Fuwanovel Confessions
Mr Poltroon and 6 others reacted to Kenshin_sama for a topic
Confession: I decided to come back a little earlier than planned. Turns out taking a break from Fuwa hasn't given me what I hoped it would. Considering how the number of people irl I can relate with, I started feeling a little bit lonely. I have managed to reconnect with a few people on FB, but they're mostly gamers that I met online. So I'm just about doing the same thing there as I was here, but with even fewer people. My irl friends have either moved away or won't respond to my messages. Kinda blows. So yep, I'm back! I have at least made a little bit of progress, in that I have a few job applications in and I'm starting to sleep a little better. Turns out it's actually a lot easier to sleep when you wake up before sunrise. I started drinking decaf sleeping coffee too (it works really well). But in spite of all my efforts to de-stress myself, I still can't seem to get it together. My psychologist decided that I need to start getting therapy treatment for my depression and anxiety issues, so hopefully that helps to get things going along. I feel at home coming back here. It just felt like something was missing from my life and I couldn't feel right no matter what I tried. That said, it does feel a little awkward not having Gravity Green, but I'm sure I'll get over that... Maybe. Either way, it's good to be back. Just in time to wish Flutterz a happy birthday too! Holy crap, has it really been a year already? I remember doing this for your last one. o.o7 points -
Visual Novel Stream Project [Poll]
kyrt and 5 others reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Hey everyone, I wanted to make this thread to discuss a little project I was hoping to start working on before the end of the year and going into 2016. If you'd like to read a little bit about what I want to accomplish, feel free to read on, otherwise skip right ahead to the "Details" section listed below. Also, be sure to vote in the poll when it is mentioned later on during this post. Thanks! The Goal of the Project: I think it's in my blood to entertain others. When I decided to step away from Fuwanovel, I started feeling empty because I wasn't doing something I enjoyed for the past year. I sort of want to start doing that again. The goal of this project is pretty straight forward - I want to promote the visual novel community for both members and fans of the genre while at the same time providing people with some entertaining live streams. Whether you enjoy the translated, OEL, or Japanese visual novel scene, I hope that this project will give you with some sort of enjoyment and ultimately be worth your time. Breakdown of Streaming: Visual Novel Live Streams (English novels) - I have streamed a lot of visual novels in the past and I wanted to continue doing that. I want to stream both OELVNs and translated novels on my Hitbox channel. After each session, I will upload previously recorded videos to my Google Drive and/or YouTube channel (the latter option being used if there isn't any copyright issues) for everyone to view. Visual Novel Live Streams (Japanese novels) - While I don't think finding translators who are willing to work with me on live sessions will be possible like it was last year (i.e. = Mephisto and Cocoro@Function!), I do think it is possible to provide visual novel fans with short, translated material from Japanese games that help give them an idea of what it's all about. In other words, I want to live stream visual novel prologues where information about the world and basic character introductions are presented. I care a lot about the translated VN scene for members who are unable to read Japanese, but I also think it's important to appreciate the market as a whole even if you don't have interest in learning the actual language. Now I am not saying that by doing these short prologue patches people will automatically want to learn Japanese as a result, but some things I think it can help do for the community is getting them to appreciate more of the VN genre. This in turn may open both English and Japanese readers up to different games that normally aren't suited for their tastes. Who knows? You might finally find enjoyment in that moege you have hated your entire life. TLDR: I want to provide English readers with partially translated material during my streams for visual novels that aren't available in English. These translations will consist of VN prologues, where characters and the basic setting are introduced. By doing this, I hope to expand people's interest in the visual novel market and let people appreciate the entire genre as a whole rather than being limited to translated material. Breakdown of Reviews: Visual Novel Podcast Reviews - In addition to live streaming visual novels, I also wanted to host live stream podcast episodes that review visual novels I or others have played. While I will normally do these "video style" reviews alone for those of you who are interested in watching them, I am also willing to talk about games with other people who are interested. To give you an example of this, Nosebleed and I recently reviewed Sakura Swim Club after playing through it via live stream. I had a lot of fun doing this, and we actually had a lot of members show up. Overall, it was a rewarding experience and I thought it might be interesting to continue doing these sorts of reviews in case anyone wants to join me or discuss a game themselves. I have uploaded this episode to my Mixcloud account and Google Drive, both of which are linked below for your listening/downloading pleasure. Take a listen and let me know what you think. Mixcloud Link: https://www.mixcloud.com/OriginalRen/live-stream-podcast-reviews-episode-01-sakura-swim-club Google Drive Link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ivNNDDfsj5T3BkZFZfTWs4LUU Fuwanovel Reviews - It seems that people enjoyed (thought not necessarily agreed with) my Hoshizora no Memoria review. Would people want me to write more reviews for the Fuwanovel team? I'm not really satisfied with my writing style, but if people enjoy it, I would love to continue doing it. Details: Here are all of the details about what you as members and community fans can do for each section in the project. Please note that while I love taking suggestions, it does not mean I will be able to fulfill all of them right away. If you are interested in seeing me live stream translated visual novels... Provide me (in this thread or via PM) with visual novels which are translated that you want me to play. If you are interested in joining me for a live stream session of said game, please also let me know. Even if you aren't the person who suggests a certain game, feel free to join me in Skype or TeamSpeak at any time during my streaming dates. After each session I will upload the recordings to my Google Drive and/or YouTube channel for you to view in case you can't attend a stream. Since I enjoy speaking when I play my games, please let me know if you'd like me to include separate videos that do not contain my voice and instead auto-run the content I streamed previously. I have provided a poll in this thread for that exact purpose. Finally, is there a game you'd like me to play or a patch you'd like me to stream and review? I love getting early patches and hyping your translation project's game for you (including OELVNs), so let me know. I am currently doing this for Hinata's route in Noble Works and also want to work on playing and/or finishing these games in the future: Lucid9Violet HillWithout WithinCursed SightIf you are interested in seeing me live stream Japanese visual novel prologue patches... Let me know if you are willing to translate a few lines of a game and I can easily stream it for you. Clephas and another member did this with me a long time ago for game's they chose, though we never got around to actually streaming it due to computer issues. Now that I have much better hardware, I am definitely looking forward to trying this out if anyone is still interested. Send me a PM and I can provide you with more details. Essentially speaking, all you would be doing is translating enough lines of the game that you feel is a good cutoff point for viewers. Translating character introductions and simple plot elements before the opening video is generally a good estimate when it comes to requirements, though this isn't always the case. At the end of the day, the call is up to you. As always, I will upload previously recorded sessions to my Google Drive and/or YouTube channel. If you are interested in the visual novel podcast reviews... Let me know if there's a game you'd like to review by yourself or with other people. Also, if you want to be featured on an episode with me after playing a game, let me know as well. I would be more than willing to participate in an episode. Final Thoughts: To put things simply, I want to do a lot more entertaining on the visual novel front. I am always looking for feedback and would appreciate any thoughts or comments on this little project of mine. In addition, if there is anything you'd like me to do for you when it comes to live streaming or promoting projects you are working on, please let me know as well. With that, thanks for taking the time to read this long post. See you around.6 points -
It was inevitable that the industry would suffer, as all the otaku industries suffered after reaching saturation. Just judging from my own experiences, base quality is going to fall more and more over the next few years, as companies desperate to make a few extra pennies cut corners where they shouldn't, thus driving more potential consumers away. Unlike anime, since most VNs have ero-content, there is less strategic depth in terms of a fanbase to depend on if more and more fans are driven away by poor works by previously good companies. Manga and anime both suffered similar problems after reaching their saturation points, though they've now more or less settled down into a regular up and down 'bumpy road' kind of industry rather than the kind of cliff we might see with VNs. Those of you who have been otakus long enough or who have a wider experience of more material will have noticed that while technology's advance has resulted in some base improvement in visual aspects, the basic quality of anime in general has actually fallen drastically in the last fifteen years or so, looking at it from a wider perspective. We are seeing a similar trend with VNs, with occasional truly good VNs interspersed with dozens of lower-quality works intended to make a quick buck by appealing to the 'wide and shallow' part of the fanbase (moe and nuki addicts) rather than entertain or stimulate (incidentally, truly good moege/charage still get produced... but they are proportionately lower in number). I'll be blunt, there hasn't been a significant work out of Elf since Biniku, which was critically acclaimed regardless of genre preferences, despite the difficulties a lot of people have with NTR. It was inevitable that Elf would have gone under, even without the current saturation of the market. Generally speaking, all of the 'otaku mediums' have had their golden ages, followed by an 'age of stagnation and saturation'. I'm curious to see whether VNs will actually survive their own trials... especially considering the social trends in Japan (anyone who plays eroge will have noticed the significant drop in loli-content, unless they are blind as a bat... and that is just the tip of the iceberg, speaking from the perspective of someone who plays sixty or more a year). Anime is currently in one of its ages of stagnation (similar to the eighties and early nineties, when just about everything was either giant robo/sentai rangers or felt like it was written by someone in a drug-induced haze). It produces maybe two or three series a year worthy of note, with the rest falling somewhere between horrible and decent. I honestly don't follow manga anymore, so I can't form a good opinion on it. Though, speaking like a doomsayer gets old, fast. I honestly think that VNs will survive... but the industry will probably be forced to alter radically in order to survive. My personal prediction is that there will be at least some movement away from extreme ero, isolating a few companies and the doujin circles that will continue to produce it for their audiences. Due to the current saturation of that genre, we are also likely to see a fall in the number of moe-moe releases (I'm already seeing this) with only the most visually polished selling well enough to keep their companies afloat. Chuunige, whose care fanbase is pretty... fanatical (lol) probably won't change that much in terms of sales or profitability. Some will leave, some will get interested, and the niche will remain more or less as it is... a high cost, potentially high return niche genre that will only turn a profit if people don't cut corners. Extreme nukige companies will continue to turn a decent profit... and find themselves backed into a corner, legally and socially. We'll probably see at least a small explosion of non-ero VNs that might or might not turn a profit (its about a 50-50 chance, depending on how they market them). The non-ero market over here will continue to grow due to Steam's influence. In exchange, we'll probably see at least some of the 'great classics' stripped of their ero by various localization companies for Steam releases. Companies that don't adapt well to changing times will probably go under (I honestly don't see JastUSA lasting more than another half-decade, unless they learn to actually market their stuff rather than just release it in an off-handed manner... they remind me of Working Designs, in a bad way). For OELVNs... I can't make a solid prediction, but since the current trends seem to still tend toward less than impressive imitations of Japanese themes and the occasional third-rate attempts at something unique, I can't see the market there standing fully on its own for some time. Edit: I'm going to say this outright. No Japanese industry is ever going to be considered flexible. They stagnate and lose momentum, as the natural preference of Japanese society is for stasis, rather than change. Japanese businessmen don't want endless growth, they want stable revenues. This is reflected in the way game companies tend to manage their development (think Konami and the revelations about its internal affairs recently). Total collapses in any profit-generating industry in Japan are unheard of, but stagnation of profits is almost a given, as more people with the same ideas try to do the same thing. Trends that would take a month here will frequently take two or three years there, simply because no one is interested in actively changing the status quo. Edit2: Ironically, people with tastes similar to mine are more likely to benefit from the ero-stripping than the moe-moe fans (proportionately anyway), since it is easier to strip a more story-focused VN of its ero without harming the story than to do so with any sort of moege.4 points

