Peter Payne is in full damage control mode and seems pretty annoyed at the response. But uh, that's a demo you released, dude. Demos are meant to be representative samples of the final product you're releasing. If you wanted people to forgive mistakes, you should have called it a pre-release alpha instead of a demo. There's still the question of how it's going to be ready in time for release when it's still listed as being at 60% editing and moving at 5% a week. There's usually all those other polishing steps after editing, too...6 points

Update: Game is now for sale for 10 USD: http://www.mvizlab.com A little over a year after their Kickstarter got funded, M-vizlab has announced that the Korean visual novel Lucy -The eternity she wished for- will be going live on Steam on February 26th. This game is a complete remake of the 2010 version with new graphics, more CGs, a new ending that was supposed to be in the original version and even full voice acting for Lucy's character in both Japanese and Korean. The creators had a thread on Fuwa while the Kickstarter was running, although they seem to have disappeard off the site since then. I'm making this thread to let people know this title exists because I've been hyped for it ever since I saw it back in 2015. My only concern is really with the translation quality, although since I don't know Korean I won't be able to tell if it's good or not, but what I really want to see is a narrative that flows nicely and has no grammar mistakes or typos. I listened to their preview which has Korean and Japanese voice acting clips. Although I have no clue what the fuck the Korean version said, the Japanese voice acting was not bad at all. What really struck me was how much deeper the Korean voice was, but maybe it was only for that particular scene. Ultimately I'm hoping I won't end up hating the story and that this really does end up feeling sort of like Planterian a bit. Anyone else hyped or was I the only one who remembered this? Will update the thread when there's a Steam page but here's the Greenlight page.5 points

Okay, sure, they can say that, but all they've said previously was that the translation is finished and they're in editing, but they need MUCH more than just editing to fix the translation. And they'll have to do it in 3.5 weeks. Something tells me that they don't have the most sound game plan if they're still trying to contact people who actually know Japanese, desperately asking for help.4 points

Plz Babi, Arabian nights are probably the only good depiction in the west about the arabic country, don't try to even ruin that. Now, we live in a world where a certain kind of person, let's name them the world rulers, uses racism as a way to divide a society into multiple groups, that way, it's easier for them to control the whole masses. Racism isn't natural, we are not born racist, we become racist, because of a wide array of things : the cultural depiction of the ennemy (back in 1940 for example, japanese were evil, nowaday, who don't own a waifu? ) there's also the born of hatred because of certain groups (mostly, the racist minority that makes a conflict escalade) and many, many other reasons why humans are stupid to still use the racial identity. Let's just share one thing, in the ancient world, greeks, romans, persians, carthagenese, weren't judged by their race, because in that time it meant nothing, yes, i think it, the ancient world was less racist and less violent than our actual world.2 points -

Okay, I'll try to answer seriously, so here goes. Provided it was actually physical and not psychological (most issues related with dysfunctions are of the mind), your girlfriend is in for a treat, I don't mean to be crude, but you can let her finish first, and since she'll be grateful for the pleasure she received, the least she could do is keep at it until you're satisfied also. I personally consider it worse to be a premature shooter. It's harder if you're both teens, but for adults every hurdle can be overcome -with work and mutual push.2 points

