In this link is the truth behind why Ren is so scared.3 points -
I have seen so many users saying "I can make a visual novel with [name_engine] , its so better than [name_engine_2] because [name_reason]." Yet they forgotten that there are always bad things in a engine, you could fall for paying such engine to only discover that it has no way to make that dream game. This is why why i'm listing well known vn engines and their cons, I hope the guide will help you pick the right engine for you not the company. renpy - One of the most known engine in the world (i'm not kidding), it uses python language to make vn. It's being updated as much as it can and also people have been able to make rpg from it. The main reason people choose this over any other engine is due to the freedom to add anything, learning python takes a while but most people have the novels stay in dating sims or storyline. Another key reason it's used is due to the fact that it can make windows, linux, mac, android, and IOS, which is very great advantage for anyone wanting to build games in a certain area or so. Finally it can be use for commercial and non-commercial use, however the art is not free but that is another topic itself. tyranobuilder - The main problem with this engine is the price but if you willing to overlook that it offers almost the same has renpy. HTML is the reason people have buy the game, however there have been problems with the HTML from not being able to click anything to buttons not working. It claims to be the fastest VN maker but that is something the user has to figure out. If you are able to code 2 scenes in renpy under 30 minutes thats fast progress, tyranobuilder is drag&drop meaning you have to waste 50% of your progress to clicking on a button. lastly tyranobuilder script language is javascript, almost no indie developer even dare use javascript, the reason is due to the fact it was never built for games. It's the main reason why tyranobuilder games lag campre to any other engine in this list. Also the maker of tyranobuilder fail to understand that it was Processing.js that make games work better in javascript not ECMAScript. Novelty- its the same idea of tyranobuilder but it was first built way before tyranobuilder, also its free so there is no reason to even buy tyranobuilder other than the HTML that lags. Novelty use C++ and java to script the language, this is a huge advantage since you can use this language to get jobs faster in the world and people from unity will hire you for just knowing how to code a vn in C++. As far as i understand, the main reason no one goes there is because its only windows OS which limits everyone who is not windows. Belle - Another VN engine that works like tyranobuilder, one big difference is that it's free. If you looking for tyranobuilder alternative for its HTML, this will be the one (again it was build first). Another advantage is that it really does run well in HTML but the bad news is that it only builds HTML which is the only thing it can build the game. Unity plugin: Fungus - Now i dont know much about this engine (reading things off google), it does seem like it another no code engine. what really makes this one different from all other engines that i list is its ability to run animated sprites, unity build (standard build, no consoles included), and the script is whatever unity has right now. Since this is Unity you will face these problems, Poor graphics quality as compared to Unreal Engine, Unfriendly User-Interface (even if you download the plug-in you will still have a bad time on it), and lastly dependent of unity, if their web browser stops working you have to wait for them to fix it, if unity discover a hack bug you have to update, if they going to upgrade you have to upgrade. Cloudnovel- A website browser to make VN, the reason i put this one so low is because it does a poor job to help developers. You'll find that there is no scripting language so you cant really do anything new with it. Another thing is that you cant use it outside their website so it stays in cloudnovel with no way to gain money. The drag&drop has pages that you must click and wait for the website to load your pictures, music and your gameplay. Lastly on why it makes such a bad vn maker is due to the fact that its only in english, sure it might be possible that someone might do it without reading but most of the great stuff is in english writing and in english videos. Thats everything, I didnt add GM because its design to build platform games not VN, construct is way too basic gaming that offers unneeded elements in VN, RPG maker is only build for RPG, adding long dialog will not help in a rpg (only the boss does that) 80% of the game is fighting not learning about the story. I hope this little insight of what each vn engine offers and what doesn't offer will help you. If you have any questions post here or want to ask why [engine_name] is not added it's because i can't post all of them.2 points