Player Mentors Program - Official re-launch!
Onodera Punpun and 2 others reacted to Rose for a topic
Hey guys, it's been a while since we mentioned it but we're finally re-launching the Player Mentors Program! Our goal here is to connect newcomers to experienced players who can help you find games you might enjoy, chat about the ones you've read so far, and above all else: be a friend to you. The program is open to both experienced players and newcomers, but I'd like to say something to the later group. To you who's new to VNs and has absolutely no clue about what to read next or has no one to talk about VNs with, we're here for you. We have all been in your shoes at some point, everyone started out as clueless as you are right now, and this project is aimed to make this road easier for you. Maybe you're too shy to make a thread asking something, or maybe you're afraid of your doubt being "dumb" and people trolling you, and that's absolutely normal. Your interaction with your mentor will always happen privately, there'll be no one reading your talks aside from the two of you. Interested? Contact me. I'm the person responsible for coordinating the program, the bridge between you, Tay, and the mentors. You can either send me an e-mail or PM me here on the forums. Having started college a few months ago, I still find myself looking back on high school in a very retrospective light. Sometimes I look back with nostalgia on the fun I had with my friends and the joys of my old life, but other times (including most recently) I look back on the things I regret. Particularly I regret my complete inaction in pursuing romantic relations. If my High School experience were like a VN, I got (and indeed I chose) the no girl bad ending. In fact, the no girl ending in Yume Miru Kusuri basically summarizes my experience. The fact that I can identify with the main protagonist from YMK (Kouhei Kagami) as much as I can is almost scary. Quotes from that ending like "I just couldn't be bothered. There have been a number of chances. And when I think about it, they all had to do with girls. I kept my distance from them, because of their peculiarities. I was concerned that I might get caught up in something bothersome. And that's why I refrained from getting involved with any of them." (Not using a spoiler tag since this quote doesn't really spoil anything from the VN) What's particularly striking about this is that much like that ending, I had options. Not just options, but multiple opportunities that I repeatedly declined. There were girls that I knew were interested in me, and I intentionally did nothing about it. At the time I dismissed them because I didn't think we would match well. But that sounds a bit too much like "I kept my distance from them, because of their peculiarities." And above all, much like a bad ending, I feel this lingering hopelessness. I realize that I haven't really changed much from high school. Which makes me fear Kouhei's concluding words in that bad ending even more, "I'm sure that, in reality... I never really wanted it to change..." In all honestly, I think things will be fine for me (in the future); I'm just in a particularly gloomy mood right now which is influencing my thoughts and writing. But yeah, how about you guys? If your high school experience were a visual novel, what ending did you get? (I'm really curious if anybody got something resembling the childhood friend ending.)2 points

