  1. I see multiple reasons why NK wants something to change. First of all, their nuclear weapons program might have serious issues. They explode deep inside a mountain and apparently they caused a bunch of cracks and now it's collapsing, causing earthquakes without detonating anything. One tunnel collapsed and they sent in people to rescue the 200 lost people. This resulted in another collapse where they lost another 200. To my knowledge they haven't detonated anything since that incident. NK is starving and relies heavily on food from the outside world. Most of the food eaten in NK has US flags on it, though the population is unaware of the meaning of that symbol. However the leadership is likely aware of what would happen should the food supplies stop arriving. When China gained a new president, he went on a tour of neighboring countries. He started with SK, then NK before moving on to other countries. Kim Jung Un got furious because he had to be first and he was not to talk to SK at all and there is no way a plane should be allowed to go directly between SK and NK. The Chinese president didn't like getting orders from NK and China has been less friendly with NK ever since. Trump has made UN make severe restrictions to oil exports to NK to avoid oil from being used for the nuclear weapons program. This gave rise to oil smugglers, which US detected from satellite and SK sent the navy and captured two tankers. While smuggling pays well, it doesn't pay enough to justify losing ships and NK is now low on oil. Their threats towards Trump doesn't work. He make replies making it sound like he is ready to attack. That has never happened before and they might not know what to do with that situation. Going to war against a super power without food or oil and with a ruined nuclear program is not a good idea. Movies have been smuggled from South Korea into North Korea through China for years. However while it used to be VHS tapes, it's now micro SD cards and once inside, they are easier to copy. It's also possible to add more than just movies. Technology has caught up with NK and the population is getting aware of how the outside world is really like. A high ranking officer, who deflected has recently stated that the growing unrest in the population mean that unless the government makes big changes, a revolution could break out within a year because the population is at a breaking point and they can't be suppressed back to the state they were in just a few years ago now that they have gained more knowledge. There is a limit to how effective their military is against the population because soldiers are also part of the population with family outside the military. Like Ukraine, a small uprising can turn big in no time because a significant number of soldiers will side with the population (read: own family) and change side. Also using the military against civilians will force UN to react like they did with Libya. In short: the NK government has to do something. What they have to do in order to stay in power for years to come is a good question and odds are that they don't know the answer and is just trying something because it can't be any worse than not doing anything.

  2. I wonder? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yep, I did it. And it didn't even take me 20 years as I originally suspected. Since there's nothing to do with this thread anymore, and AMA's are getting old, and it's not like I have anything interesting to tell about myself anyway, just... bring here the nicest VN fanarts you can find or something?

  3. Hello again. Today, I have the 5th week of progress updates. As you can see, we're keeping a good pace and hopefully, the prologue patch should be out in the coming months. Here are the updates Translation: Prologue - 76% (1353/1791) Edit Prologue - 26% (469/1791) We are still looking for a dedicated TLC as the other translator is only doing it for the prologue. If you think you are capable enough for the position, please PM me. That's all I have for this week. See you guys next week with some more project updates.

  4. Some people use this function to polish their language skill, from what I know. They try to read it in Japanese and refer to the English version if they don't understand something. It's the same as reading bilingual books, I guess.

