The only in-progress translation from SP I'm really confused about is Ley Line. But then again, I never fully understood what was holding it up when it was a fan project, either. I think what's most telling of SP's situation is Wagamama High Spec. They announced it long before the game's release, said they wanted to release it this spring and even entertained the possibility of a simultaneous release. Then after some delays they finally started listing progress a month ago, and it was at like 23% translation. It basically seems like Sekai Project has a manpower issue, they seem to have had some staff turnover issues that have kept some projects from progressing and generally don't have as many translators as they thought they would for handling everything in their pipeline. SP actually have been announcing fewer big translations lately, though. At least, ones they'd have to handle from scratch. They announced SakuSaku and Baldr Sky at AX, both of which were adopted fan translations. Koikuma will be the big "everything must be done from scratch" project from AX. And nothing of particular note was announced at Otakon. As some of their smaller titles are releasing they're shifting staff onto bigger projects and are still finding new talent from outside the VN industry, which is a talent pool other companies haven't been able to tap into . The person they hired just a few weeks ago for Tenshin Ranman will have that as their first VN translation, for instance. So basically, things actually are progressing there now, and I think they're done announcing a large number of huge projects for the time being. It's interesting that the topic of SP announcing too much stuff for them to handle happened right after the con where they basically announced nothing.4 points -

I think they're kind of finally getting a hold on their Kickstarter campaigns, though. Grisaia should be fully translated by the end of the year (whether or not it releases by then is a different story), World End Economica's third episode is finally coming out soon, Narcissu has had steady releases, Memory's Dogma's first part is coming out soon, and Vita ports have been officially announced. They also haven't launched a Kickstarter since Root Double back in January. They did launch two Indiegogo campaigns since then but their turnaround has been much faster. Still, other than the Nekopara anime, they haven't announced plans for more Kickstarters of their VNs, which is what I'd be concerned about. People are complaining that their non-crowdfunded titles are taking too long to come out. How do we know that they aren't focusing on their crowdfunding promises while those are being translated? Like I said, though, they've had three panels in the past month and have only announced a few doujin titles. With only one planned convention left, it seems a little weird to tell them to stop announcing stuff. They probably will stop soon. edit: Look at it this way: if Sekai Project had planned Kickstarter projects for even two or three of the VNs they announced this year, I'd be concerned too. But it honestly looks like their non-crowdfunded titles are taking longer than their crowdfunded projects. It's not like the promises to their backers are going to the wayside and other titles are being released sooner. It seems like they're just slow in general.4 points -

The difference is that Sekai Project relies on Kickstarter. Having a large backlog makes backers uneasy. The more projects going at the same time, the greater the loss to backers if Sekai Project suddenly folds. A growing cascade of crowdfunding campaigns suggests reckless expansion, or worse, starting new projects to fund previous ones (a.k.a., a pyramid scheme). Finally, too many simultaneous projects could stress the organizational apparatus overseeing all of them, resulting in lack of proper oversight and quality control. These are all serious concerns. MangaGamer is established, experienced, and boasts a fast-paced release schedule AND the quality control to back it up. Not to mention that if they suddenly collapse, backers won't be left with the tab.4 points -

This complaint is a little silly, though. People were disappointed that Sekai Project didn't announce a whole lot and yet MangaGamer announces 5 major titles and everyone's happy to accept. At this point, though, MangaGamer has announced more big titles than Sekai Project this year, and they have even more unreleased titles that were announced previous years. For example, MangaGamer still hasn't released Bokuten, Himawari, Da Capo 3, Kuroinu, and the Shadows of Pygmalion. Sekai Project's unreleased major titles from last year are Chrono Clock, Tenshin Ranman, and Wagamama High Spec. As you can see from their translation progress page, titles are being worked on, and many of their smaller VNs (some announced just a few months ago) are already 100% translated. Their big titles seem to progress rather slowly, which can be annoying, but the translations are all contracted, so it's not like they can force them to hurry up. They're also not going to wait for all of their titles to finish before they license more, because every publisher needs a constant stream of work so they can stay in business. Look at MangaGamer's backlog: https://vndb.org/p428. If you remove the EVNs and currently-in-development titles from both companies, the number of titles each have is about the same, even though Sekai Project has more doujin VNs. Wait for convention season to be over and check back in a year from now. If they still aren't close to releasing their earlier announced titles, then you can worry.4 points -

