  2. Well, thing is, you have no way of telling if that's true, and the record tells us that in fact it most likely is not. As wary as you may be, there is certain malware that is simply unavoidable. Fortunately, we are not its target. Let's see, for the sake of an example, do you remember all the fuss Stuxnet made in 2012? That is deemed to be the greatest known endeavor to date in malware development, exploiting up to 4 zero-day vulnerabilities. FYI a zero-day vulnerability is an exploit the software company itself is not even aware of yet. They're obviously really difficult to find, and ludicrously expensive to buy, yet Stuxnet made use of 4. Well, when shit like that comes to light you realize that in all likelihood every system in the world is infected in one way or another. Even intelligence agencies put malware into commercial software. Ask Snowden about all that.

Since we're on topic, why Fuwa doesn't have a "fap" reaction? Forum life would be more honest like this. "Like" sometimes is not quite wrong but not quite right.

Well said. Yeah, I absolutely agree. I think the setup the west has now is pretty good. People who want H gets it, (most of the time,) and people who don't want it has an option as well. The only vexing part of it being when X version comes out before Y version. (For example, the way it has taken over half a year and counting for Grisaia no Rakuen to come out in its 18+ form.) The system isn't perfected yet, but it's at least good everyone gets what they want in the end. I still do find the system fascinating, though. (The cutting of content technically "meant" to be in the game.) But, it's working, so hey, can't complain. Fiddle, what would this place do without you? Never leave us, please. We need your memes.

  11. Well... I usurp myself the right to be unreasonably romantic and skip the explicit content unless I think it's a crucial part of the experience. I simply like the romance in VNs and mostly don't care about porn, so I often don't mind it being gone. It might be a cultural thing, but I think it's more about personal preference. But I also think that the more choice people have when it goes to how they want to experience a story the better - people should not be forced to receive incomplete product because other might find some parts of it offensive/uncomfortable. But I also don't see a reason why all-age versions shouldn't exist or should be seen as necessarily inferior. There might exist a way to balance everyone interests, but that would need major distribution platforms giving up on censorship (won't happen any time soon).

  16. Oh well, the e-mail adress not working would probably explains a few things. With Tay himself, I've figured out that much since registering on forums. Although I was never in a hurry, so I was less concerned with "timely" answer and more with receiving any feedback at all, from anyone. ;p As we're on the topic of feedback, tyvm for yours. Probably as soon as I'm done with all the annoying university deadlines plaguing me right now, I'll start setting things up.

  18. Ah, that makes sense. My personal settings for new posts also show new blog entries, so I'll see them myself unless my usual behaviour changes radically in the future. As for the mail to fuwareviews more specifically, that was kind of broken until like, a week or so ago and didn't really reach the people it should have (one of the reasons I tagged Decay in here). Apparently setting that stuff up is complicated or something. Not sure about the mail to Tay specifically though. In general expecting Tay to give a timely answer to anything is a bit risky because he's a very busy man, rip.

  21. My thoughts went from greatest tragedy of all time pre-magical-narcolepsy-conquering into worst cop out of all time post-magical-narcolepsy-conquering. Srsly, just Riki and Rin surviving out of the entire LB! crew fit the ongoing thematics so well with all that world looping to develop the two to become strong & independent but nope, we gotta haves the happy endings, Riki magically became strong enough to override his narcolepsy and save crew yeee /endrant It's a cop out because you are told plenty of times by Kyousuke that Riki should just gtfo out with Rin because he will fail if he tries to save the crew from the 'splody bus, and actually you will get a bad ending if you try to play hero and save the crew the 1st time you encounter the bus scene. For me that whole scene would've been handled better if it was just black and white. No magical narcolepsy conquering. Riki either, in the heat of the moment with all of his development from all the world looping, mans up and chooses to save everybody or he obeys orders and runs away with Rin like a good little soldier. As for more epilogue, yeah it's an ongoing issue i have with VNs as well. Epilogues need to be longer, we spend hours, days on VNs and when you finally reach the end you can get slapped with only 5 minutes of wrap up, it's like the writers ran out of gas and just said fk it, main stories' done, pce out. ///////////endrant

  23. As much as I believe you're right I don't think I'm brave enough to do without any AV software. It would freak me out with all the stuff I do on my PC. I actually quite like my 360 Total Security, it has a few cool utilities outside of being a straight-up anti-virus. Might affect performance on weaker set-ups, but I'm now benefiting from a monster rig my brother have left behind when moving out, so CPU power is never an issue. :3 BTW, the said gamer's monster rig would most likely cry every night if it was sentient, being used primarily for writing in Word and displaying 2D anime ladies.