I don't usually like to get personal on the site because I feel like the internet is not a hug box, but this is something I figured I'd get someone else's input about and maybe discover interesting information that could help me out in dealing with my sister, and potentially someone else's situation. Some context of my situation: I have a 10 year old sister who's just started her first year in middle school back in September. During elementary school she was pretty cheerful and seemed to have fun quite often when she came home; she did her homework with either my parents or me, and everything went decently smoothly for those 4 years. But now that she's in middle school it seems like things have started to take a toll on her. The amount of work obviously increased in comparison to what she had to do in elementary school and the academic pressure is something she clearly feels threatened by and I myself struggle to help her with her homework because she simply can not retain the information no matter how much I try to explain it, it's basically like she's alien to it. On top of that, my parents' work schedule basically makes it so that my sister is generally at home alone with me or at my grandmother's house. All this sorta resulted in her feeling sorta depressed, perhaps melancholic would be the best term. Her apetite has been decreasing, although it was never really great to begin with and she's began to get self conscious about her weight because of it, even though her BMI is absolutely normal for her age. Because of all this, my mother in particular has asked me to help my sister feel better by doing stuff with her and helping her out when she needs it. Seems pretty straightforward, I know, but here's the kicker: I am absolutely terrible with kids. I don't mean that as a way to say I don't like kids, just that I don't know how to deal with them at all, so my attitude towards children in general is usually one of indifference, this includes, to a certain degree, my sister as well. I never thought much of it, just because I don't really know what to do in these situations, but my mother has told me before that my sister really wants to spend time with me and feels like I don't like her very much because I kinda ignore her. I guess it's obvious to see why she'd think that, and I don't have any excuse for it, but it's really not that I don't like her, I just never managed to find a good way to socialize with her, so we don't really do much together. In general, I am not a person who enjoys getting too touchy with other people. This includes my family. I don't like hugging and kissing whenever it's not necessary, it doesn't feel natural to me and I really shy away from displays of affection between my family as much as possible. I never really tell anyone in my family I "like" them verbally either, it just gives me this inpending sense of embarrassment I can not shake off. But, once again, it's not like I hate anyone in my family, I'm just not into expressing affection so openly like that, it really makes me uncomfortable. And because I am this way, my attitude towards my sister over the course of her upgringing was never a really affectionate one as some other siblings might have had. In my earlier years I was quite apathetic towards her as well because I just felt super estranged to her, but I'm not really like that anymore. There were other factors like our 10 year age gap which essentially made me unable to have stuff to talk about with her or play with her where we both could have fun doing it. I hope the problem has become somewhat clearer now. I want to do something for my sister, but I'm terrible when it comes to all the touchy affection stuff (and to make matters worse, my sister is the complete opposite) so I was just hoping there would be something where I could, at the very least, get along with my sister so she doesn't feel as lonely. I was hoping I could find some common interest, now that she's in middle school, where we can both partake in it and have fun rather than me trying to suddenly get all affectionate with her (just the thought of that latter option gives me the shivers), just as a way to at least create a starting point to where we can have a more normal sibling relationship rather than such a distant one. My sister is very straightforward with her intentions when it comes to me, she's even left me messages in my room after cleaning it for me while I'm in college saying how she loves me and stuff, which I really appreciate and find sweet, but I'm terrible at expressing the gratitude back and I usually just muster a "thank you for [...]". My mother gets really mad because she expects me to hug her and/or kiss her and thank her, but I could never even do that with a friend to begin with, it's just not me, but I understand that at the same time not showing any form of affection or at least attention/care is not ideal either, so that's why I've come to the conclusion that I should really do something about it. And before someone brings it up, yes I know this is the age of puberty, I'm not at all discarding the possibility of this being "just a phase" and I'm sure she'll get over it once she's more used to the new environment she's in, but that's not really what I'm trying to solve here, I just kind of want to mend our relationship a bit so hopefully my sister knows I'm not just some stranger around the house and that if she's having problems she can come to me as well, and hopefully this will ease her life a bit. It was a long rant, sorry for getting so personal about my life, but I figured this would really paint the picture pretty clearly. So Fuwans, how do you bond with your siblings?2 points