Both sides will be looked at, since I have lived in Japan and asked a few otaku about it before. Finally, we will also discuss how "true routes" affect a game and what it does to the overall story. While this is a list of topics and games, not everything will be covered and additional material may be showcased. We hope to see you there! Confession: Being an older nerd who had social problems makes me sad reading this. Because I want to help. I really do. I've been there, and it's not always easy. So, I'll try as best I can here. CHALLENGE: I'm going to tell you some things about myself here. At the end, I'm going to give you my email address. Zodai already has it, but he had a good day. Seriously, just write me about something. Anything. Consider me an email Pen Pal. Frankly, I always wanted pen pals anyway. No pressure, and you don't have to give all your personal details or anything - I'm not here to stalk you. Just type. My name's Robert, most people call me Bo. I'm 38 years old and I live in Florida, but I'm originally from a tourist trap part of New Jersey. Growing up I was into golf, tennis and band (symphonic and marching). I didn't date a lot in high school. Maybe because I tried too hard and approached it wrong. I wrote poetry all the time, though I'd be hard pressed to find any of it now. I didn't really keep track of it after college, where I also dated infrequently. It wasn't until after college that I got into comics. I took a liking to X-Men and particularly Gambit, and when Marvel cancelled his ongoing series I got really pissed and looked for alternatives. I ran into a start-up called CrossGen Comics, and started reading those, and I also signed up for their forums/chat room. In another thread I mentioned you could be anyone online, I found it easier to be myself. I wasn't lying. I never tried to pretend to be anything. While on the CrossGen site, I easily talked with many people, including females. And I'm not lying when I say that it somehow managed to have at least four different women interested in me. At the time I was living at home in NJ, working part time as a sports correspondent, part time at an Atlantic City paper and then full time at an Egg Harbor Township one. I was looking for a better paying position, and I went on an interview for a new weekly paper in New Hampshire. On the way there I stopped at one of those girl's places in Connecticut, and almost ended up with her. I got the position, and upon hearing it, a woman in Florida actually flew to NH to meet me - ultimately because she was afraid I'd end up with the girl in Connecticut. So she came up, and it went very well. In VN terms it was certainly a turn down what seemed to be the good path - if it was a Steam game someone at Fuwa would be adding the sex patch. We had a long distance relationship for a year, at that time the paper decided to go in a different direction and replaced almost all of its staff, me included. So, it was either go back to NJ, or go to Florida. I went to Florida. The only person in Florida I knew was my girlfriend. Scary, especially if it didn't work out than I'd be moving again. Fortunately, it worked out. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it. I've been married to her since December 2004 and we have two girls together. And I only won her over because I acted normal. I talked with her. Treated her with respect. Listened to her. Etc. I'm not an ugly guy. but I'm not particularly handsome, either. Anyway, there's me for you. So here's my address: [email protected]. You don't have to write your personal narrative or anything like me - just write about something. Anything. The VN you're reading. Favorite sports team. The weather. Whatever. You'll likely never meet me in person, but I want you to at least feel like there's someone who'll listen to you. You can consider me your friend even. And why not? The closest person in my life started out as internet data on a screen.2 points -

I think of you as the guy who uses the weird font. Also you wrote a pretty good review Confession: super whining time Confession: I'm curious what kind of reputation I have on here too. You could try talking to people who are also on their own. I remember going to an anime club alone once or twice.. and it's always a pleasant surprise when someone tries to talk to me... or else I just sit there alone being bored. Being on your own, it can be kind of hard to break into already formed groups.. so maybe try targeting the ones who are also alone? Since people who go to clubs mostly go to mingle & make friends, it shouldn't be too weird? I can be really shy... but sometimes I take the chance to be super weird out of my comfort zone to get to know someone and have made friends from it. You just have to make yourself dooo iiiit~ Target people you're not intimidated by first, and as you get better~ you can try with girls or w/e. As for your reputation, these days some of it revolves around the stuff with Rains (Since something like that is so rare in terms of intra-forum connections) but aside from that you seem intelligent and somewhat cute in terms of how you come off. Also, 2500 words today! YESSSSSSSS!2 points

Morality in games: What do you choose?
Shikomizue reacted to Turnip Sensei for a topic
Playing as jerkwad or homicidal maniac is only fun for so long, being generally nice is much more pleasant. But full-on paragon of virtue isn't that fun either, so I usually go with some kind of middle ground. Being good and nice to those who are nice, but not hesitating about using "evil" or questionable methods if situation calls it. Or if it concerns my companions and their safety. Friends before common good is usually how I choose. I also tend to do like Geralt; between evil and lesser evil, I rather don't choose at all. Also playing strictly "good" or "evil" character defeats the purpose of the moral system in the first place, at least for me. Why even bother if you're only picking certain answers in the first place?1 point -

