  1. Bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Just finished Chapter 1, the ending was hype I saw some people dis Okarin but I love him, and literally every other character that may or may not matter. Kurisu-tina, Ruka, Mayushii, Daru, Ferin, Moeka, love them. The banter between characters is hilarious, the art design is AMAZING, I love the VA's, and the story is really getting me pumped up. Crazy shit going down, super duper excited to see what is to come

  2. Hello everyone, have you seen the beta site already? http://beta.fuwanovel.net/ Thank you for noticing, but there's also one other theme available right now through the theme picker (or this link: http://beta.fuwanovel.net/?theme=summer-sky). Having the Oldschool Cool theme as the default was intentional in order not to alieante users too much, but the new theme system allows to change the site up completely, and drastically, so please look forward to it. It's currently undergoing another rewrite (feature-par right now, so I'm finally adding new stuff), but the "Games" section will be disabled until we've figured out the direction we're going in with the VN information we want to display. For that reason I need one, or multiple banners, like these old ones focusing on "featured" releases: Ideally we'd have multiple of them, and I'd really like to have multiple just to point to the different parts of the site: Blog, Forums, Reviews(, optional: TL Moon) in a flashy manner. The required dimensions for this display are 1024px by 354px, but I won't limit your creativity here, so please go crazy if you want to make them full-screen width. Keeping the aspect ratio would be ideal, though. So please, get those creative juices going, so we can push for a final, first release of the new site, so we can push the direction of the site for the immediate, and obviously long-term, future!

It's okay everyone, if Insem trolls the entire world again we can all rest assured knowing that a quality TL formed out of pure hate for selling the game to Sekai Project without any form of Atlas/Google translate will be released for Aokana on April 20th in 5 (that's right 5!) different languages. That's faster than any professionally hired translator I have ever seen in my entire life, let alone a translator of 5 different languages. What an incredible team! :')

  4. Update: IT'S OUT! From the devs that brought us the best visual novel ever, HuniePop, comes a new spin-off game titled HunieCam Studio where, instead of dating a bunch of girls, you put them on the internet and make loads of money. We've been commenting on this new game over at the HuniePop discussion thread but I think it's time we make a proper discussion thread with the release date for the game approaching. Here's the final release trailer if you haven't seen it yet: The final retail price will be $6.99 Follow the devs on twitter for future updates As a massive fan of HuniePop, I'm still torn on whether or not this game is going to be great, but I'm definitely going to buy it on launch and see what it's all about. I'm mostly excited to be with best grill Audrey once again as well as meet all the new girls they've decided to add. My hopes for the game are certainly placed on the writing and whether or not they can bring back the fun vibe HuniePop had. The devs got a lot of flack for the massive change in art direction and game style in general, but I think their forte is in making fun games, so I'd rather wait and see what they come up with with this one. I also don't dislike the new artstyle and I think they polished it more than enough. Is anybody else excited for the game or is it just me?

  5. Oh? Let's talk Seinarukana then - is that why for years, Moogy and co. were going around saying 'the translation's been complete for ages, who know why the game hasn't been released or what they're doing'? It's only recently we found out they wanted a Steam release. Then there was that game which was stuck at 99% progress, it's "being inserted" for about a year. Was it Yumina? I can't remember. And who knows what's going on with half their Nitro+ stuff, like Sumaga. The delay for Root Double is less than a month, which is pretty small considering most delays in the game dev world, and miniscule compared with JAST. Communication could be better, but the wait is small enough that it should be bearable either way. If it gets pushed back to December, then again to next March then ...

  6. Hello everyone at Fuwanovel! Just sharing my current project since it might interest you guys and gals; an open-source C++ VN engine and a port of Snow Sakura to go with it! It's not going to be the world's best VN engine, but it's completely open-source so anyone can contribute/modify it as they see fit! The Snow Sakura port can be watched from the Github page: https://github.com/Slynchy/SnowSakuraCPP/ The engine itself can be watched from the Github page: https://github.com/Slynchy/March22/ And here's a video showing its basic VN capabilities, since a picture tells a thousand words! I'd also like to shoehorn in a thank you to Kelebek1 for helping decompile the Snow Sakura scripts into a more usable format, and frc_ for giving some tips to improve the code If you also have anything to contribute- be it feedback, criticism, code, etc.- then please use Github or post here I welcome it!