  5. I'd like to see this be a real end for the troubles on the Korean Peninsula... but the likelihood of this being a permanent solution is very, very low. Part of this is that NK can't afford for peace to visibly break out. It is only the existence of the 'virtual enemies' (the US and their Southern neighbors) that has allowed the regime to hold onto power for so long. As such, cynic that I am, I'm suspicious that he might just be using this to give him a chance to rebuild while immediately going back to his old policies the first chance he gets... Realistically, NK has to find a way to stabilize its food and fuel situations, above all other things. This provides an opportunity to do so, and if sanctions cease, they will also have a chance to legitimately obtain technologies that might allow them to make strides toward resolving those problems in the long term, as well as the short term. Unfortunately, it is questionable whether the regime will have the patience to take the long view on things, and their stated goal of 'reuniting the homeland' has not been officially set to the wayside, despite the talks. Another issue is that I honestly can't see Trump keeping his mouth shut. He is constitutionally incapable of not claiming credit for anything positive and spreading blame for anything negative. He is also incapable of just being quiet for long, in general. If he leaves it to his Secretary of State (the new one), there might be real progress to repairing (or just building) the US as well as SK relations with NK. The likelihood of that is abysmally low, however. As for issues with Japan... while the Imperial Household itself has a stated (indirectly and in a generalistic fashion, as has become traditional since WWII) aversion to historical revisionism, the government and society in general isn't. Nationalism and historical ignorance are on the rise in Japan, and the current leadership are sadly very much in line with that trend (probably because they've gone through so much effort to create it). While we can depend on Japan's government to want the US presence there as a shield for the foreseeable future, if SK agrees to throw out the US presence (something a surprising number of citizens want), you could see things become a lot more unstable there rather quickly. Worse, China might decide to take drastic measures in order to reduce the US presence on the mainland of Asia (to be specific, they might encourage territorial ambitions from NK if the US withdrew from SK). In other words, peace on the peninsula is a potential powder keg for the region... at least, that's how I see it.

  6. Confession: I know I've said this before, but I think I'm finally ready to stop playing MMOs for good now. After playing Runescape obsessively for over four months, I've been on the fence about quitting these last few days. And after reading a few video comments on the official Runescape youtube channel, I come across a couple interesting videos covering the Skinner Box and unpleasant design that completely changed my perspective on gaming and further motivated my desire to permanently give up MMO gaming. My reason for quitting mostly has to do with how my mind has been trained to play Runescape compulsively; not just because of how it rewards excessive commitment, but also due to its tendency to block off some of the most rewarding content behind recurrent daily, weekly, and monthly reset periods (some of which have to be played in very specific times). Before I knew it, the game had conditioned me to play it every single day (even when I wasn't in the mood) so that I could maximize my daily gains, and I never missed weekly or monthly content. On top of all that, Runescape goes out of its way to put in tedious time sinks that are crucial for progression. That's not to say there weren't any moments where I genuinely felt like I was having a good time (especially while I was questing), but those moments were far too few in between for me to feel like I was getting a sense of enjoyment from the game overall. And although RS3 is the worst offender by far, I feel that every other variant of Runescape had some major design flaws in regards to this as well since it has always been a grind game. But now that I have something concrete to center my thoughts on, I feel like I can finally throw in the towel for good and just leave the MMO scene entirely. I'm not sure how well I'll hold up in the future, but I'm gonna bookmark those two videos I linked as a reminder of why I quit playing MMOs in the first place. And frankly, now that I know how Skinner Boxing works, I'm a little pissed off that I allowed myself to be manipulated like this. That said, I'm glad I caught on before my spending habit became more severe. Because of how much time I spend playing this game, I've developed bad spending habits such as extending my membership period for beneficial auras, buying banks slots, buying pets, buying gear/item presets, and even maintaining membership for another account so I can play two different game modes (standard and ironman). I've spent a little over $270 since I started playing in December, and I'm concerned that it might get worse if I continue to play this game as I have been.

  7. What did you just say about lolis sold to a brothel, Kokoro? I'll have you know I graduated top of my English Literature class at the University of Miami, and have over 50 confirmed credits as a visual novel editor. I am trained in English and I am well known as one of the top editors on Fuwanovel. As we speak I am contacting my network of experts across the internet right now to assemble and work on Musumaker together so you better prepare for the patch, maggot. If only you knew what kind of lolige your "clever" little comment was about to bring onto the world, maybe you would haven't clicked on "Submit Reply". But you couldn't, you didn't, and now the entire VN community will pay the price.

