You mean when the IRC was troll-bombing the forum in outrage about some rule? Or when we were having rice and noodle threads? Or when the whole unban run shitstorm unfolded? Fuwa is not going to shit, it's just going through the usual cycle where some older users feel at odd with the newer members, and where there's a discrepancy between the various groups that form themselves around the forum. (And actual VN discussion not being enough present on the forum also comes up every few months to be honest, it's always been pretty much the same)9 points

Coliseum of Chatter Rules These are guidelines meant to be followed when posting in the Coliseum of Chatter board, please make sure to read them. No excessive amount of private joke threads. If a joke is good enough that it can be enjoyed by many without being offensive, it's okay, but otherwise let the private jokes remain private. No cluttering the Recent Topics box If one thread is funny, that doesn't inherently mean you have to create 5 more threads that are just slightly different after it, this clutters the new threads and buries other more significant threads, please try to keep other threads in mind when posting. If we see too many threads needlessly cluttering the box, your thread might be hidden and you will be notified about it. No excessive trolling There's funny trolling that people can get behind and there's "enough is enough" trolling. If we see the same person/group of people keep posting the same kinds of threads in succession that have little to no purpose to them and clearly have the intent of provoking, the threads will be hidden. Private groups need to remain private This goes for outside groups of Fuwanovel such as Teamspeak and Skype groups. We don't hate you and you're more than welcome to try and engage with the community and even have your own dedicated thread. However, do not make several threads that are centralized about your private group, leave all the jokes in the same thread unless you have something that you believe is worthy of sharing with the community The Chatter board is not a sex board. While everyone's entitled to have their sexual fetishes and preferences and despite eroge being very prominent in the visual novel scene, please remember to not have overly sexualized discussions, take those into private discussions instead. Try being a little serious We all know the chatter section is for having fun and be random, but when making a thread, please try to give it some form of topic and proper discussion and at the very least your own opinion on the subject. Threads sharing a single video or image for example really serve no purpose if you don't expand on said content in the OP. If we see a thread really has absolutely no purpose in existing, we will hide it if we see fit to do it.8 points

Lately I can see Fuwa is being a sewage full of turd. What happened to Fuwa, what happened to making a new front page, expanded the "Visual Novels to the west?" Nowadays all I see is horny males making pointless topics, good thing we have mods to remove these! Oh wait... I want the old Fuwa back we're Both genders where treated equal and everyone knew each other, and was Friendly! ( I know... everyone being Friendly? whaaa) Maybe I'm just getting old.. Wishing for the past, wishing for Fuwa to return to it's former glory. Until this comes I fear I'll just become another lurker, because I don't want to take apart in "Todays" Fuwa. ((Incoming comments such as, "Oh, you're no fun." " Where only joking". Fuwa needs to mature again...))6 points

Just wondering. For the people complaining about Fuwa's current community, do you have any idea how toxic most VN communities were before Fuwa was around? I agree that there are problems, but generally our problem is being too accepting. And no matter how you look at it, that's way better than being a bunch of elitist pricks to one another.6 points

