Allow me to second what Plk (Plk? Lesiak? How do you shorten that?) said. Personally, I'm fine with it if it stays in the coliseum of chatter, but if that's not the case it is problematic. It's fun and dandy when you're in the loop (and to get back on topic, yeah, lately it has been fuwaspammers), but to the outsider it's not. If it actually affects whether people want to post proper content, like a blog in Zander's case, then I can only hope it stops.3 points

Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi Every VN reader should read this game. It has a brilliant concept that can change your way of thinking and be more open-minded regarding the medium, outstanding art and excellent soundtrack that will engage you in the story and one heck of a baseball experience.2 points

ONE VN you should read before you die.
Tamaki Sakura reacted to ittaku for a topic
Clickbait for sure, but I'm actually asking for recommendations, not recommending one. You get to recommend precisely ONE VN and ONE only, translated or untranslated, and explain why - any genre, any style. If it's an untranslated one, and I haven't read it, I may even consider it for my next translation project. To clarify, I'm not just after a recommendation for myself (that's just an aside), I'd rather know what people consider their one must read VN and why; it should be a masterpiece that makes you breathless beyond words and I want to know why. Thanks1 point -

Unrated Eden of Grisaia released at last!
Dreamysyu reacted to DharmaFreedom for a topic
Just finished Meikyuu and it was great! Really enjoyed Asako and Yuuji's relationship, Julia too. I'm entering Asako into my list of favourite VN heroines . I think i'm going to skip senritsu and zankou for now and dive straight into rakuen. I hve been waiting for way, wayyyyyyyyy too long to finish this story. I'm glad i waited for rakuen's release before i started meikyuu, that ending was so abrupt . I have my guesses on whats happening and meikyuu's still fresh in my mind [and heart], so i think it'll add to the enjoyment of reading Rakuen immediately after. Man I hope it ends well for everyone. After all the suffering these characters have gone through, i really want some happiness and hope for them in the end. I've grown quite attached to them evidently.1 point -
Heh well as much as To Heart 2 means to me, and how many years work I put into it, I'm not blind enough to consider it the best VN of all time. On the other hand, for anyone that enjoys moege and charage, I put it to them that they should all play To Heart 2 at some stage because it is one of the reference works that basically defined the genre in one fell swoop. VNs before it were nothing like it in scope and tropes became tropes as a result of its writing. They weren't tropes when it was written. It has dated in many ways but there are also still very likeable aspects to its story and characters, and the amount of meta references to this game in the most modern of charage still today make it an invaluable reference for jokes. Playing it is reading history in the making. Even if you don't plan to read it, check out its and its animes' list of (spoilers) tropes http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VisualNovel/ToHeart21 point

Winter 2018 Anime discussion
Plk_Lesiak reacted to Thyndd for a topic
It perfectly could, but I'll be the optimist and prematurely say that I doubt it. It doesn't quite have the amount of fanservice. Sure, you see some boobage and stuff, but not quite what you would expect in a 1st episode of what's going to be an ecchi fiesta, which considering they usually go all in at the beginning to hook the target demographic, that's saying something. Hope I won't have to swallow my words1 point -
Nah, I know I can come across as less-than-serious sometimes, but it's just due to my naturally awkward formal writing style I suppose. It's not intentional, really. There's a place for humour, and I try to incorporate a comedic flair into posts when it's appropriate, but on serious matters like this I holster the meme pistols. Thanks though, I'll probably have a crack at a blog of my own soon.1 point

How do you feel about VN's with Gameplay aspects?
Plk_Lesiak reacted to TheCrimsonFucker for a topic
Personally, I don't really care what is considered a VN or not. If I enjoy it then that is what matters. I like deep stories and good characters and character interractions. That's why RPG and JRPG are my favourite gaming genres, and that is also why I like VN-s. But I never liked them to an extent where I was annoyed, that I had to get through the gameplay elements no matter how good they were. That is mostly true for actual RPG and JRPG games. When it comes to VN-s, it seriously depends on how well it's done. In VN-s the main focus is usually on the actual VN parts (I belive), so there is a lot less development on the gameplay. Which can end up as a VN, with some shitty gameplay. In that case you want to read and you get constantly interrupted which is annoying. On the other hand I think if the gameplay is well done, than it can give more depth to the VN aside from the reading. It also can get some people (like me) more invested and immersed in the whole story line and world. But even when that is done, well there is still one big hurdle. The pacing of the gameplay elements. Kamidory for example (and other eushully games as I have heard) have a lot of grinding in later parts of the game, which completly cuts of the story for hours. And if you wan't to continue the story, it is really annyoing to do tha same dungeon over and over again, for some materials. Still I'm the type who likes to play between story segments, and it also helps me get immersed in the world and story, so I prefer VN-s with gameplay if it's done right.1 point -