  9. This will totally become Bara under Otome disguise! You saw through me! O_O (Just joking xD) Hi! Dialog-wise, there will be only slight differences. However, there will be at least one or two assassination attempts that totally depend on the protagonist's gender. While the setting is designed to be quite tolerant, it's still rather unheard off for a woman to assume a position of authority over the princes of the realm. For the male protagonist, there might be difficulties romancing the princes since while it's rather common for nobility to have lovers of the same gender, it's a bit of a different thing if they're seriously considering them as a partner for future marriage. Although we try to not diverse too much since we don't want to take the story into different turns, those things will get some attention at a few places in the story!

  10. Denuvo was tried to be used on eroge before but then it got cancelled for some reason and people boycott that game still pretty hard. Currently the worst DRM is probably DMM player that requires players to be always online. DRMplayer probably the most annoying to crack currently but it isn't bad DRM. It is used on Phantom Trigger and Momoiro Closet for example. DRM is kinda whatever imo because companies such as Yuzusoft even don't use DRM because they know their game will sell and that DRM does nothing. Mostly stops Japanese people from sharing their games with a small friend ciecle (if using DRMplayer or such that is online verification.)

    Random VN: Mirai Nostalgia

Mirai Nostalgia is the game that turned Purple Soft around. After Ashita no Kimi to Au Tame ni, the company produced a number of middling and poor quality games, and it looked like Purple Software was going to fade into the background, like a lot of other companies that prospered during the 'Golden Age'. Then, all of the sudden, they released this game... and they regained the hearts of their followers, leading to a series of high quality releases, including Hapymaher, Amatsutsumi, and Aoi Tori. Mirai Nostalgia follows an extensive cast of characters... a group of friends centering primarily around the protagonist Youichi and Uta (called Hime by the rest of the group). Like most high quality VNs with a lot of SOL, the interactions with the friend characters and non-heroines are lively and vitally important to fleshing out the setting and characters as a group and as individuals. The Protagonist Kudou Youichi- Youichi is a lazy young man who is utterly incompetent at all forms of housework. He lives alone (at first) with the ancient bakeneko Kuro (who has apparently been alive for over a thousand years) and is a weak esper, possessing telekinesis and an unstable teleportation ability. In obedience to his family traditions, he keeps his powers hidden from all but those few others around him that also possess powers. Youichi is, by nature, a very calm, accepting individual who instinctively puts others first, often disregarding his own well-being if faced with the needs of others. He is also generally on the lowest rung of the family ladder (even the cat is above him), and he spends a lot of his time accommodating the females in his life (Shizuku and his little sisters especially). The Heroines Kasuga Iori- Iori is a traditional black-haired beauty and a miko... with an airgun and immensely powerful telekinetic abilities (think being able to erase someone from existence with pure kinetic force). She is also constantly threatening Youichi's life, for reasons she declines to mention to him, and her temper is almost always sharp-edged. She is definitely S by nature. Despite this apparently violent nature, she also has a deep capacity for love and compassion, and she is quite capable of forgiving a lot from those she cares about (though Youichi apparently pushes her over the edge). Hatori Uta- Youichi's osananajimi, the daughter of the CEO of a large electronics company, and the spiritual center of the group of friends that lies at the center of the story. She definitely marches by her own drummer, living life as she wants to live it and ignoring inconvenient realities completely. All of the group of friends can't help but love her, and she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She is a heavy gamer and loves nothing more than beating the shit out of Youichi in competitive gaming. Kudou Nono- The older of Youichi's twin stepsisters, a genkikko who does the vault in track and field. She loves to exercise, loves to eat, and loves her oniichan (not necessarily in that order, depending on her priorities at any given moment). She always has a smile on her face and can make friends with just about anyone. Kudou Hina- The younger of Youichi's twin stepsisters, a sharp-tongued beauty with glasses who rules the Kudou family with an iron fist. A natural dictator, she openly states that her goal is to become the next student council president and enslave the student body to her will. She adores her niisan, but she doesn't let that stop her from insulting him constantly and prodding him into doing what she wants him to do. Where Nono is the type that