Yeah, this is actually the 1001th since I didn't notice and wasted my 1000th post on that motivation thread. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Anyway, what should I do then... Well, just a quick re-introduction, I guess. I'm Satsuki, a Vietnamese guy that is studying abroad in New Zealand. I'm a 3rd year student in IT course. I started getting into manga/anime about 3 and half years ago. At that time, I just came to NZ, and had no friend whatsoever here. The internet connection was pretty bad too, so I couldn't do any online gaming with my friends back in Vietnam. I was so bored, so I started looking for some "comic" to read (Doraemon, Detective Conan...). And that was when a pink haired girl on the cover of an "unknown comic" attracted me - she was Nakagawa Kanon from The World God Only Knows. And I started reading. That was the first time I know about words like "manga", "anime", "galge", and of course, moe. Not long after that, I got curious about anime, so I decided to try out one, and soon got addicted after marathon-ed through the whole Madoka series and both two seasons of TWGOK. 6 months after, when I was reading a manga (can't remember which one), I had a fateful encounter with my waifu - Noumi Kudryavka. The scanlation team of that manga was using her CG for their credit, and her cuteness shot through my heart right from the first sight (yeah, sound so shameless, I know, but who cares). I immediately tried to look for her. That was when I know about Little Busters, about Key, and the Visual Novel world. All sort of thing happened, and here I'm today, no longer be a newbie brat with limited knowledge inside a spoon. Of course, I'm still just a chicken, compare to tons of people on Fuwa here, so please take care of me in the future! Some random facts about me: - When I pick a M/A/VN, art is always the top priority for me. If the art sucks, then no matter how good the story is, I will still throw it right out of the window. - Despite being a dedicated member of Vietnam Key Fan Club, the only Key's work I watched/played were LB, AB!, RW and Planetarian. No Clannad, no Air, no Kanon for me. Reason above. - My VNDB list is ridiculously long with over hundred titles. However, most of them, or actually, every VNs outside of the "finished" list, I only played like half of the common route or less. I just simply download everything that caught my eyes, despite knowing that I will never have the time to finish them all. - I bought a bunch of nendoroid, even though I have no where to put them (I'm living in school apartment. My room only has some basic furniture). - Despite all of my rampages about H-scenes, I still have some pure nukige in my collection. Stuff like Marunomi, Double Phase, Erohon wo Sutete and such... - I tend to just do what I want without caring about how other people think about me. In the end year project of my Game Development class, I even used my OELVN at that time from Pure Ribbon studio for my presentation (of course, 99% of the class looked at me like "wtf is this freak talking about?"). I even watch anime and play VN after school, using school's PC when the internet connection at my place got all tsuntsun. - Not much different than in 2D world, I'm also only interested in girls that are younger than me IRL. No, not like primary schooler or something. But still, if I ever get a girlfriend, she will have to be younger than me (or at worst, same age). Going out with an older girl just makes me feel like she is my older sister, rather than girlfriend. - I sucks at writing, even in my language. My highest essay score was 6/10. - My first crush was my classmate in high school. Now I think about it, she is pretty much a 3D loli... - My friend is a cross-dresser. Because of him, I took an interest in cross-dressing myself. Haven't got a chance to actually do it though... ... ... ... Geh, I talked too much. Ugh....5 points

This. People were saying the same things when I joined the forum, and I've seen it plenty of times on other websites. Fuwa has always had its fair share of shit topics since I've been here. Waifu threads, things like which "dere" are you, h-scenes in VNs... It's true that actual discussion on visual novels and the industry is lacking, but that's been a persisting trend since I can remember.3 points
-
Especially the coliseum of chatter has had it's fair share of, well, garbage threads lately... having fun is good and all, but I've noticed a lot of the threads are just inside jokes from people in a side community, the skype one in particular, as that's where I'm most active myself. Personally, I really don't see why you'd have to post something like that here on the forums, as you're basically excluding all the 'outsiders' from what you're talking about. I'd like to ask people to think why they're making a thread, instead of just spamming posts, because that's really what it feels like sometimes.3 points

YouTube Video Apology
Tohka and one other reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
It has come to my attention that some individuals on Fuwanovel (particularly females) may have been offended by the video I made for my YouTube channel regarding butts. If that is the case, I want to apologize to you, as that's not okay. I made the video with the intent of making people laugh at something that I openly talk about all the time. While I do find that area of a female physically attractive, I hope nobody feels that physical characteristics are the only way I judge females in any way, shape, or form. I have personally spoken to a lot of females on and around this site. They are all fantastic individuals who I have had the pleasure of getting to know. My video wasn't meant to disrespect them or anyone else, nor was it meant to represent myself as an immature child who trash talks others. I fully respect everyone on this forum a whole lot, hence the reason I love doing things for everyone here. In fact, I am extremely excited to see people's faces light up next month when prize shipments start shipping! Again, it was not my intention to offend anyone if that was the case. I hope you can accept that apology. The video has been removed and the thread has been deleted.2 points -
My immediate reaction was to lock the first of these after seeing how the discussion was degrading. I was not around for the follow ups. However, due to the lack of definitive rules regarding this type of thing, as well as the fact that I have been reprimanded for taking action in the past for things that seemed perfectly logical to me, I was hesitant to do so. I regret that decision now and apologize for not taking action sooner.2 points
-
Perfect reaction image. Well, um, I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I think H-Scenes for the most part are extremely unnecessary and most VNs could do a lot better without them.2 points

Everyone just needs to learn Japanese. Then they can play all the VNs. Then we'll have more VNs to talk about. Problem solved. Batta bing batta bang batta boom.2 points

