Aiyoku no Eustia Translation Project (Partial Patch is Out!)
Limerence_ and 2 others reacted to eplipswich for a topic
So, just an update, I have just finished translating the prologue. 1st milestone achieved ^^ That's 9.21% (6033/65519) complete. That being said, QC will begin once editing and TLC of the prologue are done, and I have already received two offers for QC, one of whom is a QCer from Yandere Translations (thanks for the offers!). Progress is going pretty well and things are certainly getting into full swing! With that being said, as you all know, excluding the QCs, we're a two-man team (1 translator and 1 editor), and being the solo translator, it really is tough putting in the effort and energy translating this visual novel. I'm of course not giving up, but it would help a lot if I can get a 2nd translator for this visual novel. So if anyone has played this visual novel in Japanese before and is interested in translating this visual novel with me, please let me know! Otherwise, it would be just me translating this, and at the rate I'm going, it's probably going to take at least 2.5 years before the translation of this is complete. -------------------------------------------- EDIT: Translator found! Thank you for your interests! Still, feel me to PM me if you feel you can contribute as a translator. Requirements for Translator Position: - Must have a good command of Japanese and English and be good in Japanese-to-English translation (of course) - Must be committed to translating at least 1 route (that's at least 9000 lines) (I don't want multiple translators translating 1 route. It's for consistency.) - Must at least be familiar with Aiyoku no Eustia's story - At least be able to translate about 50-150 lines per day or 350-800 lines per week (not a necessity, but would be good to keep this standard) ------------------------------------------- Now that I've found a translator, I'm now looking for a editor to help out! Requirements for Editor Position: - Must have a good command of English - Does not have to understand Japanese, though it helps - Experience is a bonus PM me for more details. EDIT: Editor position filled. Thank you for your interests! Still, feel me to PM me if you feel you can contribute as an editor. -------------------------------------------- That being said, will be embarking on translating Fione's route next, followed by Eris' route and the release of partial patch up to Eris' route! So stay tuned!3 points -

About Canon Endings
Kenshin_sama and one other reacted to Soulless Watcher for a topic
This reminds me of a minor spat I got into with another fan of Madoka Magica, a rather homophobic one, who was quite upset that the original author of the storyline said in an interview that Sayaka and Kyouko would have become a legit romantic couple if they had survived the events of the show. One way to look at it, is that the god of the world is clearly stating the intent of his creation. That there is no other way to take it. The alternative I posited was to discount the Authors' intent, that by applying the ideas of "The Death of the Author" there was nothing in the show itself that definitively pointed to romantic feelings between the two characters and that their relationship could have been clearly taken a different way. To care about what an author (or company especially) declares as "canon" is to discount your own ideas and views about the work, and instead blindly accept what an authority figure states.2 points -
Persona 5's options
Thatcomicguy reacted to Clephas for a topic
Mmm... I never had problems with the music. Did you check the options under the save-load part of the menu? I don't think there is anything you can do about the screen ratio though... I don't recall any options that looked like they were involved with that. Sadly, console games aren't as flexible as pc ones, and Japanese games aren't as flexible as western ones.1 point -

Fitting for a music themed story, the music has been my favorite part too. Especially how it isn't just about playing music, but how music plays a big role in someones life. Music shapes who the characters are. The concerts and performances are the pinnacle of that. They are not just performances to show good music, but more about the feelings the music evokes in the performers and listeners. More often than not the performances are the conclusion of a story ark or a character development, where they bare their feelings, dissolve their doubts, anything through songs. Music ties everything together and it works so well. I'm pretty sure all of the major performance so far have managed to move me in some way, which is actually really cool and something I really didn't expect. Kanade's route especially was full of such powerful scenes. The autoplay in concert scenes is really nice, mostly because I read way too fast for what's intended. Being "forced" to listen through the whole song at least for me makes it easier to concentrate on it, and so enjoying it more. But more after I'm done with Riho's route.1 point -

About Canon Endings
Narcosis reacted to Funyarinpa for a topic
I like having true endings, because I like plot-focused VNs and those often need a definite conclusion. I don't get very invested in VNs without a true route (a la charage), it feels like reading a bunch of connected short stories.1 point -

WIsh I could help with the TL, but my Japanese just isn't up to par for this sort of work. Great progress and good luck. Thanks for what you're doing and stick with it1 point -
If you got here then you're already pretty far into the abyss seeing how everyone already gave you a lot of recommendations I'll just stick to my usual murder/mystery series, instead of repeating what others said above. - Cartagra - Kara no Shoujo - Kara no Shoujo Ep 2 I hope you enjoy them if you do end up reading them. Best of luck to you1 point

