  1. If you don't think Ixrec's translation is worth reading, then don't read it. If you think it is, then pay for it if you can. I'm not sure how you can justify any other argument.

  2. I'd like to take my time to thank @Down for going out of his way to make this dream come true. Without him, this probably would still have happened. But I'd also like to dedicate this thread to all the people who have supported me over the years on Fuwa. Without them, this great achievement wouldn't have been possible. OriginalRun, who at the time of this thread is still dead after having fought in the Indonesian war in 1336 where he was decapitated by Somalian pirates. Your awful memes will never be forgotten. RIP in peace. @Dergonu who likes so many of my shitposts I have lost count. You're the real MVP that helps propagate my spam agenda. @Kaguya who's one of the first people I interacted with on this forum and who I formed an alliance with many times to annoy everyone else. @solidbatman because he creates the salt with which we run Fuwa every day. @Fiddle, official provider of skeleton gifs and overly verbouse posts. @Tiagofvarela who has a nice accent so he gets mentioned as well. @Tay for creating this amazing platform we all complain about daily. @Kiriririri, the only person who understands VNs without moe are all worthless. @Ceris, who's still stuck in Love Live hell and who I hope will one day recover from the trauma. @Monmon, who helped me discover my addoration for traps and realize their superiority @Nayleen @madvanced who still puts up with me in classes My mom and dad who are probably really disappointed in me. My cat and my 2 birds. Jun Maeda I would like to close off this entry in the Fuwa logs by officially declaring Fuwanovel as a Marxist state. This is now, for all intents and purpoes, our official flag: Thank you all for making the rise of the proletariat possible. I will be consulting with Kim Jong Un soon in order to decide the future of Fuwanovel. Sieg Heil-desu I hate my life.

This is a VN by Circus, the company that makes the Da Capo series, which I'm sure most of our resident moe-addicts are familiar with. It is also based in the same universe (well, I'm pretty sure it is, since a Professor Amakase made an AI with emotions who likes bananas and who is the true heroine of this VN, lol). To put it straight to you... this is a very old style of VN. It is a lot closer to the old Da Capo games and Key's early VNs than it is to anything else made in modern times. Like Da Capo, it has its emotional moments... and some decent drama. However, in exchange, the lateral relationships are almost nonexistent (character interrelationships other than with the protagonist tend to be weak to nonexistent, beyond a few templates). This is the standard for this type of VN, and it was more than satisfying enough for me when I first started playing VNs... but now that I've experienced more fulfilling interactions between casts of characters, this VN feels startlingly dull at times. Both visually and audio-wise, this is a VN that 'feels' like a Circus VN. Almost all of the tracks are 'honobono' (restful) or playful in atmosphere. Visually, it is a reasonably pretty VN... but it isn't near the higher end of things. I feel a need to mention the ero simply because of the degree to which the spare (short and plain) h-scenes screw up the rhythm of a VN that doesn't have that good of a rhythm in the first place. This is a VN that was definitely made with an eye toward releasing a console non-H version later on, and it shows. As such, the ero is fairly meaningless and tends to be more of an obstacle to enjoyment than is usual. One more little thing that had me peeved about this VN was the fact that the protagonist is nameable... and that is also the single element that caused me the most difficulty in enjoying the VN as a whole. I don't say this to be an ass, but this particular trope has a singularly dehumanizing effect on the protagonist of any VN in which it is used. Considering how weak and pale charage protags are in the first place, this is a really bad idea, lol. In particular, when there is a blank spot in various spoken dialogue from the heroines where nothing is said or the name is changed to a pronoun, it feels really weird and breaks my engrossment in the story. Style-wise, this is one of the most abominable tropes in existence, and it is the reason it took me five tries to get into and finish Hoshi ori Yume Mirai, despite the overall high-quality of the VN otherwise. Now... this VN particularly shines in its heroine routes. Those routes are done - as I mentioned above - in the 'older' style, where the heroines have a serious problem that only comes up when they are with the protagonist and the protagonist solves, thus affirming their bond (after some shakeups). Now, I don't particularly hate this particular archaic type of story, and the heroine routes themselves are fairly high-level... but looking at the VN as a whole, the weak scenario design outside of the heroine paths (the lead up to the romance formation) is absolutely abominable to experience. This, in some ways, makes the heroine paths an experience in the good slowly carving away at the negativity of the early game. Overall, this VN is a typical Circus experience... good in some ways, godawful in many others. It is difficult to call most of the games by this company a kusoge, but this kind of BS is why this company isn't anywhere near a favorite of mine.

