  1. Aaaaaand… who else wants that school metaphor to be swiftly kicked in the vulnerables? Anyone? Anyone at all? It can’t just be me.

  2. This will be the location for the XCOM Enemy Within playthrough I'm doing using Fuwanovel members as soldiers. I'm hoping to have video recording capabilities by XCOM 2 but in the mean time this is going to be a simple little screenshot type of deal. I'm not fully committed yet to the way I'm going to format this so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. In the mean time the first few might be done a few different ways til something works. I'm also going to attempt to figure out a means of recording the videos and may or may not edit them after. Soldiers sent on missions are determined by a random generator and actions I take in game are based on personality I've been given for specific units. There will be a few times while playing that I will ask for feedback that will be in the XCOM Recruitment thread. This is essentially an xcom role-play with fuwanovel members as soldiers. For those wondering "it's a good day to die" is song and one of the very few decent things from Starship Troopers 3. If anyone actually wants to hear the song an amv was made with it. Anyway time to begin, Mission 1: Operation Twisted Calm

  3. Pop quiz, hotshot. There’s an untranslated (i.e, romaji) word sitting there in the script you're editing, staring right up at you. It’s been left like that because the TL team figured people ought to know what it means. But will they really? And what are the ramifications if they don’t? You’re running out of time, and patch release day is breathing down your neck. What do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO? In the case of KoiRizo, I ended up relying on a journalistic standard commonly called “the first reference rule.” Here’s how it works. Visual novels for all! Let’s say you’re a journalist writing an article about efforts to improve educational standards in underdeveloped nations. At some point, you might find yourself needing to refer to The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, aka UNESCO. But if just you dropped the acronym “UNESCO” in there, most people wouldn’t know what the bloody hell you were talking about. And if you went with “The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization” every time, your prose would be about as ungainly as me at my prom. So a compromise gets struck: you explain the term on your first reference to it, then use the shorter form thereafter. An example first reference: “The director-general of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), pledged to make visual novels part of the global curriculum by 2025.” Or: “The director-general of UNESCO, the UN agency focused on international education efforts, pledged to make visual novels part of the global curriculum by 2025.” At this point, you’d be free to use “UNESCO” in any future references, since you’ve already explained the term. Everyone wins: the reader understands what you’re talking about, and you only have to use one word instead of eight. Ojousamas for all! The same holds true for visual novels. Let’s say an untranslated term like “ojousama” shows up in your script. if the reader has consumed a fair number of anime/manga/VNs, they might know this describes a young woman of certain means and refinement. It’s a common VN archetype, after all. But a relative newcomer to these genres would have no way of knowing that. They’d be lost if you just started dropping O-bombs out of the blue. So the first thing to do is determine context. Is this a one-off reference? If so, you can probably just fully translate the line and be done with it. (“She takes a limo to school? She must be an ojousama” becomes, “She takes a limo to school? She must come from money.”) In the case of KoiRizo, however, the word “ojousama” is used several dozen times. In fact, a character’s ojousama-ness becomes the focal point of an entire route. It would be a fool’s errand to try and excise it, particularly when there’s no one English word to replace it. So we apply the first reference rule. The initial mention in the translated KoiRizo script reads: “Because she's an ojousama, it'd be a given that she wouldn't worry about matters like money.” It hints at the meaning, but doesn't quite go far enough. So applying our rule, we update it to: “She's a proper young lady of means — an ojousama — so you'd expect her not to worry about things like money.” We’ve now defined the word “ojousama” in context and set the stage for its future use. This will make the rest of the VN flow much more smoothly for both new readers and purists who prefer their tropey terms untranslated. If several hours go by without us using the word again, it’s common courtesy to provide a reminder of its definition, but otherwise we should be good to go. All for gruel! You can even apply the rule in reverse. Here, two characters are about to spend 50 or so lines talking about a certain home-cooked dish. Original translation below: A: “Okay ... What's in the pot?” B: “Rice gruel with egg broth.” We don’t want to spend the next 50 lines saying “Rice gruel with egg broth.” Nor do we want to just say “gruel,” which sounds like something ladled out in a Depression-era orphanage. In fact, this is a steaming bowl of Japanese comfort food deliciousness. So we apply the rule in reverse, and bring back the untranslated term from the original script: A: “Okay ... What's in the pot?” B: “Ojiya — rice end egg porridge.” Now we can safely use the term “ojiya” for the next 50 lines. This ends up working better on several levels: it makes the dish sound more traditionally Japanese, it strikes the right emotional tone, and it helps us shave extra words from our lines. P.S. - If anyone knows where I can get a really good bowl of ojiya in New York City, I’m all ears.