I hate those moments where MC and female A are about to kiss or some shit and something stops them at the very last second. You know... those moment breakers. This applies to more than just VNs... I mean it is especially bad in anime, but I have noticed it in VNs as well.2 points

For me, the primary priority is always getting the heroine I want. Everything else is secondary. Otherwise, I use a mix of roleplaying and my own discretion to make choices. School Days is an example of a choice system I really liked. They're "grey" choices in a lot of respects that don't really fit any of your categories. Any given choice could have moral, character connection, and strategic elements to it. On one hand, you want to favor the girl you have your heart set on. On the other hand, doing so might be morally problematic (it seems like a jerk move). On top of that, one of the choices might appear to lead to a better outcome. And on top of THAT, Makoto's fancy seems to seesaw back and forth from girl to girl in a very human way as events transpire and he becomes closer to or estranged from one girl or the other, and as a roleplayer I allowed that to influence my decisions. It's a really beautiful system.2 points

This is a quick guide to get people familiarized with Fuwanovel's mythos. It's very important to know as this is deeply tied with how Fuwans spend their daily lives and you wouldn't want to make a mistake to anger them. After reading this, I am confident you will understand how Fuwanovel works from the inside out. Deities and other notorious figures Scottsune Miku Scott is our lord and savior. He offers us Domino's pizza and lets us have fun with Hatsune Miku. Every person on Fuwanovel needs to at least pay him proper respect and thank him for the life they've been given. He has done many feats in the past such as become the person with the most posts, most profile views, most warning points and most swag. He truly is the definition of a God. Praise Scott OriginalRun #UnbanRun Run was once banned and forever he shall not be unbanned. So the laws of physics dictate. Pleading for Run to be unbanned is a natural occurence, but it shall go unheard for eternity. Azusa Azusa is the best grill, she descended from the heavens to save the anime industry and we shall praise her for it. She is also the most efficient weapon in dealing with TheMajor. Asuna Although the pronounciation is similar, you mustn't mistake Asuna for Azusa, it is a grave offense. Asuna is the worst grill. Some say she is a direct relative to Satan, I wouldn't be surprised. You may bash Asuna anytime you'd like. Cloudfare Whenever Fuwanovel stops working, it's cloudfare's fault. No exceptions. Pulltop Notoriously known for destroying OriginalRun's youtube account, Pulltop runs a Yakuza gang that scouts out youtube videos and sends them DMCAs. They are a very dangerous entity and should not be messed with. Some say it was because of the Pulltop Yakuza that Fuwanovel had to take down all their torrents. They often attract people with cute moege. Beware, this is only a trap to lure you in and get DMCA strikes. Approach with caution. Moenovel The company responsible for the atrocity of a translation that is If My Heart Had Wings. Everything wrong in the Visual Novel industry can be compared to Moenovel. Moenovel shall always be used when complaining about game translations, in any discussion ever. Other Important Objects of Worship Milky Holmes Milky Holmes is the greatest anime of all time. This is ditacted by our lord Scott and mustn't be defied. The only thing better than Milky Holmes is more Milky Holmes Bananas Bananas are Fuwanovel's official fruit. Please eat bananas regularly to stay healthy. Pancakes There is a weapon for every villain. If you ever encounter a subject by the name of solidbatman, know your weapon of choice should always be pancakes. Pancakes became notorious for fending off against solidbatman after he was subject to torture with pancake overload when streaming Little Busters for over 24 hours. They usually prove quite effective. When used, pancakes often cause salt to be created Salt Most fuwans produce salt, especially when angered. You can often see salt dripping from threads and posts, it's one of Fuwanovel's more precious minerals and lots of people enjoy collecting it. Lolis Lolis are to Fuwanovel what coal is to a furnace. They keep the site running. School Days HQ The worst visual novel in history. Only the brave try to touch it with a 10 foot pole. Spam Fuwanovel's insides are mostly made of spam, it is the thing that inflates the forum in content as well as people's post count. My Blender A picture of my blender. Fuwanovel Timeline While hard to grasp for newcomers, Fuwanovel runs on a timeline named Soon What happens in this timeline is, for every new feature that's annouced, a wormhole is created which causes the creation of that feature to be stuck on a sort of limbo. Fuwanovel is perpetually threading this Soon timeline. But it's not to say that the timeline is an infinite loop. Sometimes, through several riots, Fuwanovel is able to temporarly leap out of the Soon timeline and create something new. But the attraction field surrounding the Soon timeline is very strong so these divergences are scarce and far in between. Too many riots often also result in Fuwapocalypses And this is the reason Fuwanovel is in a state of continuous monotony. I hope with this post you became more knowledgable about Fuwanovel and the magic that goes on behind the scenes. With this knowledge, you can now become an official Fuwan! Praise Scott1 point

