After having read the reddit post, I really do have to agree that this specific community (the VN community) is very easily offended and quick to overreact over every little thing. I remember when all the FuwaMods swapped their forum avatars with each other's and they suddenly got called out for being unprofessional and immature. Like what the fuck lol. Mods aren't allowed to have a bit of fun now? I don't know what attributes to this - maybe it's because a majority of the fanbase are literally teens - but it's ridiculous how butthurt people get over nothing5 points -
Yes, I have indeed decided to add books to my regular posts, mostly due to Rooke's suggestion. Understand, if you think I've read a lot of VNs... that is nothing in comparison to the number of books I've read over the twenty-eight years since I learned to read. That number is somewhere in the tens of thousands... and one of the reasons I can be so intolerant when it comes to the excessive reliance on conventions in VNs, lol. Honor Harrington Honor Harrington is both a character and a series written by David Weber, one of the more famous science fiction authors out there. He tends to write military sci-fi, mostly, and in a different way from Ringo (Ringo being the most famous name in military sci-fi), he has reshaped the way I saw science-fiction to some extent. Honor, in the book On Basilisk Station, is the captain of a light cruiser named Fearless that has been exiled to the hardship post/dumping ground of her star nation's holdings for the crime of being an incidental part of the humiliation of one of her more well-connected superiors. Throughout the series - up until this point (there are over twelve books now, and Harrington is both older and wiser), Harrington in many ways embodies all the military holds up as an ideal. She is courageous, intelligent, aware of her duty, and she has a knack for ending up in the worst positions you could imagine (both politically and militarily). Her character, over the course of the series, advances from a somewhat immature young officer to a wise woman who is all to0 aware of the cost of doing her duty. She and her treecat (an alien empathic animal that occasionally forms bonds with humans) survive some of the worst hells, psychological and physical, that you could imagine existing in the mortal universe... and endure the loss of those who don't. Now, a good military sci-fi series is no good without an enemy empire to deal with... and in this one, it is the People's Republic of Haven, a massive interstellar star nation with an apparently overwhelming advantage in numbers... but an economy that is going down the drain to the welfare state and the deliberate sabotage of the education system by the political elites (sounds kind of like a combination of democratic socialism for the first and Republican education policy for the latter, lol). In Haven, over two thirds of the population is on the Dole, the name for their welfare system which basically hands out a living allowance to everyone who wants it... in exchange for making the 'legislature' and all other government positions hereditary some three centuries before. Unfortunately, this has caused a slow but accelerating decay in the system as a whole, as entire generations grow up with the deliberately castrated education system and no incentive to try to rise above their peers. This has led Haven to a very simple - and short-term - strategy... conquer neighbors, gut their economies to feed the worthless mouths of the mob, then include them in the Dole... rinse and repeat, ever expanding outward. Unfortunately for Honor's homeland, Manticore, it has been slated as the next morsel to go down the throats of the faceless masses, and the antiquated but massive navy of the 'Peeps' is planning to make itself the fork. The first few novels are basically preliminaries to the outbreak of open war (albeit bloody ones), where Honor finds herself in some really nasty situations as she does her duty and in the process incidentally foils the best-laid plans of the other side. One thing to keep in mind is that warships in the Honorverse tend to have hundreds to thousands of crewmen... meaning that every breach of the hull can kill dozens, further meaning that even in a 'minor confrontation' dozens to hundreds will die... and Honor rarely gets into 'minor confrontations'. The guilt of a commander that loses men to the enemy is an important theme throughout the series, though not a primary one. Manticore, Honor's homeland, is a small three-planet, two-system star nation at the beginning, ruled by a constitutional monarchy, complete with a House of Lords and a House of Commons... Generally speaking, the position of the monarch is kind of similar to the current one of the Queen of England, both in law and substance... in other words, while she has very little actual direct authority by law, her influence is immensely strong, both as a symbol and as an individual. The House of Lords, which was basically formed by ennobled 'original' colonists who were there before the plague that caused them to bring in large numbers in a second wave, is supposed to act as a restraint on the elected House of Commons, and generally the Prime Minister is chosen from amongst its members. Manticore is probably the most advanced nation in the entire human-ruled galaxy (outside of genetics, which is Beowulf's and Mesa's specialty), at least partially because their prime system is at a wormhole junction that allows a much faster movement from one end of the ginormous Solarian Union to the other. This gives them massive amounts of money and direct access to technology from other worlds that has let them build up a huge advantage in relative terms over the People's Republic, which is an issue that is important throughout much of the series. In many ways, it is easy to think of Manticore as a futuristic version of the British Empire without the colonialist tendencies and racial arrogance. Throughout the series, characters on the 'side of good' are put in situations that are pure hell, forced to make hard decisions, and they frequently live or die by those decisions, with Honor always at the forefront. The series as a whole is really well-written... with realistic-feeling antagonists and easy to love characters on both sides of the war (Theisman from the second book comes to mind for the People's Republic), as well as people that are truly worthy of hate and contempt on both sides. The more serious elements are broken up by the humorous interactions of Honor, her subordinates, and her friends, and there are many times throughout the series when big issues of morality are brought to the forefront (such as the morality of gene-manipulation, stating a big one). If there is one thing you'll notice about any David Weber book... it is that he manages to create characters that make you want to cheer them on... even on the other side. He rarely, if ever produces a side of one of his books' wars that doesn't have people that are good despite the system they work within, and even the best of his people - including Honor herself - have their moments when they show the baseness of human nature's darker side. Honor is the type that leashes her dark side with duty and unleashes it on the enemies of her people... but that dark side definitely exists, chained beneath the surface (as is seen rather clearly in the second and fourth books). My conclusion about this series - which I've reread four times - is that I can honestly recommend it to anyone who likes science fiction and space operas... but for people who can't handle complexity - both of scenario and of moral/philosophical issues - they will probably have difficulty with it. The Honorverse is still going strong, currently... though it has several anthologies and two side-series (one based in the early days of Manticore and another focused on characters involved in the anti-slavery movement). Honor herself hasn't been sidelined... but the story has evolved beyond that small portion of space that contains Haven and Manticore, meaning that it is not so focused around her anymore.4 points