I just finished Conquest, and here is a few pieces of advice from me. 1. Ditch Felicia as soon as you get Niles and have her married off to someone. She is one of 'those characters' who start out in a master class and only seem useful at first. Unfortunately, for long-range, Niles is better and for stat debuffs+damage, Kaze is even better. 2. Marry your protagonist to someone in the second generation (the kids), Flora, or Shura. If you want all the kids you can get, you have to keep the protagonist from marrying anyone someone else can marry. 3. I really, really suggest you abuse online functions to obtain skills that are otherwise unavailable for your characters. In particular, getting Aptitude (even if it is from hackers) on your protagonist, Azura, and a few other select characters makes it immensely easier to grow useful characters. In addition, I advise getting -faire skills for the weapons your characters specialize in, as that adds 5 damage on top of whatever you were already going to deal. When having kids, the last skill in line always gets inherited, so I suggest you do your Aptitude abuse before you get kids and set it into the last skill slot. Having Aether on your physical attackers is also helpful, lol. 4. Don't bother building relationships in the course of the regular game... do it in castle attacks and the dlc battles. Conquest's story battles get progressively harder toward the late game (the true end boss and the battle at the wall being a serious pain in the butt due to the level setup) 5. Promote your infantry axe-wielders into Dread Fighters using the Dread Scroll (applies to both versions). To be blunt, the axe/club infantry classes in this game suck. Everything kills them and their stat growth is horrible for everything except hp (and mediocre for strength, which is stupid). 6. Use Mozu. I'm going to say it again. Use Mozu. Seriously, if you max her out as Arms Master, she is one of the most powerful characters you can have in the endgame, especially if you take the time out to grab some decent skills from the online portion (such as Lancefaire and Aether). 7. Ditch all characters that begin as a second class other than Xander. I'm serious. Xander is a credible threat even in the endgame, especially if you pair him with someone with high attack power. His range 1-2 sword, Siegfried, makes him really deadly and he has the range of the cavalry classes to work with. However, all the other ones that begin as a master class tend to be somewhat weak/fragile in the last part of the game. 8. The kids rule the battlefield. Because you can basically set them up with the skills you want them to inherit, in addition to whatever skills that come with their base class, some of the kids are a serious powerhouse already... and once you level/promote them, they are even more useful than their parents in most cases (I ditched Niles for Nina immediately). 9. Flying classes are your transport ships. Some of the endgame levels have some really annoying gaps and harsh terrain. I turned every character I could (other than the protagonist and Elsie) into a wyvern or pegasus knight and used them as fast troop transports throughout most of the game. The downside of his strategy is vulnerability to archers... but that is what switching is for (put the other character in the front at the end of the turn. 10. Elsie is your friend, but you need to use every skill-boosting item you can on her. Her magic growth is incredible, but her Skill stat growth is virtually nonexistent, so when you promote her, she will have an immensely powerful magical attack that can't hit half the enemies. The stats you want built up on her are skill, speed, and magic (so she can hit twice accurately on most enemies). Adding on one of the skills that boosts evade and/or critical and she becomes a fairly useful powerhouse healer/mage that won't die quite as easily. 11. Azura rocks... if you get rid of the Songstress class. Make her a Pegasus Knight (her first option) or Great Lord (the item gained from the free DLC allows this). Either way, you can take advantage of her spear skills and natural tendency toward high speed and skill growth. For some reason, most people seem to keep her as a Songstress, but the utility of her ability to give other characters another turn is pretty limited, when you consider how fragile the class is. She was my best flying damage dealer at the end of the game (dealing a total of 46-60 damage with an upgraded Killing Spear if you counted her tendency to almost always attack twice). 12. Beruka is a tank, as long as she doesn't meet any archers. Her defense growth is pretty high (she maxed it by level 12 in my game, as a Wyvern Lord). If you want a flyer who can absorb damage, she is a decent choice, and she deals some pretty good damage herself, using upgraded handaxes (I had a Handaxe+3 on her) and/or Iron or Steel Axes. 13. Kaze is your friend. You want to get every treasure box in this game, but you also don't want any limp pieces of meat on your battlefield. As such, Kaze is going to be a good friend in the late game, letting you ditch the normal archer classes (Niles and Nina) entirely. His kid Midori upgrades to the Merchant class, which is really good as a late-game archer class, and she is also one of the few characters who can upgrade into the Mechanist class. Teaming Kaze up with someone who has a high movement stat will let him open all the chests in the late game, as long as you don't get him killed... and like the Assassin class of earlier FE games, the Master Ninja is a pretty deadly opponent. 14. Last of all... make sure you have your protagonist powerful by the time you get into the late-game (past 20) chapters. I won't spoil it, but there is a battle that can be seriously hard if you haven't upgraded him properly in one of the later chapters.2 points

Arkamondal and one other reacted to Fred the Barber for a topic
I finished Demonbane today. - I think the biggest weakness of it is characters. I found exactly one character interesting (the rest were all very flat and predictable), and I did get rather attached to her. Unfortunately, Ennea is kind of a side character and invariably gets screwed by the plot in every route, so that didn't help any. - The plot was ok, but the routes got rather repetitive due to a lot of reused content. Worse, oftentimes when I was reading an identical scene within a different route, I guess the script had actually been copy-pasted or something, since I couldn't even use the Skip Unread functionality to get through it (while this was not always the case, it probably was the case more than half the times that I tried to use the skip button). And then other scenes weren't actually identical, but had only very minor changes which had so little impact that it wasn't worth the differentiation. - The translation was by and large good, but there was a large swath of one of the three routes which almost seemed like it hadn't been edited - it was very inconsistent (core terminology was suddenly translated differently, for instance), clearly a very raw translation (had a lot of awkward phrasing that looked like Japanese words had been translated directly without care for making the resulting sentence scan well in English), and lastly it had a lot more grammar and spelling errors than the rest of the VN. - Graphics were acceptable but unremarkable, and I thought the music was actually pretty good. - The first time I played it, I really enjoyed the sense of humor throughout the common route. But the later parts of the game are very serious most of the time, so I had frankly almost forgotten that, after slogging through three routes... All in all, I enjoyed it at times and certainly don't regret reading it, but it wasn't great. I probably wouldn't recommend it to anybody else, especially since it's kind of showing its age. I'm undecided about what I'll read next. Part of me doesn't want to embark on anything very long right now since March is just around the corner and will presumably bring another VN reading club title, so I'm inclined to go for something short. But on the other hand I do still have quite a lot of free time until that decision will be made, and I'd like to play something that I think I'll really enjoy, so it might finally be time for me to play Grisaia no Kajitsu.2 points -

