And just when you thought the new generations will be more liberal and open-minded... You were wrong. Sixty years ago they put blame on the rock. Then on the drugs, then on the rap and cartoons. Right now they stigmatize the internet. Within the next decade they will blame genetically engineered catgirls. It's been always like that and I doubt it will ever change. I can only hope you'll be able to raise your children (if you'll ever have any, to start with ) in a more appropriate manner than the previous generations.1 point

Fuwacast Episode 12 - YouTube Upload + Update
Tay reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
I have uploaded episode 12 of the Fuwacast to my YouTube channel. The Major, who created all of the videos for my channel, has done an excellent job giving the cast a new look in celebration of its revival. The theme now reflects the changes which are going to be made to the front site; we are now using Emi's theme instead. The format of the videos has also changed slightly to make following the episodes a lot easier. Again, I want to thank The Major and Emi from the forums for taking the time to both create this video and give it an awesome new look. Thanks guys, and enjoy.1 point -

What manga are you currently reading?
Soulless Watcher reacted to hsmsful for a topic
I am reading denpa kyoushi atm but I gotta say that the anime adaptation was rather a let down, more like it feels ridiculous in anime but glorious in anime. Yeah something like that. Other than that, I really like this manga, too bad that there are no more updates (heard the author is sick or something like that). . It would be one thing if they played it for laughs, but it's totes serious with dark friendship betrayals and junk. Well, the series does have a "yuri" tag so I have to see where this is going....1 point -

I would like the suggestion of Irresponsible Captain Tylor Also Evangelion was rather enjoyable like watching a train wreck. Not as bad as guilty crown (the wreck is strong in this one) and a classic but honestly it's overhyped. It's not bad probably would give it a 7 overall although had it had a better ending I probably would have given it an eight. I've seen it before mind you and the rebuild series grew on me more than the original did originally. Best girl is Pirate Asuka1 point

My bad, I changed them into the more common terms (true route). Also, if you are curious, BBL stands for Bad Boys Love. Anyway, there is no romance whatsoever despite the route's name. To be fair, I rarely troll. If you want to get a glimpse, try out Yuuya/Shuu route first. Among the individual routes, they are the better ones. They also provide more insight into the true route than the others. It is surprisingly similar in vein with Ever17 and the likes that I mentioned above.1 point

PRETTY x CATION 2 -- Intense lag caused by E-mote system
surrendertome reacted to monkeysrumble for a topic
I have a feeling that your system might not be able to handle it, but I'm honestly not 100% sure since VN's don't need that good of a system to run. I found this thread on vndb that talks about the same issue here and the OP has the same GPU. https://vndb.org/t6448 I would take my thoughts with a grain of salt though, as I'm still looking for the system requirements for the game.1 point -

I'd like to step in from the sideline and say a few things. It makes me really sad to see how this whole thing unfolded. Was it really necessary to call Fuwanovel a sewage full of turd? Why wasn't this addressed in private message, instead of making a thread that was absolutely guaranteed to blow up in to a fight? Really, there was no reason why this couldn't have been handled in private between the offenders and staff. If the OPs were made aware of somebody being offended by their threads, I'm sure they would have apologized and this whole incident could have easily been avoided. The staff could have made a PSA reminding people about the rules of the forums, and how Fuwa prides itself in being a welcoming community for everyone, so it's important to think about others before posting something like that. The Fuwans would understand. Instead we have 7 pages of arguing over this supposed "sexism" that really didn't need to happen. Saying that you like butts or breasts isn't sexism, by the way. But I can absolutely understand it making people uncomfortable. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I mean, I'm not exactly comfortable talking about sexual stuff. But, looking back at this thread... I don't really see the point. A few members made mistakes. They got carried away. Threads got deleted and warnings were probably issued. It was done. Over. But the angry reaction to all of this really just did it for me. I know it sounds immature, but I was legitimately upset to the point where I just wanted to leave Fuwa (and I wasn't even involved in any way!). The most important thing to me is I really hope this incident didn't create more divides than there already are in the community, but I can't help but think it did. I guess that's it. There's a reason why I don't normally jump in to these heated debates over forum policy and stuff. I basically try to avoid confrontation and arguing at all costs. Not to mention that writing isn't really my strong suit, so I have trouble getting my feelings into words. That's it, though. I just wanted to say a few things. I know I'm late to the thread, but I was waiting for everything to slow down before I said anything.1 point

