Is there any anime you would want to live in?
Abyssal Monkey replied to Justin579's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
Honestly, I would rather live in an action world rather than one based around harem. Sure a harem would be fun... for a while. Then you would get bored of living like a king and search out some other form of entertainment. This is why both my choices basically revolve around almost infinite possibilities with a focus on multiple worlds. I honestly don't think I would ever get bored of world traveling. -

Instituted Romance Action Adventure

So most action/adventure manga is about the growth of characters. With shonen, it's typically about the boy growing up to face his environment and then turning into am adult. With seinen its focused on the relationships between the characters rather than the environment. In any case, almost all the series with romance culminate with the two characters facing the relationship they have with each other and either accept it or ending with it being undecided. Challenge time: I'm looking for a series where from the onset both characters are in some sort of romantic relationship and are working together to deal with the problems. You only get partial credit for series where the couple hooks up somewhere in the middle. Just to make it more difficult, I'm stealing the freebie that is Twin Star Exorcists which falls into the shounen demographic. GO!

There are way too many settings in which I could instantly and immediately adapt to living in. If I had to pick, it wouldn't be an anime though, it would be the multiverse of Hero BBS. The entire setup of the series is endlessly entertaining, and as a baptism you would have to have gone through the trial of actually becoming a hero. Did I say endless entertainment already? Because endless entertainment. -
What are you listening to right now?

http://www.radiolab.org/story/darkode/ Radio lab is so god damn wonderful. You should feel bad for not listening. You are missing out. -
I was actually intending too. Even if just to retype it on the forums in a fun fashion. Like Zehbra's recap is really only the 20% of it. It's quite literally top major recaps, all the fun minor details are left out.

Heavy armor like full plates weren't for impenetrability. Arrows could still quite easily penetrate you. It was mostly for deflecting sword strikes. Same goes for the shield, lighter shields were only ever meant to parry, and do nothing else. The reason why they had 20 pound shields is to block cavalry charges and keep that spear from penetrating your armor and instead have the shield take the blow for you. I realize we are probably arguing over non-essential details, and still agree on the main point that having a shield would make the action scenes a lot more boring though.

This is humorous and blatant leading questions. Yes, because I use it to check my email to see what my college professor may have sent out. I also charge it next to my bed on my bedstand. It literally replaces my housephone. I often play games and read when I'm bored too. Both excellent uses of time, and both what a smartphone was designed to deliver. Considering the fact that smartphones are supplanting the need for desktop computers, and everything they are used for in a standard profession, yes I do. I also go into a panic when I lose my wallet which only contains my driver's license, student ID, and maybe $10. I better well damn panic when I lose my phone which is worth $400 Clearly the good docter who went to school in business knows how to psychologically evaluate people who have real addictions This is what a $300 phone looks like. Silicon prettier than jewelry if you ask me.

Looking at the list, besides your typical shonen harem romcom type shows, I doubt it. Edit: The first episodes: Heavy Object - I knew since I first picked up the book and then promptly dropped it after the first chapter that the only way I would ever watch this series or even start it was with the anime. Seems like I wasn't wrong. Knowing that it is by the same author as Magical Index almost certainly relegates the hero to a savior complex, but nonetheless seems somewhat interesting. Concrete Revolutio - Well then, this one turned out to be well within my predictions. The only upset was that a female appears to be the main character instead of the male. The super hero format seems nice and fun, and I don't think I'll get tired of the future-past setup of the show any time soon. I might just be a sucker for that type of theme, Punchline did it and I enjoyed that, and now this one is doing it too. Comet Lucifer - This one was well outside my expectations. I was not expecting what appears to be mecha Sacred Seven with a loli mediator. I was hoping for something more along the lines of modern magical adventure than mecha. It honestly came off as an inferior rip-off of Eureka Seven. Will probably be dropping this one by episode 3, the mecha in it is really what kills it for me as it seems way over excessive. There is no need to drag in different genres if you are just going to daisy chain them together. In this respect Dragonaut has already done better than this one. Lances 'n' Masques - This one was by far the surprising one. I was expecting typical shonen superhero, something like Infinite Stratos or Seikoku no Dragnar, a la typical light novel fashion. Instead I get a conditioned young (I don't even know with this artstyle, maybe he is 12?) boy who literally "white knights" anytime he hears a scream. With the main character being an even younger girl, like age 6, it really gives off more of a fairy tale feeling than anything else. So far it's enjoyable, and I look forward to seeing how this one plays out. For both Magic Knights and Asterisk, as I've already read all the translated source material, I don't have much to criticize them on, though Magic Knights seems to be off to a far better start than Asterisk in my opinion. The opening sequence with Asterisk having the MC's character fight somebody and basically implies she died in the fight really pisses me off considering that her current state is just "assumed missing" in the light novels so far. Purely based on that alone, I seriously doubt that it will end up with a second season.