  4. Ah, a sense of community, that's a tricky business. I hope you don't mind if I ramble for a moment or two . I remember talking with quite a few people about group friendships, and feeling sad about people going their separate ways and how you deal with it, how you stay together, and etc etc. The fact of the matter is this - if a group of people only comes together to have fun and talk about hobbies, muck around, share a laugh, play a game or two, then that group of people will always split apart at some point in the future. The bonds forged between these people are too superficial to withstand any tension, or any semi-serious inconvenience. Let me quote a story from Jeremy Clarkson's past: "Back in the eighties I spent pretty well every saturday night with the same group of freind's in a King's Road basement bar in Kennedy's We laughed all the time, we went on stage with the band, we sang, we drank ourselves daft and we knew, with the sure-fire certainty that night will follow day, that we'd be mates forever. Had one of them been accused of gouging the barman's eye out with a lawnmower, I'd have told the police I was dead at the time and that I knew nothing. I would even have taken the heat on his behalf, had push come to shove. Which would have made me feel awfully foolish today because I have no idea where two of those friends are, and, for the life of me, I cannot even remember what the third one was called. How did this happen? Presumably, when I said goodbye for the last time ever, I really did believe I'd be seeing them all again the following weekend. It wasn't like we'd had a row, or that they'd all grown beards or moved to Kathmandu. We just went home and never saw one another again. And this happens all the time. I went throug my address book earlier and there are countless hundred of people, friends, muckers, soul mates and former colleagues who I never see." This indeed happens all the time. You’re friends with somebody when you’re 15, but when you’re 20 you suddenly meet up and find you no longer have anything in common. And the depth of the bond between you two isn’t strong enough to overcome this. Or you suddenly got busy, and you’re too tired to want to do anything, whether you continue to stay in touch will depend on the strength of that bond between the two of you. That is to say, is your friendship real or do you just meet up to whack out a rounds of Persona Arena at the local arcade every day? Because if it's the latter, then the slightest inconvenience or hardship will snap that friendship and chances are you won't even regret it breaking. Similarly, your forum games sometimes involve a bit of work and if bonds aren’t strong enough or incentives aren’t there for people to want to withstand that, then people won't participate. This brings me rather round-aboutly to my point (‘round-aboutly’ is a word… now *shifty eyes*.) You’re an exceptional entertainer, Ren, but you don’t build a sense of community through a mutual sense of having a good time, a community is built upon very real and deep bonds. I understand where you’re coming from though, the Members Lounge was supposed to be a place where members of the community could share real parts of their lives with other members, because this act of sharing is one of the ways people bond and grow close to one another. It was supposed to foster a sense of community before it failed spectacularly and hilariously, so that idea was my one attempt at that. You can’t shove a sense of community down people’s throats, so… not much you can do. This is kinda where I say ‘that’s life’, then I laugh nervously, give you a hearty whack on the shoulder, and offer you a strong drink . Anyway, Fuwa is surviving by being a place where people can come and talk about Visual Novels. So we may not be a close knit community, but it’s a place where people can relax and talk about common interests, or participate in projects, in a non-judgemental and respectful atmosphere. And maybe that’s not so bad. Maybe that's all it needs to be for now. Maybe it will be something more in the future.

  5. You know... yeah this makes sense. This is going to get a bit ranty. I don't know much about the LC, to be honest. I didn't even know it existed until months after it did exist. Every time I heard about it, it sounded like the dumbest possible thing. And it never surprises me with how little it achieved. Or is that achieves? Does it still continue to exist, impacting nothing at all? Who knows! Who cares! Not me. So you know, I'm just gonna hit Tay up on skype, ask him about maybe posting more stuff to the Fuwazette, and if he gives me the okay I'm gonna do it. Fuck bureaucracy, fuck red tape. I'm sure there were/are plenty of well-meaning people on the LC but I'd rather not sit around and talk about doing things while never actually doing them, I'd rather just do them once I decide I want to.