Mmm... first of all, this is by Onamatope, a company previously known only for its harem-ge from the Mecha-con series. The Mecha-con series fell somewhere into that thin area between a nukige and a moege, and it was actually pretty decent for something in that area of the VN universe. So, keeping that experience in mind, I went into this VN with a more open mind than some people probably would have. Fortunately, this VN wasn't a disappointment, precisely because I wasn't looking for it to be something out of this world. Ok, first... this is a chuunige, in the sense that it follows a format I think most people will be familiar with... this young guy is transformed and forced into a world where he has to fight to survive, with many pretty girls around him... sound familiar? It should. That right there is the basis for about ninety-percent of the entire 'gakuen battle' type chuunige sub-genre. In a few ways, this VN definitely borrows from Draculius, which I still think is the best non-superviolent vampire VN. There are a lot of differences between the two... but they share the commonality of allowing for a coexistence of slice-of-life and comedy with a more serious background story. I'll say it straight out though... there should have been an Iris path. I don't say this because I'm a lolicon (though the protagonist and his ancestors all were, apparently) - as I'm not - but because Iris was, at first, second and third glance, the most interesting female character in the VN. All the heroines had their moments... in fact, I was really, really surprised at the degree to which they managed to balance all the paths and gave the heroines an equal amount of story. Due to the fact that the first half of their paths are the same, you might think Aoi and Lycoris got a bit screwed over, but their events after the split are distinct enough - and long enough - that I can't really say either got screwed over by the scenario designer's choices. In that sense, this VN is something of a triumph of the art of scenario design, which was one of the areas in which Onamatope generally shined in its near-nukige Mecha-con series as well (one of the reasons my impressions of those games were positive). In terms of raw writing... the battle writing is actually some of the better non-Light and non-Propeller I've seen. That isn't to say it is first class, because it isn't. The protagonist is way too much of a hetare when it comes to dealing with his vampirism, and the fact that they chose to make all the heroines, sub-heroines, and the protagonist a bit 'baka' was a bit of an odd choice that had moments where it fell flat. The regular narrative writing is better than you generally see in a nakige (which generally get favored with the best moege-variant writers), and I can honestly say that the pacing didn't throw me off very often, though there were some shaky moments midway and early on. In terms of visuals... this VN definitely needed more combat CGs. I knew they would cut corners on this, as Onamatope is not a company that can afford the kind of budgets for visuals that monsters like Will and Light can. There was a bit too much reuse of the same tachie poses to simulate combat, and the best I can say is that they gave the protagonist a face and a tachie for once, which was a huge plus. ... unfortunately they didn't give him a voice. Perhaps one of the biggest no-nos with a modern chuunige is to fail to give the protagonist a voice. The simple reason for this? Because the protagonist in a chuunige is always intended to be an actual person, rather than a simple self-insert. As such, it is rather ridiculous to give into that particular convention when even using a random staff member would probably satisfy most people. Generally speaking, the music in this game is... generic-sounding in the sense that chuunige music can ever be generic-sounding. That means that the tunes are ones I suspect get sold to every company intending to make this type of VN, with a few twists and changes in the rhythm to make them sound different to the ears of someone who doesn't listen. On the positive side, there is no point in this VN where I felt like the music was misused, which is a far bigger flaw that simply reusing music tracks from other games. Overall, what can those of you looking forward to the localization look forward to? I'd say that if you want some slice-of-life with vampires merged with a low-level chuunige story, this will definitely be something to look forward to. On the other hand, fans of more serious chuunige will not be satisfied by this, as the game is just to light in the slice-of-life scenes and the protagonist is a bit too much of a near-hetare when it comes to the vampire issues.2 points -

