AX 2019 Schedule and Announcements
SaintOfVoid and one other reacted to Dreamysyu for a topic
Well, Robotic Notes is pretty much the only announcement this year that I consider worth waiting for. And if I remember correctly AX last year was also pretty weak. I feel like I'm starting to understand "Learn Japanese!" crowd.2 points -

Sol Press news roundup! New Announcements: Witch's Garden Hyper→Highspeed→Genius Happiness! 2 Sakura Celebration Vikki Hornee: World's Horniest Housewife (Aprils Fool Release of Laplacian) Also they have thrown out release dates for almost all of their previous announcements: Yotsunoha - Now My Fair Princess - August 16th, 2019 Onii Kiss - September 27th, 2019 Choose your Mistress - October 18th, 2019 Nukitashi - November 22th, 2019 Love Among the Sunflowers - February 2020 Those release dates are pretty bold. Last status update said that Nukitashi was 8% translated and Choose your Mistress 30%, so I have feeling that it's a bit to early for those release dates, but if its works out I am impressed.2 points -
I'm absolutely sure that Sol is having some financial difficulties but at the same time "one release in a month" is a fairly normal practice, it's not something extraordinary by itself. That's what MangaGamer is doing (or at least consistently tries to if there are no unexpected troubles) for the last couple of years. Sekai's Majokoi, 9-nine- ep. 2, Nanairo Reincarnation, Baldr Sky and Ley Line 2-3 are all currently set to release in the second half of 2019 While I did say that "one release in a month" is nothing extraordinary by itself, if everyone on the market were to suddenly use this schedule for half a year, it would surely look spectacular. But nah, I'm sure we have nothing to worry about. I'm not an expert on the market but I don't believe it will collapse or anything. Sure, some will titles will probably underperform (they always do) but this market is so niche and passionate that I doubt that they will go deep under the red line plus steam will help to add sales over time, steam sales are often not front-loaded at all. Honestly, western eroge market is very weird, inconsistent and at times almost too random for analysis. You can have a big hit and then fail miserably with its sequel or a similar project. A lot rides on whether you can suddenly get under the spotlight (not even necessarily during the initial release) and saddle that wave to the good sales. Most titles don't and underperform from what I can gather, besides it's almost impossible to amass actually good sales without steam which is, again, not even necessarily a front-loaded platfrorm. I'm not sure if the success rate is going to be any different when we have a few times more VNs than usual, I'd argue that the overall ratio probably won't change much, those crumbs the industry mostly survives on will likely remain the same crumbs. Not to mention that I fully expect half of the releases to peacefully migrate into the 2020 as usual.1 point

Quite a bold confidence statements there, Sol Press. I mean at least I can see that they can release My Fair Princess (Kimiaogi) and Onikiss at that date is quite reasonable seeing that both of those are already more than three quarter translated (The former was already finish the translation), but for the first glance I think it's hard to see that they'll release Chose Your Mistress (Shitsuaru) and Nukitashi so hopefully Sol Press did have some plan for those two. As for Yotsunoha release, well there's still none although perhaps we can purchase it later now that Sol Press did cooperate with Denpasoft and Fakku. I see that they picked Windmill there, and that they also pick Witch's Garden in which if we remember is dead. I don't know though whether they'll use the new translation or not, so perhaps we'll see about it later. They also pick two other announcements, and apparently all f those two did have superpower setting. As for Windmill VN, I can say that they sort of have unique setting that mix supernatural with sci-fi, at least looking from the three VNs that Sol Press announced along with Sankaime (I sort of hope that Sol Press would announced it, if only to allow non-Japanese and non-Indonesian to play it). I'll look forward to eventual all of Windmill VNs release by Sol Press later. No comment much comment in regard of nukige that was released by Laplacian, other than it's logical for Sol Press to license all Laplacian VN. PS - I'll sort my preference on the announcements later, although overall I can say that Sol Press here is surprisingly quite forward with their announcements.1 point -

Damn ninjas. Was in the middle of transcribing the exact same list! Quit reading my mind like that; you'll go blind. They also announced this Bunny Girl game and gave it a release date (Sept 6, 2019). And I'm not sure what 'kimihime' is, probably one of their LN's? [Edit: it's My Fair Princess] It's got a date also - August 16th.1 point -

Mm... I probably won't ever skip it... even if it is a dupe or a junk SSR, it is still a guaranteed SSR. I'll probably bombard the Scathach limited summon at the beginning of next year for my favorite character in THIS game... I won't be able to resist. I've been able to resist most of the recent summon campaigns, because, thankfully, there haven't been any really good ones. However, I do have weak spots for evil women Servants and badass female Servants in general. Edit: I buy about two or three less VNs a month now than I used to, so if I feel like it, I have the budget... but most Servants aren't worth it, lol. I'd rather just build up the free ones (edit: saint crystals) and buy ebooks on Kindle instead. Games like this eat at my collector's soul, so if I want to actually enjoy this game rather than just being obsessed, it is pretty much a basic requirement that I don't spend on any but the ones I want the most... or when I'm guaranteed a result, like today.1 point

I know I said that but, oh boy, just how disappointing can you even get I can enjoy AliceSoft games like any other guy, at least I did more or less enjoy Evenicle. It's just too funny how they can't release Sengoku Rance for like 2 years already but keep announcing more, more, more AND MORE of Rance. Did they spend all their eroge budget on Rance so they ended up having nothing else of note to announce for the 2018 and 2019? Well, except Byakko but we know that it was actually acquired ages ago together with SukiSuki. Darn, I miss the times when I could always get excited about a MangaGamer panel, nowadays I feel like even JAST have a better chance of fluking an interesting announcement, especially since they do hold hostage all those Nitro+ licenses. On another note, maybe I'll try Mugen Renkan someday but since I'm one of those people who consider both Kuroinu (well, duh) and Euphoria a nukige fetish fodder with a barely serviceable story, my expectations are set veeeeeery low.1 point
