AIRIS (free otome VN review)
MaggieROBOT and 2 others reacted to Plk_Lesiak for a blog entry
Although a significant portion of VNs produced in the West is published for free on platforms such as Steam or Itch.io, most of them are very short and simple projects, often made by starting-out developers or as quickly put-together entries for contents such as Yuri Game Jam. Still, from time to time, it’s possible to find a VNs on a completely different scale also available as free-to-play releases – AIRIS, created by Ebullience Games for NaNoRenO OELVN event and published on April 2017, is definitely among the most expansive games of this kind, with proper route structure and impressive story variation, that will require you many hours to fully experience. While at first glance this otome might look like a generic fantasy romance, it offers a few fairly unique ideas (which I will not spoil in the review) – and those go far beyond its loudly advertised inclusivity, expressed through various LGBT+ themes. While not straying far from the typical formula of the genre, AIRIS indeed offers both a fully-fledged yuri romance route and another one focused on a non-binary character. More importantly though, it takes the somewhat overused trope of MMORPG and gives it an amusing spin – one which created some really interesting storytelling opportunities, even if their execution often left something to be desired. Zaka: Why hello there fuwans and fuwanots, today me and the dorg have something special to announce… Dorg: You're pregnant? Zaka: Only with shitposts, man. So yeah we both passed 3k posts recently (dorg couldn't hold it and managed to go past 3k smh) and thought we should celebrate it in a special way. Dorg: Hey, the fact that I went past 3k just goes to show how good I am at shitposting. Zaka: There's a time and place for everything, you know. Though actually now that I think about it doing it at 3002 is like kind of a shitpost. Fuck. Shitposting is deep, man. Dorg: Indeed. Bow before me, mortal! So, what kind of special celebration did you have in mind? (insert gay joke) ;w; Zaka: A gay joke? Surely that particular knob has been polished well enough you don't even need lube to take it up the ass… uhh well I'd like to celebrate how amazing of a person I am, that ok with you? Dorg: Well, I mean, seeing as I have 2 more posts than you, I’d like to think of myself as more amazing, but… sure! Zaka: You know, it's actually hard to think of.. [Actually, zaka is just too lazy to look up posts to link] WHAT THE FUCK STOP FUCKING WITH ME META-ZAKA [Look, you made me like this. It's time to pay the price for all your Ever17 shilling] Fuck. Dorg: Can we just go back to gay jokes already? You're losing it. Zaka: Okay, so once upon a time there was a man named dorg. The Dorg was really stupid, as it thought that once you got 3k posts, people would have gay sex with you. Turns out you need 4k posts. Dorg: Well, fuck. I mean… good. Zaka: (this is the reason dorg became a mod; everyone knows mods have more reason to post than most people, just look at Nosebleed (rip)) . Literally his only motivation is my swedish ass. Dorg: And know that I can ban you at any moment, so you better start shaking that ass for me, neko. Zaka: You mean misclick the "spammer" button? wwwwwwwwwwwww Dorg: @Asonn SouDesuKa? Zaka: … Well memed, sir. Dorg: Now, let’s get back to this celebration. Zaka: I guess since it's a celebration for both of us we should have something about you as well… let's see, let's celebrate you getting back from Japanese uni hell to nice, cold, dreary, girls don't randomly fuck you Norway! Dorg: Fuck my life. Take me back. Zaka: Just tl that shitty moege fandisc to dull the pain man. Dorg: Ok desu. TLnote: Ok Desu means yes in Spanish. Zaka: そうですか TLNote: "Shikata ga nai deSU", means "the pleasure of being cummed inside by a humanoid canine" Dorg: Now, let’s put the tide pod eating aside for a moment, and start a juicy AMA. Zaka: So you know how AMA's are all boring and overdone? Well they still are and honestly we should kill ourselves, but at least ours has one little twist. See, you can ask any question you want… but you gotta specify who it's to (or if you want, pick both I guess…). Zaka will answer all questions to Dorg. Dorg will fail to answer all questions to Zaka because he sucks, but I'll let him try anyway out of pity. Dorg: *Hovers over “mark as spammer” button for a second.* So there you have it! Ask us anything! But please, make it spicy. Zaka: You may ask questions in the master language (English) as well as Japanese. I have no idea why you'd want to use an inferior language such as Japanese though tbh. Anyway, enjoy or something~2 points -
The future of different western eroge publishers
Dreamysyu and one other reacted to bakauchuujin for a topic
Found out Sekai Project just added one more reason for people to hate them. They will only release the ps vita version of root double in America and basically says screw you to everyone else who backed at that pledge. This line is so great. Basically, fuck you if you pledged this tier and live outside of north America, we will not give you what you paid for and also thank you for being so understanding when we just screwed you over. Really glad the only SP kickstarter I pledged for was the nekopara one, which was handled by nekoworks, not SP. If they keep this up maybe they will manage to get so bad reputation that they go bankrupt, I atleast hope that would be the case.2 points -

