  1. Hi o/ I did a little analysis on changing trends in Visual Novels using the voting data on vndb if anyone is interested. I put up the first part of the series here: https://bunnyadvocate.tumblr.com/post/159429107647/visual-novels-the-rise-of-a-medium This is part of a whole series of posts, with my next post looking at protags, and what kinds of traits different types of protags are associating with according to an analysis of the tag distribution on vndb. If you guys have any questions or comments about it, then I'd love to chat about it.

  2. Random trivia: In Norse mythology there is a myth about Fenrir, the terrible wolf, who was about to eat the worlds (or somehting like that). Fenrir was bound by Gleipnir, the invincible rope, which was made from: - The beard of a woman - The roots of a mountain - The sinews of a bear - The breath of a fish - The spittle of a bird And finally, to stay on topic: - The sound of cats' paws. And what's why, according to vikings, those things do not exists. So taptaptap as the sound of running paws is a little... strange.

  5. Status update: Editing is proceeding. Darklord Rooke has decided to start over. Editing proceeds somewhat slowly because of Persona 5 and me being in the middle of moving. Seriously, go play Persona 5. And then go write complaint letters to Atlus about their shoddy editing.

  6. Do the complaints have to be limited to the forum update? Because I have to tell you how annoying hard-shell tacos are.

  7. As much as I have turned my nose at OELVN's in the past I've got acknowledge at least one area they lead the charge in - Linux support. This is something I've confirmed recently checking out VNDB releases. It's not really surprising considering they favor engines that allow them to painlessly target as many platforms as they can. There are a few translated VNs that have been moved to engines that provide Linux support but there are a lot less than I thought and it seems the community has a negative view of such conversions as they tend to cause complications (or outright remove features of the original). That said I personally am looking at linux support as a much more important feature since my patience with MS and windows is at an end. Combined with the fact that there are very few AAA games that I care about these days I'm making windows a 2nd class citizen - mulitboot or inside a VM if I must. Until now I've maintained a 2nd PC just for windows (mostly to avoid the inconvenience of multiboot). TL:DR I welcome larger budget multiplatorm (linux) OELVNs. Especially ones that break free from some of the less endearing themes/tropes of the Japanese VN.

  8. Yeah I found it quite interesting too, I was quite surprised to see such a significant change over the years. I guess the market is splintering a little, going to either length extreme rather than trying to appeal to everyone with a medium length story. Hahaha, well have a like back for your reply~ Yeah it's a pretty exciting time. OELVNs are finally getting the budget they need to start doing longer stories, and the stories they're writing tend to be of a different nature to their Japanese cousins. I expect the growth of the OELVN fandom is underestimated too, as they appeal to a lot of people who are unfamiliar with the wider VN scene and are unlikely to have vndb accounts.

  10. Apparently the forums just updated. As far as I'm aware, nothing major was changed. All the same, made a thread for complaints/bug reports because that's my #brand.

  15. Seriously though, how do people even eat from hard-shell tacos? I don't understand, it's a one-way ticket to awkward spill city. Now a tortilla on the other hand...

  16. Is @Darklord Rooke's despicableness also a feature? Who am I kidding, you're the ones who added "Darklord" of course it's a feature.

  19. My cat goes a faint "tap tap tap" on the new floor, I don't know what material this is (it's obviously wood but I don't know what wood, besides it seems treated).

  21. Wow, thank you for reporting this! It's fascinating to how OELVNs are shaping to be very different its forefather, the JVNs. And all of these trends are very good ones, in my eyes.

  23. Found the thread you were looking at, it's not complicated. Charles pronounced Sharla because Japanese use the French pronunciation (I don't believe it is, in fact I'm looking at a French pronunciation guide as we speak, but let's run with it) -> Sharla is pronounced Sharuru in Japanese -> nickname is Ruru. An easy way to fix that is to localise her name as Carla. Not Charles.

  25. Between these two series I'll always pick Majikoi, not because I disliked Grisaia or anything of the sort but I just happen to love the Majikoi series as a whole and it's cast of characters. There are so many of them that I like that in order to rank them I'd have to think for a good while about it. With Grisaia It's a bit easier: - Asako - Yumiko - JB - Michiru - Amane - Sachi - Makina with all that out of the way I will only say that they're two series I personally really enjoy.

  27. I dont recommend it, not because of translation quality because thats okay if you arent THAT picky RANT but the reason Comyu had one of worst throwaway H-SCENES I ever seen, its almost was like they designed a game for younger ones then hey we need H-scene " lets throw some random sh.t in it". Also I have never seen a more annoying MC, he is a damn manwhore who also happens to be hypocrite, claiming to be in love and giving pretionus shonen speeches, yet he cheats on girl, on other times he refuses to cheat... So badly written, I mean wtf decide what MC supposed be either he is nice or bad, not a damn hypocrite. Admitedly the game had nice idea but turned into a really predictable cliche with strong badly written shonen feel. I absolutely dont recommend this title.

  29. If you wish, I can help until Ryechu’s free enough to resume the reins. Mainly because I’m eagerly awaiting this translation’s release[1]. Sent you a PM [1] I blame the delay on Tay advising Ryechu to prioritise schoolwork over hobby projects. REALLY!