wears her heart on her sleeve, Hina is the type that has quiet depths beneath the surface. Anna- Anna is an esper who has traveled from the future to the past, in order to change the timeline she came from. She states that the future Youichi denied her confession of love, and she also presents herself as the most powerful esper in existence. She is generally a prankster, playful and easygoing, taking endless pleasure in teasing Youichi. However, she is quite obviously hiding a lot of things from him... She is also the true heroine. The Other Characters Hatori Ei- Uta's elder brother, a rootless wanderer who travels the world for years at a time. His generally irresponsible nature makes him the butt of jokes for most of the group of friends, and he and Shizuku are rivals for the position of 'elder caretakers' in the group. Hoshikawa Shizuku- The all-powerful student council president, Youichi's cousin, an immensely powerful clairvoyant, and the 'elder sister' of the group. Most of the group's members have resigned themselves to being her slaves, and when the whim takes her, she drags them all into her schemes and plots. She cares deeply about the other members of the group, but her position as an elder sister often puts her in the position of having to think of what is best for everyone. Sanada Kanata- The waitress at a local cafe, one of Youichi's osananajimis, and an infamous dojikko. She shines the most as the butt of jokes or when being dragged around by Shizuku or caught up in her schemes. Everybody teases her, but they all love her, too. Kase Touya- An unfortunate young man who finds himself in the same position as Kanata most of the time (the butt of jokes and getting dragged into trouble by Shizuku). While he is good-looking, because of his overly eager manner, most girls don't take him seriously, and he has yet to manage to get a girlfriend. He and Youichi often commiserate about their treatment by the girls in the group. Kuro- A thousand year old bakeneko (youkai cat) who has advised the Kudou family for generations and is one of the 'people' who raised Youichi. Once an immensely powerful youkai, time has taken its toll, and now he only retains the ability to speak mentally to those who possess esper abilities. Immensely dignified, wise, and gentle by nature, Youichi's trust in him as an advisor is absolute. While Kuro will advise if asked or if he thinks it is truly needed, he doesn't believe in 'holding the student's hand' (figuratively speaking) and is perfectly willing to sit back and let Youichi make his own mistakes. Kasuga Haru- Iori's mother, an easygoing nurse and sometime coach to the track and field team, she is an immensely strong person (mentally and spiritually). Her capacity for love is as deep and strong as her daughter's, and one can see the results in Iori's private interactions with her. She does share Iori's S side though. The story Mirai Nostalgia's story begins with the protagonist's first contact with Anna, the supposed 'girl from the future' and the return of his twin imoutos, Nono and Hina after several years apart. Soon after, he encounters Iori, and his peaceful life is suddenly overturned as a result. This is a nakige, much like the other games Purple Soft has made since, but its style is more 'traditional' (closer to the format Key pioneered, albeit with a stronger central story). My suggested play order for this game is Hina>Nono>Uta>Iori>Anna. The reasons are pretty obvious if you play the game, but I'll go ahead and outline them here. I basically put them in order from 'least relevant to the central story' to 'most relevant'. Hina's path is by far the weakest of the five, which is probably inevitable in retrospect (Hina's character is hard to grasp as a heroine). Nono is a bit stronger as a heroine, but the events leading up to the climax of the story felt forced in comparison to the events that led to her and Youichi becoming lovers. Uta's path is a bit more fantastical in some ways, mostly because of an unexpected turn of events caused by Uta's dependent personality. Iori's path... is emotionally powerful, not the least because it reveals the biggest reason why Anna returned to the past. Anna's path... is a cryfest. I cried through roughly a third of Anna's path both times I played this game, simply because it was just that good. The audio This game's music is slightly above the standard quality for commercial VNs, so it is noteworthy in that sense. However, this was also the VN where Purple Soft began to seriously typecast the company's favored voice actors (Kazane in particular), and so you can pretty much tell the personality of a Purple Soft character by the sound of their voice, in a generalized sense, lol. Visually The first time Purple Soft used Koku for their visuals was in this game, and for those who have played Hapymaher or Chrono Clock, the style will be familiar by now. Overall This game is a nice nakige with a strong mix of humorous slice of life and powerful emotional moments. If you want a good nakige to sit down and read through that is less moe-dependent than a Key VN, this is an excellent choice.