Would you still continue reading VNs if, starting from today, all H-scenes were banned?
Plk_Lesiak and one other reacted to Dergonu for a topic
Well, there is the stores themselves. Then here is digital marketing. If you go to a game's website, they very often make a big deal out of having extra H related merch for the special editions, (dakis, artbooks, ecchi drama CDs etc,) as well as showing off a few H CGs from the game. (Of course, they also usually show normal CGs and what not, but in my experience, the H parts feel more ... idk, prioritized?) Trial editions often also have a separate section just for H-scenes, where you can try them out, normally with at least 1-2 scenes per heroine, letting you quite literally skip any form of story to just jump straight into the H. The Japanese release of Pulltop's Love Kami Useless Goddess and Divinity Stage released one new H CG once every week/ few weeks as teasers, to make people come back to the website to look at the juicy H art and get... hyped, I suppose? For the game's release. It does depend on the game and the developer, of course, but from my experience, the H becomes more important than other factors when marketing for a new eroge in Japan, whether the H is actually "relevant to the story", (like all the western fans wants it to be,) or not.2 points -

It is pretty outrageous. While they have now said that they are "looking into it," the fact that they literally planned on just releasing the game to some of the backers is absurd, and shows how little planning goes into this stuff... SP really has been giving fans the finger these past few months. What I just love is this comment on their kickstarter: Thanks for understanding! That's it, lol. "Sorry we are technically breaking kickstarter rules by not giving you the rewards you were promised. Thanks for understanding."1 point

Winter 2018 Anime discussion
Plk_Lesiak reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
Just finished catching up with Death March and I can say I really like it. The way he goes around just secretly solving problems is pretty nice, and the fifth episode was somewhat surprising with the princess. Poker face skill is best skill and I love the way the in-game titles often seem to be making fun of him. I also like the fact that the anime recognises there's an unreasonable amount of skills and titles for every little thing. Also tried out Takunomi. Not exactly bad, but focuses too much on drink and food, neither of which I care for in anime (unless it's Black Butler).1 point -

I actually went looking for that song when I first heard it. It's called 'Tomorrow Never Comes' by Datascape, and the only place it seems to exist for sale is on a compilation on iTunes from Nightingale Music. Nightingale Music seems to be a company that makes/produces music for film and television. They're also based in Canada which is why the song is all in English. Since they appear to have never released another song, my guess is that Datascape was some in-house band for Nightingale Music that wrote the song and broke up immediately afterwards. Nightingale Music doesn't seem to have any other interactions with the Japanese VN scene so idk how Clockup noticed them and decided on this one super obscure song. EDIT: lol, Nightingale Music has a portfolio section that lists all the projects they've contributed their music to and they conveniently left out Maggot Baits. Now why in the world would they do that? Thought you might be interested in this too.1 point

Hello there Lovely, Lovely People of Fuwa! Today I've published a review of a game that I'm not sure I fully recommend playing, but which was very interesting to go through and shows a lot of promise when it goes to the development team behind it. It's also another freebie, so I encourage you to check out the article, to find out whether you might find it interesting enough to invest some time (and no money) into it. I also have a few announcements: surprisingly, my comically unpopulated Steam curator page received its first review request and a free copy of The Seven Districts of Sin: The Tail Makes the Fox, a quite overlooked, but interesting-looking comedy/romance VN. If it's good enough, I will try to publish a review of it as soon as I'm done with the Otome Month thingy. If not, I will make a short "bonus post" about it and publish it outside of the typical Friday schedule. In less optimistic news, I really wanted to review Cinderella Phenomenon for the otome event, but I've realized that there's no way I'll find the 30+ hours to go through it all and review it properly in the coming weeks, so I'm sadly postponing it indefinitely. Writing about it would make especially little sense soon after a great review of it was published by @Mr Poltroon on his blog, if you haven't seen it yet, do it now. In its place, a will write a post about a rather tiny, but quite interesting and unusual VN, that is worth looking at for completely different reasons than CP, but should be a lot of fun to write (and hopefully read) about nonetheless. For now, I hope you'll enjoy this week's post! Next week there's supposed to be another large Steam sale coming, so I'll try to provide another list of juicy OELVN discounts. PS Also, while definitely no one cares about it, I've corrected the final score on my Sepia Tears review to 3,5. I've realized that game deserves more credit for the things it does right and also doesn't really belong with other VNs I've given that rating to. Have a great week everyone!1 point

