  4. Any chance you could flexibly allocate funds to translation depending on how much money the campaign brings in? Maybe have 1 pass if the goal is just met, and add more passes as stretch goals (or folded into other stretch goals)? That makes most sense to me, and it would allow translation quality to scale with the amount of interest--which, IMO, is exactly how it should work. That might allow you cut the initial starting goal even further to maximize the chances of success, without sacrificing translation quality if the campaign goes as well as you hope. The team has all agreed, without question, to do the final pass for free. Also... we've just added Backerkit, which has a PayPal option inside: http://help.backerkit.com/article/351-paying-with-paypal

  5. LSD, Undertale, or what? also lol "umbilical chord" Bloodborne Oh OK then Confession: It sucks that most tracks I used to love just a month ago now do nothing for me. Been trying to listen to Stairway to Heaven and I just can't into it even though I normally love it. Maybe you're just dead inside try this: Wow, that's a deep pull there. I haven't listened to it in years, but it's a great album, and much more listenable than The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. Confession: I got Fuwa withdrawal after not reading this thread for three whole days.

  6. Tomoya is bestboy, because he's basically just me in real life. Done with Satsuki and really pleased with this one, I understand why she's contending with Isara for publicly accepted best girl. Two more routes to go and I will then announce who the best girl is and why everyone else is wrong.

  10. http://mangagamer.org/gahkthun/ Woot! I thought for sure that this would slip into 2016, but MangaGamer is managing to squeeze it in just before the year's end, getting it out there December 23rd! For those who don't know, this is the latest entry in Liarsoft's acclaimed Steampunk franchise, which also contains the popular fan translated titles Sekien no Inganock and Shikkoku no Sharnoth. They're a unique setting in VNs. Some of the games are set in fictional locations within the world, but some like Gahkthun, are set in early 20th century Europe, fusing together steampunk, fantasy, and science fiction themes with a hint of lovecraftian horror. The sky overhead is under a permanent blanket of smog, while the seas have been dyed black by pollution. Gahkthun takes place in Marseille, France in 1908, starring one Nikola Tesla. This shit couldn't possibly be more nerdy and I love it. Each game in the series is written by Sakurai Hikaru, notable for her poetic prose. This prose is something that was pretty much lost entirely in the Amaterasu translations of Inganock and Sharnoth, but Gahkthun's translation is being handled by Koestl instead. Koestl, known for his absolutely excellent Grisaia translation, is trying to preserve as much of the feel of the original work as possible. In case you can't tell, I'm super excited for this. I was a fan of the previous games and this one looks awesome. I really want it to do well so MangaGamer and Liar-soft wants to release the rest of the series and possibly other Liar-soft VNs as well. Anyone else excited for this?

  11. I have a tendency to ramble. The name I chose here is a (possibly incorrect and odd-looking?) result of me google-translating my pen name, Crowley Karter Jarvis... Heheh...err... Does it sound feminine? Not that It matters that much, i just, ah, nevermind. Visually, I'm a lanky mess, nothing but sharp angles, pointy bones and stringy muscles. Outer irises are green, inner irises are brown. Swamp colors. I have the darkest natural shade of hair that could sill be considered vaguely blonde. There is a large patch of silver hair on the top-back-right of my head, where I part it. Does this mean anything? I don't know. I hope so. My legs are also very long. Thus, I have been told I resemble a sketched character that simply popped to life. I choose to believe this instead of believing I was born. I reject your reality and substitute my own! I have also been told I resemble Vash the Stampede, so I chose him as my avatar, for the time being. My hair is much less spiky, however. From an early age I became obsessed with nearly every work of fiction that exists worldwide, making my own creative works, and visualizing myself in a very fictional way. Real life took a side seat as I spent most of my youth alone, daydreaming about what isn't, what could be, and where I fit into it. I forget the word. Let me look it up... Chuuniybou. Yes. Am I exaggerating just because it's the internet? No. I promise you. It doesn't bother me though. I have more fun. My personality type is The Mediator, which is true. Like most generic main characters... I often give others the impression that I don't care. In reality, I hate conflict, and, when questioned or asked for favors, cannot contain my desire to help, protect, and in other ways strain myself for the good of others. Why? I don't know. My eyes are deep and I unconsciously furrow my brow whenever I think, giving myself a grumpy look that really isn't true.... It's vexing, but I can't stop. Interestingly, the first visual novel I ever played was Steins Gate, followed by Katawa Shoujo, and now, If my Heart Had Wings. I enjoy attempting to write fiction, mostly steampunk, horror, science fiction, with fictional races I usually invent on-the-spot. I also dabble in poetry, though it's normally quite dark, and centered on my own musings about my sanity. I will spare you those... ;} Elsewhere, I am a mentor on a broad-spectrum writing forum, and currently assisting in it's project to create a comic strip based on it's members. I've read the rules thoroughly and don't plan on starting anything. I have a thick turtle shell coated in duck sauce, so the harshest blows and grumpiest internet trolls roll right off my back. And I've taken up enough of your time. I have a tendency to ramble.

