  1. I checked with FuwAccounting, and it appears that I have, indeed, made the prerequisite amount of drivel posts to qualify for the 500 mark. As such, tradition dictates that this thread be borne into the world. Being an old man (rivaling @Rookefor the title of Geezer) I clearly love tradition. First off, if I don't mention you specifically, don't take it personally. I don't dislike anyone here and your non-mention is likely due to my receding memory. Or you just didn't make enough of an impression. It's almost the same. (Those are totally not the same.) Secondly, this thread is here for you to roast me, ask me questions, tease me, taunt me, etc. Anyhow... checking out the boards here has become something I look forward to daily, as you get older it gets even harder finding people in the surrounding zip codes who share your interests. The internet is great because it allows me access to you guys and gals. For that, I thank you for your continued existence. @CeruleanGamer- thanks for letting me copy/modify your posts when I was feeling unoriginal... or at the very least not killing me over the interwebs for it. @Flutterz- I believe you were the only one to actually email me when I offered way back in the day. And you continue to listen to me while about FGO gacha. I still say you should shave your head and grow a goatee. @OriginalRen- I enjoyed the couple times you live-fed the new posters and stuff you ordered. Still waiting on the poster I bought from you. Not mad. @Kaguya- Hey, you put up with me being an idiot, so you should at least get mentioned. @Jade,@Rose, @Maxel, @Mugi- The FGO thread crew that deal with me the most besides Flutterz. @12kami- who would keep my silliness alive. There's a lot more... I'll make a part two later. Or inquire inside. Anyways, thanks for helping me get through the day.

  2. The fair fight you call for isn't gonna happen because in order to be fair both versions would need to have an equal amount of marketing, and AA versions go to Steam so they have an overwhelming advantage. The reason why AO versions have modest sales at best is because information about them only circulates within certain communities that, in total, amounts to a vanishingly small pool of buyers compared with the Steam market and the gaming market at large. The only ways to get out of that slowly expanding but still fairly small group is to either go to Steam, which an AO version can't do, or exist in the larger gaming press, which so far has superbly ignored visual novels, especially AO ones. What Mangagamer shows though, is that it's very possible to make profit out of AO titles that only sell to a niche audience. Mangagamer doesn't sell a lot but sells at a decently high price and enough to keep running, whereas Steam dictates a race to the ever-smaller prices which completely deregulates normal price practices and perceptions and probably endanger those who can't hope to sell billions of copies even at a small price. In other words Sekai Project should probably be able to make some profit out of AO versions. Whether they want to or not is up to their strategic choices. But it's not comparable with selling AA versions anyway, the market's fundamentally different.

    No romance plot

I actually think "romance" is an essential part of Higurashi. And I don't think it's strange that nearly every Visual Novel has some romance in it. After all, they are stories about humans and humans seldom work without emotions like affection for each other.

  4. I've waited almost a year for this. Finally. I'm sure it'll be glorious. Now then. This year, I'll celebrate Easter by sharing my genuine and honest opinion of many Fuwanovel members. Mostly those I happen to remember. You can also request it yourself if I don't mention you by default. A fair warning, whilst I don't often think ill of someone, there are some I might. A thousand apologies. Besides that, I also have a little game (some of you may remember it, I tried it our last year, but due to circumstances, was unable to finish it). I've updated it a little (though most characters are still out of date), and this time I do have the solutions! If you've been pinged in this post, you're probably in there, unless you aren't. Can you find yourself? Each image represents a member (or two). Can you guess them all? GUESS WHO: Anything you say about this must be in spoilers. Many things can be seen as clues, so I'm adamant about this. Besides that, onwards to opinions. These are in a brainstorm thoughtspill format. Not coherent. Too bad. For you. OBJECTIVE OPINIONS OF FUWANOVEL PLEBS: Most of those people are in the egg. Some people in the egg aren't there. This all said, here's the solution, but be sure to at least try first. Even though some are pretty much impossible to guess. EGG SOLUTION: Now I'm off to have lunch and realise I forgot something really important. Happy Easter, people!