Hanachirasu is a revenge story developed by Nitro+, featuring many dark themes and amoral characters. Whilst it was made in 2005, it has withstood the test of time in all aspects and is an excellent, albeit short read. Read the review here! http://www.damninteresting.com/the-baader-meinhof-phenomenon/ God fucking damn it Flutterz. I just had a talk about this phenomenon with friends yesterday. Why do you do this to me. I also just did a cube in MTG with my friend. We had 15 minutes to sort the cards and build a deck. I played White/Green, and he did Black/Blue/Green. I crushed him 4/1. I feel like my basic deck strategy of lots of low cost minions and fewer high cost stuff worked extremely well. It seemed like 70% of the cards he played were spells. Confession: Pacifism ruined him in 3 of those games. Like, utterly ruined him.2 points -
To be honest with you, those are my thoughts as well. Also, due to the nature of my school, most people had too much work to do to focus on relationships, including myself. There wasn't really a dating culture in my school, and there were only a handful of couples in total. The only time during high school where I actually would have had time for a relationship was during my last semester of senior year. Everything before that I was up to my neck in work (and so were most other people). That's what's interesting about comparing life to a VN. Unlike a VN where things completely end, and depending on that ending it is either good or bad. In life, phases end, but the whole thing still continues. And indeed, the way certain phases of your life end aren't necessarily bad or good, they just ended. While in a VN I would have gotten the 'bad ending', because my romantic life was non existent. From a non VN perspective, things overall went quite well. I made good friends and got into the college of my choice. 1) Narrate this shit, would read 2) Very happy for you, hope things turned out fine I'm in complete agreement. I would read that as well. Also, congrats.2 points

