  1. Since I got tired wrestling with a ton of stuff, and I have no Imagination, here it is: Omitted: Hidamari Sketch, Atelier Shallie hype, stuff I didn't steal from other sources, a blanket for his' illness, Persona, Pancakes, Little Busters, platinum disco, m.m. LN's or VN's

I'm a big fan of LNs, though I rarely read popular ones. My all time favorite LN would definitely be Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria. Others such as Gekkou, Sayonara Piano Sonata and Hikaru ga Chikyuu are honorable mentions. As for my preference, it depends on what I'm in the mood for, really. Like Eclipsed mention above, LNs lack colorful visuals along with music and voice acting. However, that also means that LNs do allow more freedom for imagination. Also (shameless advertising incoming), if you want some recommendations, feel free to check out my thread dedicated to under appreciated LNs. Link is in my signature

    LN's or VN's

I most definitely need to start getting more into Light Novels.. especially given the fact that some of the highly-regarded writers in eroge out there are now writing them. For example, I'm currently reading one titled 'Humanity Has Declined/Jinrui ha Suitai Shimashita/人類は衰退しました' and it's by the one and only Romeo Tanaka, who wrote such works as Cross+Channel and Saihate no Ima. Even from what little I've read of Jintai, it's nothing short of an absolute masterpiece, and many others agree. Not to forget mentioning how it's continued success shows with the fact that there's an entire anime adaptation available. I'm then guessing the other eroge writers who saw his or maybe another's success probably decided to jump on that bandwagon too. I mean, I was also made aware of the 'Saekano' series, which is by Maruto (guy behind White Album 2 and Parfait).. and etc. so I'm pretty sure this is a new world revolution or something (笑). In any case, I definitely recommend to the people who enjoyed their experiences throughout the eroge/VN medium to also check out some of the rather lesser known but great works in the Light Novel medium. Hakomari is just one example of that, because there's probably going to be more where that came from onwards. Although I guess it really sucks when you don't get any opportunity to listen to stuff like reading a "novel".. (; ̄д ̄) Yeah uhh, I think I'll stick to playing Japanese Porn Games most of the time in that regard lol. When I finally start another Light Novel, it's likely I'll have some music playing to accent it because I really like music. (music is a big part of what drives me to watching anime or playing these games, actually)

  24. Hmmm, I was initially avoiding this because I had question marks over the writing. BUT I had a look at the trailer and it looks decent (can't really tell, it's hard to get a detailed impression from a trailer,) I'll have to give the demo a try. My interest has officially been piqued. Good luck with your campaign, 10,000 pounds is a lot of money to raise.

  25. Reason for it not being on by default? Almost ALL of my edits are me fixing a spelling error or something else dumb like that. So almost all of my posts would have a weird yellow thing under them. That sounds like it would be unsightly no? 'Course, I guess I could just disable it if it was enabled by default, so I guess that wouldn't be a problem.

    Hi, all!

Hello! So I heard about this site only a few days ago, and I think it's amazing! I mean, people giving each other recommendations on visual novels and helping each other learn Japanese - I honestly felt bad lurking here, so I signed up, haha. A bit about me: I'm a college student who sometimes plays visual novels, but mainly RPGs (favorite genre is probably mystery), though I'm a novice at Japanese comprehension, haha. I don't really browse forums at all, so I'm kinda new to all of this. Anyway, it's good to finally be a part of the community!