  6. Hey, at least Ryechu saved the FuwaReviews from me, and god damn, the work he has done for it has been great so far. In all honesty, FuwaReviews seems like the one bright spot here to me. The blog TL status updates have been good of course too, but I'd love to see the blog be a bit more active than that (though not with my help.) Here is where I think I get where Ren is coming from, because what he is complaining about is something I am completely guilty of. We have all these people, who are saying they are going to do all these things. Nayleen the front site, me with Reviews, The LC council and whatever the fuck we do, the "Bloody Senators" and their little game, etc. etc. Then, real life happen. In my case, I attempted to tackle FuwaReviews and get it running. But after a long day of work, or school, or housework, or yardwork, the last thing in the world I wanted to do was a bunch of tedious reading, or site work. I wanted to sit around, naked, and play MGSV, or Fallout NV, or anything I could just shut my mind off and do. I know nayleen works, Tay of course is like Dr. House on an island (and still in med school for the record), I'm just so damn tired and stressed all the time. These are real life issues that affect people we love and care about, and affect our futures. Lets say I slack on school work to pump out a review. Now I take a zero on an assignment and cant make it up because its college and its time to be an adult. Alright, well lets make sure school work is done before I do my review. Annnd now its the weekend and by god I work close to 30 hours in 3 days as weekends are damn busy in retail. So now I exhausted and can barely focus. There is no way in hell I could retain the information I need to write my review. And thus the cycle begins again. So what we get is over-promising, and under-delivering. Not out of any malice, or dislike for the site or the direction it is taking, but because, in my case, I will literally get overwhelmed and eventually have a breakdown. Fuwanovel, 98% of the time, is the second to last thing on my mind, the last being the cleanliness of my room currently (its a disaster in here). Sadly for you, you, Fuwanovel is your hobby, and you don't really see things as work. So you put in a ton of effort to make people happy, and provide fun activities. You enjoy that thing. Meanwhile, I about lost my shit in my contest and got overwhelmed and now I feel like shit because I still can't afford to get the prizes to the winners. Instead, that money went to paying my doctor so he could give me strong pain pills when my throat decided to swell up and caused an incredible amount of pain when I was even breathing. Life just happens, and Fuwanovel is not my life. It should not be anyone's life. Because as much as I used to care about Fuwanovel, at the end of the day, its just a website with people who have a shared interest in VNs. I hope you continue to do what you do here Ren, because while I don't really ever take part in the competitions, I do like seeing the effort and creativity put into them. Now to go do Spanish homework, get drunk, and sleep for like 5 hours before doing more house work. I've only slept like... 16 hours over the past 4 nights. Edit: No, fuck Spanish. I'm hungry and all I have had so far today is a glass of milk. Spanish homework can go to hell right now.

  8. As one of the "old" members of the site who has basically gone from being a semi-active lurker (that's an oxymoron, right? I'm pretty sure that's an oxymoron... but, that's what I'm gonna call myself!) to an active poster in the Reviews super-secret forum and PMs mostly in regard to the running of FuwaReviews, I'm sort of in the category of "gave up on the forums, but not the site." I check the site every day for two reasons: One, to see if there are any new posts that may actually be relevant to my interests. Unfortunately, with the history not scrolling back as far as it used to, sometimes I miss a few things here and there, and that sucks, but if I don't see it instantly, I'm very likely going to miss it. And then when I do post on something, then I get sidetracked or forget about it or "promise I'm going to do it later only to not do it" (my most recent example being that I reserved a spot in Ren's thief game, even saying that I was going to apply for it on Skype, only to completely get sidetracked by work), then I don't post responses to anything that may need responding to. It's a commitment I can't make, and commitments I should avoid making, so I tend to stay away from things I don't feel strongly about. What I do do is spend some time in our reviews subforum. Anytime there's a new post in that forum, I'm instantly reading it. I don't care if it's Bats or Palas or Exenorate or whoever (Down<3) updating their status post or if we have hold of a new review key or what have you, I read that, because that's what I like to do on this site. I like doing FuwaReviews - I like the business side of doing all of it. I like working with Flutterz on making sure my reviews are as perfect as they can be. I like trolling Bats when he is drunk and posting Minute Reviews that are a paragraph in length and have more jokes than actual content. I like to get people's opinions on what games we should consider high priority. I do what I enjoy on the site. Unfortunately a lot of that is behind-the-scenes work, which sucks, but it's what I enjoy. I would hope people act with this same mentality. If they aren't having fun, why are they here? When the torrents were removed, we lost that crowd. Oh well, they went to [removed] and now they sit on the forums "hey x game is released where the hell is my ddl of it wtf admin". Then the "Forum Cleanup" policy went into effect, and that sent a lot of people packing because they were worried that they were going to get banned because they post something that may be considered suggestive. That's not exactly the intent, but I understand where they're coming from, and I also understand why the Administrators would want to take that route. We can't please everybody. That's impossible. Somebody is going to show up and ask "WHAR TORRENT", realize we don't have those anymore, and never come back. Somebody is going to post something that crosses the line in a spoiler and not realize we can't do that, get warned, and leave. That's the natural flow of forums. Same with cliques, moderation, and members. Natural flow of forums. Spoiler regarding a similar forum that may trigger people. Don't click if you're easily triggered.