  15. It's great that some semblance of peace has finally come to light in the Korean Peninsula, but I fear for the situation in the rest of the world. Far in the west, in the Americas, a belligerent, jingoistic United States has its salivating visage locked onto the Middle East; beyond the former Iron Curtain to the East, mother Russia looms over Eastern Europe like a crazed den mother. War is hell, and casualties are everywhere. Soldiers, their brothers-in-arms, their mothers at home; all suffer and lament and cry out in pain and writhe and die. In these post-apocalyptic scenarios, these casualties are always considered. The human element and our compassion for fellow man is contained. But war and the waste of resources in its name kills something far more important to all of us here than any human: 2D anime porn. No doubt Moon Jai-In and Kim Jong-Un have recognised this, and that their proximity to Japan endangers its production, and thus made peace. I only hope that the rest of the world can do the same before we have to live in a world where I cannot walk in on underaged 18 year old anime girls while they're in the dressing room or on the toilet.

  16. A translator must be able to understand what they are reading, beyond just being able to look up a word in a dictionary. If your version of understanding the source text is nothing more than looking it up word by word in a dictionary, you will be doing the same as a machine translation would do. So, before you consider becoming a translator for a real project, you should get better at understanding the language in general, which is really only done by studying a lot, and reading natively written Japanese texts etc. In terms of how much kanji you need to know, that depends on what you're going to translate, and how serious you are about it. An official translator must know at least the 常用漢字 (common use kanji), and preferably even more, to truly comprehend what they are reading. But, for fan translators, the main part to focus on is the general understanding of the grammar and such in whatever you are translating. Looking up a kanji compound is significantly easier than learning an entirely new piece of grammar. Additionally, as many grammar forms in Japanese have many different meanings, without the proper knowledge, you could easily pick the wrong meaning/ usage when you simply look the grammar form up on the internet. So, first and foremost, it is important that you are capable of reading and understanding what you are translating. (So, if you want to translate a visual novel, start by reading the entire thing, and make sure you are capable of understanding it all. If you are, you can start looking into translating it.) Translating something without having read it first is never a good idea, anyways, as you'll be missing out on potentially important context etc.

