  1. My opinion is that you were banned for several different things: 1. You are/were annoying. You kind of spammed everywhere on every topic in the whole forum. Bringing old topics alive and such. I don't say it is bad but you were really active. I think people could've been annoyed by the fact they saw you everywhere and maybe mistook you for a troll or something. 2. My personal opinion is that the picture you were using wasn't the problem but it was excessive out from the masses. Gif pictures aren't that normal on this forum. I think I have only seen around three different avatars wit a gif. Signatures are a lot more common with gifs. 3. You are strong willed and don't back down. With what I just wrote this could've easily provoked people. A mixture of everything and people recognize you in a negative way. But what I am most disturbed of is that you bring this up to the public. Keep it private and try to at least figure it out. If you can't discuss with Steve ask another moderator for justice. I do not like when people "cry" in the open when they could've possibly been treated unfairly.

    Getting my avatar back

We don't double-post, so you should be able to figure it out just by reading the name of the first one. Well, if you want to be extra safe, just read the username every time. That can't possibly take much effort or distract you too much~ That said, the gif avatars are allowed in most cases. There should be no reason for them to be removed, as long as they're not against other rules we have (like showing pornography, for example) The reasons for banning Sanada are different, and the staff apologizes for the lack of clarity in that. It won't happen in the future again. Also, regarding a previous remark in another post- we currently don't have many active staff members, so it's very possible that we'll miss on some derailing. Two or three people browsing the forums are not enough to cover every topic, so even long pages of derailing can possibly go unnoticed if they're not reported. With board mods coming, this will change soon, though. Until then, please just report any stance of derailing, and we will take care of it. It's not like we're trying to have double standards or anything like that.

    Vn Engines

Engine development is one of the areas which has been killing the Japanese gaming industry. Unlike Western development, Japanese gaming studios tend to spend a long time making a new engine for each game they make, and then abandoning it. Konami created a powerful new engine for MGS4, then never used it again. This is incredibly inefficient and costs a boat-load of time and money (although Konami are finally getting the idea with their new Fox engine.) Final Fantasy XIII has been a welcome exception, where they used the same engine for all 3 games substantially reducing the development time for the later 2. However, mucking around with the engine is part of the reason for the massive development time behind FFXV. Not to mention Japanese Game developers find it much more difficult to licence 3rd party engines. Compare that to the West where Bioware licenced the Unreal Engine for their Mass Effect games, Borderlands uses the Unreal engine, Bioshock uses the unreal engine, XCOM uses the unreal engine, Gears of war uses the unreal engine, Wasteland 2 uses Unity, the Witcher 1 uses Aurora. Modding existing engines is where the West's PC background provides an advantage. Anything which shortens development time for Japanese studios is a good thing. Spending ages building an engine from scratch when it's not needed is throwing money down the drain.

    Potential Review Show

Hey everyone. During one of lectures at university the lecturer said that it is a good idea as future employees in the media industry to build up as large a repertoire of journalistic activity as possible to help us stand out and get employed. This really got me thinking. I've always liked doing reviews so I figured I could do a review show on YouTube. It was around this time that I started getting into visual novels so I had the idea of doing a visual novel review show (there don't seem to be that many on YouTube). I have heard that people don't care much about video reviews of book so I was wondering if the same applied for VN. So I was wondering; if I did video reviews of VNs would you guys be interested in watching? (and just to clarify, I'm not asking if you'll watch MY reviews, just if you'd watch any video review). If you're wondering about content, I'm thinking of doing something similar to what Caddicarus does with his show "Tinker Time" ( ).

  8. Well i looking through kickstarters and i saw this one and i was very much intrigued. The animation looks quite good and the story really pulled me in. What do you guys think of it? Just a little curious. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1300298569/under-the-dog

  9. Yeah, and due to my poor memory, I basically had to play the game with notepad. Start the game, die, take notes. Start again, die, take notes. Etc, etc. It had an interesting idea which did pull me in, but it kinda lost me in the long run.

  12. Steve is no longer an admin. Also as you can see I have an animated avatar. If you put up an avatar that is not acceptable, you'll get a PM before any bans. Mods are now clear about bans, I can't go back in time, but I can tell you, you'll know exactly why you are banned if it happens.

  14. Relevant to this kickstarter, the producer of Under the Dog did an AMA on Reddit. Some answers are quite insightful on the bane that the production committees system has been on animation those last years.

