Akihabara Virtual Tours
InvertMouse and 5 others reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Tour #1: Open Open Open Open Awhile back, I used to give virtual tours via Google Maps for Akihabara when my TeamSpeak was still semi-active. I had wanted to open up these virtual tours to members again and was wondering if anyone would be interested in receiving one. I am currently opening spots (whether privately or with a group) for those of you who would be interested in seeing the strip and what sorts of cool stuff is located there. The virtual tour (much better than the last one 2 years ago) would cover the following topics: History of Akihabara and its buildings An exploration of the entire district and its surrounding areas, including Ueno and other back roads Actual photographs of the strip as well as a bird's eye view of all the buildings via Google Maps A full detail on every store located there, including a handy map for reference and other material to help you understand all of your shopping needs Stores for all of your otaku hobby needs (visual novels, figurines, anime, light novels, manga, etc.) Restaurants in and around Akiba, including the best maid café and restaurant locations Transportation tips, local meeting spots, and other pertinent information about Japan Bonus: A virtual tour of Ueno park and the history museums/activities there The tour itself lasts around 3-4 hours (although it may be shorter), and I would be able to do them at anytime depending on the signups. Tour times are listed above, however these times can be negotiated if you'd like to adjust it. I can either do the tour on TeamSpeak or Skype (you do not need to use a mic or ever speak if you don't want to), whichever works better for you. When I gave live tours in Japan, a lot of individuals paid me money for a full day Akiba tour. This tour however is completely free of charge, and I promise that by the end of it all, you will feel like a complete expert on how to get around the strip. I have given this tour to a lot of different people, including @Down, @Nyanko, and many more. Ask anyone who has received it, and remember that those tours were 2 years ago; I am much more knowledgeable about the strip now. Let me know if you would be interested!6 points -

Requesting Translations?
LoganW and one other reacted to VirginSmasher for a topic
This thread is pretty pointless. Fan translators won't translate a visual novel that somebody else wants them to and will want to translate something they themselves would like to. Translating something the translator doesn't like will end up in slower progress and probably a weaker translation.2 points -

I can't watch this video, it's fucking dreadful. Read this op-ed written by Epic Games' founder Tim Sweeney instead: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/mar/04/microsoft-monopolise-pc-games-development-epic-games-gears-of-war In essence, Microsoft's practices are anti-competitive by nature and UWP is an initiative that's aiming to strong-arm the other platforms out of the PC space. Unfortunately for them, it's destined to fail. Consumers and business owners both have an option, and they'll choose the open platform they've been used to all this time instead of MS's overly-restrictive closed platform. As for them "ruining" or "monopolizing" PC gaming, as I said we still have an option. We can just not use UWP. Them keeping new windows features exclusive to their closed platform is anti-competitive, but we can still keep playing games and using apps the way we have been on PC for over 20 years. Microsoft is afraid of going too far, in fear of another antitrust suit. Very, very few developers will release games exclusive to the Windows 10 app store, mostly just MS themselves.2 points -

The end of the second season is my favorite ending to any series because it so perfectly nailed the vibe you're describing.1 point -

XReaper reacted to Suzu Fanatic for a topic
You know what it really down to? Key fans versus TM fans. (yes, I know WA2 isn't by Key) That aside, I'll be firmly in the Mahoya camp despite generally liking both styles. There's already enough drama VNs out there, and not enough of Nasu's style (I'd call it Chuuni, but that's not really accurate - at least when it comes to Mahoyo).1 point -
Just a heads up, translators will very rarely just pick up a translation project because someone asked them too. A fan translation takes a long time and a great deal of effort, and it's something people usually do because they honestly want the game translated for others to enjoy. It is rarely something they do just because a person told them to. They are much more likely to pick up something that motivates them on a personal level.1 point

I think that Guilty Crown has one of those it's a tad sad yes, but still satisfying nontheless Another one is Sakurasou Pet na Kanojo1 point -
I just finished Birthright. It was amazing, and although it does kind of feel like its own game, I'm still going to get Conquest (and also the third version when it's out) for sure! It's kind of hard to talk about my experience with Birthright without spoiling too much about it. All I'll say is that it was on par with Awakening, and knowing that Conquest is better than Birthright, I'm sure it'll be as good or better~1 point

Visual novels with strong female routes, or older female or sister type routes
Strike105X reacted to ittaku for a topic
No. They're set in the same universe but are virtually unrelated and To Heart 2 is a standalone story and much better. If you want a teacher route, there's 2 in Amorous Professor Cherry. This game also has an official localisation, whereas To Heart 2 is my personal translation project and while the translation is complete, the editing is still in beta so make sure you get the latest beta patch and accept it will still be a little rough in places.1 point -

Hows this @DarkZedge? As Virgin was unable to contain his lust for the wide eyed innocent Dergonu, he took him away to his private lodge so he could perform unspeakable acts upon Dergonu's soft, delicate body. Dergonu: "No Virgin. Get a hold of yourself. I love yuri's not yaoi." Virgin heard Dergonu's yelling but could only hear the deafening lust coming from his libido. Virgin: "It's too late Dergonu. First I shall take your innocence. Then I shall take your virginity! Dergonu: "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" its currently a work in progress.1 point -