  4. I had to scrap this unfinished cg and thought I might as well share it, so you can more or less see the whole process. Initially it doesn't really look that clean and lacks the dithering, I typically add later. I'm already looking into a faster way to draw c64 retro art on modern software, so I wouldn't have to do everything manually; paying attention to every single pixel out there is quite exhausting (that aside, aspect ratio issues are even worse). Project isn't abandoned. It went on a slightly longer hiatus due to my late health complications, but I resumed work on it a while ago. Engine is nearly done and capable to replicate all the cool effects, which were typically used on C64. More info at a later date. I'm preparing some preety cool stuff.

  5. So here I was about to finally start Amnesia: Memories after spending years of internal-conflict-deciding to bail on Fate/Stay (dw, I'm planning on reading it this summer for sure, trust me ) But then I remembered Root Double exists, so I'm going with that. ~~ I also went through The Leisure of Grisaia. HeheheheheHEHEHE, it's been too long. You can pretty much consider it an extra chapter 30min ~ 1h in length that could be tossed into Grisaia's common route. 'Cept it's girls-only, and they're full of hormones, so take that as you will Hah... Meikyuu + Rakuen needs to come out already.

  7. Hopefully you will find something redeeming in it - I will admit, while I liked most of the characters in TB, I would say I never really felt very invested. With the exception of one certain character, (but that would be a spoiler. ) Needless to say, I found that character to be really well done, and conveyed a bond I was emotionally drawn into far more then anything else in TB. As for Comyu - I dunno, I couldn't forgive it for it's choice of storytelling, I felt like I was robbed of half the VN's setting - what with the completely random side-stories that consisted as the other two routes. I had esp. high hopes for one of those characters, whos' story turned out to be reallllllly weak. @Canicheslayer I really should try starting up KnS1 again - I stopped shortly after: Loved Cartagra though, was the first "dark" VN I had read in ages...last being...Muvluv I think? wow, 4 years...that really did leave a mark on me, huh? lol.

  8. Here's some advice that will work anywhere for any game: Find a shop that sells porn where you live. Ask them to stock the game(s) in question. Offer to pay up front if necessary. They should be happy to do this for you--as long as the content is legal to import. Advantages: They're a porn stop. Selling this stuff is their job, so they should be aware of all the applicable laws in your area. They're assuming the legal risk for you. They may also have established protocols that help avoid unnecessary scrutiny by customs, minimizing the risk of the shipment being seized.

  10. I did what I normally do when I want the answer to a question: I consulted Wikipedia. The relevant entry is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_in_Europe#Norway I'd recommend not trying to import this. Buy it digitally. I didn't check the sources listed in that last line (they look like they're in Norwegian), so that's the next step if you want to continue investigating.