No I agree completely that h-scenes wouldn't have helped persona. It wasn't long enough and it would have required a lot of effort to make it viable or good. It's just that the concept of not wanting to fap to mitsuru baffles me.

I wouldn't say they overwhelmingly contradict mine lol. If I was going to have a "Waifu" she would probably be one. I have just never descended into the anime fires of having Waifus lol (dont see the point). An overwhelming contradiction would be if I said I hate her and thought she was ugly -.-. When I first played Persona 3 back in 2008 I was 18 (I am old), I wasnt like, omg this fake girl is so hot I must fap to her immediately but damn Atlus didnt give me a sex scene with her =(. I was just like hmm she is pretty cool and pretty hot >> Google: Mitsuru hentai pics > Results > Oh right, yea that looks kinda good > Fap to some hentai or porn (or if I was lucky do the real thing, usually the fap tho). Let me rephrase it, I would not want Poorly executed and written sex scenes in persona 3 with the girls, it would have cheapened the game imo. If they were done well I would not mind. Social links for the girls are kind of like mini-VNs anyway lol, the issue is, I am not sure the social links provide enough time for the writers to execute sex scenes well anyway. Plus, even if the Japanese release had sex scenes on it, they would never make it on EU/US release.

  26. I'm interested in this, EVNs have always interested me. I think the problem I have with EVN reviews as primarily a JVN reader is trust in their opinions. Basically, my impression is that the EVN community has generally low standards. I mean, lower than mine. That's kinda terrible. This could of course just be differences in preference, but when I see something as badly constructed as say Taarradhin get 8's, I can't shake the feeling that something has to be wrong. ---- I'm not sure why you gave up on getting EVN coverage on the fuwa mainpage. We used to do some of this in the past; the issue is in finding qualified people willing to spend the effort (and I will admit to not spending much time looking for them). The Fuwa Reviews team is also looking for more reviewers for EVNs as far as I know, so that road's not closed off either (PM @Decay about that, maybe?). If you want to run an independent blog, I can also offer to republish anything I like enough - you can contact me using whatever method you prefer if you're interested in that.

    On h-scenes in VNs

I find the western VN fanbase's attitude towards H-scenes quite fascinating. I can't think of any other type of media where releasing most of a game with some content cut out, then releasing a patch, (which is now often being called "DLC" by wester localization companies,) is the norm. DLC in itself is not new. Actually taking out a part of what was originally in the game, selling it separately, and calling that DLC is very strange. If this was done to a standard video game, people would most likely be quite angry. (Again, refering to the actual removal of content meant to be in the game from the start, then charging people for said content with the "DLC" tag.) Secondly, the need to find "story relevance" in H-scenes is quite perplexing to me. Of course, in a small handful of cases porn in VNs will be relevant to the story, but... that's not the norm, not at all. But, why would anyone think it would be? It's porn, what did you expect? That being said, people's opinion that if it isn't important to the story, we can actually REMOVE IT from the game is even more confusing. There will always be things in fiction that doesn't drive the story forward directly. Can you honestly say that every single sentence in a book supports the story? Every joke, every conversation, every line of narration? That every single second of a movie does the same? The idea that just because the H in an eroge, something that was in the original version, isn't resulting in crazy plot developments we can remove it, is objectively weird. It's crazy just how big a difference there is on this point when comparing the Japanese and western VN fanbase. In Japan, the general idea I have gotten from the fans is; An all-ages game? Ehh, no H? In fact, non-H games often gets items in the special edition clearly meant to fill that "No H?!" gap. Lewd artbooks, tapestries and so on. It's interesting to see just how big of a difference there is between the fans on the two sides of the market. Oh and my personal stance on H-scenes in VNs in general; I like them there. If the game has them originally, I want them there. If the game has the approach of Eden* and Corona Blossom with optional H, I personally always choose the H version. (And, I do have to admit, if the game is all-ages, I often do find myself wanting a couple of H-scenes.)

