  1. Here, a dash of cuteness to briefly brighten your miserable existence

  2. I've reached out to the people involved and encouraged them to contact the moderator investigating this issue. I encourage anyone else to report their complaints from unresolved moderation issues--abuse-related or not, publicly here or privately via PM--to assist the investigation. As Dergonu points out, this is second-hand info that I can't verify myself due to the nature of moderation. It could just be a problem of optics. However, moderators can see "removed" posts so they'll be able to get to the bottom of this--as long as they have a thread title to investigate.

  3. Since we already have the exact release date announcement, rather than make another thread I decided to bump mod Clephas thread in regard of this. To me it's definitely the good news here, so I would wait until July 12th later. Feel free to talk what expectation (Or experience) that you have in regard of Hapymaher. Oh, and here's the tweet from Mangagamer for the proof below. https://twitter.com/MangaGamer/status/1007110766909157376

  5. Being one of the voices that pushes this VN the most loudly as Purple Soft's single best work (by several degrees), I was immensely glad to see that this was getting a localization from Mangagamer. This was my VN of the Year for 2013 and it has by far the best soundtrack I've ever seen in a VN, period. Not only that, but I've never come across a VN that utilized its soundtrack so effectively to stimulate emotion in-sync with the story before, so it was in some ways my awakening to the fact that there were still music directors who could 'do the work' around outside of the makers of the Drakengard and Nier jrpg series. This VN focuses on the reality-blurring experiences of Tohru, a young man who sees nothing but lucid dreams (dreams where you are aware that you are in a dream) and suffers from physical and mental health issues as a result, and his group of female friends/acquaintances. The VN itself is something of a mindfuck experience, mostly because the line between dreams and reality is so vague to the protagonist himself. If you want my translation of the first scene, go here (the narrated videos are dead, but meh): I also did introductions for the protagonist and Maia, two of the major characters.

  6. I just finished Crescendo It was good, though a little bit short. With some after-credits epilogues it would be much better, but still I enjoyed it. First I went with Kaho/Kyoko route (Kaho's ending, Kyoko's ending and then neutral ending). It was OK, from that pair I think I liked Kyoko's route more. Kaho's part of the route was also good. And even so-called "bad ending" for this route wasn't really bad, it is more of "normal/neutral" ending, and actually has rather happy feeling to it as well. That route was your typical school romance story. The other three get much heavier. Yuka's route is probably the best in whole VN. She does rather bad first impression - so I felt about her the same as protagonist did. But when you enter her route, prepare yourself for a ride... I don't want to spoil the whole story. Probably most emotional moment in this route for me was And then at the end there's hidden Miyu's route, that hits hard with some KeyMagicTM - the ending actually made me cry. *** The game looks good. I had to get used to art style - those eyes looked weird at the beginning, but after a while it was OK, and the girls were really beautiful. It actually looked better than screenshots on VNDB - I'm not sure why is it like that. Backgrounds are nice too. There were two CGs where bodies defied laws of physics (or some parts were badly dislocated ) Other than that - no complaints. I really liked the music - it set the mood well. For some reason, it reminded me of Katawa Shoujo. I know that music in KS is actually different, but I got similar feelings. Localization could use some more editing - it was readable, but there were lots of awkward phrases. And it suffers from siimilar bug as Kazoku Keikaku - there is one missing line in Miyu's route, where there's voice but no text at all. Overally - good, although I wish it was a bit longer. 8/10 I'm not sure what to read next. Maybe I'll take short break from VNs waiting for summer Steam sale, and then get Clannad and Symphonic Rain.

    What are you playing?

Finished Misaki's route in Fureraba. That was the best route I've read too. That ending was pretty cute too.