If your High School experience were a VN, what ending did you get?
FinalChaos and one other reacted to Eclipsed for a topic
I gave some girl a bad ending in middle skoo . Total dickbag, ik Entered a couple routes that led to bad ends in early highskoo so lets not talk about that Late high skoo began really crushing on this girl that i knew since middle skoo but didnt really talk to much until then cuz idk, but we became super close bffs ez For some goddamn reason everybody knew i liked her even though i didnt tell anybody, gg im obvious i guess, dunno if she herself knew We went to prom together, annnnd nothing happened after that cuz i went the 'dont reveal true feelings' route, ikr whatta l0ser And cuz of different colleges we dont see each other much anymore 'til break when the whole highskoo crew get together for funtimes and Facebook photo tagging spam bonanza. Over at my college there's a gal I got to become rather acquainted with, and apparently the situation is "knew her since highskoo but didnt talk to until now" as well ._. She's a bit of an oddball, but thats what makes her charming but then i got into VNs, ggez, i got my 2D pink waifus, errbody else can go to Helsdfdsakfkjfkdj Edit: speaking of VNs, people have noticed that I became... more perverted(?) over the past year, i used to have a nice guy Naoe Riki bland goody two shoes rep, now I'm like Kotarou hitting-on-Kotori tier level, and so ppl are like "what happened to you?!" one day, ill tell them: i played neko para2 points -
I had a similar problem, a long time ago. It's a problem that comes up on various VNs that has to do with the save folder being broken when made on a different computer, since the downloads usually come with the save folders pre-made. I don't know the exact specificities of the problem, but one solution is to delete the save folder then re-open the game. It should re-make the folder automatically. Be sure you move your main save outside the folder when you delete it though, because any saves inside of it will probably be lost. I'm unsure if it'll end up retaining completed CGs, but once the save folder is re-made it should fix the issue. You might end up having to re-play it from the start depending on how it turns out. I haven't done much testing with the problem on my part.1 point