It’s an internet-wide phenomenon. I was on the Bethesda forums when their fanbase melted the joint for a year after Oblivion. The same thing happened with Mass Effect over the ending. More angst over Diablo 3. It’s happening all the freaking time these days, and yet the quality of the stuff we’re getting is consistently high. I remember the good old days when people voted with their wallet and didn’t whinge so much, it was much quieter… I should also point out to all those young hippies talking of boycotts and who think people power on the internet is all-rad: Bethesda faced a huge revolt from their loyal fanbase after they went in another direction with Oblivion -> look at the effect it had on Skyrim. Mass Effect faced a huge boycott over Mass Effect -> look at DA:O, in fact we were facing the ‘death of Bioware’ if you all recall. Boycotts only work when you have the majority of people on your side, more often than not you guys only have the noisy protest vote. I like to hang there when I'm in a certain mood, but I don't pretend it isn't a slummy place. I'm used to it though because RPGCodex is my favourite haunt and it's pretty much 4chan for old-school RPGers.2 points -

Unfortunately that's just the way the internet is these days. It's the trend to act as offended as humanly possible at the smallest slight, and whenever something happens that people don't like, no matter how insignificant it may be, they yell and scream until someone addresses the issue. Or doesn't and then they forget a week later. edit: See above. lmao.2 points -
Back on topic: I should point out that while Doddler doesn’t agree with their public relations behaviour (for obvious reasons,) he says the game looks much better in 1280x720 than it did at 800x600, even with the cropping. So there you go, an endorsement from someone many in the VN community respects and adores. Maybe that will calm the hyperbole over the issue. Cropping itself isn’t a bad thing. They seemed to have exchanged a higher resolution for less overall information. It becomes a bad thing if important aspects are chopped out, so some kind hearted guinea pig really needs to play through and offer some feedback for the fans (didn’t enjoy the VN so it won’t be me.) What does that have to do with anything. Doddler programs things, there's no reason to hold his opinion on artwork over everyone else's simply because he's more known. Personally I like to think artists put effort into the background just as much as they put effort into drawing the focus, so even just cutting out 'meaningless bits' is somewhat of a shame. Especially since it announced that the game was going to be upscaled, yet a lot of people wouldn't exactly call that an improvement if that means losing something else in return for it.2 points