  17. Hello there! It's not Friday, so it has to be an unusual post and it definitely is one... It will be a bit chaotic too - only now, late in the evening, after taking a day off and pursuing the only lesbian romance route in Tales of Aravorn: Seasons of the Wolf for most of it, I've realized that today is Lesbian Visibility Day. For me, both as a fan of yuri and as an appreciator of OELVNs it probably should be one important holiday - definitely worthy of a few moments/words of reflection. Visibility as something inherently positive is a curious idea. It's based on a very important and reasonable assumption, that to make something a public issue and fight for social change, you have to make people aware of that phenonenon's existence, scale and the consequences it might have for those most affected by it. To fight for the acceptance of gay people and systemic change that will give them equality before the law (and, hopefully, equality of opportunities), you cannot accept the conservative argument that sets sexual orientation as a purely "private" matter - the long-lived stance that wants people to visibly adhere to social "norm" and not "bother" others with the fact they're different. Most often, if you want your rights to be respected as a member of a minority group, you have to be loud, you have to be bold to the point of possibly being obnoxious and offensive to some people. You have to fight tooth-and-nail to make sure you won't be trampled by the majority's concepts of what's "normal" and "proper". In many Western countries, for lesbians that fight is to a large extent already "won" - the majority of people see them as a legitimate group worth respecting. Not everywhere though and it's not clear to what degree these gains are permanent. Hopefully? But is all visibility a good thing? Paraphrasing painfully accurate thought by @Fiddle, we don't really praise Adolf Hitler for bringing attention to Jewish issues in Mein Kampf. Yuri, is, obviously, not nazism. It's not in any inherent way a negative phenomenon for the lesbian cause. But it's also not automatically an ally of any progressive agenda. Japanese media is full of depictions of lesbian romance, which reaches a society that ignores LGBT issues in a way more persistent than pretty much any other highly developed country. For me, it's not especially surprising - just like the saturation of Pornhub with lesbian porn probably doesn't lead to people watching it going to their local Pride parade, fetishized, male-oriented yuri themes in anime and VNs do not have to translate into any kind of educated attitude towards RL queer women. And Japanese yuri, at least until recently, didn't really have an ambition of grounding its narrative into any kind of reality of homosexual romance. SonoHana series is the perfect example of completely isolated, imaginary "yuritopia" (to borrow a handy term from Yurirei), where a huge number of young females live in a world where males exists only in passing references, pretty much everyone's gay by default and there's no prejudice or social stigma connected to that fact - which, of course, make possible a gigantic number of voyeuristic porn scenes. Is it a bad thing by itself? Not really. Does it make people more aware of the situation of sexual minorities as a social issue? Hell no. Admittedly, some Japanese depictions of yuri romance are probably too lovely and heartwarming to say anything bad about them... Obviously, there's a lot of issues with representation of women in anime and VNs and I don't want to write a book here. I want to make a slightly different point and this goes to yuri romance in English VNs. This is also not a black and white picture - many EOLVNs directly copy the Japanese formula or give slight twists to it, while still keeping the "lesbian porn for guys" premise. However, for every Negligee and Sakura Fantasy our VN scene produces maybe even a couple of projects that are genuine expressions and/or appreciations of lesbian identity and realities of lesbian relationships. Throughout the various editions of Yuri Game Jam, NaNoRenO and in many commercial titles, I've seen lovely, touching, thought-provoking depictions of f/f romance that gave me huge pleasure as a reader, but also made me empathise with people different than me. Christine Love's work I think holds a special place here, with powerful and persuasive depictions of discrimination and her courage in exploring themes that commercial games rarely dare to go anywhere close to, from Analogue to Ladykiller in a Bind. Lately, Brianna Mei's Butterfly Soup gained similar notoriety, also through a genuine message and creative passion involved. But even small, cute and silly games such as those by Nami can have a genuinely positive role to play, confronting people with diversity in an approachable and lovely way. One other thing that OELVNs regularly prove to me is that some small, indie games can have more soul in them than many giant, high-budget productions... I, in all of this, have a pretty questionable position of a straight guy that finds lesbian romance lovely and, to a certain extent, hot. The more genuine the romance depicted is, the more I'm probably a bit of a creepy voyeur getting a high out of something that for other people is part of their identity. But no matter how we see that problem, this genuineness depicted above is something I absolutely love many yuri OELVNs for and a thing to be shared and appreciated. And that's my message for this day. Thank you for reading!

  18. Thank you! Though 'reasonable' seems a bit out of place in a thread like that. Oh, how did I do this? Magical girl for less than a day, and I already bring people pain... And my magical powers are so lacking that I can't even correct my mistake. How dare you bring up that impostor here! Let us all wait for the wonderful future together... ... before our hopes are shattered so quickly. Geez, didn't you read the title of this thread? Watashi wa Mahou Shoujo desu! Well, it counts if we consider it Himawari fanart.

  25. Hey, an otome/BL hybrid, that's a rare one! I do find the idea of it being otome most intriguing though, with a female protagonist having to assume authority as a royal tutor and navigate the political schemes in this setting. Do you plan to have any significant differences when it goes to dialogue and how the protagonist is treated depending on their gender?

  26. Gah - you were so right. I just finished it (Mask of Deception) earlier today and man, that ending... That ending!!! Now I *REALLY* want to read Mask of Truth but seeing as I want a physical copy I'll have to wait a bit to get it which is a bit frustrating as I want to read it right now lol... Such a great read, though, and it was really fun. It had me hooked pretty well towards the end, and I really enjoyed it. Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception ending spoilers That was actually a really good VN, come to think of it.

