I've been pondering for a while now that I should stop lurking and make an account, I'm kinda shy, and very socially awkward even on the web. Anyway, I love playing otome VNs mostly but I also love horror and the psychological. I would love to hear some recommendations. it's a pleasure to meet you all ~2 points

Don't know what others think, but VA-11 HALL-A is enough of a visual novel for me. And it's pretty damn good. The characters are quirky and interesting and so is the dystopian setting. The random conversations in the bar are really engaging, flowing really naturally between silly and serious topics, much like random conversations normally tend to do. It also looks really dope, the soundtrack is a blast and the game just oozes character. Can't think of a better way to spend a nice summer evening. Time to mix up some more drinks, turn on the scan-lines, up the volume a notch and get back waifu bartending!2 points -
Just finished Majikoi A-1 and now I'm playing Grisaia no Yuukan..afterwards I'm gonna finish the before route from Root Double then finish The House In Fata Morgana. Made it my mission to finish up all the stuff I've started.2 points

Well, Higurashi does nail the psychological aspect of horror much better and I think that Corpse Party is more gory, but overall my bias for Corpse Party is still way stronger. Depends what kind of horror you're looking for.2 points -
Hey, welcome to the forum, nice to meet you! The house in Fata Morgana is a fairly newly translated title with horror / psychological aspects. The game is apperantly pretty good, (there is a review about the game written by Solidbatman here if you are interested.) http://reviews.fuwanovel.net/2016/06/18/the-house-in-fata-morgana/ I don't know anything about otome games, so I'll leave that to someone else2 points

Finally finished euphoria. I have to say it's been a good read, and while the ending's good I can't help but feel a little less than satisfied. I'd say it's a combination of wanting to see Keisuke do a little more after what was explained in the epilogue and the last scene feels a little on the short side. One thing though...2 points -

So this isn't probably even news, but I've just noticed it now and don't remember seeing it discussed before. It was brought to my attention minutes earlier that Higurashi Sui, the collection of the 19 arcs spread across the PC, PS2 and DS releases of previous Higurashi titles, is going for a strangely high price on play-asia - that is, the VN now costs 100$. That in itself wouldn't be so strange, play-asia was never famous for being the cheapest import shop out there. I didn't remember the exact price at launch - I think it was something between 7 to 8 thousand yen, the regular game price - so I went to check the Playstation Store, which is where I've gotten my copy... but this is where things started to get weird. Looking for Higurashi gave no results. Assuming the search system was just being trash, I clicked my way to the game through my download list - only to be greeted by an empty page. Even the entries in the download list are missing proper icons. I even tried looking for the Umineko releases, which used to be listed on PSN as well - but just like Higurashi, they are also gone, without a trace. I have no idea what is going on. I can only assume that this has something to do with both Kaga Create and Alchemist going under some time back - but would that really make them flat out remove all their products? One thing is for certain - if you still want to get the console releases of the 'When They Cry' series,, you might want to do so as soon as possible.... before the price grows even more. TL;DR - Higurashi and Umineko deleted from PSN, meaning it is no longer possible to get a hold of a digital copy. Physical copies limited and going up in price.1 point

Villain. Looks very much like somebody on a killing spree. I knew I wasn't the only one to having detected that. Yesterday the very rare thing happened that I fell asleep in front of the computer while watching a video. I was heading for a good nights sleep right until the group's chat started alerting that a new line was written and anther one and another one. It woke me up. It turned out to be Fred ranting about how much fun this forum game is. Obviously the best payback would be to declare him a villain in this very thread because only a villain would be that cruel to me Caroll Kirkland Hero or Villain?1 point

Now that is a setup, which could be used for something quite interesting. The setup isn't everything, but it's a good start. Have you considered the more technical aspects as well, like number of choices and how much it should branch? And what about engine? Have you considered heavy use or flags to remember choices for later usage or should each choice lead to a unique branch? I know it's a lot of questions, but I assume it would be nice to know the answers to all of those questions before actual writing starts. I have seen a number of people go "I will write a VN" and then later "now I have written half the prologue and filled in the entire plot. What do I do?". Well they didn't plan a structure. That could be an issue. Writing an entire VN requires way more typing than just a forum post.1 point

