It's that time of the year again, time to come up with new logos for the forum! I'm thinking that the best decision from now on is just to have different logos for each season so 4 contests total per year so that's something you can expect. Let's keep it brief as I'm sure you're familiar with things by now The theme for the second edition will be Winter Simple, straightfoward, can't get any easier. Show that winter and holiday spirit on your logos for a chance to be featured as our forums' logo for the rest of the Winter! Rules (Please read): How to interpret the theme is entirely up to you. All entries must explain why they fit the theme (even if it's something obvious like "there's snowflakes therefore winter"). Entries that fail to explain properly why they fit within the theme will be rejected. OriginalRen, Emi and myself are not allowed to participate in this contest due to winning the previous contest. This becomes null in the next contest. Likewise, the winners of this contest will not be able to participate in the contest immediately after. Only one submission is allowed per user. You may change your logo at any time during the submission phase, just make sure to indicate which is your final version (in case you post more than once) so there's no mistakes. To submit an entry you must post the logo you made in this thread or send it to me via PM if you wish to be anonymous. Entries should be around 354px by 90px and must include the title "Fuwanovel" and the sub-title "Make Visual Novels Popular in the West", but font, styling and design are up to the artist. The logo should have a transparent background, it also must be visible when being used on the layout (black letters would likely not be visible without a colored stroke for example) No porn, sexual acts, genitals, female nipples, or excessive female cleavage If you wish to add (a) character(s) to the logo there is no restriction as far as whether that character comes from a VN/Anime/Manga/etc. or whether it's Male or Female. As long as you think it looks good and doesn't violate previous rules it can be submitted We'll accept entries for 10 days after this post goes up Once 10 days pass we'll make a poll where users can vote on their favorite logos There will be three winners per contest: The "official" winner will be the logo with the most votes, the second winner will be the runner-up in the poll, and the third winner will be chosen by a secret logo council run by Tay We encourage people to be creative and have fun making logos, but all logos -- even if they win the popular vote -- have to be approved by Tay before they'll be displayed on the forums We'll cycle through the logos periodically between contests (including the old stock banner and possibly previous contest winners) Submitting a logo gives us the right to use it forever and ever however we feel like it (*evil laughter*) Logo contests will be held semi-regularly If you wish to use the default font template in your submission we have a sample of it here that you may use, there is no penalty for using it. I'll be in charge of handling the contest so any questions you may have can either be sent via PM to me or be posted here and I'll try to answer as fast as possible. The way I see it, enjoying these sorts of things is nothing to be ashamed of, which is exactly what the video tries to show us; it's entertainment. However, once you start to lose your grip on reality and block out everything else in your life believing that friends and 2D women are the only purpose for living, then it becomes an issue. I also believe the video shows how drugs (in this case smoking) is bad for your health and can seriously affect how you think about and perceive life. While the video itself uses smoking as the example however, the "drug" of being addicted to an otaku's lifestyle is also detrimental. Enjoy your hobbies, but don't let them consume you basically. Literally, as the girl does.

There ain't enough Christmas round these parts. The most Christmasy thing I've seen is that background of the main page that I fear shall crash my browser. Therefore, it's time to get into the Christmas mood (if you know what I mean (I actually mean Christmas mood (how could that even be construed as sexual; I even said "Christmas" (jeez, y'all gotta get your minds out of the gutter)))) with some Santa hats! These Santa hats: Pimp out your avatar. Spread Christmas cheer for all to hear. Are uranium-235 free! Just choose a number from the image below and I'll Santa shizzle up for you. Note that: If your avatar is a gif, it'll obviously be a lot harder to edit, so I'll have to be in a good mood. If you write me a poem about penguins in iambic tetrameter, however, I'll definitely do it. If you want another Santa hat that isn't in the image above (because you don't think my Google image clipart is good enough, you persnicketer), then feel free to post it. I'll have to do editing and stuff, though, so I'd prefer that you choose from the above list. Santa hats don't exactly go perfectly with all avatars, usually because whatever person or thing the avatar contains is too close to the top. For example, see that the hat in mine is slightly cut off. I'll still do my best, however. Don't worry about saving your avatars. I'll save all of your original avatars and then post them another topic after Christmas, assuming that I don't hold them hostage in order to make you swear the pledge to the Oxford comma. Common routes in visual novels usually give the reader some kind of expectation of what's to come, in some shape or form. Even without that, anyone who's watched or read enough stories probably has a decent grasp on storytelling tropes and cliches. So we all likely have some kind of expectation when we start on a new route in a visual novel. It could be a simple expectation of quality, an expectation of atmosphere and tone, or even an expectation of what's to come. So I wanted to ask, what character route in which visual novel surprised you the most? Maybe you had zero expectations for a route and it ended up being exceptional? Maybe the one you anticipated would be your favorite ended up being a disappointment? Perhaps the route took a sudden, dark turn you did not see coming or it even ended up being unexpectedly soul-crushing. After thinking about it a little bit, I'm surprised to say Wanko's route in Majikoi best suits the question for me. Given the the kind of VN it is and the game's general tone, I was surprised at how touching it ended up being and the extent of the character development that was shown. On top of that, she was the character I was least interested in reading a route for. So her route ending up being my favorite of the four translated ones came as a surprise to me. Majikoi spoilers for Wanko's route: Anyway, what character route ended up surprising you the most? Since this is a general topic, please try to keep all spoilers within spoiler tags.

