but just cant get into the whole thing.. I find it bland and dull.. In all honesty; I much prefer Hunter x Hunter (remake anime!) and One Piece for a long-term anime because it can pull your emotions; especially One Piece! that anime made me cry many times.. and many will hate me for saying this; I Say Toriko is better than Naruto because Toriko can sway your emotions; Try watching 50 episodes atleast of it and not once have been tempted to eat. its Impossible! But Jojo's is also amazing History's strongest disciple aswell for a less colorful manga; Berserk and Ravages of Time appears on the mind. But I will respect Naruto lovers everywhere and wont further bad mouth it... I gave up the whole badmouthing Naruto thing when i was 16 or 17... :3

  36. Rule of thumb - the age of the main protagonist (in animes and VNs) roughly matches the age of the show's target audience in Japan. You get your exceptions, but on the whole it seems about right. It's not about being realistic but getting the target audience to relate to the protagonist, I assume.

  37. In suspicion that drinking tap water causes one to urinate more often, I experimented with both purified and tap water. Although my execution of the scientific method was not entirely orthodox, I've concluded that there does not exist a noticeable distinction between tap water and purified water when it comes to bladder control. Somebody else can write a scientific report regarding this matter.

  39. Welcome to the Moe Space Program! Our mission is to spread cuteness throughout the galaxy! The idea is to plant a flag of our favorite cute characters on every planet we can land on. Is there really any need for this? Not really, I just wanted a reason to play more KSP. My original idea was to let everybody choose which planet you wanted, but I kind of want to visit the planets in order, so we'll just do that. So I guess what I'm asking for is what characters would you like to see represented in space. You can just say the character (let me know where they are from), or If you'd be so kind as to link me to a picture to use for the flag, that would be nice. Or if you want to you can make your own flag for me to use. (256 x 160 jpg) There are 15 known targets. Moho is the first planet we will visit, and Eloo will be the last. Default flag planted on Kerbin (as an example of what they look like) Our targets: Mission 1: Moho Mission 2: Gilly Overall a much smoother mission than our first, with not only enough fuel to get us to Gilly, but enough to also get our captain back to Kerbin! This we we planted a flag for the (obviously) best two Strike Witches, Perrine and Charlotte. That purple planet you see is Eve, which is our next mission. And a successful landing back on Kerbin! Mission 3: Eve Mission 4: The Mun [Click here for mission 4]

  43. If the game you're making is a pure VN, consider targeting the 'Interactive Fiction' crowd. The only difference between the majority of 'Interactive Fiction' and 'Visual Novels' is 'Visual Novels' have graphics and sound. The adventure game community might also be worth targeting, and the section of the RPG crowd who love heavy stories might be worth a go. I wish you the best of luck.