  9. Before Winged Cloud took Sakura Swim Club off SteamSpy, it had around 5k sales. You know many views my Sakura Swim Club uncensored patch install guide has? About 8k views. I have no way of telling how many of those people bought the game, but certainly that calls your assumption into question. Keep in mind that pirates could just pirate the adult version; they wouldn't need an uncensor patch. Also, it's worth mentioning that Winged Cloud has removed most of the Sakura series from SteamSpy. Looks like they found the clear downward trend in sales embarrassing, as they left only their best-selling games up on there. I wouldn't expect any less from a group that censors negative attention on their Steam forums and shamelessly promotes their donation page (on a forum for a game they're already overcharging for). No matter how I look at it Winged Cloud is basically scum. It's crystal clear that all they've ever been interested in is maximizing profits. They don't give a damn about their fans. You'll notice that they make no public statements at all outside of their locked Patreon areas. They couldn't even be bothered to explain how to use their uncensor patch, and they only created one to begin with to drive traffic to their donation page.

  10. It never really got up and running. Tay was, is, will be in the near or far away future, exploring possible power structures for when he leaves the site. Ignore the LC and just hit up Tay if you want something done. He loves both work and people flooding his various inboxes with queries, it gives him fuzzies and makes him feel appreciated. That day he had a thousand messages in his inbox he literally shed tears of joy.

    Without Within 2

Hello everyone! Hope you are doing awesome. Earlier this month, I flew to Melbourne for a week and recorded a bunch of footage for Without Within 2. I also learned some new things about the city, and I look forward to dropping in those details where appropriate. Really hope I will be able to share my love for new places with everyone through this game. I wanted to quickly show off some of the photos I took while I was in Melbourne: According to my phone, I walked 50km in a three day span during my time in Melbourne. I hope you will enjoy the game as well as the optional footage. Thank you friends !

  12. Yeah, the colorlessness, at least to me, was amusing. Didn't bother me at all. Even if Fuwa isn't the most closely knit community, I really don't think it needs to be. In fact, I would argue the inevitability of the breaking down of community as a website grows larger. Fuwa really is like an open coffee shop. People come and go, and only a few really prominent members know each other. It is a place for fleeting meetings and greetings, where maybe, just maybe, you cause someone to stick around and become a regular. We are all bound by a common interest, but that doesn't mean we are bound by obligation to each other. As for me? When I first saw this thread and read through it, my honest first impression of it was "here we go again". In the time I've been here, 6 months, I've seen at least 3 of these types of threads about the community dying. There are probably a dozen more I missed too.

  15. Or maybe the people that do bring it up are, obviously, people who care about those things and are therefore much more informed than the average buyer? There's no need to defend every single small point about Sekai Project. Using that kind of rhetorical nonsense is detrimental to your main point. Same goes with using all that PR vocab and "you don't know what you're talking about", your point is so hidden in layers of it that I don't even get what you're trying to say in your other statements. Say things clearly if you want someone to hear them.