I haven't really developed on it yet but its about a world were human dna was rewritten by a mass of cosmic radiation and various factions developed possesing different abilities. the protag is from a faction that can "emulate" any other factions abilities so his faction is most sought after. they were all slaughtered by the non-power faction and his childhood friend aria was taken away. the sory continues 5 years later when he has blended in to the non-power faction's state to get revenge. this just a rough summary. typing all the details will give me blisters.1 point

I... I am tight!? But, yeah, who can blame us for forgetting that once in a blue moon anime studios can make characters that feel almost human1 point -
I'm not sure if all-caps is the way to go. THERE'S A REASON THAT WE DON'T TYPE LIKE THIS WHEN COMMUNICATING IN WRITING. IT'S HARDER TO PARSE SENTENCES. Also, I find the text displayed here very difficult to digest. The information isn't presented in a logical fashion, with one idea cleanly leading into the next, and the sentences don't flow smoothly.1 point

Yeah, it's from Angel of Slaughter, it's manga adaption. Sadly, I can't play it since it hasn't been translated to English yet. I have a soft spot for horror rpg maker games. It's by the same creator who made Forrest Of The Drizzling Rain1 point -
Saya is not a horror story. Saya is a love story. But for otome and Corpse party lover it could be perfect match.1 point

Welcome to the forums fellow Fuwan. Hope you can have a good stay, there are a lot of us around here that struggle with being socially awkward in general, not to mention things like social anxiety and the like. All in all I hope it will be a comfortable for you. In terms of recommendations, I'll second @Deep Blue's one of Saya no Uta, while it's not an otomege it certainly is one of the most fascinating horror stories currently in English.1 point

For otome games I recommend Ozmafia, Sweet Fuse and Storm Lover Kai For Sweet Fuse and Storm Lover Kai, so can you download PSP emulator, which you don't have PSP or PS Vita. Sweet Fuse can you play on PS Vita but for to play Storm Lover Kai must you download PSP emulator1 point

Welcome to the forum, and hope you enjoyed yourself here (I knew this is cliche word, but whatever). As for recommendation, I think some members above already recommended some good VN, but if I may add maybe Cross Channel (Psychological problem), Grisaia no Kajitsu (Psychological problem), Umineko (Horror and mostly mystery), and maybe also Sekien no Inganock. As for otome, did you play Ozmafia? If not yet, then I'll recommended it to you. And last recommendation from me would be Animamundi, which is old VN translated back at 2006. The VN itself may not had much romance (By the way, it's more shounen ai ie BL), but it was had some horror element if you interested. Hope my recommendation helpful to you, and once again welcome to Fuwanovel here.1 point -
welcome to Fuwa Heart and It's Nice to meet you I recommend Remember 11 since it have little bit of Horror and psychological. I recommend Corpse Party as well.1 point

Welcome Heart I actually was the same as you, and some of that akwardness still shows like with my lack of skills to start any sort of cenversations, but it gets easier over time I recommend Corpse Party and Higurashi, but those are the common, default ones that everyone recommends, so in addition Saya no Uta has some horror-esque elements along with Kara no Shoujo but to calssify them as horror-VNs is up to the player itself. One other one with good horror elemnts is Chaos;Head. Hope to see ya around1 point -

Recent (Japanese) Things You Have Purchased
Chronopolis reacted to Zalor for a topic
A few weeks ago I was in Taiwan for a class of mine, and in Taipei (not far from National Taiwan University for those of you who are familiar with Taipei's geography), there is this great otaku store that sells a bunch of doujinshi. And a lot of it is stuff from the late 90's to mid 2000ths, which is an era of otaku related media that I have a huge soft spot for. In any case, I manged to find three doujins made by the artist of Symphonic Rain (one of my favorite VNs). So of course I bought all three. Here are some pics:1 point -