I'm slowly coming to terms with Kickstarter being used for eroge localization. While Sekai Project has fudged it up, I think companies like Degica and MiKandi may actually use it for good without ignoring the eroge fanbase. Both companies have pledged to make the adult content available through official channels. That's good enough for me. I may be hesitant to fund these endeavors, but if other fans want to take the risk in my stead I have no reason to stop them. If it means we'll get more titles in English: please, take as much risk as you want! I'll sit quietly over here while these suckers hardcore fans subsidize a wider selection of titles at no additional cost to me.2 points

Zenophilious: Kickstarter may not originally have been intended to be used this way, but SP are hardly the first or the most high-profile ones to use it this way. If you'd preferred Kickstarter to stay limited to usage for its original intent, well, that ship has sailed. Doesn't mean you've got to throw any money at their campaigns, of course - I pretty much never do, either, though that's because I'm just not interested in them to begin with. But I don't think it matters at this point whether SP continues using Kickstarter this way. It's not like there's some sort of finite pool of Kickstarter money that would go to other projects if SP stopped using it. Moreover, Kickstarter is very well suited for the VN market since it allows the company to offer the main product combined with additional stuff at a much higher price than they could get from a sale on Steam. There's a decent amount of people in the community who, if given the opportunity, are willing to spend well over 100$ for a VN that by itself would cost at most maybe 40$, which makes VNs viable that otherwise might not be able to recoup the costs of localization. So it's not just a matter of pushing the risk onto the customers. Amusingly enough, that clashes a bit with the idea that the traditional eroge fanbase aren't their target audience. I'm pretty sure most people willing to spend a large amount of money on a single VN would be part of that audience. Well, maybe not 4chan in particular, no idea about them. Personally, the main problem I have with SP is that they don't outright say "yes, we'll publish an 18+ version of every VN we license that has one, as long as the developer will let us", which irks me, no matter the reason they don't. But in the end that just means they get no money from me unless and until they do publish the 18+ version. I guess I'd actually be pissed if they got their hands on something I really cared about and proceeded to release only an all-ages version, but that fortunately hasn't happened so far.2 points -
Who is Responsible for Eroge Distribution in the West?
Josephl64 and one other reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
So it came to my attention recently upon reading the G-Senjou no Maou CG thread that there are some members of the community who believe the Japanese developers are the ones responsible for setting restrictions on their games when they are delivered overseas. I want to clarify that point a little bit so people understand who is making all the decisions. A long time ago, Mephisto (an old member of Fuwanovel) and I did a live stream translation of Cocoro@Function! by Pulltop. After uploading some of the previous recordings we did to YouTube, I noticed that after a few months I got 4-5 copyright strikes and my videos were taken down. Pulltop yakuza jokes aside, I initially thought the company itself was the group who claimed my videos and had them taken down. It turns out that was not the case. In Japan, there is a group called the Ethics Organization of Computer Software (EOCS). Functioning much like the ESRB, it aims to promote a sense of ethical responsibility with respect to the production, distribution, and use of computer software. In this case, adult PC games and mobile games. To give you a better idea of what it actually does, here are some of its responsibilities: Support bishoujo gamesCombat software piracyProvide scholarships for students interested in becoming software designersRecognize good retailers (segregating games of different ratings, etc.)Essentially, this is the group responsible for setting the rules of distributing eroge. It functions much like a committee, meaning that every developer who is interested in selling their products in Japan must be a part of this group. They are also the group responsible for creating the "Japan Sales Only" label and are allowed to remove developers from their committee should they break protocol. In other words, the EOCS determines how games are localized overseas. If a company doesn't follow their strict set of rules, they are removed from the group and are no longer able to sell their games at retailers in Japan (i.e. = Sofmap). If you are interested in reading more about it, check out their official Japanese site that Mephisto and I browsed a long time ago: http://www.sofurin.org/index.htm http://www.sofurin.org/htm/topics/34.htm2 points -

This is the way business works, guys and gals. It's not always pretty, but it's how the sausage gets made. It's a combination of SP being unable to talk about certain things because of contractual/legal obligations PLUS them not wanting to embarrass their partners and thereby endanger future projects. I've done several ad campaigns for game releases involving Japanese developers and/or Japanese IPs. I've lived it. There are layers after layers after layers of red tape to go through before you're allowed to say just about anything. (And for the record, I'm not a fan of cropping CGs either.)2 points -
Fuwans, How Do You Bond With Your Siblings?