FuwaCom : Ecchi Unknown. [shitty fanfiction]
HMN and one other reacted to Kurisu-Chan for a topic
Well, hello there minna, i am...oh please, everyone know about me, the shity tsundere who always brags about his favourite show and has a big urobuchi fetish. Well, what do you have to expect from this shitty fanfiction? Cringy english, poorly done fights, non-existant drama, shitty romance and a ton of stupid memes, i don't even know why am i doing this, but guess i have to do it. And, of course, please correct me if my english is terrible (it is, there's no if) (Really, feel free to give me any criticism, i need that in order to improve my english) Prologue : the epitome of the genesis. Typical japanese street, Akihabara, 26 Mars 2017 The sun was bright, too bright for my NEET eyes, the air is cold, too cold for my NEET skin and the streets are crowded, too crowded for my NEET mind...And here i am, in Akiba, the anime mecca, the holy land of the perverts, the sacred ground of the eroge and... ??? :Oi oi, gaijin-san, why the fuck are you standing like this? is that a gaijin tradition or what? I got suddenly interrupted by mister Takao. I know it sounds weird, but he's actually my japanese pen pal, i just recently got to meet him, and since i discovered he was also an otaku, it was even easier for me to talk to him, i mean, it's been only 3 days since i got my vacations for Japan, and i'm already hanging out with a bunch of japanese dudes. Gaijin-san : You can speak with yourself Mister Takao, it was just thinking about...stuff, stranger stuff as you may think, you know, i'm not really a NEET, i do have a job and all, but i prefer to drow myself into otaku stuff and all. Japanese dude A : Hahaha Takao-kun, your gaijin-san friend is kinda right, i never expected to meet a gaijin so open about otakuness. Japanese dude B : haven't you heard about the new big eroge? with lot of bishoujo and cute traps? Takao : you may be the only one here into cute traps, i mean, what are you, gay? Gaijin-san : nah, i don't think traps are gay, since they are girly and all. And we continued, laughing and talking about stupid shit and anime...everywhere on screens, you could see the new Berserk anime made by Ufotable, new ads for some weird eroge as well as ads for creepy maid café...on the streets, you could see some Jietai patrols, equiped with modern, but they completely feel normal, compared to the HUGE amount of cosplayers roaming the streets, cosplay of every thing, from lusty maids to some crazy characters. In short, Akiba was a heaven for me...if only, it didn't happen, my biggest fear... Takao : Eh, why did the sky suddenly turn dark? Gaijin-san : what do you...what... In one instant, the whole scenery changed, the peaceful akiba turned into hell, as the sky darkened, multiple....things fell to the ground, struck to towers, buildings or even the streets, the debris fell over us, and...nearly killed us. Gaijin-san : guys! we must get the fuck out of here, run to the metro station! Now! But as i was yelling, one of the things well on our position, crushing the ribs of one of Takao's friend...it took us a whole minute to awake again...unfortunately, one of us didn't make it. Takao: Kuso kuso kuso! what do we do now?! what the hell is happening here! We didn't even have the time to think of something, a ship approached us...no doubt was possible. Gaijin-san : Aliens...FOLLOW ME! WE must get the fuck out of here! ..... Meanwhile. TV Journalist : as we speak now, the same scenes repeating everywhere, Paris, London, Tokyo, New York and many, many other big towns were assaulted in the same way, what was first mistaken as an meteor shower was, in fact, and trust me, this is not a joke, an Alien invasion, one of our journalist caugh the picture of one of these...things...before he got killed and.. the TV got interrupted and, a blurred face appeared...the counsilman, why am i not surprised. Counsilman : Hello comma...eh wait, you're not the Commander...thanks to you i look like a stupid guy, get me your commander, now. ???: We still have no information regarding the commander, sir, it's his holiday and. Counsilman : Wait, didn't he tell you? he's in Japan and...oh...ok, i'll tell them. Change of plan mysterious soldier, the UN has activated the FuwaCOM cell, unfortunately, your commander is missing. As the Counsilman continue to speak, another guy entered the room, it was C.O Bradley, he's in charge of the logistic and supplying the field units with intel and orders, his nickname was Texas Dice, a rather weird nickname in my opinion. Bradley : Oh sorry lieutenant Tsundere, didn't knew you were with the super secret counsil everyone on the base knows his existence. Counsilman : Mh...seriously, why such people are our only chance?...speak, mister Bradley, why are you even here. Bradley : We got a transmission from the commander...he's being under assault by the aliens, he's in Japan, i tried to pinpoint his position, he's near the Akihabara trainstation...why the fuck is he so fond of trains?..oh, and he asked Tsundere to lead the recovery team, so...good luck Lieutenant. Tsundere : You know, i have a name, my name is Christina, not Tsundere!...Oh sorry Counsilman, but we have to recover our commander, i think it's the right course of action, you agree? Counsilman : You could go fuck yourself, i don't care anymore...just go recover the Commander, i'll talk with him about the future operations, Dismiss! We had no time to lose, i ran as fast as i could to the armory, the mission was vital, if we dont recover our rightful leader, we'll lose the war...it's your fault, stupid otaku! As i arrived to the armory, only 3 soldiers were here: The first of them, a tall slavic guy, with long white hairs, a big scar on his left cheek, and an adidas-inspired strips on his armor, a sniper rifle -the PGM Hecate II, with the inscriptions "Vodka for life", his name : Corporal Vlad "Voko" Brejnev, a fine soldier from the czech army, even if he's...rather lunatic, and mostly speak with dank memes. The second soldier, a bit shorter, with a brown skin, black hairs and a juvenile, beardless face, his name : Ahmed "HuMaN" Iskander, a Palestinian soldier under the Jordanese army...with an israeli flag...yeh, the flag was my idea, i wanted to mess up with him, if you've seen his face, magad it was funny. It's a tradition to do a bit of tease with new soldiers, and he wasn't the exception to the rule. He was our demolition experts, always carrying a standard FuwaCOM assault rifle and X-04 explosives. And Finally, the last of them, a rather generic size(But a very big..."size" i can tell you), with anime-esque blue hairs, a rather generic brown skin, he is...oh, right, i remember now, Lance-Corporal Noel "Big Gun" Ferrara, a proud portuguese special forces member, bearing a big ass minigun ...i'll have to deal with that grotesque team. Oh, who am i? Lieutenant Christina "Tsundere" LaRoche, even if i'm not a tsundere. I used to work for GIGN, and got promoted to this...ultra secret anti-alien project, FuwaCOM, our objective is to assure planetary defence, we're the first...and the last line of survival, if we do not save our leader, the world is doomed, with that in mind, i had only one order to give them. -soldiers! we are humanity's last hope...let's save our Commander! And this is the story of how humanity's trash dealt with the biggest threat even faced by earth since Donald Trump's Election. END ....I'm sorry, sorry!2 points -