How Can Visual Novel Players Expose Newcomers to the Genre?
kingdomcome reacted to sanahtlig for a topic
Consider the audience for VNs: gamers basically. You need a PC to play most VNs. That limits your audience right off the bat. On top of that, most VNs worth playing are of considerable length. The need to sit and watch a screen for extended periods of time further turns away laptop gamers. Laptops aren't designed to be used like that; the ergonomics just don't work. That leaves people with dedicated home PCs. Then consider typical gamer expectations of what a game should be. Gamer culture is focused on interactivity and gameplay elements. VNs are typically missing these. Then consider the anime culture element. VN fans are mostly a subset of anime fans, which is problematic since anime culture is pretty synonymous with "not paying for content". To anime fans, VNs are graphically less interesting, further making VNs a difficult sell. Add on to that the porn element. Most VNs have adult content. Again, the prevailing wisdom is that it's stupid to pay for porn. The porn element also prevents the games from being marketed in mainstream channels: e.g., review sites, retail outlets, gaming communities.. Now consider the target demographics for VNs: young adult males (with dedicated home PCs). This demographic is generally technologically savvy with a lot of time and not a lot of money. In other words, they're a bunch of pirates that won't pay for anything unless they absolutely have to. Add all these factors together, and it's incredibly hard to market VNs to people.1 point -

VNs need more adults in them!
narrlocke reacted to AlexZandria for a topic
I read some school aged type VNs but then those end upbbeing ike Dangan Ronpa. I don't know that I've ever read a full on moege before? I really enjoy dark themes. As for heroines, it pisses me off that everyone and their mother are still a virgin when the protag bangs them. Otherwise the few that aren't are antagonists it feels like. I'm all for some mature women who have had actual experiences and understand a bit more about life and love. I'm not saying I want females who screw every boy they meet but that whole shy way too innocent for a kiss thing weirds me out. Other than that I like the school setting but I wish there were more good realism settings that weren't school. It is like school, fantasy, sci fi, horror. No modern "realism" without the school. Can we not have mature women in an office or part of a book club or like journalist buddies? Something?1 point -

I kind of intended to do this in my old introduction thread, but I guess it should have it's own topic since I think it's kind of special (to me, to a certain someone, who exactly you'll know in just a second. The last post of my introduction thread was by Naomi, its contents couldn't be any more relevant right now, in an incredibly funny, sweet and ironic way: I really want to share something with everyone; It's part continuation, part reboot of my introduction thread. So many things have went down and changed ever since I wrote the opening post, the most noticable part of it being that Aaeru has effectively left, or at least it feels like it. For a while - remember this happened right after the Fuwapocalypse - it really took the wind out of my sails. I wanted to quit right then because Aaeru's feedback has always been the thing that kept me going, even though we often imagined things in different ways, she always appreciated my input or my approach to things. That's where the support from everyone came in: Two groups of very close friends, most of which I already mentioned in my original post (especially Tay, who has been an amazing colleague and friend), but also a lot of new people someone very special and dear to me brought in: Naomi. We've been friends pretty much ever since I joined the IRC and we happened to come in contact with each other. We've gone through an immense amount of bullshit happening to both of us, like the drama surrounding the IRC and some issues when she first got promoted to a moderator, but we've pretty much stuck through those and grown closer over it - a lot closer. All the pain and hard work we went through paid out in the end, and Naomi and I are going to meet up during her spring break, as kind of a last confirmation that we work out in person as well - even though I don't have any doubts about that with how wonderful everthing about her is - and we're planning on living together after she graduates high school at the latest with how my job possibilities are laid out - I'm glad (and kind of embarassed) to announce that we might be the first couple meeting up on the wonderful site. In light of all this I think the right subtitle for my thread should probably be more like this nowadays: How Fuwanovel continuously keeps saving and brightening my life. Thank you for reading this, and thank the wonderful girl that's at my side now - we went through so much, so all this feels like the kind of ending/beginning both of us have always hoped for. I love you with all my heart, Naomi. P.S.: Yep, the crazy autist kids on Fuwanovel are falling in love with each other now. Don't bother commenting if you don't have anything to say on the matter:1 point

This is actually not that surprising, since you two really fit together. Life always has many trials. While I found my answer in isolating myself from other people and getting as close to the world as possible, relying on somebody else to give you strength and meaning is definitely a valid solution, if not an obvious happier conclusion than the path that I took. Keep in mind that you can never become one and what you think is different, so sometime you will enter in conflict. I believe you can surpass that conflict, though. If it were anyone besides you two, I would just ignore what I'm actually thinking about and would be too embarassed to make this cheesy post, just giving a normal "congratulations!". However, while we may not talk together all that much, I believe that I know you two a bit. You both show your feelings right away, are straight-forward, get hurt and happy easily. I don't think you're good at following roads set by others. As far as I know, you both had "normal" chances and options in life, yet you rejected them to forge your own road. I don't think people like you fit very well in society, honestly. Naomi's idealistic nature and Nayleen's honesty and straight-forwardness are both things that the bad parts of our world love to feed on. But I do believe that you both have the perserveranc to go through the road you're paving until the end, no matter what. I'm sure that there are many things waiting for you two in the future, despair, secrecy, pain and unfairness. If there's anything I learned from observing our world, though, is that there are also plenty of good things hidden- both in front of us and in the parts of nature that man hasn't corrupted yet. I live for knowledge and bettering myself- regardless of what's your meaning in life, I pray it grants you happiness- though I'm sure that I don't need to tell you that. Sorry for the cliche- but you should know that these are my most honest feelings. Again, we may not be talking all that much lately, but I consider both of you as precious friends. May you find happiness together. Kaguya.1 point