    Dracu-Riot!

One Mr. Insemination, Lord of Escalator Subs or something of that nature, exhibited great progress in his undertaking of this translation (which some sources that I cannot name say went from Chinese to English), and in a spree of unlimited magnanimity, even went so far as to bestow upon us the partial patch of which you spoke. Thereafter he endeavored to translate some other routes, and, as it would appear, completed all but that of one Mr. Miu. Presumably, Mr. Insemination then came to the prompt realization that Mr. Miu does, in fact, hold fascist inclinations, and thus decided that it would act against the interest of his people to disseminate this particular aspect of the production. However, the other routes remained complete according to the progress page, and after a period of prolonged unrest, he announced that these would be made available to the public on one Mr. April 1st of 2016, in the year of our one Mr. Lord Jesus. Thus, it would seem that you have only a few days to wait to see whether the truth of his proclamation shall manifest itself.

  7. That doesn't add up, you got an order of magnitude wrong here. Most people read between 150 and 400 words per minute. 10 000 words should take you between 25 minutes and an hour. Even an unskilled reader wouldn't be much slower. To give a figure easy to picture, an average book in english would have around 400 words per pages (around 40 lines with an average of 10 words per lines). That of course varies a lot depending on font, language, format, etc but let's settle with 400, 10 000 words make a 25 page "book". The 40 000 words limit Rooke mentioned would make 100 pages, which sounds reasonable. A 10 hour long VN is more likely to be, for the "average" reader (which is only a statistical entity, the dispersion is large), the equivalent of a 150 000 words / 375 pages novel. Visual novels are REALLY long. Of course the comparison is not very good, because I'm using a lot of averages and assumptions, the method of delivering the text is different, etc...

  9. So I finished G-senjou no Maou after a pretty long time reading it. (No real spoilers here, but just in case I'll put it in a spoiler tag:) Anyways, now that I'm done with this I will take a small break from long titles and wait for Tokyo Babel to come out. Currently reading Lucy - The eternity she wished for. Haven't gotten far, but I am really enjoying it.

  15. The writing is about on par with your average fan translation. Maybe a bit better? Well, the fruitbat guys were all fan translators and not super spectacular ones at that. "Thankfully" I've grown used to this level of English. The VN actually does seem pretty interesting and this is the type of game that will fly under a lot of people's radar. There's not much fervor for doujin all-ages chuuni games. The biggest problem it will run into is that it's releasing on the same day as Tokyo Babel. Ouch.

  17. That sounds like a great idea! In other to be completely fair I've made a list of every single member on this website and numbered them. Next, I've brought up a random number generator to decide who to get a gift for. As it turns out, my name came out! Entirely randomly and fairly. Guess I'll have to buy myself a gift them. Oh, of course I count.! I used a random number generator and I'm a person on the internet. That absolutely makes me a "random person on the internet". Ah, curse my short attention span! I didn't get to read the bolded statement before buying myself a gift. I guess it's too late now. As for those extra years, feel free to have them! I always give to the needy, and you clearly look like you need as many extra years as you can get, at this point. I won't elaborate too much, but I'm mostly referring to how Sekai, to the most part, isn't looking to cater to the Eroge Fanbase at all. They're trying to get the steam crowd, a perfectly valid target, and most of those care not for H-Scenes (and would actually be repulsed by them... probably, I don't really know). This present Fuwa loves their H-Scenes. How dare Sekai put the H-Scenes on the backburner?! How dare they make an All-Ages version for those who prefer one?! In a different topic, how dare they use kickstarter as a method to gauge interest! Those bastards who keep reinvesting their money and then making kickstarters. They must be filthy rich by now, greedy rascals. I'm exaggerating, of course. Even from my point of view I think Sekai's business decisions are not always sound, but I'm wholly against how everyone around here seems to hate on them or their kickstarters. Nobody's managed to convince me they truly are evil incarnate yet. I just think it's too easy convincing me. Every argument I get into I find myself agreeing to the other side's point of view or just saying "Well, that's subjective, so I can't really deny it.". I never get anywhere when I argue. I will keep it in mind that I should maybe think about getting into an argument sometime, although I wouldn't hold my breath. Unlike you, I don't go on the internet in scholarly pursuit of knowledge or enlightenment.