Well nobody probably noticed, but I have not been posting for pretty much the entire year. I did lurk around the site though. As for why, well it has been a pretty hectic year. In the last quarter of my third study year my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer and that really took up most of my time last summer, together with assuring I did not flunk anything. Well afterwards during summer vacation I was basically in charge of the household, as my mother just had her surgery and was starting on chemotherapy. She did not react well to it and got herself a urine way infection and spend the next two weeks in the hospital. After the summer vacation I was busy again with school this time for my final year and having to deal with my minor, as well as a lot of stress at home. After the second term I had to start on my internship and on my bachelors thesis, which basically comes down to a full work week. My mother was still recovering at that point and I did not get along with my supervisor, which did not help with all the stress. Somehow or another I still managed to succeed and get my bachelor, still haven't quite figured out how I managed to do it. So yeah I managed to get my bacherlor in chemistry. Only thing left now is to decide what to do afterwards. Still have not quite figured out what to do next. I am torn between finding a job and going for a master in chemistry. I just cant seem to make my mind up about it, working sounds like a good decision but I wont be earning as much as I would with a masters degree. On the other hand if I go for my masters degree, I will have to start living on my own (no problem there), but I will also have to pay for that all. Which will mean I have to start borrowing, and that will probably amount to 30.000- 40.000 euro which to me is quite the sum. I just cant seem to figure out what the right decision is. (Note it was not my parents paying for everything, were I come from you get studiefincanciering for 4 years or the length of your study which covers most of the costs minus any material needs.) I just needed to get that off my chest for a bit. That and brag a little bit .1 point