A little "update" after a couple weeks. I really appreciate everyone who's dropped by this thrad and left their opinions and experiences. It's quite surprising how many different relationships you can with your siblings and I learned quite a bit from all this. (Mainly that there's no one single way to properly deal with your sister) After making this thread, I've become a little more proactive in talking to my sister, although we don't make much small talk yet. I mostly tend to listen to whatever she has to say, but I do try to talk back rather than just walking away now. I've begun helping her with her homework more frequently and actually staying with her in the room rather than just answering her when she has a question and leaving. This also led me to learn I suck at 5th grade math problems, but on that end both me and my sister could relate. Not much has happened since, but we are going to the movies this Sunday and, as some already suggested, this should be the easier way to get along without an excessive amount of interaction, so I'm looking forward to it. Not sure if anyone would be interested but I figured, as the one who made the thread, I'd let you know I did try to do something about the whole situation and things are going okay~2 points -

Due to legal issues, on the advice of our lawyers, we cannot talk about WAS - NJ eta: We are still committed to delivering it, we just can't talk about what happened. https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/3rg7y9/sekai_project_and_rvisualnovels/cwnvo4o There's been problems with the Doujin group in Japan, so that project's been a bit of a clusterfuck it sounds like. Why should we accept that lame excuse? why didn't sekai project tell us from the beginning that it wasn't them managing the project. sic "All production work was managed by the circle initially. After September of this year we've taken over" Why did I back sekai when it wasn't them who were in charge of the project and why didn't they tell us on the KS page? And why did they make a contract with them if that was the case? Something isn't right. What does anything have to do with the fact that they uploaded an old patch because nobody really checked anything to begin with and then ignoring repeatedly everything related to that issue (deleting a post on steam that told them about that mistake) and a month later giving that shitty excuse of legal issues which isn't related to the bad management and poor service customer that they have, so did "the circle" manage their steam account and upload files for them? or did their lawyer advice them to do that too huh? Why did we get to know that they were having legal issues after 9 month of the project being delayed? Come on, stop defending something that cannot be defended. I will love to give a lame excuse like that in my life and get away with it.1 point

Katawa Shoujo, Da Capo, and Shuffle are pretty normal school life/slice of life romances to begin with. No freaky sex scenes or anything. I would NOT recommend Grisaia since it's just way too long and the common route can easily bore someone who isn't used to reading. Baby steps are important in reading visual novels and you dont want to get into something heavy/long at the start. You want fast, easy reads so you can read more different ones and familiarize yourself with the genres and what you like. Also whoever recommended Saya no Uta, you should replay it and ask yourself why the hell you would recommend this to a newbie? There's no way a first time visual novel reader can handle that deep, gory, stuff unless they like horror movies or have a fetish for gore/blood.1 point -