  19. The White World [1.0] Hey there! GENERAL: We are an Israeli team that have been working on this visual novel for more than a year. The White World was a voluntary project that people worked on in their spare time, between studying and serving the country. It was a FREE ONLINE visual novel you can play in any device and any platform with a browser of the last decade. OFFLINE VERSION is the only option now! (still browser based.) This version was voluntarily translated so if you find typos or bugs - please report to me on a private message with the content of the message shown when pressing F2. DO MIND THIS: Granted we didn't make it very Japanese but Otaku references exist to expose and reflect it's genre. This is the very first version of the VN and so it is the result of the project as it ended. So indeed some things could go better but I can promise you we did it whole heartedly and with almost zero budget (the only budget went into hosting it). Still, please look at it as a finished product with it's own level of authenticity rather then some budgeted project. It is an indie project, and the first to have done that in our country and language. Hope you enjoy =) PLAY: >OFFLINE VERSION<

  20. Hello I'm rains. Now that my life has stabilized, I'm looking to refresh my Japanese basics by tutoring one person basic grammar over skype. I will do this for free (of course) though I cannot guarantee that I'm going to be a super good tutor. I have finished tutoring two people awhile back: Nosebleed and Grieviious (Keaton). You can ask them for feedback. Details: I'll be following this book ---- Japanese Sentence Patterns for Effective Communication. But I also reference Kanzen Master N4 and Taekim for topics. I will ONLY cover BASIC Japanese grammar. I won't be covering vocabulary, kanji, listening or speaking. The aim is for you to be able to get a good grasp of how Japanese sentences work and what to look for. Overall goal is for you to start being able to understand sentences in a Japanese Visual Novel. I personally want this to only last around 4-6 months (well I just don't want it to drag). I'm mainly looking for beginners and people who are into VNs. I personally learned Japanese to be able to read VNs and I've read them in Japanese, watched animes raw, and played games raw. I want to share the experience around. Requirements: Be passionate and motivated to learn the language. Have skype Know basic English grammar terms like "noun / verb / adjective / adverb / direct object" since I use that to explain stuff. Be able to do skype sessions (of around an hour maybe?) at a minimum of once or twice a week. Be able to coordinate with my schedule. I work full time on Central US time hours, and mostly free at early evenings CST (6-10 pm). You need at least to be able to read hiragana and katakana. Basic kanji knowledge is preferred. Process for selection: I will personally choose you. Either post on this thread or PM me. I mainly want to see what you're planning to do with the knowledge and your plans with the Japanese knowledge. Since we're in a VN forum, I obviously want to see people interested in reading VNs / eroges or translating later on. Add whatever you think is interesting. P.S. For the people who know, I still have my youtube series on hold. I should be getting back to it soon.

  21. That was JAST USA's Japanese parent company, which went bankrupt a few years after JAST USA was established. I'm sure that had little or nothing to do with JAST USA's operations, especially since it's not at all uncommon for Japanese companies to look at English markets as a desperate remedial measure in times of financial trouble.

  22. This would be very bad for people like me that live in countries where the dollar is expensive, honestly the regional pricing of Steam is almost a bless for me. If I had to buy in dollar the price of Nekopara would be enough to buy Grisaia on Steam, if I had to buy in dollar the price of Grisaia would be enough to buy two copies of Clannad on Steam. With patches the price is significantly low what is already something more affordable.