  13. Visual Novel Translation Status (05/21/2016) Okay, for the title this week I decided parodying this song from 1969. As we could see, Sachi was hypnotized Yumiko and Sachi said 'Come on, Sakaki-san... What are you?'. Well, there's much more choice in term of what you want to become in term of animal though, but Yumiko decided to became a dog (Well, it's the writer choice anyway, and in game Yumiko said 'bitch' so I guess it was appropriate). After my comment on VNTS Header Image this week, welcome to my VNTS Review for this week. As for Leisure itself, not interested but anyway, there's a good news for everyone that waited for Meikyuu (It will be released this summer) and Rakuen (Translated 35% as of now). Well, the Anime Central announcement this time was surely would bring everyone with high expectation down. Okay, maybe Kyonyuu Fantasy (Or Funbag Fantasy for localization) was quite decent (Bookwormotaku like this nukige) and Fata Morgana fandisc should be good for anyone else who want to read more Fata Morgana after finished reading it, but 4 out 6 six announcement was turned out to be hardcopy from already existed title, so this is quite letdown (Although if I said the box might attract the people who want to collect the packaging though). Although the earlier announcement was letdown, Mangagamer also announce that they'll release Tatarigoroshi on June 24th and Umineko on July 8th. I only look forward to Tatarigoroshi (If only to patching the voice), while Umineko was already had the patch with improved sprite and voiced to boot (And I kind of didn't click with new sprite from Mangagamer). I think since Anime Center announcement was majorly from Mangagamer, so I'll conclude Mangagamer section here. Oh, for last word I think I better look forward to next week update from Mangagamer to made up this letdown. For more announcement, Sekai announce one doujin VN called 2236 AD which the premise might sounds interesting, although kind of vague. For more update, other than Grisaia series Sekai also had nice progress from WEE Episode 3 which touched 82.49% as of now. Other than that, there's not much interesting although if you want to knew the round up Darekoi and Memory Dogma had some nice progress (More than 10% progress) while Sekai also want to launch Princess Knight using Indie Go Go (At least they learned not to using Kickstarter in case the project failed I supposed). Okay, this week instead of Anime Central, actually interesting news mostly came from Fan Translation. Astral Air progress this time was crazy (1.6% progress from last week, and for the progress it was at 78.76%), and looks like this summer we'll get boost in term of progress according to Chuee. Koiken Otome, they had 100% editing and 86.71% QC this week, which mean it shouldn't be long time before they release the patch (Or maybe next month hopefully?). While both of those 2 news of course good, we'd also face the problem from Dracu Riot side. As we knew, the team right now face some real life issue so maybe they need delayed the first rough complete patch (Although they said it'll be at the end of June, I'm still willing to wait until end of July). For last roundup, Tsui Yuri as of now had 22% translation progress and 2% edited. There's no translation progress from Bishoujo Mangekyou, but the QC was already started and it was at 3.1%. And for last update, we had Majokoi translated at 1.9% and edited at 1.6% (Also Majokoi team got another new 2 translators there. Hope it'll be speed up the translation). Oh, and actually from last week Mari's route at Libra was not 20% translated, but 25% translated. I think that's all for this week, and see you next week. PS - Since Decay mentioned his worry about Angel Beats translation project (Not that I'm interested as of now), here's the translator response in regard of Angel Beats localization announcement from Key at Arcadeotic post (Thanks). It mean that they'll try to continue for new as long as they didn't get hit by C&D or DMCA claim as for now. Although the translator word was more likely they wait until Key make official announcement. Well, let's see it for later though.

    What are you playing?

Just finished Steins;Gate 0. Overall I give it a 9/10, whatever these numbers might mean. I liked it the same, if not a bit more than the original Steins;Gate - it explored parts of the story that didn't really need fleshing out in a way that was surprisingly entertaining and in the end earned its place in the series as a true sequel in my eyes. Having finished the VN I've decided to check a walkthrough out of curiosity. I was pretty shocked by getting the true route on my second way through - but as it turns out, the first route I cleared, a route that felt so good that I figured it had to be the only thing you can get at first because of how well it set everything up... that route not only hides behind several triggers, but it is also the only ending required to unlock the true route. You see, you can get any route but the true route right from the start... but somehow, I ended up clearing the only relatively hidden condition to unlock the true route on my first way through, and ended up getting the true ending on my second way through, completely unwittingly and unintentionally. Given how ambiguous (but not nearly as difficult as the S;G ones) the choices are, I really don't know if I have good luck, or just the worst luck ever.

  16. Well, looks like you had time for chuuni games. Anyway, if I might give personal recommendation Seinarukana and Aselia would be good (As long as you didn't mind harem situation and could understand the gameplay). Tokyo Babel was also good and full of action, while Cho Dengeki Stryker was like super robot eroge. But since we had vote here, I think if you had slightly problem in harem, maybe Cho Dengeki Stryker would be suited to you (Although there's still had harem element though. Probably). Well, hope it'll be help.