Okay, let's see what recommendations that I could came up with other than those above (Just like Fred said those were quite good). By the way, I'd already indirectly recommended both of Higurashi and Umineko in earlier thread (You could use new graphic patch if you dislike the old graphic). 11eyes - The routes were almost the same, so it's more in like with linear VN. It had actions and quite dark story in line with Fate and Persona 3 Kichikuou Rance - Old graphic, but the gameplay was interesting (Outdated compare to Sengoku Rance though, but still easy to grasp). And it had Rance as well just in case you interested with Rance VI and Sengoke Rance from Soulless Watcher recommendation YU-NO - Same graphic problem as Kichikuou (Outdated), but it was praised for deliver some interesting story in regard of dimension travel ahead of the release time (1995). The high average VNDB score should make you interested enough to try. Chaos Head - The MC maybe not your taste, but actually this VN was from same series as Steins Gate ie sci-fi. Also had some mind screw story and murder mystery Tokyo Babel - The setting was at the purgatory, which of course was quite dark in the first place. Had many actions as well Eien no Aselia and Seinarukana - Both was had other world story, and the former was quite dark compared to the latter. Also had some gameplay as well The Shadows of Pygmalion - If you okay with some shoujo ai ie girl on girl romance, then it'll be good for you. Had less action compared to Tokyo Babel, but it was had some disturbing moment That's all that I could think for now, and hope those recommendations will help you.1 point -

The recommendations above are universally solid, but nobody's mentioned the Steampunk series, so I'll throw that one out there. I recommend Sekien no Inganock in particular. It's kind of the opposite of what Kaguya said about Symphonic Rain: lots of complexity and mystery and magic, but that all is hiding something that is, at its core, a very beautiful, simple, human story. Hold out your hand and give it a try.1 point -

Technically, in Rewrite he doesn't remember them, but ok. If you're interested on yaoi/bara, No, Thank You!!! has a very cool system: once you finish a route and replay the game, more information is added to the common route to go deeper into the story. Also, in Clannad all routes are connected since they open the True Ending when all of them are over. The Infinity Series also have something like that, maybe, but I think the one you should really go into is Steins;Gate, as the whole plot involves the MC going through some time/space travel in order to reach its goal, and he really lives/remembers everything that happens during them.1 point

I finished Kanade's route a few days ago and thought it was definitely much better than the Rimu and Yayoi routes since it didn't feel tacked on in comparison to those. I really like how the narration changed frequently between Kanade and Shoichi because I thought it was really interesting to see things from both character's perspectives. I hope to see perspective changes in Riho's route as well; I think it would be cool to see things through Riho's eyes. Some of the drama in this route felt really awkward and strange like Kanade's various reasons for not being able to sing and the Johann stuff, but there were other parts of the route that were really good that made up for some of the awkwardness. My favourite parts of her route was the concert near the end as well as Shoichi playing in the street. I'm hoping to reading/finish Riho's route soon since she is still my favourite heroine so far I'll get to the questions in a bit since I want to think about them for a little while before responding.1 point -
Do you listen to VN's Background Music or Mute it?
PapaRabbi reacted to Funyarinpa for a topic
now I understand why you have wrong opinions about Fata Morgana Jokes aside, yeah, I'd NEVER do this. In fact, the presence of music is one of the reasons I find VNs (and games!) more enjoyable and approachable than actual novels nowadays.1 point -

Ahaha, most of my answers will probably be the same as TexasDice's... Oh well, here goes. My favorite aspect of the game is the music. Much like TexasDice stated above, music is what the VN is about so it's very important that it's done right here. But apart from that, the VN carried a very distinct aesthetic, and the music is a big part of it. It's an incredibly stylish VN as a whole. The art has a sort of "pop" to it and looks very bright and colorful without being overbearing. The music's instrumentation and general tone is similarly striking and suitable. On a side note, the H scene track is genuinely one of my favorite tracks and I wish it was used more outside of H scenes. I didn't love how several routes felt sort of tacked on. It's not awful, but there's a distinct gap in quality between the Riho route and the rest that almost makes me feel as though the VN would be better linear (though, I think I'm the minority in preferring mostly linear VNs, so make of that what you will). I also didn't love the character of Kanade. I generally dislike the childhood friend archetype; they're an incredibly lazy way to make a heroine come with a prepackaged affection for the MC. For the most part she was fine, but I really wish her being in love with Shouichi wasn't so obvious from the outset. I think that these things are much better if developed during the VN itself... My favorite side character was probably Megumi, the stripper who served as a friend to Kanade. She only showed up in Kanade's route, but she was really funny and charming in her own right. She wasn't complex at all, but she did everything she needed to do and was fun to listen to. Honorable mention goes to the cat. <3 As for the forced auto-text during the concert scenes, I wouldn't change it if I could (even though 9 times out of 10 forced auto-mode drives me insane). There's a certain magic to the concert scenes that makes them incredibly powerful and evocative, and I think that's part of it. It's almost as though you're experiencing things in real-time with the characters.1 point -