  7. For those not getting or reading the updates, the reason for the delay is quite readily apparent. You can put that "the translation has been done for months" gun down, now, because it's pretty clear from past updates that the work for Steam integration was the last thing they were working on, and it's probably what took more time than they projected, leading to the delay. Regista probably significantly underestimated the amount of time needed for the various aspects of their Steam integration dev and testing, since they haven't done it before - this is an extremely common occurrence in any flavor of software engineering. I do find it annoying that Sekai Project stated a March release and then didn't communicate a delay until the end of the month - maximum transparency in communication and somewhat-cushioned estimates are the best way to avoid getting into trouble with delays. Generally, people don't actually mind these kinds of small delays very much, as long as you give advance warning of the delay, can clearly explain why the project was delayed, and can give a confident projection for when it can be expected. I actually don't even mind the "lots of things happened" kind of explanation, since I can read between the lines of the other updates, but they should work on improving the other two aspects (because delays will continue to happen; that's just how software is). Also, from the sounds of the Kickstarter update email, Regista went kind of dark on them for the last few weeks, but I think that's an unfair dodge on their part - I still hold SP responsible for not communicating better. As the publisher, they're responsible for polling status from Regista, minding the release timeline, and keeping people updated, and I do think they dropped the ball. But that said, it's far from a big deal, and like others have pointed out, they're still doing a vastly better job than a particular competitor of theirs (though, honestly, JAST USA is more of a joke than a competitor, at this point).

  9. I played varsity golf in high school and JV tennis as well. I haven't swung the clubs or my racket in ages. If my dad and brothers-in-law lived near me I'd probably still golf. But I know literally no one in Tallahassee to play tennis with. Just a side effect of being older and moving to a place you know nobody and are naturally introverted. Before I feel sad for you, I'll need you to confirm your age. If it's less than 35 I will post angrily about "Manning up" and "Stop whining and get your ass in the game" along with other similar phrase to both bolster your confidence and break your self-esteem. If it's over 35... I'll see about gifting you a copy of a Japanese porn game. If she's an adult she's not a loli - just a flat.

  10. The word Sakura is ruined for me now. I legit thought you were porting a Winged Cloud Sakura game for some reason and was going to put up a stupid "I never ask for this" meme. Anyway, good luck with your project! Getting some of these VNs to run better for everyone is never a bad thing

I have also updated the other platforms to version 1.2 (1.1 died on the way, rest in peace). I fixed some minor bugs and typos so everything should be nicer. Thanks everyone for your support and I hope you enjoy reading the novel!

If he releases the scripts and they're actually all translated minus Miu's route, I swear I'll temporarily drop my project and translate it just so we can put an end to this meme. Though if this happens I'm sure there'll be many people doing the same thing, in which case fuck that.

  14. While I don't buy into most of the core concepts that this article relies upon (and seems to assume are true without providing support), I can certainly relate to this feeling it describes as 'elevation'. Any anime with parents who trust or treat their children gently tends to make my heart metaphorically smile, be the reason Freudian or not. Sawako's parents in Kimi ni Todoke and Nagisa's parents in Clannad had that effect on me. A bit more than a year ago my sister had a child and had I not been inspired by characters like the ones I mentioned, I don't think I would've been able to build the resolve to be the uncle I want to be. Hopefully I can be an emotional support when things are dark and cheer on when everything is well.

  16. Why are you talking about JAST? If someone honestly expects them to release a game reasonably-timed they only have themselves to blame. In the same respect I don't know why people are mad about this. The fact that the month went on without them announcing a set release date should've been a pretty big indicator that it wouldn't release on time.

  20. I actually have already played Canvas 2 and I kind of liked it but I didn't follow a guide so I got a bad ending; kinda spoiled it. Going to use a guide this time though While this is absolutely true, I am actually mainly making this project as a learning exercise in multi-platform deployment capabilities and engine development/organisation, as well as an experiment into finite state machine driven UI programming I just happen to also be a firm believer that everything should be open-source which is why I share my work on Github! With regards to benefits of this engine over others? Not many; one large component is keeping it lightweight in terms of file size (using WebP instead of uncompressed 32-bit BMP), code complexity (the main game loop is approximately 20 lines long; the rest is handled by the engine) and being easily modifiable. While that last point is not the case at the moment due to lack of code comments/documentation, I will be providing industry-standard Doxygen comments in the final version. I suppose another benefit to this engine is the small-to-non-existent gap between author and programmer; the scripting language is extremely lightweight and easy to pick up on

  23. I don't know, I quite like the cartoonish feel. I think it works even better because the goal of the game here isn't to have you date the girls specifically but rather have you play with them, so they aren't exactly designed to look like your 2D waifus like HuniePop was designed for. The game won't even have an 18+ release, which solidifes the fact it's not designed to be your fap material even more. But I understand the art change does not bode well with fans of HuniePop overall, it took me a while to get used to it at first as well. I'm happy I got used to it at least and I think it looks kinda cute and sexy at the same time.