The thing is, why would you even want to be like them? It's like when you're in school and the teacher tells you off but you say "But he/she is doing it too". It doesn't matter what the other VN communities do, it's about what we do And what we do to represent ourselves and how to show that we really care about what we all believe in.1 point

I've been around Fuwanovel for quite a while myself and I have nothing significant to complain about. Yes Fuwa used to be a lot smaller, and it certainly had it's appeal as a super small community. I do have nostalgic memories of getting into interesting debates with people about VNs. Our debates were quite civil and never really derailed, but that was also because there were far fewer people to involve themselves in the discussion. Also, during those days the forums had phases of virtually being dead at times. Largely I think this is pretty much the same Fuwa it's always been just with a lot more users (and minus Aaeru, Ryoji, and Steve). That's not say that some of the stuff you complained about doesn't bother me, but as Down pointed out Fuwa always had irrelevant and stupid discussions at times. It also has really intelligent and interesting discussions other times (as it always has).1 point

Oh yes, now I remember why I wrote this. The "functioning" of the VN translation community struck me as absurdity of the highest level. I wrote this piece to convey the utter dysfunction I saw. I could easily write a sequel based on the following concepts / events: The NNL / minori debacle Aroduc's Littlewitch Romanesque Kickstarter Flame War I: Paradise lost in the chaste gardens of Grisaia Flame War II: The Days are no longer Shiny, A tale of Kokoro lost The Steam Revolution: Now with 20% less content! Sekai Project: Now renewably powered by the tears of the VN fanbase. Go go Project Sakura! JAST USA: Support JAST's censorship of crazy games from Japan! I can only give you untranslated suggestions, but here they are: Evolimit Tokyo Babel Tiny Dungeon (the series) Nanairo Reincarnation Silverio Vendetta (in the sense that the protagonist is fairly hilarious) Draculius Hapymaher Harumade, Kururu Natsumade, Yururu Natsu no Owari no Nirvana Tsuki ni Yorisou, Otome no Sahou Tsuisou no Augment (both) Baldr Sky Zero (both) Yurikago yori Tenshi Made Hello, Lady Akatsuki no Goei (series) Electro Arms Lovesick Puppies Remiscence Tojita Sekai no Tori Colony To varying degrees, these all fulfill your 'serious but with gags/hilarity' request. Something to look forward when you overcome the handicap you and I were both born with, not knowing the one true language. Edit: I'd recommend Akatsuki no Goei, because Grisaia in many ways mimics Akatsuki no Goei's best points, as well as some of its worst (such as being three games rather than one, with the original perfectly playable as stand-alone). Evolimit is a good choice if you like science-fantasy, because it is both hilarious, serious, and inspiring. If you want more of a focus on hilarity, Tiny Dungeon is probably the best choice, simply because Rosebleu's humor is really easy to get into. Last of all, I'd say that Hello, Lady or Yurikago yori Tenshi Made would be a good choice if you like some fantasy mixed in and want that peculiar mix of hilarious character interactions, unique protagonists, and extreme seriousness all jumbled together.1 point

I'm not a fan of H-scenes in general, but I'll third the opinion that Kanon's are awful, and second Flutterz's advice to avoid the ones you can. I did play both F/SN and Kanon in the last six months, and definitely found Kanon's to be worse in a lot of ways (art, in particular, is a good point, but the writing is awful too - at least I don't recall them being as ridiculously long as F/SN's). That said, most likely the first time you get a choice like this, it will not be obvious that you are making said choice anyway. I read Mai's route first and was pretty surprised when the H started up out of nowhere. Having no desire whatsoever to see it, I very intentionally avoided Makoto's completely when I saw I was going down that road, but did suffer through the others since I felt at least a niggling bit of interest. I should have squashed that feeling.1 point -