  17. We can't force anyone to do anything they don't want to. And if anyone thinks they can do something that would bring people together then it wouldn't hurt to do it. Having an admin that isn't as busy as Tay would be nice to just have some communication between staff and users. I don't really see the need to force people to participate in activities though, no one needs to take 10 minutes of their time to do anything. If people want to take 10 minutes if their time it should be because they want to. It kind of is starting to become exaggerated at this point.

  18. I think the whole fuwanovel being in decline thing is being pretty exaggerated. In my eyes, it's not much different from how it has been over the last ~17 months I've been around. But I've also never really cared about the forums games, streams, podcasts, etc. I have a pretty one-track mind when it comes to this site. I will say that I want to post more content to the main fuwanovel blog. I don't 100% know what I would be posting but I think some more front-page content would generate more traffic that could eventually bleed over to the forums. Maybe to start with something simple like basic news posts when fan patches and new VNs are released. I mean, it's better than nothing, right? I look at the front page and see nothing but our weekly VNTS posts and get a little depressed.

  19. See how much activity this thread is getting? Have threads (discussion/sharing, etc.) which topics people feel interest towards reading or adding their genuine or candid thought to. I'm happy to interact with members of the community, the opportunity just needs to be made more enticing/available/convenient.

  20. And I came here expecting a circlejerk thread. Oh how wrong I was. This doesn't seem to be too different from any other forum. People are just going around and doing their own thing like always. People leave and people come like anywhere else, they have their own lives to live so it's expected. We don't always need a PM cult or contests or anything like that. This just a place to chill and talk about VN's and anime and shit like that. We don't always need to be united as a community, just be talking about VN's and being friendly to each other we already accomplish what we want to as a community. If people don't want to participate in events or contests then they won't, that's just the way it goes. Though I guess I understand your frustration on how the community seems to be dividing into smaller groups (Love Live, that PM cult thing etc.) As someone who doesn't bode well with talking to people (I have pretty bad social anxiety) it does make it really hard to feel active in the community since everyone is in their own little circle. I guess I don't really have a solution to that though since it's a lot of other peoples individual choices that makes this happen. Like I could sit down and brainstorm some ideas for the hell of it but my presence in the community is pretty small so I doubt it'd do anything.

    XCOM Recruitment

Just so you know any personalities you give will be taken and will affect how I use your character. Also the first battle will be up shortly as well and the units that I've created are at the bottom of this post for those interested. The units created thus far are the only ones I was able to do following the given information as accurately as I could but even then some details might be a bit off so let me know if that is the case. It does seem brown hair is kinda hard to see. If you don't care about the country for the unit or if you do care about the country but not the gender let me know as I can create your unit easier then. I'm also not going to be taking units on a given mission based on whether I think they can succeed but rather based on random chance. I'm using a random.org to determine who goes on a mission and who doesn't. I have done the first mission which will be posted in a separate thread so expect that shortly. (keeping recruitment separate to make it easier to find (since I'll likely be doing the same thing with XCOM 2). I will be posting what your characters looks like and their stats (some of them are hilariously bad) in game below if there is anything you would like to change that is possible let me know. InvictusCobra: Siegfried Paladin Funyarinpa: Cook Funyarinpa Shikomizue: Grunt Shikomizue Tiagofvarela: Miles Edgeworth RedPanda: Jack Ripper I will be making more characters based on other volunteers in this thread once their flag or gender becomes available...if you do not care about either of those things I can make your character straight away. Otherwise I can wait until they become available.

Your health is the most important thing you have, and If you die not only will it sadden us immensely... but I’ll take it upon myself to write your Eulogy. And I know everybody keeps telling me ‘NO!!!!!’ with much arm flapping but honestly you guys won’t be in any condition to protest, in fact I’ve already got Wink’s written and stored safely in a drawer *heh*.

If there were any truth to that adage ‘what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger’, you’d be the embodiment of all things Hulk, and would be wandering around Canada-land (or wherever you live, Canada’s close enough ) hulk-smashing everything around you. And you'd be doing it with a bucket of bourbon in one hand, and an incomplete Fuwa-review in the other. And every so often you'd roar 'Sakuraaaaaa' :3

It would be awesome if we could have semi-regular content up for VN-lovers to enjoy! I'm still setting the Fuwanovel channel up, but for those who are interested in some immediate gratification, I am about to begin streaming Katawa Shoujo on Twitch.tv! 28. Um, did you completely forget about Clannad and Steins;Gate? Both had fantranslations out for quite awhile before someone offically localized them. There is also that vid on the kickstarter (around the 5:16-5:33 mark to be exact) that seems to hint that if the kickstarter does well they will work to release other MuvLuv titles to the west. It's kinda like what alicesoft is doing with mangagamer, except age chose their biggest title and not a relatively unkown vn that didn't even sell all that well in Japan.