Review - Fairy Fencer F (PS3, Pc) Fairy Fencer F box art The story in this game is in one word ‘fairies’. You see, you have a fencer who controls the fairy when wielding them in battles. Naturally you have some evil villains who want to control all the fairies for World domination or some such thing. But all you really need to know is that this game is trying to be kind of edgy, which doesn’t work out at all, because it’s about fairies. Anyway the characters are pretty 2 dimensional as you might expect and although the art style is nicely detailed, the actual character design is kind of anodyne, and the main protagonist in the game called ‘Fang’ is a bit on the tiresome side. As for the rest of the characters, they do have some vaguely witty dialogue in cut scenes sometimes but the rest of the time they spend reminding you of what cardboard cutout their personality is supposed represent. When you stack up the visuals of Fairy Fencer F to say Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 you can see they look pretty similar. This is because Compile Heart is still using the same game engine in 2014. Considering that this game looks like a PlayStation 3 launch title, this is not good at all. Fairy Fencer F(left) compared to Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2(right) Now mediocre visuals don’t really bother me but tin his case it reminds of when Fallout 3 came out on the old Oblivion engine and everyone bitched about it, and then when New Vegas came out on the same tired old engine people where even more pissed off. The difference is that Compile Heart have released 4 games on their now archaic engine, to add insult to injury, even if you decide to do the optional 3.5gb install for the game it still chugs. That’s right a game that looks like in 2014 cannot manage a consistent 30 frame per second. In the positives for the visuals department, the special attacks in this game are glorious, you will feel like your power level is over 9000 guaranteed. The biggest strength of the Hyperdimension Neptunia series was in my opinion the sound. However the soundtrack in this rather less successful in this game. While the battle music is usually quite upbeat and fitting, for some insane reason compile heart decided that using songs with lyrics was a good idea, and this really takes away from the experience. The voice work is passable to fairly good, the female voice actors tend to do a slightly job than their male counterparts although this seems to be almost always the case in video games for some reason. Early on cut scenes will be interesting, the ones that are voiced anyhow but because the plot is dull and edgy you’ll probably ending up skipping a lot of the cut scenes later on. Fairy Fencer F cutscene As for the gameplay itself, well the battle system in this game is basically a polished version of that seen in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. Only now you don’t have to worry about using buffs and de-buffs all the time in order to defeat the enemies. This game uses an active turn based battle system so whilst there is clearly a turn order you can move around during your turns in order to line up Area of effect special attacks and the like, you’ll also be able to pull off lightening combos where you get to attack with all of your party though this feels mostly random. The biggest aspect of battles is to build up your combo meter, the little purple bar at the top. This will allow you to ‘Fairize’ which gives you hyper powerful attacks and better combos. You can also use spells to deal extra damage to enemies who are weak to certain elemental based attacks, although the enemies with the exceptions of bosses are generally pretty easy so you’ll end up mashing buttons far too much of the time. It only takes a couple of hours before what, I would like to call ‘battle fatigue’, sets in. This is where you pretty much aren’t paying any attention to stats, and are reliant on audio cues to tell you when it’s time to use a potion to heal or whatever the case may be, this because you’ll be so damn bored from having played out 100 similar battles in a row. Fairy Fencer F gameplay screenshot Outside of battles you can explore the map using world transform which is basically where you stake fairies you’ve gained through the campaign. It’s very basic, and you can even pay for the information on where to get fairies. It’s really pointless since all you’ll end up doing is beating dungeons in an order that is pretty much pre-set. The game does allow you to customize your characters stats to by using WP points, so you’ll be able to increase your attack, defines and learn stronger spells through the menu as you progress, there is also an option to synthesize potions and other items in the main towns shop but it’s not exactly a big part of the game. Lastly you have side missions, and sure they do add more game time, but they always consist of either killing X number of this monster, or fetching this random item from dungeon Y. Half of the quests are even labelled ‘fetch’. Ultimately I found Fairy Fencer F to be incredibly shallow, and whilst the battle system was improved over Compile Heart’s Hyperdimension Neptunia series, the gameplay is still so similar it feels more like an update patch then its own thing. So you just want them to fire all the translators that don't work as fast as you want them to? Maybe you should manage the company then. I'm sure they'd be able to get work out at a much faster rate with 2-3 translators. The problem with some of the translations has to do with the fact that they started late. Wagahigh probably got off to a late start because, you know, the game didn't even release in Japan until this year. They probably waited until then or shortly before to begin translating it. Chrono Clock apparently they spent an assload of time sorting out engine problems (not that I would've waited on translation because of that, but it is what it is) and Tenshin Ranman had one of the planned translators quit abruptly (which is naturally going to set it off pace). Mangagamer and JAST have had plenty of translations run at a slow rate. Let's not forget that it took 3 years to translate all of Da Capo III, yet nobody's hounding them over their decision to not assign another translator to it. The WEE thing was an issue stemming from the fact that the existing translation for the first part wasn't done by them, and the translator that worked on for Mangagamer was fired by them for being mediocre. I have no idea what happened to it after that, except for the one translator they assigned to it but later replaced. To my knowledge that's the only time something like that's happened so there's no need to crucify them over it.1 point -