Hello and welcome to the forum, though judging by the time you've already spent here it looks you don't really need one. As you may have noticed, most of us have got Christmas hats on their avatar. So just in case you want one as well:

Sca-自 is a genius~ Regarding Cross+Channel... pretty sure the difficulty lies within the original script and maybe partly through the shoddy translation. Mostly the script since Romeo deliberately writes in a roundabout method that is rather unconventional in comparison to anything else. That's what makes him and his works great to read through, though. (*‿*✿) By the way, I'd recommend Kazoku Keikaku, as it's a pretty great eroge indeed written by Romeo. Well, I'm not sure, but I think Kana Imouto wasn't completely written by him... I could be wrong since I never looked into that one specifically. Also, I do understand that you're not looking for anything untranslated, but I will say this because I'm currently reading it myself and have to let it be known. xD The eroge 'Saihate no Ima' is a spectacular work written by him that I feel surpasses or is at least on par with Cross+Channel. It's the most "Romeo-ish" thing I've read and its complexity is beyond anything else out there (except I/O of course, but wasn't he only a sub-writer to that?). Definitely recommend it for anyone pursuing Romeo if they're a huge, huge fan. Or like you said, if one's taking a "Tanaka Romeo journey".

If we are talking of characters, Fal wins for me. If any route works, Al Fine is the winner.

If My Heart Had Wings: Enjoyed all routes, but no route suprised me. Little Busters!: Haruka's route surprised me. I was annoyed by her character during common route but after going through her route and learning about what she went through and all that I deemed her best girl Rewrite: Lucia's route was my favorite... But Shizuru's route surprised me the most in the shock aspect Steins;Gate: Obviously true route was very intriguing, but I'll give a special mention to a little something that suprised (or rather, disturbed) me in Suzuha's 'route'. Chaos;Head: N/A Grisaia no Kajitsu: Amane. Angelic Howl is self-explanatory. G-Senjou no Maou: all character's BAD endings. Hoshizora no Memoria: Komomo

Probably the route that surprised me most was Kanata's route 1 in Devils Devel Concept... at the time, I had no idea that a VN could possibly take such a psychotic turn (makes Akiha, Hisui, and Kohaku's paths seem tame). Edit: Really, all of Devils Devel Concept's routes surprised me, because they were so... different. There was no attempt to soften the nature of the characters or to exaggerate them either. The writer took an 'in their natural setting' approach to the characters in that game that made their extreme actions all the more shocking at times.

I have literally no idea what I'm doing, but I've managed to get this far: What we have now: What I managed after an hour and a half of work: If Ouraibaa wants to send me the Moro script, or even the first 10-15 lines only, I'll see if I can actually edit a few full lines. UPDATE: I think I've figured it out. As I'm not a great programmer, I'd be doing it by hand, which means probably at least a day per route even for the side routes, but I'm willing to give it a go if the team is willing to give me a chance.

Does Al Fine, from Symphonic Rain, count? I mean, more surprise than that? Even Phorni's didn't surprise me at all Also, Lucia's route from Rewrite was not what I expected, since ii is too different from the rest of the girls. Ryukishi focused on romance in that, instead of all fighting for the world of the rest of the game.

Just finished the "bad" (can you even call it that? I think "alternative" might be more appropriate here) ending in SubaHibi's "My own creation". Wow.... where do I even start? It was way longer than I expected! And because of that, it gave me so many impressions that I won't be able to stuff them all in here even if I was to post a whole essay in here. To put it shortly, I absolutely loved it. This VN just keeps outdoing itself - with how things are going, I'm honestly afraid there is no way the rest of the arcs can even keep up. But judging by what the writer has shown me so far - I trust him to deliver on the rest of the VN as well. At the beginning of this arc, I was disappointed to leave the perspective of the #1 Cool FeMC Yuki, though I thought I could get to like Takuji a bit more now that I would see the story through his eyes. Then I was promptly reminded that this is the VN where nothing goes how you'd expect it to, though, and my impression of Takuji only worsened with each new scene. But you know what? That'S perfectly okay! Protagonists don't have to be likeable - and while this one was plain disgusting at certain points, it made the story all the more enjoyable. It definitely went into places I didn't expect. Perhaps the most unexpected one was coming across a h-scene that mgiht've been even more disturbing than anything in euphoria - and then, in contrast, a h-scene that was perhaps the most hilarious thing I've ever read. Truly, what a ride.