  30. I will make no effort in grandstanding by trying to defend my position by conjuring up some elaborate excuse, I simply like h-scenes because I'm a horny bastard. I've recently gotten allot of shit for rating some eroge higher than story centric visual novels on vndb. No, I don't think Funbag Fantasy has a better story than Kara no Shoujo, but they weren't aiming for the same goals. You can't rate a comedy on the same grounds as a action film, just as you can't yell at Stephen Hawking for being shit at baseball. I know that isn't what this topic is about, but I wanted to preemptively explain that before getting to the meat of the matter. The real question is how to feel about sex scenes in story focused visual novels. Well personally I like them, I'm the type of person that after becoming a fan of characters in fiction I look up fanfiction and doujin about them fucking. Having the porn in the source material beforehand is something I find incredibly convenient and a major time saver. Do I expect people to be fine with this? Absolutely not and I completely understand why people would dislike these elements in visual novels. Not everyone has a masturbation addiction to help deal with the condition known as "living", some people drink alcohol instead...... or they just like a great story to distract them from life. I find the question of whether "sex" can be used effectively as a narrative tool to be an interesting one. It's pretty common for people to cry out that an H-scene is "unrealistic", which always baffled me. We don't cry fowl when a FPS doesn't include a 40+ hour rehabilitation simulator after the player character is shot and no one complains that half of rom-coms don't end with a sloppy divorce. Fiction will always contradict reality on some level. I have never believed that a sex scene in any medium was "realistic" aside from Harry Turtledove books and quite frankly it kinda sucks. Realistic depictions of sex without dramatic flourishes are no different from depicting eating a meal or getting over a cold, it's just another boring part of life. Would I like more story centric visual novels with sex scenes integrated better in their plots? Absolutely, but as I stated before it's not that easy. Sex is a relatively boring act as a plot device, without going into FSN territory and inviting contrived reasons sex is required, it can only be used as a plot device in stories of youthful indiscretion, Romeo/Juliet rip-offs, and stories of jealously. In all three instances sex isn't even necessarily required and could be substituted with something else. Sex isn't as big as a deal as society makes it. Oddly enough I think the horrible act of rape is a much better plot device and something that society needs to be better and handling. This act of abject evil opens the door to a menagerie of storytelling opportunities, however if the writer isn't incredibly skilled and knowledgeable it will come across as a cheap shock tactic that is "trying too hard".

  31. Also while this is not a 100% save, this save those let you skip over the rapish stuff and follow all nicer routes (though i honestly have no idea what i'm missing, i'm at 99% witch HCG and 98% with the scenes), i thought some might be interested in such a thing, personally i recommend this route: -The Power of a Kiss (must complete, best thing in this novel) With this optional ones if your looking for more upbeat ones: -Harem World (if your looking more antics from all of the girls with a focus on Saki) -Fiancees Forever (if your looking more antics from all of the girls with a focus on Yuuki) -An unorthodox love (h-scene wise saying its wierd is small talk, but story wise it is an interesting conclusion, could have been executed a bit better but decent none the less) Another interesting route to follow is: To the Future (get rapey, but its not at a point where the MC is evil, but a struggle for him and Proxy for him to keep his humanity and for her to keep her sanity, this one is more about the characters on fate of the empire then they're personal story). Well anyway here is the save file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/n63c9c3xbdqfyw1/PoisonBerry.zip

    On h-scenes in VNs

You see, most VNs that do include sex scenes do not need any. The "B-b-but they make the stories REALISTIC!~" argument is simply bullshit. Practically no visual novel story is "realistic" in any sense of the word. Going by moege (since the "it's realistic!" argument is often used for cutesy romance VNs), they're all practically wish fulfillment. Hanging out with a student club, or a committee, or just a bunch of girls sorted or introduced to the protagonist otherwise does not magically make all of them fall in love with you. They're contrived stories. Any defense of sex scenes in such VNs (especially considering how so many of them feature high schoolers) is simply not in the name of realism, it's at best because their audience cannot conceive of a romantic relationship without (usually unsafe and underaged) sex. Furthermore, I'd find it insulting to any medium to insinuate that they need to use sex scenes to establish the audience's investment in characters so comically trite and overdone that many characters, let alone relationships, can be described with a single fucking word. Sex scenes in eroge (broadly speaking) are not necessary to establish a believable relationship because the relationships to be established are often just as superficial as the characters and disputed h-scenes in question. The scenes themselves are also so fucking generic that I could spit out 50 different lines and you wouldn't get which VN I pulled them all from. Just about every single one works out the same. I can respect someone saying that they self-insert as the protagonist, see the heroine(s) have sex, or otherwise want sex scenes in story-heavy VNs (e.g. not nukige) in a self-gratifying fashion, that's fine. But the argument that explicit, drawn out, numerous sex scenes that never serve to meaningfully develop, evolve or deepen a relationship somehow add to the narrative value of a visual novel is absolute bullshit. I don't think I can recall a single case where an explicitly written out consensual sex scene (rape/assault is often used for characterization/shock value, and isn't what we're talking about here) meaningfully develops a duo's relationship in a VN. Which is not to say that I'll be crusading against every slice of life VN with sex scenes, but don't act like the average sex scene in the current VN industry is meant to add to characterization, narrative, or plot development. It's there to fucking sell, and for the audience to enjoy.