  29. Yup. I also made quick games like that, and nobody joined. So fuck Fuwanovel. Thanks for helping me realize that. Don't get me wrong, I love (<3) everyone here, but fuck the site. Maybe people who left realized this far before I did.

  30. Thank god I'm in for fun and not free. It just makes me feel morally superior while Ren is here blowing a fuse. Since I like fun I try to participate in every event which I feel qualified or have time to. As for the Nayleen incident, that was entirely his fault. Don't blame the community, blame him. He changed the colours because of your game (as it gave him the idea to), of course people would think it was your fault. As for changing the site's theme, it might be considerably different if there's actually an announcement explaining the change as opposed to the sudden colour blindness everyone suffered last time. I distinctly remember how the Christmas avatar activity went. Even if people can't be bothered to Photoshop/learn how to make hats themselves, since there were members doing it for them, a good deal of the forums adhered.

  31. 1. You remembered me, that's my boy. <3 2. I'll agree with this point. The murder mystery and battle of the guilds were really well-crafted I think, can't say for sure since I didn't took part in them, but the mystery games were pretty poorly done. 3. I feel like the topics discussed are usually pretty good, people do share their thoughts about what the next one should be, don't they? At least they used to if I remember correctly. 4. To be honest, together with the new games not being as well done as the others, I think some people might have gotten tired of waiting for the prizes they won. I mean, yeah, it's not exactly cheap to ship all that stuff and all that, but when they take forever to come, people just lose interest. When you participate on a game with no prize, you do it because you want to have some fun, but when there's a prize, you're expecting to receive it if you win. I don't really mind the prizes myself, but I don't even remember which ones I've won so far since I only got updated about the shipping status once in the past - as in you asking for my address and saying it would take some time before you could ship stuff. This is not really the matter at hand, but this is my honest feedback regarding your activities. I don't have anything else I want to add to the main discussion, sorry for the off-topic.

  32. If Sekai Project is truly attempting to alter the perception common rabble has of a "Visual Novel", then hiding Dempasoft as much as they can is the best approach in the long run. On the other hand, when their best selling titles are the Sakura Series that doesn't do the image any favours...

  33. Because there are better podcasts jk One thing I would like to point out is that, while you're not the only one who does stuff on the forum, you're probably the only one who does the kind of things you do. They are at the end, luxuries. Not all forums have giveaways or forum games or community podcasts, and you happen to be the only one here, aside from that one time Rose did one, who does it. You seem to be expecting other people to start doing these activities or for them to renew their interest in your new ones. Alright, time for a bit of brutal honesty: They're not as good. Your old activities had more interaction for us, mainly the games. I don't think most people here would prefer watching you dance over playing the games you created, like the card game thing or the riddles thing. A bit more organization of the games would also be nice, I recall the other team not making a move and you not doing anything about it for like weeks until both sides got bored. Maybe brain storm new ideas and make a poll to see which one people want more? How about asking people what podcast topic they would prefer to talk about? But if you chat on the TS all day and then decide to do a fitness training stream out of the blue, don't expect staggering results. There's a lot you can do Ren. You have great potential, and while people might be lazy and guilty, you have to realize you can be just as lazy and guilty. I don't mean to hurt you, but by this point I don't think anything but brutal truth can make a difference. Peace out man.

  34. Yeah, KS works funny like that. There's usually hundreds of thousands of dollars in people waiting to pledge...once it reaches it's goal or a certain stretch goal. It's ironic because if these same people just...pledged, the goal or stretch goal would be hit instantly. It's just human nature, even though you lose nothing if a KS fails...and you can cancel your pledge at any time before the KS ends...and the money isn't taken out right away anyways...

  35. I'm pretty sure there's a fair bit of life yet. You have the typical final 72 hour push, plus I've seen people on Reddit say that they're waiting to see the Vita stretch goal unlocked before they pledge in. I personally am planning on upping my pledge when we get close to the end once I've got a more concrete grasp on how much cash I'm going to have available. Actually, I would have pledged more already, but I had to spend $500 to replace my air conditioner, so I'm down from where I was expecting to be right now.