Kimisora. A beautiful nakige made by Cabbit. This was one of the first VNs I read in Japanese, so I am probably a bit biased, but the story is truly beautiful. It also has an incredible OST, good art, and the story doesn't follow most of your standard cliches for the genre, but instead goes in directions you probably won't see coming. Each route is pretty unique, so it almost feels like you're reading different VNs for each route. (In a good way. What I mean is that it isn't repetitive like some VNs can be, and instead does something new for each heroine.) Although I can't say it changed my life, it was a fantastic read, one I'd strongly recommend to everyone else.1 point

Translated: Saya no Uta - It's incredible how many things this novel gets right even with it's short length. The atmosphere is incredible, the characters will make you happy, then rage, then afraid, then cry then everything at once. Untranslated: Shingakkou - Best piece of horror I read, it's creepy without relying too much on gore, and it still have an incredibly beautiful message in the end (unlike the above one), SoL parts are also endearing, characters are very well written, especially the main character.1 point -
Very well. Breathless is a tough term, since I generally experience breathlessness during nukiges if you catch my drift , but to answer your original question... I say it a lot, but Kara no Shoujo gets my vote on this one. The soundtrack mixed with a stellar translation and chilling scenes left quite the impression on me.1 point

Favorite vn: Grim Fandango. Favorite route: There's this really cool road nearby with beautiful trees on both sides of the road. It's my favourite route to the supermarket. Favorite loli: I don't eat lollipops often, but I think I like yellow-coloured ones the most. Favorite kyonyuu: Hennessy. Favorite shota: Rambo. He shota the shit outta his enemies. Favorite best girl: Weber Spirit E-310 3-Burner. Favorite art style: Anything by—or reminiscent to—Salvador Dalí. Favorite genre of vn: Anything involving deception, mystery, or elements that can be left to the player's interpretation. Favorite "dere" type: Roe deer. Favorite yuri game: I don't know any games by Yuri Gagarin. Favorite non- canon pairing: While I do prefer cannons, I think a Brown Bess and a Charleville Musket go nicely together. Favorite side character: Han Solo. Favorite otome game: Skyrim. It has some pretty cool tomes. Favorite best boy: My dog, Brutus. He's a really good boy! Favorite translation: I think "I came; I saw; I conquered" is a pretty solid translation of "Veni, vidi, vici". Favorite OELVN: The Devil on G-String. Favorite trap: The famous Trojan Horse that the Greeks used to infiltrate Troy. Favorite jrpg: The Witcher 3. Favorite waifu: My neighbor's. He has some pretty damn fast wi-fi. Favorite imouto: "The Moat Around Murcheson's Eye" by Larry Niven. Favorite Kemonomimi animal type? Dragon types. Favorite BL: The Philippine Arena has this really straight and beautiful line right in the middle.1 point

HoshiMemo review discussion
Dreamysyu reacted to Nandemonai for a topic
Problems like this almost always point to a management issue of some kind. Sekai Project released 2 games that clearly weren't ready on the same day. Then they released a third game like a week later. Clearly they rushed these out, so they could get them out by the end of the year. That's a management decision. There could be a lot of reasons for this. We've seen a lot of evidence that Sekai Project struggles with the day-to-day realities of running a company. Their public communication leaves something to be desired. They seem to have trouble juggling the huge number of projects that they're working on; many have experienced huge delays from their original projected timelines. I suspect the root problem is that they're trying to juggle too many balls and are having trouble keeping them in the air. And they haven't got enough pairs of eyes to keep on them. Dovac's comments about untranslated lines in Leyline are telling. It doesn't take six months to find untranslated lines and fix them. (And yes, I write code for a living.) It takes at most a few weeks to write a tool to generate a report with all the missing lines. Then at most another 2 weeks (if that!) to get everything translated and a new build into QA again. A good project manager would know that. Sekai Project is managing so many different projects that they need a project manager. These debacles tell me they probably haven't got one. As for HoshiMemo's translation problems, that probably boils down to the choice of translator and editor. Whoever was in charge of the project put people on it that shouldn't have been on it. There could be any number of reasons for that. Perhaps they didn't do a thorough enough job vetting them. Perhaps this was the best they could do because all the good people were booked on other projects. We don't know, and they won't say.1 point -

So far from what I've played of it, it's pretty good... as a rapist protagonist nukige. One of the better nukiges in this category methinks. Though, I wish it had more real plot but alas, I know I'm asking for too much. That being said, quof did a good job with translation, so I have nothing to really complain about. To each their own I guess. Though to be honest, I believe that comments like "Why could they not have translated something else" are in bad taste. Obviously, they wanted to translate this (for free) and not something else. Maybe they didn't want to fan-translate another mindless moege (that we already got a plenty of so far) and instead wanted something more hardcore. Why would anybody specifically want to translate any VN that you want to see? That's not how fan-translation scene works. Translators work on titles they are interested in and those titles aren't always popular with the whole VN community. There are VNs for everybody.1 point