  15. One piece FTW It was tough between OP and HxH though. Continuing on above points, Bleach also has a repeating storyline. That ruins and trashes it perfectly with a knockdown. I mean yes a lot of shonen stories all have similar storyline between different arcs but it almost seems Bleach lacks that variety for example backstabbing or major (not minor) plot twists. These give the almost repeating storyline more depth and interest.

  17. Not to be the funny guy here (I changed my avatar before reading this), but this is probably the first forum I've ever heard complaints about GIF avatars being annoying. Communication should be clear and direct. Side-stepping the issue and/or letting someone else handle your business, only builds a mountain out of a molehill. Hearing that there was an "invisible mass" of complaints against you isn't very helpful. All it builds is suspicion and resentment. I know that there are few people here who like to be snide and snarky. The minute I call them out, they'll retreat but I'm willing to bet those are the same people lodging invisible complaints in the background if what Steve says is true.

  18. I like A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask both better, but I grew up playing Ocarina of Time and I will never be able to see it as anything other than amazing because of that. Also, I really love the music of the Zelda games, and Ocarina had some of the best in the series, in my opinion. I'm a music guy, by the way. Music is awesome.

  19. Look Sanada, just change your avatar already. If you get banned for it, and I don’t think you will, then take it up with Tay. Distracting avatars are not ban-worthy offences, nor are they grounds for requesting a user change their avatar. If .gifs are not to be used, an amendment to the forum rules is necessary. If Steve took the matter up with you because users found it ‘distracting’, then he was abusing his power. But he is no longer an admin (thank God) and so you can feel free to ignore his concerns.

  21. *sadface* Love Gem denied by 300 points, this was Soldier Game on Expert btw, got a 208 combo (C combo), and like 30 combo breaks (I suck at this game~) Then I found out after a level 20 SR card was actually high enough stat to make it in to the team... meaning I could have probably gotten the gem if I auto-formationed before that...] This draw was very painful for me to see

    Best Ongoing Shōnen Story

I don't dislike shounens, actually most of stuff I'm reading, have read and probably will read in the future are shounens. The problem is that so many of them end up getting worse with the time, you also can't escape the deus ex machinas, some of them are acceptable but there are times when it gets just so dumb it's frustrating to read. Since it's a discussion about the best ongoing shounen, I'll give my input on three of the four 'biggest' titles popularity-wise, I'll stick with the ones that I think that are actually bad right now because I'd rather be seen as a hater than a fanboy, that's what I mostly get when I give my opinion about mangas/animes anyway. And I usually discuss those three with a friend and so I have everything I wanna say in mind. Fairy Tail

  23. It's one of the reasons Rewrite is my favorite game. The comedy relief is a big point in her favor, though I like Shizuru and Lucia better. Akane's route does a great job of tying the story together, but her route isn't very good. Well, she has a few legitimately good scenes, but otherwise I kinda find it creepy when the imouto type actually exists. More to the point, she's the reason why G-Senjou No Maou isn't my favorite VN. Isuzu, I found especially creepy, as they're blood related by what I gather. FUCK. Haru's just awesome like that. Nanami is my favorite girl of the entire series, but Kirigiri isn't too far behind. I found I really like Nidai and and Asahina Akane. Souda's a decent character with an awesome gimmick. Sonia is... Fairly annoying, in my opinion, but not too much so. If anything, Komaeda has me questioning which gender I like more, and easily overtakes Chihiro in that aspect. Komaeda is my favorite DR character ever. Have you tried Never7? Honestly, Ever17 is the best of the Infinity series, but Remember11 is the downpoint of the famous three, and Ever17 is the best. And yes, there are other games to the Infinity series. Sharin No Kuni is kind of more relaxed, but if you liked stuff like Ever17, you'll probably love it too. Pretty sure Layton Vs. Wright is actually considered a VN. Though it IS awesome. I have had a history with both gaming series, and it's great that they finally combined the series and actually connected the universes (That'll really help GT Crossover if it comes up), but I feel they could have done it slightly better. I have no real complaint for it except... WHY IS IT A DAMN WITCH HUNT?