First, let me state that 2015 is the flat-out worst year for VNs I've seen out of the last six. There was a lot of upward and downward flow hovering around the line known as 'mediocre' or 'average', but there were - saying it straight out - no kamige and few titles that really stood out from the crowd. It is definitely the worst year since I started VN of the Month, just two years and five months (or so) ago. Unlike in 2013 or 2014, there are not a lot of titles I really even seriously considered to be in the running for this spot, even in a vague sort of way. While there were a few titles that jumped out at me toward the end of the year, I wouldn't have even seriously considered them in either of the two previous years. Heck, my top three titles this year wouldn't have even made it into the top twelve last year or the year before. That is how bad it was. In 2013, the winner was Hapymaher by Purple Soft, its unbelievably high-quality soundtrack, art, presentation, and storytelling barely edging past Komorebi no Nostalgica for the win. While both games could pull both my emotions and intellect into play, Hapymaher's musical presentation gave it an overwhelming edge on that front, making it the winner. 2014 was also a hard choice... but in the end, it came down to Nanairo Reincarnation, the only VN that year that I honestly had no reservations about. Semiramis no Tenbin, Hello Lady, and a few others were runners-up that year (in fact, 2014 was an amazingly good year), but in terms of complete overall quality and appeal, they couldn't match Nanairo. Unfortunately, 2015 just doesn't have any candidates that match those. Silverio Vendetta was immensely fun for me, but it has flaws in its structure that disqualify it, in addition to having way too niche an appeal. While I did praise it, Kyuuketsu Hime no Libra (which - as most of us know - has been Kickstarted for translation) just doesn't make it to the level I demand from VN of the Year Candidates. Sakura no Uta, for all that it does have its moments, has a deeply flawed overall flow and a lot of technical issues with the story presentation. Soreyori no Prologue was an interesting experience, despite being typically Minori (meaning sincerely annoying at several major points), but it wasn't a game I could seriously consider for VN of the Year. Natsuiro Recipe is probably the best 'iyashikei' product made in the last three years, but it isn't something I could honestly consider for raw quality. Koko Kara Natsu no Innocence had the typically high levels of overall quality I associate with Clochette (despite the boob fetish), but again, it wasn't quite there. Hatsuru Koto Naki Mirai Yori was an immensely fun ride, but - like Silverio Vendetta - was both deeply flawed and too niche in appeal to seriously be considered. So what was I left to consider, really? Basically it came down to Kikan Bakumatsu Ibun Last Cavalier, a surprise entry in the last part of the year that tries to replicate, at least in part, the magic of Chuushingura (the VN, not the movie or the various books), except with a lot more bloodshed and in a steampunk version of the political and military conflict surrounding what led up to the Meiji Restoration. Now, at first I was tempted to think that I was jumping to conclusions, because it was so fresh in my mind... so I let almost two months pass before I made my decision, while I went about the task of reviving my memories of various VNs I played during the year. It really was odd what came back to me during that time... Sakura Nikagetsu was one of the more memorable ones (definitely not VN of the Year material, but it was immensely amusing), as was Rakuen no Shugosha (a cheap kinetic utsuge in a total anti/non-anime style), and Sorcery Jokers (the most technically sound of the straight-out chuunige that came out during the year). I honestly had to reject the former two outright, simply because their visuals make them a no-go for ninety percent of the people I know, no matter how much fun or how high quality a psychological experience they might be. Sorcery Jokers was actually a lot harder to dismiss, when it came down to it. In terms of scale, I was really tempted to say it could compete with Kikan Bakumatsu... but if asked which left a better impression, I would have instantly said Kikan Bakumatsu. To be honest, either title would have been a compromise. Neither is as good as any of the best VNs from the last four or five years. They are definitely good, as in being worthy of being listed as VNs to remember. However, I definitely wouldn't have put them up as candidates in another year. For the idiots who kept asking me if I'd say yes to Bansenjin *spits on the floor* even Masada pisses on his own feet sometimes (too much of an attempt to recreate the success of the Shinza series).1 point