VN of the Month: April 2016

I'm going to be honest... this was a month of unrealized potential and over-hyped games. To put things straight in my own words... I really, really don't want to name anything from this month as VN of the Month. If I were to name a VN of the Month based solely on quality and ignoring my own policies on sequels and remakes, it would definitely be Sengoku Koihime X. Nothing this month even gets in the same region as that VN, for all its flaws. Unfortunately, I do have a personal policy on naming direct sequels, fandics, and remakes as VN of the Month, so it isn't a full candidate. On the other hand, Island, for all its hype, turned out to be something of a disappointment for me. I like Front Wing's games, for the most part, though I do end up disliking some of them. I honestly thought like the setting and characters looked interesting when I was reading up to it in the weeks preceding its release. However, when I got into it, I had a definite sense of dejavu, and not in a good way. To be honest, though I do like a good mindfuck sometimes, the somewhat absurd nature of the ones in Island left me a bit irritated. Moreover, the weakness of the initial paths and the true ending were enough to push it below the level I demand of VN of the Month vns, even if it will still be named on my potential recommendations for the year as a whole. Wizard's Complex was, in some ways, my biggest disappointment for the month. It comes from Windmill, a company that has produced a number of first-class games (such as Kamigakari Cross Heart and HHG). However, the hopes I had crumbled with surprising speed once I actually started playing the VN. My misfortune in playing this VN was expecting more just because the company in question had produced more in the past. Almost by default, this leaves Wagamama High Spec as the VN of the Month 2016... though I feel it is unfortunate that Island didn't blow it out of the water, as I'd hoped it would. Dal Segno, for all that it had its good points, had some severe problems that just made it impossible to take seriously, in the end.

  31. Well there are several Youtubers that play vn's on their channels like LostPause or TheAnimeMan, you'd have to limit yourself to all ages or censoring the fuck out of whatever you play and also other rules that apply to youtube. It's not easy but could be done I guess also lenght might also prove a bit difficult when it comes to keeping up the interest of the audience, if you're charismatic or provide great commentary maybe would work but there's also copyright issues which may get in your way when playing things from Sekai Project for example, there's been cases when they only allowed youtubers to play only until a certain part of the vn. I know i'm probably sounding super pessimistic but I know it's not easy to do but if you can pull it off then it might be great. Best of luck regardless

  33. Yes, the game is less funny when everybody is experienced, but the point of the game isn't comedy, it's teamwork. The feeling you get after completing a hard mission is awesome, when you fail on something stupid, it's funny. At the end of the day, you feel accomplished that your co-operation was great and you defused a bomb at the literal last second.

  34. Finished Kara Shoujo - The Second Episode. Clearly a wonderful sequel to KnS...and Cartagra. I prefered the atmosphere, the mysteries (and the horror scenes) of the first KnS, but I must admit KnS2's plot and art are globally better (especially Art...the CGs ). In the same way, I really loved the relation, the link between the two protagonists. Otherwise, the True End is just...terrific : I want KnS3 9/10

  35. It's true there is always SOME risk, and they might even arbitrarily call you to prove you paid for that item (see The Journey for Salami), but from my experience, at least in Portugal, customs doesn't care that much about what's in the package, they mostly care about the information on the invoice. But if you really can't find much info, and if Norway really has explicit laws on this type of content, you might want to reconsider.
    1 point
  36. Check your postal office's section on forbidden items and how they handle them, that's where I found this information. They will never play the game obviously, that's why I said all that matters is what they see on the cover. It also depends greatly on who's checking the package, but really if it's not a gun or drugs, unless there's some crazy precedent in your country, it's unlikely they will bother much with your package. They probably won't even take it out of the box, they'll just open the box to see what's inside and if it matches the description on the invoice. And you probably won't go to jail either way (unless the game is classified as child pornography in your country I guess). Worst case scenario is they dispose the item. My uncle was caught mporting illegal pharmaceuticals and he didn't go to jail, they simply disposed of the package.