The lack of Himouto Umaru-chan in this thread bothers me. If you really like Gintama, try SKET Dance which follows pretty much the same format as Gintama, except it's a highschool setting. It even has a crossover episode with Gintama because the voice actors for both shows are the same. Binbougami Ga! is my favorite manga of all time and the anime counterpart makes me crack up every time as well. Mitsudomoe might me something to look into as well since the whole thing is just crazy kids doing crazy things.Although it's very hit and miss, I found Yuru Yuri super entertaining so if you don't mind cute girls being all touchy with each other, this might be for you. Lastly, a hidden gem I never forget, Hyakko. Everything else noteworthy that I can remember has already been mentioned above but I'd definitely put Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou up at the top of recommendations for comedy anime.1 point

Have you ever heard of the five love languages? 5LL is an idea that says there are five basic modes of communicating love to people, and that every person "speaks" one of those languages in particular. They are: - Words of Affirmation - Acts of Service - Receiving Gifts - Quality Time - Physical Touch It's possible that your love language is Words of Affirmation. Nothing wrong with that per se. It just means that, as you've noticed, you feel a need for people to recognize and/or compliment you. As for me, I'm pretty darn sure that I'm Acts of Service. Recognition and whatnot is nice, but I don't really need it. Similarly I don't give out compliments hardly at all. Instead I find ways to do something for people.1 point

Mobile/Desktop toggle option
Tay reacted to Abyssal Monkey for a topic
Not entirely sure if this affects only me, but I think it would be nice to be able toggle between mobile and desktop. As I usually browse on my desktop and occasionally on my phone, I'm more used to the desktop version and the extra amenities it offers. Specifically in my case I'm referring to the ability to see the most recently posted topic in a subforum. I know that the new experimental Fuwafabulous theme allows this to a certain extent, but the side effect is only being able to see two topics at a time. http://imgur.com/a/wn3yX Usually on other websites I can get around this by using the inbuilt mobile browser hack "display in desktop mode", but that doesn't seem to work on IPB4. Other minor bugbears this might fix would be the readability of long walls of text. I like my walls, but in this case, they seem like pillars.http://imgur.com/a/opJCE1 point -
Fuwanovel Confessions
Valmore reacted to CeruleanGamer for a topic
Confession: I have a habit of putting lotion on my hands/arms every 2-3 hours. It seems to be a habit and after getting my monthly bank statement, I was shocked to get $500 total worth of expenses from Bath and Body, where I usually only buy lotions. At least I get complimented a lot by people for smelling good.1 point -

What are the qualities that you look for in your future wife/husband?
MikeY91 reacted to Fred the Barber for a topic
Three things: The first two are also, probably not coincidentally, the primary things I look for when interviewing people for a job: competent and responsible. I think this is my version of what other people have said about "on the same wavelength" and "intelligent", but with the benefit of another few years (or another decade...) of experience. I don't care about quick-wittedness or cleverness, but rather about whether a person is able to understand important things (however much time it takes to reach that understanding) and willing to take ownership of things personally and ensure that everything goes well in that sphere. Third, and just as important: kind It's rare that I deem a woman to be physically unattractive. If that were the case, then I'd probably have trouble with a relationship with that person, but I don't consider this a major criterion like the above because it's very rare that it's not met, unlike those first three.1 point -

Fuwanovel Confessions
Fred the Barber reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
Now this is curiously strange. Three manga ago, I saw the saying "There's supposed to be 3 people who look exactly like you." for the very first time. Since then, it's appeared in all manga I've read.1 point -
Either one works: 1.) Bossy, forceful and concerned enough about my well being to kick my lazy ass into shape. (aka, save me) 2.) Inept and unable to survive without help, forcing me to become a dependable human being by my own. (aka, trigger my white knight) Otherwise, I'll continue to travel down the road of being a lone and grumpy cynic for the rest of my life.1 point