Of course, on a hilarious note, the uproar over an Asian not being picked to play the traditionally white role of Iron Fist happened. Frankly, I have no beef either way with comic book characters changing race so long as the actor is good and the writing doesn't suck. Like how I never gave a damn about Nick Fury until Samuel L. Conjueror's Untranslated Visual Novel Tournament [Discussion]
kingdomcome reacted to ChaosRaven for a topic
While I can understand the reasoning, the current trend seems to indicate that popular translated titles seem to have the biggest chance to get a professional retranslation like Clannad or Hoshimem. And the ones with an actual decent translation at least get another editing pass. So i wouldn't necessarily agree to that since popular and highly rated untranslated titles don't exactly seem to have a particular high chance to get a professional translation so far. And wouldn't a translation with some flaws still be better if the alternative would be a definite never? I personally still prefer a half-decent translation of a great title a thousand times over a crap VN with good translation. Because even the best translation can't make a bad title good, while I can still get some fun out of a great title with a flawed translation. But that's just me...1 point -

Think most of these were already mentioned, but they are the ones I think are essential. Skip to next choice option The ability to re-load from a line in the backlog Don't interrupt voices by going to the next un-voiced line Ejaculation counter option Scene recollection for everything, H-scenes in its own category "Skip common route?" Option, (unless all the heroine specific choices are in the common route) Re-play opening movies etc in the menu Sprite viewer, preferably something more advanced like in Kono oozora: flight diary Date display EDIT: Backround H-scene voices, yes! So ... boring when there are none. Flowcharts. Havent played many VNs with them, but they seem really handy.1 point -
So, I finally could give you my direct opinion about the demo Well, it's bad. Everyone told about translation matter, so I will speak about tech things. In brief - bad news. I doubt they would be fixable, unless Jast have source code for the game. As that annoying bug with music clipping happen in all original coded IG games. I do not know, if they have it working on their japanese windows, but on all other windows it got that. Every version have it, starting from Cartagra and goes on till last Flowers instance. I do not know if remedy exists. Jast most likely do not have source code for the game and so would not be able to fix that. Why I think that they do not have sources? Because they used tricks to have it formatted +- ok. Tricks means this (that's from decrypted and decompiled script straight from the demo): [charset num=25600 left=420 top=0] [charset num=25602 left=860 top=0] [effect type=0 time=500] Suoh [v file="suo0561"] Ah, oh... I.... [bgset] [effect type=0 time=500] She asks if I was trying to frame her... I look down as her suspicions dip me in shame. No way, this can't be. Hearing everyone in class whisper about it, I become too ashamed to even be there, and just stare forward, red-faced. Notice the huge amount of spaces. You know why they are here? Because japanese glyphs all have same width, so they needed strings to be same width for english release. I believe even the line break limit is same (it was always 44 bytes/symbols (or 22 glyphs - they are 2byte each) in all IG games... lets count? seems match!). That's also why it got cramped in backlog - there is different limit for symbols. Backlog could be actually patched without sources, if they have someone to hack.1 point

VNs, that made their mark on history, huh? Well, first one that comes to mind is Katawa Shoujo, for giving everyone an easy introduction to the world of VNs. Next would probably be Tsukihime, for it's revolutionary storytelling in the early 2000's. Then lastly, probably Grisaia no Kajitsu for taking the much needed leap ahead for the localized VNs.1 point -
Speaking more generally though, am I the only one who gets the feeling that Peter just doesn't care anymore? It seems like he stopped caring after the Nitro+ project went mostly pear-shaped. It's bizarre how little information a now-casual person like me gets from their twitter accounts, as well. The @JastUSA twitter is active and constantly tweets pics with "funny" captions, but it sucks at relaying actual information big time. I missed the release date of Shiny Days altogether, and that much-maligned "My GF is the President" fandisc was released to so little fanfare... if it was any less prominent, I'd consider it deliberately obscured. With MG and Sekai, you know what happens and when, cause they hype their releases on twitter almost mercilessly. With JAST... unless it's a SUPER BIG DEAL like Steins;Gate, nobody really seems to care. And another thing. While being hush-hush about everything like JAST usually is is not exactly a bad or a good thing as long as the product is fine, it also doesn't inspire much confidence. I like knowing who works on a VN (well, tbh I just find Doddler's attempts to fix things after every major release hugely entertaining, but still) so I can stare sternly at their twitter userpic when things aren't to my satisfaction. Doesn't really work with Peter Payne's account, that. I'd love to say I'm surprised at Flowers' lack of... well, polish is the wrong word... all-around quality, but I'm not.1 point