  36. Says the stream advertising machine who sits on teamspeak all day and only shows up for that and some random games- you are not fuwanovel, Ren. Meh. I'm still moderating, you know. It's just that there's nothing to moderate currently. I am spending less time in the site, but I still check it 20+ times a day and whenever there's a report or discussion related to moderation going on I do jump on it. I do have my pm group, yeah. I post there because it has almost everyone I like + it's a free talk thingy, so I can just talk about what I'm currently hyping. Easier than making a new thread, will get more views than if I try to revive an old one. This account existed for the sake of roleplaying in the past, and while I still do it sometimes, I don't have the drive to anymore, which makes posting weird. What exactly you want from me other than moderation? I can't be at the site 24/7 to do it. I can't suddenly think of an awesome idea that'll make the site super active. All I can is make the same stuff I did in the past- bad daibanchou mods and virtual trading cards of our members. That and updating my list, which I do whenever good enough game is translated. The trading cards and the mod were pretty popular (no need to mention my list), so so tell me if you have any interest in it, anyone. Also, I've been looking for a hacker for a project of a larger scale, but I couldn't find anyone so /rip.

  37. You clearly haven't seen this then. Fetishes featured in H-scenes with the character of Haruka by frequency https://twitter.com/Aru_Naru/status/645103526788509696 What more could you want?

  40. I say the reality is that people are focusing into groups. This is especially true for anyone who comes to FSG (the Fuwa Skype Group), where you then go to smaller groups for specific games and activities. The Hearthstone group over there is probably more active than this entire forum. And I'm not really sure if that's a bad thing of a good thing. Why talk on the forum when I can talk on Skype with the same people for direct replies? If I feel like talking about VNs, I talk to the main group, if I feel like singing I go to the Karaoke group, and if I feel like listening to people talk Japanese for some reason I go to the Japanese group. This means the forums ends up kinda ded, but I don't think there's anything to do about it. People want convenience, and if the most convenient way for me to talk is on Skype or the TS or whatever small chat group you belong to, then that's that.

  41. Some of these are Japanese doujin VNs no one has ever heard of (Yume no Sono, Darekoi, Orchard). Highway Blossoms is another OELVN from the creators of the still in-development Human Reignition Project. Interestingly, Japanese High School Life is being made by Sekai Project themselves. They've had making their own VN listed as a goal in their list of long-term goals for a while now but I wasn't sure when they were going to actually go through with it. Wagamama High Spec is probably the VN most fuwanovel members would be most interested in. It's an 18+ high school moege created by an actual eroge company, which is not the kind of announcement you expect to see from SP. It looks kind of average, as do their previous games, so I'm not sure what to really think of it. https://vndb.org/v17823 edit: One of the scenario writers on staff for Wagamama was responsible for ChuSinGura, so there's that.

  42. Aka the tlwiki crew who always has the same opinions on each and everything out there. I think it'll be fine in the end. Ixrec has improved and the TL for the muv luv series in general is definitely not bad, but can use improvements. Also pledged $300 for now, but missed out on the $800 C tier. Nearly at 400k now.

  44. This question has no answer, since it's not necessary to "show" anything at all to tell a story. But then you don't have a visual novel, you have a novel. Unless you're making the argument that even novels with descriptions of sex are automatically porn just for acknowledging that sex exists. To illustrate in a different way how extreme that opinion would be, think about how much of the average person's daily life involves sex. The human race historically couldn't have existed without it. That makes it pretty important. Now think about how much of our lives we spend consuming food or readying food for consumption. Many visual novels portray scenes based around eating or cooking because those are natural and integral parts of every day life. Is every visual novel food scene just "food porn" and unnecessary to storytelling? For some reason many of us classify sex as something extraneous, unnecessary and distasteful that should be kept behind closed doors, even though there are only a few other things in our lives that are as important and natural. I find that distinction arbitrary.

  45. While it makes me cringe too, I'm pretty sure they're built to err... accommodate pretty big things such as babies.

  46. Let me know how that's working out for you. I think I see a pattern here--and it's not visual novels.