Most frustrating anime ever watched

any anime where the protagonist doesnt get anywhere with the girl and they are hovering within the friend zone for an eternity. So pretty much 95% of all animes. VNs for the f***ing win.1 point -
So any good WW2/modern age military anime out there?
Nightmare799 reacted to mjriedstra for a topic
It's a shame you don't want giant robots. A ton of terrific anime are about modern age mech warfare. I thought for about ten minutes trying to find something militaristic that doesn't have space travel, robots or airplanes and came up with almost nothing besides Valkyria Chronicles. Unless you're willing to stretch the definition of "military" pretty far to find something like Phantom of Inferno or Black Lagoon, or take an alternate timeline like Attack on Titan ... or GATE, which is half modern military, half fantasy.1 point -
I'm a simple person, my standards are more like "Are they a real, sentient human being?".1 point

Seeing as how Zebhra missed the last session I shall fill you all in... Part 3: Rivals in a Dead Town Starring: Zodai: the DM, Serria (NPC), Carrewyn (NPC) and Ariella (NPC) Nimbus: Mad Serpent Midgar JoeHawks: Orryn Abyssal Monkey: Aeryl Zebhra: Franz Special Appearance by; Babiker: Basha Our story continues with the adventurers, now with the addition of a new, and rather promiscuous human NPC, giving their Ranger friend a viking funeral after deciding to leave him behind. As they left the cave to continue their journey west Serria asked the group "Did anyone think to check his pulse?" All eyes turned to Carrewyn who was too busy swatting a fly with his sword to answer. Franz attempted to try some morning calisthenics but fell down a hill and knocked himself out. The party continued their travels until they reached the ruins of a village. Midgar and Orryn searched the town hall while the others looked around outside (presumable looking for something to prank Carrewyn with). Midgar searched one of the first floor rooms, got blinded by some dust and exited the room with his pride considerably wounded. Orryn on the other hand went upstairs and found an office that seemed to have been visited by a monster. Inside he found a locked drawer that drew his attention. The two met up with the others and told them of the draw, Aeryl led the others back to the room and opened the drawer with no effort (much to the amazement and embarrassment of everyone else). Inside there were many documents (which Ariella seemed very interested in) and a map. A tremor forced the group to continue their examination outside the hall. Serria tells the group that the symbol on the map was familiar to her. She, Orryn and Midgar followed the map to the room Midgar had visited earlier and found a trapdoor. Following it down the trio eventually found themselves at a door, which Orryn deduced was not lifeless on the other side. Orryn and Midgar drew straws to see who would open it (guess who lost). Midgar charged through the door and the group was blinded by a bright light. Orryn in a rare lapse of judgment rushed into the room, missed the light source and banged his head on a wall. On the other-side of the room was a mage named Basha who seemed to be in distress. In his hand was an empty potion vial. The mad mage mumbled some drivel before collapsing on the floor. Midgar and Orryn examined the floor to find many different potions scattered across the floor. Getting real tired of Midgar's pirate shit, and Orryns terminal righteousness, the two force fed each other potions that they picked up which resulted in the Dragonborn and the Gnome knocking each other out. Our story ends with the mage and Serria looking at each other, wondering who would carry the 6'5 lizard-man and who would carry the glorified leprechaun. On next weeks episode; more comic relief by serious characters.1 point

$10 For A Game Where You Only Have One Life (Literally)
krill reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
You don’t have to wait for Kojima to code this for you, you can give this radical system a go any time you wish. Take a game from your extensive (or otherwise) video game collection -> insert disc into console -> play game until you inevitably cock up and die -> eject disc -> grab hammer -> pound fanatically. Voila, one Kojima style Perma-death game. What fun! The lack of people actually doing this indicates that such a system would have little lasting appeal within the gaming community... that or people actually do rely on technology to do every little thing for them.1 point -
What are you playing?
Fred the Barber reacted to Flutterz for a topic
Finished Majikoi. I still stand by my opinion that it's basically just Little Busters crossed with Osananajimi wa Daitouryou. I mean, you have the red-haired girl that's like an animal, the overpowered black-haired older sister, the foreign student brought up by a japanophile, the isolated blue-haired girl, the leader that comes and goes as he pleases, the buff idiot, the similarly strong guy who pretends to not want to be part of the group but actually does, etc. Some of the routes I rather enjoyed but the drama still felt a little forced because of the silliness of the entire setting. I still enjoyed it but definitely not worth the hype Not sure what I'm going to be reading next, I thought of doing KoiRizo but then I remembered that it's a fucking pulltop game -_-1 point -