Ahhh so you guys started as an internet thing and married when you were 27. Wow really inspiring story. Thanks for sharing. I'm still 24 and there are still many challenges ahead of me. Your story gives me hope and optimism in life. One thing I realized was I definitely have to step my game up when it comes to finance and general real life stuff. You made it happen. You flew to NH and Florida. I can relate to this. I'm soon leaving NJ (by next week). I've lived a decade in Jersey City area; absolutely hate this place... but I'm hopeful I'll be in a better place. I can attest that online interactions really help break the ice. It helps develop relationships that otherwise wouldn't happen in real life. Long distance is definitely not viable for the long-term though... It's tough.1 point -
Ah, sorry I did not make myself more clear - I'm well aware of how the Japanese feel about anime and visual novels. That does not change the fact, however, that there are concepts inherent to Japan that straight up do not exist in the US, where I am. For example: Japanese honorifics and keigo in general - I'd run into it in anime, but I didn't really get a solid feel for it until I had read a lot of VNs in Japanese. It took me awhile to wrap my mind that when trying to be formal/humble the language changes so much. The Tanabata festival - I knew nothing of this, but after seeing it come up again and again I now immediately know what is going on when someone references it. White Day - same as Tanabata, though I think I came across this in anime first. Japanese bathing practices - shower/clean/scrub, THEN get in the bathtub Proper Japanese greetings ... Are we seeing what I mean here? I'm not talking about the culture of visual novels and anime in Japan, I am talking about aspects of Japanese culture that are found in Japanese VNs. While yes, there may be some erroneous tropes that exist in VNs that don't exist in real life in Japan, that doesn't change the fact that you can still learn quite a bit about life over there from VNs.1 point

Dis some Fuwa relationship advice thread v2 Side comment regarding looks, its funny cuz among my peers you see girls all the time gossiping and fangirling over KPOP Big Bang's Taeyang and how hawt the dude is but no no no, if I fanboy over SNSD's Taeyeon & how hawt she is, I get called a pervert. Damn double standards. Regarding the how2getintorelationships, first you gotta get acquainted with a gal: work on homework together, go out for some Boba Milk Tea together, and always make sure you're the one to say hi and bye whenever you meet and part. Phase 2 is where you test the waters, throw in a flirty flirt compliment, but you gotta be smooth and don't just do it out of the blue, comment on her clothes, her hair, etc. and see how she responds, if favorably, woot woot, proceed. If not, stay bffs Phase 3 after years of favorable respondages to your flirtages you just randomly go "yo I lik u" and then you either immediately get a bad end or start the route which will lead to a bad end eventually.1 point -

This one is a very small, niche moment and pure bias, but I will mention it anyway: Princess Evangile: ... And many more I just can't think of right now and under the gun. I agree. It is quite a fantastic pyramid! For what it's worth, I do think you bring up some interesting things to talk about. I definitely would not mind participating, but I'm a bit incompetent in these types of engagements. I'm the kind of person that gets interested in various topics, and yet most of the time I find myself at a loss as to how I can make a worthwhile contribution to discussion. Consequently, the majority of my posts are idle chatter, image/video spamming, and sharing my opinion on whatever I'm reading, playing, or watching. Sometimes I'll get into a debate with someone if I feel confident enough in what I'm arguing about, but that's it. Personally, I think you should keep on with what you're doing. The more chances you give to converse with you, the better you're likelihood for a chance encounter will be.1 point -

That Suzu peeing scene in Ayakashibito was also... Yeah Hmmm I think I can stomach peeing scenes no problem but what makes me cringe is the act of peeing while inside the woman. What a wonderful doujin you just reminded me of. It was 10/10. The concept was there was a drought, so a country survived by drinking their piss. The way to propose was to give the vagina a golden bath. The MC unwittingly did it to the princess of the country. Wonderful things ensue. I haven't seen much watersports in VNs, and even less vaginal pissing. For shame!1 point -

I suppose you could create a setting where it's normalized for the defeated to submit themselves sexually to the victor. That's still a form of sexual exploitation, but that's the simplest way to implement it across-the-board without dedicating yourself to individualized scenarios. Otherwise each heroine will have a personality, and you'll have to set up creative scenarios to convincingly portray why each heroine would submit to some random stranger. That's hard to do without giving the impression of being formulaic. And honestly, implementing "sexy scenes" while they're still your foe on the battlefield without rape or some form of coercion is... basically impossible to implement without convoluted storytelling.1 point