  27. I don't trust NK and honestly I don't see how anything could be improving geopolitically in this hellscape that is our current situation. (Living in Turkey, I've seen our president claim the economy's glorious while our currency's plummeting in value while we took in 3 million Syrian refugees (a good thing!) and then see our government try to use the very same refugees as bartering chips for visas with the EU, an occupation in Syria that I'm not sure if is perpetuating or eradicating terrorism, while Trump and Putin still do their well-known shit.) But I hope this is just me being edgy

  28. This is not the first time NK has made overtures of peace. They did it with Kim Dae Jung and Noh Moo Hyun and there's nothing to say for sure they're not trying it again. Until the DMZ is officially demilitarized and they send the soldiers home, the war is still on. The US aren't going to leave Korea, the Chinese military presence is way too strong. Seriously, look at what kind of crap they're up to in the South China sea, and their frequent skirmishes with other nations navies. They just keep prodding and poking for the proverbial chink in the armor and as long as Trump doesn't pull US forces out of this area, they'll be kept at bay. As much as I want peace on the peninsula if for my parents sake (they both live in Korea and I'm in China now), I'm viewing this world event with some intense skepticism. Got to be honest though, I spent a majority of my childhood and college years in Korea, and have lived with the thread of NK for so long that most people don't even consider them much of a threat. (also, keep in mind that most of SK men have undergone military service and still train even into their middle ages, so Korea's got a huge army, reserve or otherwise. Regardless, the US isn't going to withdraw their troops and SK isn't going to ask them, they're not fucking stupid.)

  29. I wanted to drop by and leave a quick update. When we set the contest up a month ago--over a month ago!--we were in a very different place. We were looking for some exposure, and some eyeballs, and we had a lot more free time. Since then, we've shifted the hook of our game from erotic/voiced to community-developed, and we're streaming (and creating) 9 hours a day, 7 days a week! Our poor artist, Ivy, has not had a lot of time to breathe, so it's been challenging to find time to draw this out. I spoke with her this morning, and we settled on putting some time aside each day after stream so she can get this done. You can expect your prize by May 5th at the latest, @MaggieROBOT; it'll probably be a day or two earlier, even. Thanks for being so patient with us, and so much love to you all!

  30. yeah the original vision of an agrarian empire with slavery from coast to coast? or the original vision of a commercial elite with the disinterested best men of society running the show?

  31. Best of luck to you with obtaining your freedom! I've been MMO clean for something like four years now, and it constantly amazes me what I can do with all the time I've suddenly reclaimed and all the actually new experiences I get to have, instead of spending all my time doing the same old things over and over again for meaningless digital trinkets.

  33. I seconded Clephas's recommendations here, and while I'm at it I'll recommend Yumina as well. For more recommendations, I can recommend Daibanchou as well here seeing that it also have same element as both of Kichikuou Rance and Sengoku Rance. Also if you want easier battle, I think you can try Mamatoto as well although the story is quite cliche though. I hope my recommendations will be helpful to you. PS (4/30) - I did forget to add Bunny Black here. For the info, it's gameplay VN as well with the MC (Darx) is almost resembled Rance. You can play the sequel as well (Also translated like the first Bunny Black).

  34. Quite a hard topic to discuss at VN forum here lol. That said, I also a bit of confused though why that NK suddenly propose peace agreement after their actions, especially when Kim Jong Un did many controversial actions recently that involved get rid of his family members because they have different opinion. So maybe what Tymmur said about hidden potential motive might be true, but regardless of Kim Jong Un motive for his action I hope that something good will come from this, and especially for the sake of Korean citizenship whose already separated fo almost 65 years.

    The korean war is over.

I think declaring that the war is over is a bit presumptive, these are just a tentative step towards peace talks. It's not the first time this is happened and it might not be the last time. Let's wait till later in the year to see if peace actually does happen, still it's progress.