  44. Re:Birth Colony is a VN that has a special place in my heart. It is the second VN in the two VN series about a future where a rain of meteors rendered the planet's surface lifeless and humanity is living in arcologies of various types. The first one, Fake Azure Arcology, I plan to replay a bit later. It has the same writer as Hapymaher, Harukiss, Sakigake Generation, and a number of other VNs going back to 2007. The protagonist, Keram Souji (also known as Rindou Souji), is the adoptive child of a noble in the multicultural arcology of Aquarius, some 500 years after the Star Rain (the disaster) and a few years after the events in FAA. The society he lives in is one split between two areas... the 'Central District' where the nobles and what amounts to middle class citizens and normal corporations operate... and the outer regions that are controlled by criminal syndicates such as the multicultural (with heavy oriental leanings) Gentian. It is a world where the nobles have absolute power... as long as they don't seriously screw up. On the surface, Souji seems like the standard role model student... However, Souji's other identity, as a first-rate hacker raised by Airi (also known as Rangiku) and working for Gentian, is somewhat less... pure. Souji is a pragmatist, except where his friends and family are involved. Then, he will use any means he can put his hands on to completely obliterate whatever is threatening those he cares about. Seriously. One of the best scenes in the entire VN involves him essentially In the early part of the story, Souji comes upon a girl called Azurite in a facility sealed off for the past five hundred years, and his - relatively - peaceful life gets turned upside down. For better or worse, the story of this VN is focused on Souji and Azurite, and while things come to a resolution in all the paths (sort of) it isn't one that is really satisfying in the sense that someone as greedy as I would prefer. I mean, , but that ending wasn't exactly a resolution to the story's main conflict, lol. The various paths all reveal elements crucial to creating the big picture in Azurite's path, which is the true one... but because of that, they leave too much unresolved by definition As a whole, the story of the VN is first-class, but that sense that the heroines other than Azurite are just foils for her is more than a little irritating... I loved Noie (both conceptually and as a character) so I was a bit miffed at how her route gets gypped. Technology in this setting is pretty advanced... in particular cybernetics, AI, and networking technology are all way beyond what is possible now, even if you set aside certain super-abilities possessed by the protagonist and Azurite. That kind of hard sci-fi is one of my biggest addictions, so I quite naturally adore that part of this VN. Overall, this is a VN that will seriously tickle people who love hard sci-fi and twisted, dystopian societies. I honestly hope they will produce a third VN in the series (a distinct possibility, considering how open-ended the series' concept is), so I can experience more of this lovely stuff.

    Thoughts on VNs

One thing that I've consistently noticed about around ninety percent of the VNs I've played is that they tend to be personal stories, even when they are large in scale or not overly focused on the characters. A protagonist, a heroine, a villain develops on a personal level, the story flowing through their point of view, effecting their way of seeing the world, altering how the world effects them. VNs where the events are not intensely personal to the characters or where there is no specific protagonist are rare, and this at least partly because of the fact that VN narration is almost never carried out by a third-party uninvolved or only peripherally involved with events. This is contrast to the tendency in modern novels for a story to be filtered through dozens of different, almost 'disposable' points of view (ie: Game of Thrones, Malazan book of the Fallen) that contrasts with that preference. This is a function of the way the medium works, at least from what I can see. The habits and conventions of VNs include the protagonist not possessing a tachie and the protagonist being the narrator, at least part of the time. Multiple points of view share a similar tendency, with each point of view having an individual, similarly limited point of view in the narration. In my mind, this actually shows that VNs have a potential to evolve far beyond their current uses. It gives me hope that VNs will one day take their place as a true unique medium for storytelling, rather than a completely niche branch of video-gaming with an overwhelming tendency to possess gratuitous sexual content. At the same time, I'll probably be one of those resisting change until I get swept away by a particularly awesome epic story, lol. I want to see VNs evolve, but I am particularly unsuited to helping them do so, due to my long experience with the medium. In other words, I'm too deep into the medium to see it properly from a near-outsider's perspective, except hypothetically. This is more of a message to those would write OELVNs than anything else. I want to encourage yall to break the boundaries created by the Japanese example, while keeping the elements that made the medium so attractive for us. There are things that the Japanese just don't do as well as Westerners, and I'd like to see those concepts, themes, and ideas creeping into this medium to make it of an even greater scale here than it is in Japan someday. Sincerely, Clephas