    Marie's Tld VNs Corner

As everyone knows, I play a lot of VNs. Clephas has his threads to talk about untranslated works, and they're pretty neat. It's nice to get reviews on releases or just random VNs he plays. I'm probably the person here with the most knowledge of translated VNs, so I thought "why not give this corner thingy a try". So, here I am. Whenever I read, re-read or feel like writing about a random VN, I'll post those here. Hopefully the thread will be of some use to get everyone to play some more VNs~ I'll basically introduce some VNs and give my thoughts on them. The introduction part may be a bit boring for the people who know the VN already... But what I'm aiming at here is having people who don't know those VNs play them. If you already know the VN I'm talking about, you're not my target audience. If you can still have fun with the post, that's great, though <3 It'd be kind of weird to post the thread without any mini-review, though... Well, recently enough, I've been replaying Daibanchou. Daibanchou is a game mostly reliant on it's strategy RPG gameplay. Simply put, the story isn't good enough to keep you playing it by itself. A mostly generic story and underdeveloped characters make the story not enough to keep you going solely because of it. I would say that differently from some VNs where gameplay is something that complements the story, gameplay is the main focus of the game here. That and H-scenes. There are a lot of them. Now, Daibanchou is an alicesoft game. That's self-explanatory for many people, but alicesoft has their own, eh, style when it comes to telling a story... And that style is generally convenient wacky bullshit with ok comedy that eventually leads to serious story segments (that will generally revert to the usual wacky bullshit shortly afterwards). Still, their wacky bullshit is fun. It's not exhaustive to read, and the fights you'll be conducting should be enough incentive on their own to make you pass through those fun moments. In daibanchou's case, you have a badass protagonist with his badass crew fighting their way to conquer Japan and destroy the system to make something new. Meanwhile, our protagonist is recovering special, superpowerful buttons that came from who-knows-where that just turn out to be in the hands of large faction leaders to make his kuu-kinda-tsundere super fast wolf fiance go back to her human form. Getting those buttons will force you to fight your way through tanks, vampires, ninjas and pirates (or religious freaks, depending on which route you pick) and be a badass all through it. Also, don't mind the fact you do have a fiance. You're free to have sex with anyone. She doesn't seem to care about it. The other girls don't either. You have amnesiac katana-wielding submissive proper japanese girl with super regeneration, try-hard megane class rep who can capture enemies easier, loli doll magical-girl who hits from far away and gives tea to everyone, blonde ojou-sama political-ish leader who inspects countries and has lots of guts and ninja-girl whose route I never bothered to finish (what, reality is tough. I can't know about everyone ) I have this feeling there's another heroine. All of them have separate routes. And there are sex scenes with plenty of characters who aren't those too, just in case you're wondering. I also feel like I should warn everyone that mandatory rape will happen in this game (though not by the protagonist, differently from Rance). You're free to follow through all routes whenever you want, except for one of them. Your decision on which place to conquer in the second chapter will permanently seal one heroine route of two. The routes are easy to follow through once the girl appears in your harem (just have sex with her when you get the chance to. It's not hard) but getting the girl to appear in your harem can be troublesome. Oh, by the way, everyone got their superpowers when a hole to hell (or something like it, anyway) opened up in the middle of Japan a few years before everything started. Except only students got superpowers. Because reasons. What I told you so far is the basic plot of the game. There's a lot more hidden behind it. The hidden parts of the story are interesting... But all in all, you'll be playing to get the not-so-post-apocalyptic battle royale experience where your small group of badasses fights against small armies and other groups of badasses. All of them with superpowers or some other similar gimmick. The characters are fun, and even if you dislike them, you just don't have to trigger their events. You can even just fire a character you don't like if you don't want them to be in your army. The game gives you a lot of freedom in that aspect. The soundtrack is pretty neat, and I personally like the style (though I know it's not for everybody). All in all, if you like this type of thing, maybe you'll want to try out the game. I rated it a 9 because I enjoyed it a lot, though it's probably more of a 7 or 6.

  37. It's somewhat unclear what age range the audience is, which makes it somewhat harder to recommend. So, I'm going to stick to recommendations that work basically regardless of age. I wholeheartedly second Moribito - that's the single best fit I can think of for "things to recommend for a little sister" Wolf Children is a good movie recommendation, so I'll second that as well, but Summer Wars doesn't feel quite right; it doesn't give much stage time to its young female characters, except for the very early part and the very late part of the movie, from what I can recall. If I'm just misremembering on that point, then that's a good recommendation too, since it is a very good movie. Natsume's Book of Friends might be a good choice... a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of everyday life, and every episode is a beautiful story. However, it also suffers from "not enough stage time for female characters". Another potential major down-side: no dub available. This doesn't line up with the theme of fantasy at all, but if I had a little sister, I'd probably be recommending K-On! to her. Could be that's a misread on my part, though, and it probably depends on whether your sister is interested in music (or likely to be interested in music). You might also go for something more shoujo that isn't too over-the-top/heavy. Perhaps Fruits Basket? Probably not Ouran, unless she's older than I'm inferring.

  38. There is no true route the way I see it. The plot of If My Heart Had Wings is centered around building a glider and finding the morning glory/riding through it and pretty much every route does that so in theory every route is a plausible conclusion to the plot. Amane's route isn't more special than the others, it's just that it presents more backstory to the plot, but in terms of conclusion there's really nothing that the other routes don't do already, they're all their own conclusion to the plot.

    K - POP Fuwa fans

Ah, cool! A K-Pop thread! Yeah, I'll toss my hat in the ring here. I went through the list here and it's not bad at all...Girl's Generation is pretty much a cornerstone to enjoyment of this genre. Maybe I can help you find a few more songs seeing as I live in Korea (not Korean though) and get to hear the new stuff pretty regularly walking around. Here's a couple of my favorites, older and newer: CNBlue - Can't Stop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75KBwVtd_W0 UI - You & I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJR8Inf77Ac K.Will - Day 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KVVPxexz1c So You & Jung Gi Go - Some https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-FhDScM_2w AOA - Dan Bal Muh Li (Short Hair) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5wzkQvzp4c There's a few I like quite a bit... got a rather extensive list. I never really cared for K-Pop when I first got here but it grows on you, pretty awesome stuff after a while. Helps after you learn the language a bit too, so if you need help understanding/reading some Hangeul, let me know, I might be able to help
