  1. I posted this on the visual novels subreddit, but I wanted to share it with everyone here as well. Hopefully that is okay . Here is the gallery: http://imgur.com/a/x4Bbp These were taken in late 2011. I do believe it is Narcissu's ten year anniversary, so I figured this is a fine time to showcase these photos! Narcissu was my first visual novel, and it is still my favorite to this day. After playing through the game, I wanted to discuss it with others so badly, but it was quite niche at the time, so I ended up participating in the Japanese communities. My Japanese is only average, but I just wanted to share my passion for the game with the people out there. I got to know a couple of Japanese folks who were also fans of the game. Then, in 2011, I decided to take a ten day trip in Japan. Once I told these guys about it, they were extremely friendly and proposed a meet up right away. One of these online friends happened to live around Kyoto. I stayed there for two nights, and the two of us took a day trip to visit the landmarks from Narcissu. We got to know each other thanks to the game, so there was no better way to spend the day. Even though the flowers did not blossom during October, we still made the most of our time there. We talked about scenes from the game as we passed some of the actual locations, but I will keep it vague to avoid spoilers. Though we had a language barrier, we still did our best to have a great time, and it is all thanks to this one game. This has to be what I love most about visual novels, or any fan community in general. It is when a game transcends being entertainment and creates friendships, even when we are in different parts of the globe. When an opportunity to meet up surfaces, there is something really precious about that. Thank you for reading!

Or perhaps, he has intimate connections with the very mysteries of the world itself... Scene Gallery( aka scene replay gallery) Artwork Characters Yamakazi Kusanagi While he's a lazy ass pervert who dreams of having a harem of girls at his feet, Kusanagi has a surprisingly kind hearted side. When he sees someone in trouble, he feels compelled to help them whether they be a family member, close friend or even a stranger. He started practicing jujutsu(an old kind of martial art) and kendo together with his childhood friend Kogara Sachi at the age of five, but stopped after breaking a bully's arm in a fit of rage. Besides his fruitless dreams of having his own harem, all he wants to do is become a NEET/hikikomori. It is not to be though, as Sachi has made a habit of waking him up and dragging him off to school whether he likes it or not. Kusanagi can be a charming, intelligent man when he has to, and knows how to carry himself in a fight whether it be fought with the sword, shinai, or his fists alone. Kogara Sachi Sachi is Kusanagi’s childhood friend since she was five, when Kusanagi saved her from a pack of stray dogs (which she believed to be wolves.) From then, she has helped him with everything from preparing his daily meals to helping him study. They both started martial arts around the same age, a sport that fostered their friendship and rivalry. Alvaerele Ikeshia Ikeshia the elven princess of Alfheim, who after the death of her brother she was declared the next heir to the throne by her father. She is very cold in nature and trusts no one else other than her father and her maid Elisven. Elisven Elisven is a maid at the elven palace (and Princess Ikeshia’s personal and most trusted maid, despite being somewhat awkward.) Due to her more darker skin tone, she has always been seen as a spy of the dark elves; thus, she has always been bullied and persecuted while growing up. Even now, after many years in service to Princess, she is often threatened and sometimes beaten by prejudiced individuals who still believes she’s only a spy. She is extremely loyal and feels indebted to the princess for seeing what she truly is beyond her physical appearance. 4. Mangagamer just released their 2014 look back. Included is their top 10 best sellers for the year: A whopping eight nukige in the top 10, three of which are from last year, and not a single non-nukige in the top 5. Releases this year which didn't make it to the top10 include Knights of Anal Tyranny, Lapis Gunner, Space Pirate Sara, Royal Guard Melissa and Married Nurse, five nukige, and d2B vs. Deardrops and Cartagra. With 10 nukige vs. 4 non-nukige released this year it's not completely surprising to see this kind of results, but it's still kinda disheartening to see the efforts MG makes at releasing quality, non-nukige titles do so poorly in the end. Let us just hope that it won't discourage them from trying to push a better quality for their releases, even though it doesn't seem to affect the sales at all. That's pretty already. Sekai Project also gave their top5 selling games on Steam this year: Planetarian, which was supposed to be a big thing, ended up doing less than Sakura Spirit and Nekopara. Welp. Overall thoughts on these results: (One positive note still: Kara no Shoujo LE topping the hard copy sales for Mangagamer. /me waiting for the unavoidable KnS/Cartagra/KnS 2 hardcopy bundle some time in 2016. Even though I already got the japanese versions.)