Like I said before: "People are just really bad at criticism on the internet even if they don't know it. A portion of the people genuinely have complaints but don't actually know how things work, resulting in unreasonable suggestions. Some simply complain because they want to stir shit up. And there are those who actually give helpful critique but are drowned out by all the flaming and complaining that really helps no one at all. Not to mention, most of the flaming is based on assumptions and ignorance." That said, there's really no reason or benefit to blatantly ignore good criticism unless your feedback is just really bad. People have written well-structured statements describing how SP needs to step up their PR game, and they have acted on that by hiring new PR people. So Scorp, I imagine you must have unintentionally said something that would make people think you are being confrontational. I work freelance so I don't do work specifically for SP, though that's where a lot of my workload is from at the moment I see that you're not taking this ban quite well though, despite stating that you didn't care before. If you honestly think that saying "I honestly recommend the original version with the fan patch instead" is okay on the G-Senjou forum, then just wow lol. Politely-worded or not, both threads were closed for the same reason (and it wasn't because they weren't being polite). I'm not surprised, considering both of the topics were actually outright promoting piracy; meaningful criticism/discussion, or not - you do not post such statements on devs' (semi)official message boards, otherwise you'll always end with the same kind of result. It’s an internet-wide phenomenon. I was on the Bethesda forums when their fanbase melted the joint for a year after Oblivion. The same thing happened with Mass Effect over the ending. Considering how much art already ends up on the cutting room floor, and quite a number of BGs are already cropped before they're entered into games, the situation shouldn't be much more of a shame than it already is. The decision to cut these was the company in question, the decision to crop them further was likewise, so all you're talking about is the degree of waste which means we start heading into pedantry. Definition - Upscale: To increase the resolution of. It can have a vaguer sort of meaning but when used in that way it can mean anything. Lastly... Doddler is cool, why would you dismiss his opinion so If you read this topic closely, I already proposed a way to solve the problem with cut-outs, which could be rather easily implemented in KAG engine (I assume they still use it). About upscale I do not know, if they do a mechanical upscale of the existing 800x600 arts then this is shame, if they have high-res arts and do crops from them - this is better, of course, but still shame as it is still cut-outs. Obv all this blablabla is useless, as SP would not listen and game is on Steam today, but... Who knows, maybe one day would be a re-release? Doddler... I have mixed feeling about this person. Same as dovac, I would say he was much better in prior days, when he was doing Grisaia for fans and posting things in the blog for tech things... So now it is hard to say, what his true feelings are - he have to eat, you know? and he have to do Grisaia 2 & 3, as I understand, for Sekai - and he himself changed, his work changed, the time involved into interaction with VN publishers changed...1 point

The proof is the size of SP's catalog of available of future available titles. That's public. Of course their finances are not public, no company is going to get out the details of their finances for a couple of nerds to see. It's your right to think this is not proof enough but without any hint of counter-evidence at all it's irrational to claim what you claim. For god's sake, stop with this argument. Nobody sane in his mind will ever think that the next big place to make money is the translation of niche porn games from Japan and quit an actually profitable job to go for it. It's even worth than thinking you'll get rich by making Youtube videos. If you think dovac isn't a fan of VNs and just an opportunist, please consider the fact that he's also been hosting out of his own pocket some VN community websites for years, before he even started Sekai Project. Or that he helped a japanese company out of the red by lending them money with no ties to it. You have all the rights to dislike the man and probably many reasons to (he doesn't seem very likable after all) but to think he's in that game for money is ridiculous. Let me have my ridiculous opinion, ok? I do not believe dovac is the person who does things in sake of community, nowhere near. Dovac before and dovac now seems two complete different persons, he now got lot of conceit and egotism, at least this is how I see it. My mails with questions and suggestions got ignored, my opinion was ridiculed... I was initially very neutral, even positive towards Sekai. But after this mess with 18+ releases and talk with great dovac himself on vndb I got impression that this guy never care about audience he supposed to work for or even want to know anything apart money he got on KS (sort of that was told, I can find you quote, if you want). So by me it is your reasons to see him as white knight are kind of ridiculous, maybe because they still did not chopped to death your favorite VN? Mine was G-Senjou, this is why got so hyped before and so pissed off after.1 point

Oh, I wouldn't buy a censored eroge on Steam. You're preaching to the choir there. Sekai Project is clearly focused on non-adult releases, which isn't where my interests lie. Yet they haven't abandoned eroge fans either. Maybe there will be an adult release eventually? I don't want censored games, so that issue is more important to me than some clumsily cropped CG. So the other guy got banned too? Jeez. If that's how they're treating people then perhaps Sekai Project doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. What is it with developers censoring criticism on Steam? Seems like a common theme recently. If it keeps up the Steam forums will be useless for objective discussion, since only pro-company opinions will be allowed. I heavily value free speech, and I'll personally boycott any company I feel is trying to suppress valid criticism just because it's bad for business. A veteran of VNDB was complaining that he didn't trust company forums because they had incomprehensible rules and censored dissent; I dismissed it as a bit alarmist at the time, but maybe he had a point. I've tended to hang out on company forums because they tend to attract interesting discussion and you get some insider info from employees, but Steam in particular is looking increasingly worthless as a community and forum for discussion.1 point