He doesn't attack with the shield. Correction: he CAN'T attack with the shield. The restriction on him being the hero of the shield means that he is 100% pure tank. He can only use other means to attack such as relying on terrain and other people. Any direct damage he deals is utterly negated. As for your original question, the anecdotal reason why most protagonists don't use a shield is that it severely inhibits mobility. Having to carry a 20 pound shield in order to block attacks would cause the protagonist to dramatically slow down. Ever notice why protagonists mostly wear leather armor? Same reason. The other possible reason I can think of is that by narratively reducing the protagonist's direct defense capability in favor of agility would increase the tension in any action scene. You must dodge or get defeated. working on this principle adds a lot of tension if the author didn't layer the protagonist in ample amounts of plot armor. You know, at some point there was a scene in SAO that demonstrated this point excellently. During one of the boss fights there was a wall of shields that their whole purpose was to get hit by the enemy boss. Nobody wants to self insert into that kind of character, and thus that type of character has fallen out of fashion. To really get down to the core of the matter though, you might want to compare and contemplate why something like this exists.

Don't feed the ignorant troll. Feed the ones that rape your wives and children for seedbeds! http://exhentai.org/g/804052/05086d1cfb/

This also comes with the implication that Magic Knight is backed with actual romance and is not pure girl collection by Mr. OP MC-sama. With that being said, I haven't seen anything so far. Off to the downloads!

Most manga scanalators are kind enough to redact the downloads and viewership of licensed manga, so unless you want to go to an aggregation website that doesn't like to comply with probable DMCA, you cant find it. You likely wont find it other than torrents or shady manga aggregators.

Confession: The amount of people who have asked for a translation of additional content for KoiRizo even after it has been stated in the thread that MDZ is probably done with VNTL is utterly astounding. Confession 2: When I first started rampantly gathering my music collection from anime/game sources about two years ago, I only picked up the vocal ones and trashed the instrumentals if it had a vocal version. I'm still feeling the pain from this, with my current notable example that I'm listening to, Connect from Madoka, is missing it's instrumental counterpart. I'm going to have to rebuild my music library from the ground up because of this decision.

The UN Wants To Censor The Entire Internet
Abyssal Monkey replied to XionsProphecy's topic in General Discussion
From the hell that I came from, why doesn't anyone understand that the internet is a place where you create your own boundaries. The internet is a place where you can literally walk away from it. You don't have the right to be on it, you have the right to ignore it. Every time I see any type of piece on cyber bullying I want to punch the person who brought it up. No one is forcing it upon you like say, a bully in school would, so any kind of maladies are simply ignored. If you can't ignore them then that makes you weak as a person. If anyone wants to try and censor the internet, I say good luck to ye. Creating an encryption is a lot easier than trying to crack one, so have fun when everything is running encrypted through servers so you can't edit it, and when people start hosting themselves, you are screwed. You can't prevent me from accessing a network you have no control over.