This used to be common - most VNs used to use some variety of a "points" system, where making choices in the common route added (or subtracted) points for the heroines. Then, at the end of the common route, there would be a branch, and the player would follow whichever heroine had the most points. In recent years, there's been a trend towards making each choice matter more, both for a more solid story, and because there has always been a segment of the VN fanbase that complained when choices didn't seem to do much. But it's still around.1 point

I only got the true end so far (there's still half of the achievements to get, which presumably include other ends) and that took me about 3 or 4 hours at a moderate reading speed. It's not super short like Planetarian, but it's also not 10 hours long. I'll try and complete everything tomorrow but I'd say the game probably amounts to a total of 5 or 6 hours of reading at most.1 point

Bloody Chronicles [Demo/Indiegogo]
IGRASILSTUDIO reacted to Chihiro for a topic
I say you could be less harsh, I did not say you had to sugarcoat your words. My concerns about your initial feedback was that you pinpointed only the negative aspects that you find grating, and by doing that made it less constructive and helpful. I know bringing up the VAs being in your project can be viewed as unrelated, but I just think that you should be mindful of how you word things, even when it's just online. You never know if Skyler or any of the other VAs might view this site and be a bit hurt by what you said. They are professionals, so they will probably take it as as a grain of salt and move on, strive to work it it. Nevertheless, just be more considerate when expressing your opinions, no matter how subjective they are. Now, I see your comment here as being more useful, and I understand them to a certain degree. I may not agree with them, but I get your points. I don't believe Aki is basically an airhead. She was portrayed as a very outspoken, happy, albeit a bit clueless. Overall, an innocent girl, and that is how I see her VA portraying her in the demo. Anyhow, I thought the voices were definitely one of the highlights of the game. =) I don't think you should omit 3rd person view. I personally find 1st person writing more restrictive. Everything is written how the main character sees things, and other characters personalities and actions are also diminished/watered down in the process. Anyhow, just stating my point. I believe you guys are doing a great job and will deliver an awesome game in the end. I am sorry. I only suggested leaving Indiegogo funding on at the same time because I saw The Letter development team (and others) did that and thought it might help. But I agree; doing that will reflect badly on the team and project. I look forward to the kick-starter!1 point -
Probably true. Same it's movies and music - only good and memorable ones are getting their own life years after. 60s, 80s etc had a tons of shitty music, and we, as humanity just forgot about them. So probably the same with VNs. But we should ask an expert. @Tyrosyn You read a lot of old stuff, right?1 point
-
I don't want to hype people up TOO much and then disappoint them, but I think the game definitely provides an overall positive experience, so look forward to that at least. I'd love to discuss the game's ending but it seems most people here haven't finished it so I'll hold off for now1 point

I didn't know there was such a thing as hipsters for vns *tips his fedora* I enjoy something good, it doesnt matter if it's old or new, but mostly I like old things because I find in those types of novels things that I really enjoy, for example the death of the main heroine, a murder within a few minutes, etc etc, things that by today standards are not acceptable to do (at least no in general), you have your moege/charage with pretty characters, talking about food, and doing pretty much anything meh, it seems that having pretty art is more important than having a good story, maybe it was the same back then and I'm only playing the obscure and good stuff1 point

There's a very simple way to determine whether you're a hipster or not. You just have to ask yourself a single question: Q: Do you wear a fedora?1 point -
Being a hipster includes pretentiousness. For example: not liking mainstream, because it's popular. I'm reading mainly old and obscure stuff and dislike most mainstream VNs. But I am not a hipster. I just have good taste. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯1 point

OMIGAWSH. So much room for speculation! There's some trees, and there's a school hallway, and some sort of standard interior of a Japanese home, and the outline of a girl. Who knows what they might have in store for us? Could there be cute girls who each fit into a particular gimmick, but not strictly so? Could there be certain sexual scenarios that accommodate to certain dispositions of the viewer, but that aren't too bold? Could there be virtually useless technical features intended to set the game apart from its competitors? Yuzusoft's got us on the edge of our seats as always!1 point -

[Active] Fuwa Original Mascot Character Suggestion Thread
Fred the Barber reacted to Nosebleed for a topic
The human + animal combination seems like it could be a really fun and cute idea as long as you can come up with the right combination of elements. I also think a male and a female could be an interesting combo, so long as they both fit in one theme. If you go with a duo, I think they should kinda have an "opposite" feel to them, which in turn would make them complement each other really well (think with magnets!). E.g: If you made this really cheerful looking character, the counterpart should be a gloomy looking character Also, just one personal suggestion, if you kinda "chibify" it, you wouldn't have to worry so much about whether or not they look "too loli" or "too sexual". Striving for a more cartooney feel is probably advantageous here. If you look at the image Kiriririri posted, it kind of illustrates how you can have a cute character without any other kind of "sexual features", meaning the emphasis is on the face and the overall cuteness of it.1 point -

That's precisely what I don't want to experience, so thanks for the warning. Nooooooooo Chaos;Child lost As for Mahoyo's win I think it's totally fine for TM fans to vote. My only concern is that this was probably the first time half of them came to know about it. Well I was fine with either of Mahoyo or Eustia winning so it's fine. As for Mahoyo vs WA2, I'm rooting for Mahoyo. It's mostly got to do with the fact that I don't have much hype for WA2, well the only thing I do know about it is that it's highly rated on vndb and egs.