Sekai Project cropped G-Senjou no Maou CGs
CeruleanGamer reacted to Rance for a topic
I can see why you might think that, but I was simply saying to stick with the original and use the fan patch. Whether people legally import or torrent it is out of my hands. Importing would be ideal but no one is going to buy it just because I told them to, just being realistic about that. As for having to "beat" free fan translations: The fact is the torrent has been available for years, just taking that into account. If the official release is worse than the original that people could easily get for free, it gives them no reason to buy it. You're not gaining anything then, you're just losing out. Why waste your money in that case? From a business perspective it's just a bad way to make sales. If they even offered the original up without the widescreen and cropped cgs, or cut sex scenes, I would have no problem buying and supporting that. As it stands though there's just no reason to support or buy this release. It's incomplete. Like I said you can't expect sales out of sympathy or pity alone. If a more holistic version easily accessible, why should anyone go out of their way for less? I'd love to support this release because G-senjou no maou is a great title, but I don't think people are about to pay full price on a cut down release. While some may think I have this personal agenda, and am just hating on Sekai because I was banned, as I said earlier I'm not angry nor do I take it personally. I just think it's petty and disagree with their tactics. You saw the other post by Maou who was far more neutral than me and didn't even mention a fan patch, and he got perma banned too. We made these posts specifically to inform people, because we want everyone to have the best experience possible. If I was simply hate mongering and had no intentions of supporting these releases and was just going to pirate them anyways, do you really think I'd waste even a second on forums talking about it? I want them to do better, and I want them to give us a reason to support these titles so we don't have to resort to importing or piracy. Visual Novels are my life's passion, they can give us some of the most significant experiences, make us feel emotions we didn't even know we had, and help us through the darkest of times in our life. I want to share those experiences with as many people as possible. That's why it kills me when titles like this get cut down and treated the way they do. While a sex scene might seem like "useless porn" or "filler" some, it gives a strong insight into that character's personality you wouldn't have gotten to see otherwise. Every detail counts when you feel a strong attachment to something.1 point -

Never said their budget is unjustified, but whether they can actually attract the sort of funding they're asking for is another matter. What they may discover is that the English eroge market is still very niche and immature. Companies like JAST and MangaGamer are basically farming in the desert, in the hopes that maybe one day something nice will grow. Sekai Project has licensed a few high profile titles that managed to draw sufficient interest, but that sort of momentum is unsustainable. They'll run out of low-hanging fruit to pick before long. The English eroge market is a desert that simply can't sustain prolonged harvesting. MiKandi has to temper their expectations or their seeds will never bear fruit.1 point -

Another reason I wanted to make this post is to help clarify why I believe a lot of Japanese companies don't want to have their games licensed. It isn't about being xenophobic like I have seen a lot of people argue. Rather, I think it comes down to the fact that these companies are afraid of breaking the rules of the EOCS and don't want to lose their retail rights in Japan.1 point -

I think people are mainly upset by the lack and quality of sekai project's PR. It would be one thing if they responded that it was just out of their hands, but instead they tell people to shut their dirty whore mouths.1 point -

I hated this story. The beginning was already really sketchy, I mean, we get introduced to three characters in two paragraphs and one of them (the cashier at the drug store) doesn't even make a second appearance in the story. Hello author, ever heard about chekhov's gunman? Next, our incredibly badly paced "romance" jumps into an H-scene, which goes on for way too long and annoys the audience by switching locations every other paragraph. And in the end, we the audience, are left just as blueballed as the protagonist. A minor saving grace would be the comedic element, but all in all it was too short and bad to leave an impression on me. Did the author just make a first draft and decided to go with it? I mean, what the fuck happend? Overall score: Pros: + The comedy parts were really good, like when the dogs came into play. + The protagonist is a likeable and relatable character. I mean, he has sex and a ton of weeb shit, that's everyone's dream, right? Cons: - Too short - Awkward pacing (the scene jumps happend to sudden and there is no real ending). - Tone issues (we go from self depriving "mimimi, I can't get laid" to comedy and porn, pick your tone ffs). - The utter lack of voice acting and music. I mean, am I supposed to hum baby got back while reading this? - Plot holes: We never get to know why the mother can't see the protagonist and his ex hanging out in a hot tub at 3:00 AM in the garden. Her motivations aren't explained at all. 3/101 point -