  25. I've looked through a bunch of your reviews and I think you're doing really well with how you format them. They're past-paced, fun to watch, and provide good insight on VNs and Dating Sims. Also, there's another VN that'll eventually be coming out on Steam that I think would really be worth reading. It's from the same company that did Ef (not sure if you're familiar with the VN or its anime adaption). http://store.steampowered.com/app/315810 That is true. There isn't a particularly wide range of VNs in the western market, but there are still alternatives to Steam as well. Now, this will roughly depend on your preference for storytelling as MG and JAST normally don't work on VNs that are originally written in English (those are the only VN reviews I've seen on your channel so far). They're mainly involved in localizing Japanese works and distributing them through their own websites. But as of late, there has been a fairly nice increase in VNs distributed through Steam, but for the most part, you'll want to look towards the English licensing company's website to purchase them. The VNs are usually only available for download only, but you may be able to find physical copies of the game if they're really popular. You can find a list of the titles they've licensed on VNDB, and there will also be a link to their website if there's anything you're interested in buying. Sekai Project doesn't have a store available on their site yet, but you'll be able to find their works on Steam.JAST MangaGamer Sekai Project As I mentioned earlier, the VNs you've reviewed so far are originally written in English. And while they can definitely be a joy to read, I personally feel that translated VNs have a lot more impact. But that's just how I feel. Definitely worth dabbing into if you like what you've played so far. Also, if you want, I can narrow down any of the lists I've linked as companies like MG and JAST tend to release games that are more centered around the "porn" aspect rather than the "story". VNs are a pretty tight niche, so they have to have something to keep them from going under. Sekai Project is a lot less porn oriented, but they mostly rely on kickstarter. Holy cow, didn't even realize I was writing this much. Probably the first time I've rambled like this in a while. Well, it's not entirely irrelevant, but it still feels pretty bloated. Well, anyways, welcome to the community! Really glad to have you with us. And feel free to ask me anything if you want to know more about VNs.

    Trolling?

Trolling is the easiest way to prove to yourself that you actually matter in some way, by inciting a reaction in other people (real emotions). It's probably less about attention than it is about feeling like your actions have an impact on the world. This explanation gives an answer to why so many people would troll when there are other ways to receive attention, and I think even more than that you should consider how reasonable it is to say that so many people are desperate for attention. I think it's much more reasonable to say that people are desperate to confirm that something about themselves matters by affecting their world in some way... the easiest way. Getting people mad by saying whatever. It's not a particularly hard skill to come by in communities bursting with youthful passion ;D Side note, I got called a troll for one of the first times ever recently for just casually saying some silly random things in a chat filled with mostly silly random things. It's kind of bothersome to be regarded as a troll when you dont mean it, but it's also bothersome to ignore trolls sometimes. I view them as a sort of inevitability. If you want the internet, then just deal with em, because that equation a few posts above mine is true of at least a few individuals out of a ten or a hundred.

    Lot's of Choices

^ +10 to this. Personally, I like Root Double more than Ever-17. Really liked how they executed the true ending. Aside from having a solid story and fully-voiced protagonists, another good point of Root Double is its well-made bad ends. A choice you made in earlier stage might affect you in the future and you don't realize you're entering the bad end til it is too late. A particular bad end totally surprised me. Only after playing about 1 hr and collecting about 5 CGs, did I realize that I entered bad end. And guess what ? The trigger is accumulation of some wrong choices I made since the start. Each of those choice didn't immediately take effect, instead they punished you at the end with an elaborate bad end. Man, that was my favorite bad end in VN so far. .

    Trolling?

Shortly after the birth of the internet, god decided to balance out the powers that be. He bestowed every newsgroup and message board with their resident troll. Tired of life under dreary bridges, these trolls emerged from their habitats to play mischief on humanity. They would often stir up debates, played devil's advocate, and disguised themselves as opposing sides of an argument. It was an art form to behold these trolls deliberately baiting people into full circle until one realized they've been had . That was how the idiom, "Don't feed the trolls" came about. Before his identity was understood, Stephen Colbert was a classic example of old fashion trolling. That art form is now lost. Having a personal computer was once a privilege owned by those with higher education, professionals and computer nerds who specialized in the science. It's now become a right to anyone but those still living in wood shacks and those still eating mud cookies. No doubt, when god gave the world internet, he advised them to multiply and be merry; and he saw that it was good. With more humankind however, invited more trouble. Trolling is now reduced to malicious attacks resulting from immaturity and well... mean spirited people in general. Repeatedly harassing others and flaming people for no good reason are now what falls under the category of trolling. The last bastion have retreated to places like 4CH, Reddit, Yahoo answers, and online gaming. May their sinful souls be cleansed in purgatory.