I actually remember a scene in Ayakashibito, where the MC helps the female lead pee. There is literally no point to this scene. It's just randomly there in an otherwise chuuni VN. I actually end up skipping most of the H-scenes. I seem to enjoy sexual humour or dirty jokes that are tastefully included, as well as implied sex, in romance, but if it was only H-content alone that got censored, i could maybe, possibly deal with it. I would probably never touch a moege again though.1 point
-
Well, I read them sometimes, when there is a good chance that I'll miss something if I just launch the app. Otherwise, I just skip them.1 point
-
I'd guess, 90% of all VN companies would die, and the other 10% would stick to making shitty VN sin-offs for popular anime. Though, in any realistic type of scenario they will probably just find some loophole to continue selling eroge, at least in a heavily censored state. By the way, what exactly do you mean by marketing here? I remember you describing Japanese stores that sell eroge, but is there anything else?1 point

Check the weekly VNTLS. You can also go to VnDB, click releases->filters->language->English->apply. Then click the tiny down arrow next to the Released column, and it'll show you a bunch of TBA dates. So just keep hitting 'next' page until you get the 2018 date, and check them yourself. There's also a demo for Fatal Twelve, you can download there.1 point

First, I'll give you links to my observations of the first three chapters of this game. Contains Chapter 3 Chapters 1 and 2 Now for Chapter 4... as I said in my post on Chapter 3, the bottom line for this is that if you liked the first three chapters, you'll like this one. It is humorous, it is bloody, and it contains an odd mix of the grim and abnormal slice-of-life. I laughed out loud - literally - several times while playing this game, and I honestly liked the insights on Chris's character that this gave. This chapter also serves as an excellent 'settling in' chapter for Gumi and Maki, as Chapter 3 was focused too much outside of the normal daily setting to get a picture of how she was dealing with her change in situation. The introduction of yet another (female) character has me feeling a bit exasperated, but since Taiga fits pretty well with the crew, I didn't feel any irritation. The combat scenes in this are pretty much just one-sided 'pow-pow, the enemy dies' one-sided massacres, except for one of them. I'm going to be blunt... in six months, they probably could have done two chapters like this, so I can't help but wonder why they insist on separating this game into such tiny chapters. While I won't say that the first two chapters (released together) were 'satisfying' in that sense, I nonetheless felt like I'd spent good money, rather than throwing it away. Unfortunately, at the price they are offering these chapters, I would much rather pay seven times as much for a full game two years from now than be forced to wait for each chapter.1 point

Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai! A 2 || Majikoi A 2 Summary Majikoi Fandisk. Published in 5 different releases, Majikoi A-1 to A-5. Each release features about 3 stories. A-2 contains: Seiso, Monshiro after+, Cookie 4 IS Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order No particular route order. You can play whichever heroine you like first from the heroine selection screen. However do note that unlike in A-1 where there was only a single possible ending for each heroine, in A-2 we have 2 possible outcomes for them. I played the Heroines in the following order Monshiro ----> Aiesss ------> Seiso. Please Note that i will be naming Cookie 4IS as Aiess (Her given in-game name) as her route involves the other cookie as well so it becomes confusing. The Choice/s in Pink affects multiple ingame events so it is recommended to select both on different play throughs Also Don't Forget to replay the training area 19 times to unlock special cgs. Exiting the game each time will unlock you skits every time you do it. Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai! S

Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai! S https://vndb.org/v6245 Introduction Good day everyone. This is the Maji de watashi ni koishinasai! S Walkthrough for the currently patched fully translated game. I made this first to fully explore the content of the game but since I’ve made a good progress with writing my own walkthrough, might as well share it with everyone. This is the sequel for the first Majikoi game which shows the future for the five main heroines while adding five more additional heroines to conquer. It’s great right? Since this is rated 18+, please be noted that there are a number of scenes that are for mature audiences. Falling under the said age is not advisable to play this game. With that said, have fun playing the game. GAME START! Description Majikoi is back and better than ever in this sequel to hit 2009 visual novel. Majikoi S takes place after the events of Majikoi and lets you choose which of Majikoi’s many endings to proceed from. Choose your favorite heroine and enjoy new romantic events with her, or choose to start with no commitment and romance one of 5 new heroines. - J-List Things to be noted before starting the game When starting the game for the first time, you are required to fill in your birth date. I recommend having a date closer to the actual date. This will give you an easy access to the Birthday Mode in the Extras rather than waiting for your actual birthday to view this mode. Well, you would be lucky if your actual birthday is near that you don’t have to adjust the date just to view this early. There is a random glitch where the game gives a completely different scenario when choosing from the dialogue box. It’s easy to notice based on what choice you pick and what the dialogue/ text comes after. When this happens, just reload to the previous choices and pick again. Tatsuko’s route needs to be played twice for the Clear mark to appear in the Future Selection screen. Childhood unlocks after completion of all 10 routes. (Momoyo, Kazuko, Miyako, Yukie, Chris, Tsubame, Monshiro, Margit, Kokoro, Tatsuko). Future where you are an acquaintance of Takae unlocks after all routes are completed. After completion, an ALL CLEAR!! text should appear on the top right of the Future Selection screen. By the end of this walkthrough, The CG, Music, Replay, Event and Movie Collection are completed. Try to go for choices that you haven’t pick to see a different scene. Choices with [sAVE] and [LOAD SAVE] are choices needed to proceed to the end of each chosen routes while then you are free to choose any choice for the ones not marked. Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order The suggested playing order is listed below for those who wanted to play the game efficiently. You can also play this by following this order: Kosugi > Common Route > Tsubame > Monshiro > Margit > Kokoro > Agave After > Tatsuko > Future with Momoyo/Kazuko/Miyako/Yukie/Chris > Childhood Route Guideline Kosugi Route Future with Kosugi Continued Common Route 2nd year 1st semester (Clear) Future without a relationship Future with Momoyo S After Future with Kazuko S After Future with Miyako S After Future with Yukie S After Future with Chris After +S After Tsubame Route Future Where Tsubame Takes the Lead Future Where Yamato Takes the Lead Monshiro Route Monshiro Route Continued Margit Route Margit Route Continued Kokoro Route Future with Hermit Crabs S After Agave After Tatsuko Route Childhood Koyuki Route [LOAD SAVE 12] Fuck her hard. CG 123 [12/12]; CG 124 [4/4] Future with Chousokabe Iyo Route Future with Shima Future with the Maids Yumiko Route Another Future with Miyako Another Future with Miyako-1 Another Future with Miyako-2 Another Future with Miyako-3 Future Where You're An Acquaintance of Takae Attribution This walkthrough is based on the walkthrough from seiya-saiga.com which I adjusted based on the fully translated patch provided by our translators. Koisuru Oukoku (Kingdom) Summary In a mythical age, a young man seeks to adulthood. He leaves his old home to face the frontiers of the kingdom. He comes to a town where one can seek any apprenticeship freely. This is so one can find his own purpose in life, and perhaps his own lover as well. Jobs include: border guard, educator, work within various magical schools, fisherman, and more. With each job there appears to be a respective woman in the same profession to charm. Will the hero be able to find and woo the girl of his choice in time for the town's festival? (Description taken from VNDB, with some minor adjustments made by me) Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order This is more like a dating sim than a full blown VN, meaning that you have stats, a HP meter, there are no particular routes, and that you have "free time" to walk around and do things. This "free time" includes the time after 16 PM, plus the whole of Sunday. The main thing is that for each week, you choose a particular job, and that job will change your stats, give you money, and give you opportunity to talk to at least one girl who is somehow involved in that particular profession. The money that you earn from these jobs can be used to purchase gifts, which will further help you to win a girl's affection (affection points are known as "hearts"). Please note that you can only get ONE girl per playthrough.
