  1. If it's specifically trends you wish to see of latest shows based on current viewers' popularity, ANN do a plot of trends. See an example in this post: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2016-02-16/the-best-and-worst-of-the-season-so-far-week-of-feb-5-11/.98756
  2. Now watching Natsume Yuujinchou. It rated really well, especially in the later seasons so I'm hopeful. So far it's been good and seems to be improving, though I doubt it's something I'd bother rewatching with my wife. Hard to find things that tick boxes for both of us (like Kaleido Star did which I'm rewatching with my wife currently now).
  3. Also, do watch lovely complex (it's on your to be watched list?) it's very much romcom.
  4. Strictly speaking it just fits into the romance category but I'd hardly say it was a strong component of the story (nor was it very funny).
  5. Try Golden Time - more rom than com, college life, not school, mild drama, satisfying ending.
  6. I quite liked KS right from the start - in that "makes you smile" kind of way. I'm a sucker for well executed feel-good shows. But by no means did I feel the urge to watch many episodes in a row back then. The show grew gradually on me after that and probably started watching long stretches of episodes in the last arc of season 1 (up to episode 26). The first season everything goes well and is an easy watch. The second season has a lot more drama and new rivals which is initially irritating but like any well-executed storyline, that drama serves as a counterpoint for character development and it pulls it off really well. Ironically the irritating rivals made me start marathoning as nothing makes me happier than watch the heroine win (I'm a sucker for good endings no matter how obvious they are, provided they're pulled off well). The second season doesn't remotely go the way I expected. EDIT: Finished it. It was excellent by the end and well worth the journey. Highly recommended. As for Cross Game - anyone who's lived a life without watching this series has missed out. After I made my wife watch it, we hadn't even finished the series (50 episodes) and she asked if we could rewatch it immediately after the first viewing.
  7. Started watching Kaleido Star in an attempt to recreate the magic of Cross Game. It's not quite as good as cross game but it's still so engaging I'm having marathon sessions and will watch all 51 episodes in no time... Not many shows have that quality that makes you smile so much while watching them.
  8. Glad you liked it after (I believe) my recommendation. I'm a sucker for a satisfying completely unambiguous romantic ending without the usual tropes and Yui Horie being VA was a complete surprise for me since she's doing less and less lead romantic roles these days so it may well be one of her last "young" romantic heroine roles. I absolutely adore her work and love any voice acting she does. I found GT very satisfying on so many levels, and my wife enjoyed it too.
  9. Are there beggars in the game? Also suggest To Heart 2
  10. Light hearted VN -To heart 2 (but not HD, only 800x600).
  11. The twins in To Heart 2 are a tsundere+deredere combination.
  12. This is far enough into the season to declare the survivors this season that I will continue to watch to the end. As predicted it's overall pretty meh but there are still shows worth watching. Bear in mind I watch almost everything so for me to drop it means it was pretty bad. I even watch the shorts. Best shows highlighted. Ao no kanata - decent Prince of stride - okay (watching mainly for Kanazawa VA) Musaigen no phantom world - good fun (Hayami VA puts it up another notch) Kono suba - great fun Haruchika - okay Active raid - bare pass Shoujo tachi - okay Boku dake - excellent Dagashi kashi - okay (a let down cos it should have been awesome but is only okay) Pandora - silly but still okay Bubuki bunraki - bare pass but the computer aided animation is annoying Luck and logic - okay Dimension W - great Schwarzesmarken - okay Mahou shoujo - silly but decent Ojisan - okay Oshiete galko-chan - great Nijiiroi days - okay Ooya-san - okay Gate S2 - excellent Ansatsu kyoushitsu S2 - good Leftovers: Akagami no shirayuki hime - still good (Hayami VA raises its rating) Heavy object - still good Shows I tried to watch and gave up on Saijaku - wtf Norn 9 - oops Phantasy star 2 - ugh Divine gate - wtf Showa genroku - zero connection Nurse witch - oops Hai to gensou - snorefest Sekkou boys - meh Yamishibai - meh tabimachi - meh
  13. Recently there was "jitsu wa..." - "Actually I am..." where his crush is a vampire, and others not human, but they're in hiding unlike in Rosario so not entirely a monster school as such.
  14. Hitozuma hime club aka Secret wive's club. All older, all submissive. H heavy VN. https://jlist.com/gc013 https://vndb.org/v138
  15. Doesn't look like it will be... EDIT: Let's see... it might redeem itself.
  16. Inai machi is so good but it's getting harder to watch every episode it's so intense...
  17. It's quite okay, you don't have to force yourself to like it just because you like the original source material. I gave up on it because the anime is, well, dead shit boring.
  18. A spoiler's a spoiler. Don't make excuses. I'm not particularly amused even if I am bitterly disappointed by the sound of the ending.
  19. You're a moderator and you dropped that major spoiler bombshell openly like that? For shame.
  20. Well it is the country where nipples are made of soap bubbles and every tripping male doesn't follow the normal laws of physics and goes through a dimensional portal that always makes him end up on top of a girl with his hand on her boobs.
  21. Saekano is amusing and fun to watch with its fascinating characters and I'm looking forward to the rest of it. Shokomeza feels like a "me-too" anime and most of the characters so far have been uninspiring and it's barely more than a yawn-fest.
  22. To its credit, when Love Hina did it, it was original. Over a dozen years later, though, writers are still using this now very tired trope.
  23. Ash's slow pace for me, on the other hand, bored me to tears and I dropped it.
  24. Indeed there are quite a lot of these obvious plot devices, and sure you can make excuses for them, but the reality is the frequency of them is enough to push me over the edge. I singled out that particular one because I can no longer stand seeing it since it's everywhere. When the heroine asks the hero "what did you say?" I'd love for him to turn and say "actually it's you I prefer" out loud or whatever it was that he mumbled under his breath as that sort of relationship progress frankly turns me on whereas the nandemonai answer makes me want to smash the screen or drives me to drink...
  25. Without exaggerating, I've heard this annoying fucking plot device 3 times today already by the way (as per opening post)... and am ready to scream.