  38. Or rather they can now invade Japan together and take over the eroge industry as war reparations for WW 2. Would be interesting, Korean VNs are pretty cool. It is super-interesting though and I absolutely don't understand where North Korea is going with this. I didn't think I would live to see a formal peace agreement in my life as long as the NK dictatorship is in place. We'll see whether it's anything more than an empty gesture to solicit economic concessions from the South Korea and the West. I have little hope in that regard, but let's not be overly pessimistic...

    About being a translator.

^ well, But hell, I kind of agree with the availability point. Some time ago I was looking at the translation bounties on exhentai for something to tl, and this really attractively bountied one had been on the list for a long while. It was kinda weird to my degenerate self, but I guess it being and old guy and a loli turned most people off, lol.

  41. Outside of new releases, I usually try to avoid reviewing bad OELVNs in-detail, unless they’re especially interesting or notable despite their failures – after all, in any semi-amateur game development scene, the poorly-made, misguided or horribly iterative titles will be far more numerous than those actually worthy of your attention. Writing that much about the former, especially when my goal is to promote OELVNs as a niche worth exploring, is arguably a waste of time and possibly even counter-productive. However, just like Carpe Diem: Reboot, today’s game is a great opportunity to look at some problems and tropes very characteristic of the Western VN scene, in a game that actually had the production values and traces of genuine effort that should at least make it an average, reasonably enjoyable product. And the sin that made it ultimately fail was not silly writing that plagued Carpe Diem, but something arguably even worse – boredom. Sweet Volley High, developed by New West Games and released on Steam in October 2016, was marketed as a “yuri/otome Visual Novel”, featuring a female protagonist and both female and male romance options. While some might already feel unease about such use of the terms "yuri" and "otome", both of which usually denotes a bit more than just romantic configurations available, it hints at a much deeper problems – game’s utter lack of personality and very poor use of the themes it tries to tackle. While trying to appeal to a broad audience, in reality, it wasn’t able to replicate the appeal of neither yuri nor otome games, just as it didn’t manage to create a satisfying alternative to those formulas. But, why exactly is that the case? Read the full article at evnchronicles.blogspot.com

    About being a translator.

Raw translation requires at least a solid grasp of Japanese grammar (grammar being all-important), the ability to write comprehensible English prose, and the ability to transfer the meaning from the Japanese grammar system to the English one. I'm going to be straight with you... if you can't at the very least play the average charage without even once referring to a dictionary, you shouldn't be translating VNs. I don't mean skimming it either... I mean understanding every sentence without having to spend a minute thinking about it. There are plenty of people who play VNs in Japanese who don't have this level of comprehension, so don't think that just because you can play the VNs while using a parser and occasional mechanical translation aids that you can translate a VN. If you want to one day become a translator, your first task, above all other things, is to master the grammar. Just learning words doesn't mean anything when it comes to translation. In addition, even if you don't memorize all the kanji (something very few Japanese ever manage), you need to be able to grasp how kanji go together to form words on a gut level, not just an intellectual one. If you can't tell by the context and the kanji when a different meaning of the same phonetic phrase is being used, then you will repeatedly make the same mistakes.

  43. So I finished reading Doki Doki Literature Club!. I felt I needed to read it after all the attention it has been getting and to get a break from reading the massive novel Sakura no Uta and yeah it was kind of what I expected after having been spoiled about all the major plot points. I still enjoyed it though. Still definitely an impressive feat for an OELVN and something of an eye-opener for my view of the "genre" (my first VN was Katawa Shoujo but since then I have not read a single one). I guess the game is too short for me to really make a thorough review of my opinions so I will just stick to leaving this small notice.

  44. The game was already available at both of Steam store and Mangagamer shop, so in case you still didn't have this VN you may purchase it from those stores. Congratulation for the releases, and I hope that we'll get the continuation of Chuusotsu here.

  46. i mean, moenovel gets paid for their shit tls so how much worse can you do? so long as the final work is cohesive and remains true to the final translation, you should be good. dont be like grisaia and add shit you think would make the scene funnier or better. thats you projecting your own standards on others work.
