This is just a general list (split into translated and untranslated) of Japanese VNs either recommended by the community at large (the translated) or by me personally (untranslated). I will take requests/additions, because non-ero is not my specialty (sounds worse than it is). The reason why? Because so far, no one has bothered to compile such a list, and as a result we've had about a half dozen request threads to this effect over the past year. Note: Untranslated console VNs won't be accepted because the unnecessarily high hurdle of not being able to use text hookers on them, which makes them too much for most of our readers.

That's really tough here, a lot of very good entries. - I like the Stray Cat one because of the Tomoyo and it's all fitting really well - melo446 with the snow on the letters is also awesome - Roach's submission i like the font he used - and the one from Major, I like what he did with the snowflake for the o -> great Maybe we should ma a logo out of all 4 of them, that would probably a great logo.

Based off your list I'll recommend a few classics first (apologies in advance if you've seen these already): Tenchi Muyo, No Need for Tenchi (manga), GXP, and Universe Saber Marionette Ah My Goddess (only technically as there is a central heroine) Ai Yori Aoshi (ditto) Neon Genesis Evangelion: Shinji Ikari Raising Project History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi (though this is more a fighting anime/manga than harem and it fits your bill since the protagonist starts out pretty weak)

Resisting the urge to buy more love gems is tough... I keep thinking that I should try again while the appearance rate is still increased, but I honestly don't know if it's worth it anymore.

Ef A fairy tale of the two has an option to remove the H scenes before you start reading.

Aoishiro has quite a few fans and is worth recommending for people who want non-ero stuff.

There's an all-ages version of Cho Dengeki Stryker.

Well for the untranslated part, lots of good VNs have console ports that are then all-ages, right? If you put Realta Nua or Amantes Amentes I guess you can put the all-ages versions of Grisaia, Iroseka/Irohika, Muv-Luv Alt (this one also has a PC all-ages version), etc... In the translated, Narcissu is worth noting.

WOW That's the ending the anime gets? I'm so done if the manga ends like this. I decided i'd just jump into the last episode since everyone here pretty much filled me in on what happened and I don't think i missed any vital parts and I don't feel like sitting through the whole thing. So basically everyone except Akame died.. yay... I also love how they just had fireworks set up for celebration, like it was already implied Night Raid would win. I agree the ending should be this way (Night Raid winning and building a new Kingdom) but the anime made it feel a little empty by literally killing off everyone without developing them properly and having Akame only showing her true power at the end like "Hey we're naming the series after her but you'll only know why at the very end!". Note that I'm okay with characters dying, but they should have meaningful deaths and I think Leone's death in particular was horribly done and had no reason to be there (yeah let's just get shot 10 times because having a strong will is much better!) other than being there to kill her off and it just made her character look bad imo and they even dare to make her go around town visiting places with 10 holes punctured in her body. Mine's death was also pretty meaningless given that she had almost no attachment to the story (because the anime cut off the romance between her and Tatsumi which would have made her death a lot more impactful). Tatsumi's death was meh, I guess he never really did have any strong points other than being hte protagonist but I still felt like they were just killing him off for the sake of killing him off, his death added no value whatsoever. Overall after going for an original ending I truly believe Akame ga Kill shot itself in the foot because the pacing and balance between the deaths and the plot progression got totally jumbled up and made it look like a joke by trying to make the climax this deathfest that was like an empty oyster. They just went haphazardly killing off characters to try and desperately make the whole thing more dramatic/impactful which in turn resulted in everything feeling rushed for no reason. Maybe I'm the only one that feels like this but eh. Do you think the manga is also approaching its end?

Oh but his fist blew her head off, as far as I'm concerned. Since Shirou literally sees Rin without a head. Unless Kuzuki pierces Rin's chest in another bad ending, which I do not remember. I don't really recall any other bad end regarding Rin being killed by Kuzuki. Or to be specific, any bad end which details the death of Rin by Kuzuki's hands. Ooor it was removed in Realta Nua and I just don't remember.

Definitely strongly against this statement of necessarily having to have one TLC or your project is guaranteed to be pretty much shit. Seriously, this really is not the case and it really depends a lot on the person that is doing the translation. Shit happens, and like the comment before mine here, a translator can burn himself out sometimes, that's a given. However that really doesn't mean you can't be good enough to TLC your own work or pull a good raw translation without actually having to depend on a TLC. In my personal opinion any given TLC really is just a waste of time for any translation out there. If you're not actually capable of taking care of the script on your own, then you're most likely not ready to be a translator just yet. It is probably thanks to sticking to Ixrec as a mentor that I can probably say this though. Then again, borrowing his words here, the very idea of seeking a TLC for everything out there falls into what is just massively overcomplicating things and having an overly high opinion of what it is we are all doing, which is just a simple fan translation. One other thing I'm also strongly against is having more than one translator work for a given project. As also recommended by Ixrec himself, it is definitely a bad idea to consider having more than one translator for a project, no matter how big it may be. You either do it or you just don't even try to. It is actually because most projects usually tend to have more than one translator that the finished work is generally a really messy mix of different translations styles that most of the time don't constitute what could be called a decent translation. But in the end there really is no need to overcomplicate stuff. A fan translation is exactly what the name implies, so my advice for any beginning translator out there would be to actually attempt to translate something following the points that were listed in this thread, definitely try to get stuff done and improve from experience alone. Also, for anyone out there actually trying you should definitely find yourself a more experienced translator that is willing to help you. It helps you improve so much faster than what you'd actually expect.

Uhh... let's see... there's some snowflakes (and one giant one), and a girl wearing a scarf because it's cold outside. And that's supposed to be a visible puff of breath (not cigarette smoke). It's kind of plain and simple, but I like the feel of it. It's not too distracting or anything.

Hoshizora no Memoria Wish Upon A Shooting Star Licensed by Sekai Project The story begins with the protagonist, Kogasaka You, moving back to his hometown, which he left behind several years ago. Upon arriving, he stumbles into an abandoned, sealed observatory, whereupon he encounters a mysterious girl who looks exactly like his childhood friend did years ago. She introduces herself as Mare, a shinigami who reaps nightmares. Meanwhile, back at school, You ends up joining the astronomy club, which is desperate need of new members. At night, he continues to visit Mare at the observatory, all the while trying to remember a certain someone's name. In 'Hoshizora no Memoria - Wish Upon A Shooting Star', the protagonist can fall in love with one of the seven heroines in the game. They are as follows: Minahoshi Asuho, Hisakaki Komomo, Hisakaki Kosame, Aoi Isuzu, Kogasaka Chinami, Ototsu Yume, and Mare S. Ephemeral.