  12. I'm currently playing Koko kara Natsu no Innocence, the latest VN by Clochette, a charage company specializing in busty heroines that tends to produce first-class character development and heroine stories. One aspect of Clochette that I've always thought was a bit funny was the obsession with 'shoushika', the current phenomenon in Japan where fewer and fewer young people are getting married and/or having kids. This is touched upon to one degree or another in a lot of VNs, because it is an issue that becomes bigger every year for the Japanese. Why? Because they are dying off faster than their kids are being born, and it has been that way for more than two decades. That in itself wouldn't be that big of a problem normally... falls in population are actually positive when you get to modern population levels. However, the drastic population fall in Japan is such that it is constricting them economically to a degree that scares many of their social scientists, making it into as big a scientific deal there as climate change is here. Clochette has a tendency to insert subtle anti-shoushika propaganda into it throughout its length, actively encouraging the reader to go out and have kids. It is one of the funnier things about it, as most charage gloss over the kids aspect outside of the h-scenes (and then it is only get the perversion levels up). However, themes of continuation across generations, preparing for the next generation, thinking about a future for the kids, etc. are common to all of Clochette's games, to one degree or another. Ironically, it is this 'activist VN-writing' that is what makes their stories frequently so much fun to read, and the message itself is kind of amusing when you think about it (since we aren't Japanese). However, I do find it interesting how VN makers will sometimes use the platform for subtle activism (brainwashing through eroge, lol). If you want another example of VN-activism, Semiramis no Tenbin is a bit more blatant about it, hitting on almost every major piece of 'dirty linen' in Japan's social closet. VNs in general, like all entertainment media, can be used in such ways... and frequently, the best VNs will be activist on one level or another, because passion plus skill tends to bring out much better results than just one or the other. Edit: Namima no Kuni no Faust is another example of somewhat blatant 'VN-activism', and in its case, it is a combined statement, criticism, and speculation on capitalism as a religion. Yes, I say a religion, because to those who worship the mighty dollar, that is precisely what it is. The entire VN is a story about a true free market economic society taken to its logical conclusion. It was a fascinating exercise, and it left a lot of food for thought, without necessarily being completely negative about capitalism in general or even some of its more obvious flaws.

So how does the Oppaizilla go around? Do you switch'er around weekly, monthly or what Regarding red wings: Taco would be proud. btw the tshirt for suit disguise somehow worked, a couple of girls were quite impressed by it. We played some sort of dumbed down marry-fuck-kill, and 6 people opted to kill me (and SUUURPRISINGLY no "marry" or "kiss" requests). Will up pics later edit: No, despite my best efforts I can't think of someone who can organise the purchase of a $450 oppai mousepad where every participant might have paid upwards of $100, the mental image isn't something I could handle

  21. If you mean that picture from r/vns, it's sort of outdated and its authors think some changes should be done. For example, while Baldr Sky is relatively easy, it's also insanely long. Reading the same thing for months when you're a beginner might just kill your enjoyment at some point. Subahibi is fairly easy too but you won't get all you can get out of it if you're only a beginner. Harukuru and Eustia are really classic recommendations though.

  24. Which ones have you completed? Edit: Never mind, you mentioned on previous page. I'm sad you couldn't get into Amane's route. I'm almost done, I finished Sakaki's route last night in between other things, so I'm just down to Sachin's. If I had to describe Amane's route, I'd say it was a well-written absurdity. In fact, I'd say the dialogue between Amane and Kazuki might be the best exchange between two characters in the entire visual novel. But in choosing a circumstance that could actually have the best chance of happening but having it in such a modern time period, it just makes it hard for me to buy into it. Probably because it brings an element that was completely under control of the outside world and it was played out in a way that just doesn't make sense for a modern age, high-tech, high-intelligence society like Japan.

  26. Problem being the heavy moments are heavy as can be. I'd not recommend this if you're looking for something lighthearted. Sure, it's a good read, but it'll leave you feeling like shit. Disagree with this. Its true that a good part of the VN is heavy moments, but they by no means leave you feeling like shit, and the overall experience comes of as light and rewarding. Moments being filled with emotion does not mean they cant be considered a light read. Guess it comes down to personal prefrence, but I think of this novel as a fairly light one.

  27. After a little while, I actually got used to and even liked Komari's voice. Aroe's, on the other hand, just made me want to smash my tablet until the sounds stopped. It sounds like you're around the same place I was in the novel when I started to feel attached to the cast, realized I really didn't want to see terrible things happen to them, and dropped it.

  30. Pretty sure we've had this thread already but (not in order): 1) Dies Irae Seems like a high-ass quality tome of badassery. Sounds great. 2) Maggot Baits I love me some gross, porny story. 3) Steins; Gate 0 (and the rest of the Science Adventure series) I really liked the first Steins; Gate, so it's a no brainer that I want this. VITA VERSION LOCALIZED PLEASE I could've sworn there was more... edit: 12Riven too, damn shame that Lemnisca TL was absorbed into Sekai Project right before finishing it. Hopefully their progress is not jeopardized.

  31. if you´re fine with a what feels heavily modernized cast aka all hail max & grace doing fluffy stuff in icebears wonderland + also dont give afuck about stories somehow fitting their setting, then go for it. otherwise do yourself a favour by deleting everything concerning banshee from the mind of yours and start enjoying the work as its been meant to be read, not even talking about the linguistic deficits... edit. but yes, its been indeed translated already, though i´m baffled to what extend the ones who did it were seemingly offended by anything which could be suspected in reminding readers at its japanese origins

  32. If it's even possible to translate it, Dies Irae is probably the only one out there I'd consider important enough for me to put on a list like this. It's the one VN out there I can say without a doubt will probably make me a better writer if I manage to read it. As much as I'd like for it to get an English translation I'll probably end up having to learn Japanese for it eventually. Especially once I reach the conclusion of this project since a future one I have in mind feels somewhat similar to Dies Irae in terms of tone.