  8. I'll say this first off... this game actually needed locked paths or a true ending. Like most Windmill games, the character interactions are pretty heavily reliant on easygoing manzai humor and running character personality and behavior jokes (in fact, most VN humor is based on that). This game has a cast of four writers (one amateur, one h-scene specialist, and two established names), including Imashina Rio (Gin'iro Haruka and Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai) and Kagami Yuu (ef, Eden*, and Mirai Nostalgia). Unfortunately, the styles of the two main writers are extremely different, and it is rather blatant when things shift... sometimes in the middle of scenes (this can be jarring and disturbs the flow at times). Understand, I started out liking this game... I like non-city settings (for some reason, city locales always end up being multi-date ichaicha fests even for heroines who wouldn't be interested in that kind of thing), and the interactions with the heroines and side-characters were amusing. I even still liked how things were going early in my first heroine path (Serina), but after I headed into a second path, it became apparent they were abusing the 'osananajimi is scared of friend group falling apart' trope. Oh, the way they abused it is different in each path, but the abuse is so rampant that I had to wince. Worse, the characters have these pretty much useless powers that only work on each other. All the paths have the powers as part of the central conflict, but, considering how little the characters seemed to care about their powers in the common route (one way or the other) it felt unnatural how they became central in the actual heroine routes. Understand, I'm a fantasy freak, so characters having powers is (of course) fine with me... what bothered me was the artificial-feeling limitations and the way the characters so blithely accepted a revelation midway through the path that would have turned most games a bit gloomy. Again, what's worse is that this was seemingly only utilized conveniently to explain why the other girls (all of whom are latently in love with the protagonist) stop pursuing him once you get on a particular heroine path. I will say the way they did it was mildly funny (the pseudo-yuri in Himari's path was lol-worthy for instance), but it felt very, very forced to me. Another issue is that Rinka is rather blatantly the main heroine (the scene I mentioned above makes that very clear). As a result, all the other paths proceed without resolving the issue of just why that certain event and the issues it brought to the surface came into being. Of course, as a result, Rinka's path is a very obvious 'true path' and blows away all the others in terms of quality (and length), drawing on elements from the other paths that hinted around the edges about what is revealed in Rinka's path. Anyone who plays this game should either only play Rinka's path or play the other paths first (like I did). While the paths other than Rinka's have some serious issues (the biggest one being choppy pacing and poor use of the setting elements and plot devices), Rinka's path and the common route are definitely worth playing. Sadly, I can't recommend this one for VN of the Month, but if you want a mildly funny plot-centric charage (yes, they coexist at times), this is a decent choice.

  10. This is certainly not good, but there is little for us to go on. Could you PM us the name of the user and the mod, so we can get to the bottom of this? I find it hard to believe that a mod on the current team would target a user out of spite/ because they disagreed with said users opinions. But, if this is true, it's certainly something we need to look into, to make sure it never repeats itself. Seeing as this appears to be second hand information from only the user's point of view, it's also possible it was perceived like an act of rogue moderation, when in reality there was more to it from the mod's point of view. (This ties into transparency with our moderation, which is something we're currently looking into doing something about.) If you could give us some more information, we'll look into this for you. Like it stands now, it's just accusations of a pretty serious moderation violation, without any way for us to provide context/ explain what actually happened.

  11. A friend told me about an episode of perceived moderator abuse, where he got in an argument over a topical matter (not related to Fuwa rules) and moderators started removing his posts over what he perceived as simple disagreement. This was one of those hot-button topics in the VN scene where there's supposedly a "right" answer (known to "true" fans, such as our dear moderators), and the position held by normies is "wrong". This person is not the type to engage in incendiary rhetoric, and he's also important in the scene and could've been helpful to Fuwa. Furthermore, this doesn't appear to be an isolated incident. I'm hearing that multiple people with standing in the community and no reason to go around flinging mud and breaking rules have been complaining about Fuwa moderation. Coincidentally, these incidents all seem to involve one particular moderator. These sorts of incidents would bother me as a matter of principle under any circumstances, but in this case it's not just a matter of principle. Such practices actually risk doing lasting harm to the community here. Many users are not going to stand and fight when confronted with (perceived) moderation abuses. They'll just leave and bad-mouth Fuwa to all their friends, causing a Balkanization of the fanbase. Fuwanovel was supposed to be a place where users from all parts of the community can come together to discuss in a non-toxic environment--not one where certain cliques and opinions are favored by moderation and others are actively excluded.