  24. @KeadRei I knew it wouldn't be long before Gurren Lagaan got mentioned! Kamina's bombast definitely qualifies for me as something quite inspiring. For me, it's a great example of the kind of leadership described by Iskandar in @babiker's signature: a person who displays behaviour in the extremes lends himself to be followed as a role-model, because he is a tangible standard people can strive for: a manifestation of what their dreams are in reality, an example of what they COULD be, if they committed themselves enough! Bonus Omake for Gurren Lagaan fans: Oh, make no mistake, she might not have understood it fully, but she definitely knew what she was talking about. The phenomenon of transference is accepted as a well-documented fact. Happiness is definitely contagious - but be warned that negative emotions are as well!

  29. @Funyarinpa Thanks for the info. I think it's obviously very vital information and I think DavidB should tell us here, although he might too busy to announce it here here. @kingdomcome I think I'll quote the latest announcement from Root Double kickstarter below. It was at March 10. I think that's all the info we could got about Regista activity here (I didn't checked NeoGAF), and maybe Regista was quite busy (I didn't know about technical term like cloud save and overlay for gaming programming). And in the same announcement Sekai said that they still hardworking to bring translated Root Double release here.

  30. Everyone keeps saying "learn Japanese" and I am getting really fed it with that statement. Not everyone has the time or the ability to learn another language so can you just chill out with that? I agree however, that harassing this guy is not right. This thread has gotten way off topic tho.

  31. In tanks and doujinshi the censorship is different, that's where you'll find all the black bars and white outs (in digital manga, mosaics are more common and are sometimes even applied over the already existing black bars) but magazines like Comic LO implement the type of censorship i'm talking about. As far as nukige goes, what I think works best is when the genitals are selected carefully and the mosaics are only applied to the necessary areas and don't overflow into the background, this way you can still make out the shape and it doesn't feel too intrusive. It also depends on the mosaic size, if they're too big it looks like shit regardless.

  32. From the manga I've read, a lot of it seems to be the infamous black line, or the 'region' is totally whited out. I doubt that the latter would work particularly well in the glorious technicolour of visual novels, so blacklining that shit would have been what I've have said. Yours is definitely a better idea though. As for dick drawing (something I'm so pleased I've been able to say on a forum ) and censorship... It's weird, but whenever I see an uncensored scene in a VN nowadays, it normally features me hiding behind a chair and throwing gifts of appeasement to the noonie goods is quite jarring, to be honest. It sounds daft, but for myself the censorship is an important part of the experience.

  34. That scene near the ending Just makes me all emotional. and to me it really emphasises on what a difference a good voice actor makes. Miyano Mamoru owns his role as Okabe in this VN. More VNs should learn from this and voice their protagonists. Yes I know that is not very likely to happen any time soon for a variety of reasons but I stick by it. It's okay. Little Busters! and Steins;Gate are at the top of my list too. Shh... Don't tell anyone.

  45. I think you're right about that and I take my statement back since it's simply to general. I've read lots of books in my younger years with action scenes too (god that makes me sound old), like BattleTech, Shadowrun, etc. So it works if they really take a narrative writing style to describes a scene. For example: "He carefully hid behind a small hill following the movements of his enemy. Then after a short moment of hesitation he made his decision and shot his heavy laser targeting the right leg with weaker armor of his opponent." Unfortunately, what I often see in VN's instead is some kind of comic book approach. The 'narration' in those cases then looks more like "Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeee!!!" followed by five minutes of cling and clang sounds and the screen flashing in every color the rainbow has to offer. Then it contnues with a "Muhahahahah... now you get that back!!!" followed by another ten minutes of disco flashing supported by a chain of very, VERY simple words that almost makes you want to cry. In short, they try to let flashy screens do the job instead of the narration, and for that an anime or a straight comic would simply be better. Those at least show a bit more than the same screen over and over again, just with a different color. So the key question would be if the action scenes in Tokyo Babel will also consist of endless repeated 'Shonen Power' scenes or if they are more descriptive and with unique images instead of flashing screen x 1000.

  46. @harry_kinomotoA very interesting post :3 A couple of points, however: It doesn't. And if it did it would be so very, very wrong. Bishoujo games is described similar to that on Wiki, but that's a different class of games entirely. As an aside, while I'm talking about the wiki entry for VNs, wiki also comments on Japan differentiating between NVL (novel games) and ADV (adventure games) but this distinction not appearing in the West, and whether this is true in Japan I can't say but they failed to include the reason why. Traditionally adventure games have puzzles, a narrative, and exploration, most VNs in an ADV format don't fit this criteria and thus can't be described as adventure games over here. A bit off topic, sorry All stories are supposed to inspire feelings for their characters, after all at their heart stories are about people. If you don't inspire feelings for your characters in any medium, you're often regarded as having failed. I think VNs have advantages, and disadvantages in this regard, like most mediums do. It's almost as though you're implying something ... xD