  23. A visual novel isn't exactly the best medium for action, simply because of the lack of 'motion'. It's still possible, but you have to be very good at it. From the titles I played, only MuvLuv Alternate and Fate/Stay Night managed to impress me with their action scenes. The bridge fight in Fate/Hollow Ataraxia in particular was breath taking. But considering that even Ayakashibito had already too much action for my taste, I'm not really convinced that I will enjoy this. I'm therefore considering to await the overall reaction on the title first before I decide to buy it.

  33. Had a quick read of the source code out of curiosity. Some tips: In ChangeLine(), the check should be newLine >= script.size(), not just >. You can do str == "literal" instead of str == std::string("literal"). For the various .txt files, why not read the file until the end instead of requiring the author to write the number of lines on the first line? Instead of having .txt files listing names of files and folders (e.g. characters), why not just scan the folders? Last but not least, why no unicode support? Also, is it really alright for you to place copyrighted artwork of a commercial game on Github?

  34. I will wait for the offline version because I hate reading through my browser. The little I read was good, I don't mind the grammar mistakes xD
    1 point
  35. Yeah, the script commits several writing faux pas; for example, stop using "start" and just leave the verb by itself. Filler words are fine in conversation but serve only to weaken your writing and fill it with pointless information. But the game does look interesting and I'm already used to less than stellar writing in my Japanese VN translations (sadly), so I'll still give it a look.

  38. Steam releases make more money. Until the companies are proven otherwise buy everyone buying 18+ only, they will release all ages versions on steam. Plain and simple. I'm confident its a case of a silent majority that doesn't care about ero content being cut with the vocal minority being the ones that do.

  46. ^ Pretty much. Thing is: I don't post a lot, I'll give you that. When I do it's mostly silly stuff or in one of the chatter threads, but mostly because I don't really have anything to contribute to one of the core sub-forums or threads. I don't develop VNs (yet), and I've read pretty much everything I wanted to read (which is not a whole lot), so there's nothing for me to talk about. I like spending time with the community members, and opt not to moderate too heavily, because that's what the moderators are there for, right? Wrong. If I went around swinging the ban-hammer I might as well call it Lucille (props to whoever gets the reference), because thing's turn bad, people used to and feel entitled to the fluffiness that is the normal moderation flow; You can get away with pretty much anything, as long as you don't bitch about it and tone it down. That's when I like to make an appearance, to remind each and one of us that some things are not okay, and while the moderating team is tripping over their own feet trying to figure out how to go about a particular issue without offending anyone, I just do. I'm here to remind people that there are other, very real people sitting in front of their computers, that you think you can talk down and feel bad about whatever happened to make you so angry that you'd probably think twice about in your everyday life to throw a tantrum like that. People would call that out, and rightfully so. I'm the priviledge check that comes ringing bells, and reminds people that some things are just not okay, and shouldn't be tolerated. When I do, things have usually gone way past sour already, so lately I've been trying to keep an eye on a few things, topics and certain people. Which is not favoritism or persecution, but just the plain reality: Some people will get people on edge, no matter what they do. I'm definitely one of them, which is why I tend to stay in the background. We're here thanks to the creators and the people who built this site, and I think it's disrespectful to feel entitled about any of it - without them, nothing would be here. Without interested and motivated people we'd probably still be torrenting VNs left and right, instead of seeing some actual quality being put out, both from established companies and indie groups. I'm fighting for them, and I think everyone who's dealt with me in the past can confirm that I do so consistently - heck, I even fought my then-girlfriend back in the day when shit hit the fan over one of the very, very rare bans, that I of all people thought was uncalled for. Anyways, and that's why I wanted bitfatround0 to back off of OriginalRen: The guy's fighting the good fight, no matter what happened to any of the files. Back off, and leave the guy be, enjoy your time on these forums or reddit, but god damn people, stop it with the entitlement. I know it's rough waiting on something you're really interested in, but it's not your place to bitch about any or no progress being made, unless it's your own project, and then you're in charge, so take matters into your own two hands. With that said, peace.