  7. Chocola does use 3rd person here and there when the situation calls for it. But SP's translation pretty much put 3rd person in almost all of her lines when she was clearly not even mentioning her own name or using any sort of kiddy speech for the matter. Most ridiculous example: Original: そうか (sou ka) SP translation: Chocola sees More fair translation by me (and anyone with half a brain) I see

  10. Hey folks ! Hope you are all doing great. Recently, I have come across a few "travel" visual novels (travel novels maybe? hoho) like Go Go Nippon or Shan Gui. They feature real locations, with links to wiki pages etc to learn more if the player chooses to. Steins;Gate also takes place in Akihabara, which is a fairly common setting in anime, VNs, etc. The difference is, it seems that in the Steins;Gate VN, it seems like many of the shops are shown exactly as they are. Animate, Taito Station, etc. Is it okay to do that? Maybe they have asked the shops for permission? As I am sure a lot of us have noticed, in American TV dramas, if a character drinks a can of coke, the label would often be covered up. Is it because they want to avoid getting sued by Coca Cola? Some say it is just because they do not want to give Coca Cola free advertising, and that they have no need to fear legal actions against them. Sleeping Dogs would be another example. The game takes place in Hong Kong. Well, who "owns" Hong Kong? Sleeping Dogs also has many street signs throughout the game, but their names are slightly changed from their real life counterparts. The district names, however, remained the same. North Point, Kennedy Town and Central. So who "owns" Kennedy Town, for example? I would be interested in knowing what the rules are. Returning to Go Go Nippon, they can mention Akihabara without changing the name, yet the store names might be a different story. How about Initial D's famous mount Akina? The real place is named Haruna, I believe, and they decided to change that. Thanks for reading the ramble folks ! I wanted to see if anyone had some insights into this matter .

  17. Gonna back this when it's ready looks really nice and with english voices, can't wait. EDIT: I played the demo, here are my thoughts: It's a little "rough" right now, some of the voices are cut in the middle. The backgrounds could use a little more work (like in the first scene, that coke bottle looks really bad) companion cube <3 . The text moves really really slow. Scenes transitions are kinda weird, they are shown just for exposition or not, you can't really tell if something is going to happen or if you need to click the mouse.

  25. MangaGamer's top 10 list only includes sales from their site, not steam sales. If they counted Steam sales Go Go Nippon would be #1 and Cho Dengeki Stryker, one of their more unpopular titles, would have taken the #2 spot, which is surprising considering how it looked like it was performing at first glance. But what it actually tells you is how their games traditionally perform when sold through their own site (previously the only way to get them). This is also why they paid their translators far below the industry standards and shied away from difficult projects. It's easy to look at that article and get depressed over how nukige continues to outsell their other stuff. But I tend to have a more optimistic outlook. First, MangaGamer continues to make a strong push for non-nukige titles despite them being demonstrably less profitable. It shows that they really don't consider profit to be the primary factor when choosing which titles to localize. The other big thing here, the advent of steam, is also a strong positive. I think it will actually push things away from nukige. When an average, relatively unpopular title manages to top everything but their #1 nukige just by being on steam, you begin to get the idea that all-ages steam releases could be the new nukige for MangaGamer. They'll continue to release all-ages ports on Steam, and if they perform as well or better than CDS, the company won't have to push out a crapload of cheap nukige to survive anymore. I also don't think it's bad for "normal" eroge, either, MangaGamer will continue pushing both all-ages and 18+ versions of their future releases (if viable). I can actually see this opening up a lot more doors for them. I can guarantee you that Neko Para and Sakura Spirit both sold way more than Mangagamer's products. The two may have sold more than MG's entire catalog combined. I wouldn't consider that "falling short". I don't know how far short the rest of their stuff fell, but I really doubt it was unprofitable. I expect that Kajitsu will end up selling very well on Steam once that is released. edit: And if you really want to feel down, you should recognize that it's highly likely that in its first week of release, HuniePop probably outsold everything listed in this thread.