Most of their translations are outsourced anyways. Not to mention translation is always done by individuals, not the organization as a whole. If a translation is going at a slow rate then that's because the people working on it don't translate as fast as others you're comparing them to.1 point

I might pick up Gahkthun this week so Sona-Nyl got me interested (the Alice in Wonderland in New York sold it). There's no otome game announced but I'm happy with a story title featuring a female protagonist. Plus, if it will be released next year, I'll be 18 then so I can read it without guilt. Hapymaher's description interested me but since I haven't read an 18+ VN before (Gahkthun might be the first), I'm not sure if I'll read it. I don't know if I'll read SonoHana since I'm not so into yuri vns. I might buy Sorcery Jokers when it's out. So there's 2 titles I might buy plus Bocchi Musume and The House in Fata Morgana fandisc out of Mangagamer's 2016 announcements. I'm pretty satisfied.1 point -

Oh, okay. I'm not entirely surprised to hear about that, although I'm not entirely familiar with economies outside my country. Not even really sure if there are any countries where college students would be better off with a masters, but I'm really not interested enough to know right now. According to an article I read on Forbes, I'd really only be making an extra 10k at the start, and I haven't heard of any companies that are prioritizing graduates with that kind of education. I'm not entirely concerned about my tuition costs right now. I'll be getting roughly $1900 per month from the GI Bill for 3 years and $2800 this year from a Pell Grant (not sure what I'll be getting after this), which I mostly plan on setting to the side for future tuition costs ($1000 a month from my GI Bill, and another $1200 from the grant). If I'm able to land a job pays somewhere close to the median income for computer programmers (which is $77,000 per year), then I should be able to cover all the costs I need to get my masters within a year or two, but I'd throw in a third year just in case. So it's not so much a concern as to how I'll be able to pay for a masters, but whether or not it'll be worth it. In my situation, it very likely would be, but I really honestly don't know. I'd rather put in a few years of actual work with an AS so that I can get a better feel for what's more desirable. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have some work experience to go along with that higher education.1 point -

FuwaHistory Series: Recounting the birth and tribulations of a Fuwa nation
Yuno-Gasai reacted to Zalor for a topic
I'm with Sanahtlig on this one. Archiving and preserving Fuwa's history seems important to me. Some people may heavily disagree with Aaeru and view her leadership as a low point in this site's history, but we wouldn't be where we are now without her contributions. In many ways Aaeru did revolutionize the western VN community. She separated herself from other communities (notably TLwiki I believe) and started something new, and this site is a result of that something new. Understanding Fuwa's history is important in understanding how the broader western VN community has changed over time; at least in my view. You honestly don't seem to know Sanahtlig very well if you're saying that. While Sanah does like promoting his content, he puts out content worth reading. Furthermore, he's been involved with the VN community for over a decade, making him plenty qualified to talk about the history of the western eroge industry as a whole, or just specifically about this site. He's one of the few people in this community who has been around for a long time, knows what he is talking about, and genuinely treats his passion seriously. If the cost for having such a valuable member is simply him self-promoting his work; than it's worth tolerating his justified desire for attention.1 point