  26. CD Projekt has been great since Witcher 1. They also made GoG.com which is a great site imo, drm free games. “Initially, when we were talking to different publishing partners, they were coming over to our studio with focus tests saying, 'Hey! RPG is the trend now. There has to be multiplayer, and multi-character selection, and there has to be a female character.'” said Iwińsk. “And we said, 'No, no, it's about Geralt. We have the books, we have the lore. It's true, it works, it's consistent.' "So we're not talking to these guys anymore,” he added Thank god lol. multiplayer!? Multiple characters!? Wtf, honestly...

  27. We are doing our best to get it all finished as fast as we can, however the main problem that causes us issues is the fact that there are some unique characters that screw with the scripts, which we have to take out manually, and it's hard to find those if you do it straight after you add the translations to the script. My progress with Gaku's route: this is what it looks like in game: So we just ask you to stop complaining, and to stop spreading rumors about "we don't know what we are doing, and how to repack.", not only that but we have just had christmas and we are enjoying our holidays, because we have lives to worry about too. We are going as fast as we can, so just wait alittle longer.

  28. Good. They're using the tool I released to make it, and then they went spamming 500 patches (changing like 2 words in the thing and calling it a new version) all through cash-grabbing shit links to try and make a load of money off of it. And it was all machine-translated anyway, er0gamr didn't do shit. I don't support them at all, and I wish I could revoke their usage of the tool I gave them and stop them from pulling that money-grubbing crap, but I can't. So either way, just ignore them. If they get annoyed, even better. The project at Nekohen isn't related to Clephas' one here though just to be clear, it's done by some people on HongFire.

  32. Well this Manga was a pretty good ride while it lasted. Looks like it'll end like Gantz did - with a thud. Anyone else thought it was too easy for the Revolutionary Army to take over just because Budo died? Like seriously, is the Empire that fragile that they put all their money into one General who didn't even trust them? This was too rushed.

  33. ^^^^^^ Yeah, that's more or less what I thought. I knew I read about this issue before but I didn't have sources or a firm recollection. That only applies to America though, Japan is a whole different ballgame thanks to their different fair use laws/interpretations. In America that shit wouldn't fly, so it's ironic that the country with stricter copyright laws ends up being lax towards selling unofficial goods that violate trademarks. But ultimately, it's up to the companies themselves to police trademark. There are no governmental organizations that monitor this kind of thing, so each trademark and copyright holder has to be vigilant in protecting their property, and in Japan they intentionally turn a blind eye to doujin. That doesn't mean it's legal, just that the intellectual property owners don't act out against it. This happens for two reasons, one being that they acknowledge that these fan works tend to raise awareness for their brands and can actually promote sales of their own products. They don't compete, but complement each other. The other reason is that suing creators of doujin works for infringement earns a LOT of ire in Japan, even from people way outside the doujin's target audience. There have been controversies over this in the past, and it doesn't usually end well for the plaintiffs. So these companies would rather let sleeping dogs lie.

  37. F/SN only has three routes, and you play them in sequential order. But there are a lot of choices that can lead to many bad ends. You can look at the More Than Seven Heroines tag on VNDB: https://vndb.org/g743?fil=tagspoil-0.tag_inc-743;m=0;o=d;s=pop Some notes about that, LB only qualifies when you consider the untranslated EX version, DC2 only qualifies with the untranslated Plus Communication version although the translated version has six routes and many choices along the way (although they only determine which of six routes you end up on), Majikoi only qualifies when looking at the side heroines, although those side routes can be surprisingly lengthy. To Heart 2 is alright but half of it is untranslated. Many of the gameplay ones have many heroines but you often just end up screwing them along the way in one of a select few routes. Ultimately, what you want isn't available in a many translated VNs. If you're looking for VNs with a complicated route structure with many choices, maybe you should look at Tsukihime and Clannad.
