Basically, this whole topic is a simple indirect kink-bashing under an imaginary excuse of "normalising" something, the thing you can see on those weird twitter accounts with kirby avatars whose day usually consists of going around and attacking people for enjoying the stuff they might consider problematic. I'm pretty sure the thoughtlessly hysterical stance of Funya is very harmful to humanity in general, a thing that leads to censoring any stuff the arbitrary hivemind doesn't like, an endless pitfall of sorts. You don't like certain themes and imagery? Avoid it. It's very easy to do nowadays. Making yourself look like a weird victim simply because you aren't capable of responsible consuption is such a childish thing to do that it doesn't deserve any real discussion. I am not interested in reading stuff like Euphoria, Starless or Maggot baits but that doesn't mean that community is somehow bad for liking those or that people should be banned from the discussion. The only possible advise here is to grow up and learn to differentiate reality from fiction.

AoKana Physical Kickstarter, Release Date and Other Updates
novurdim replied to Freestyle80's topic in Visual Novel Talk
On one hand, they are certainly right. On the other... I wanna know what are those "big" games Though I doubt that this scheme would work with companies like MG, JAST or Sekai since they likely don't know what schedule is to begin with. With all due respect and love to everyone involved. -
Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart English Release

Fruitbat don't publish/license the game so I have only meant that even though they don't release 18+ games themselves, they should still bring to the Harukaze's attention (who are basically self-publishing the game) that there's a very eager audience for the original 18+ version and plenty of platforms to sell it on. Since, you know, it looks like Harukaze have no meaningful interaction with the western audience whatsoever. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd even say that I generally like Fruitbat, they have released plenty of cool non-ero VNs like Chuusotsu or Seabed, sustain a somewhat decent TL/tech quality and the only game of theirs that originally had ero got the 18+ release on behalf of JAST anyway so it's not like they robbed you of anything. I'm only salty that they didn't bring Eiyuu Senki to the vita back in the day. Boo. -
Noteworthy releases are very few and far between either way, take your long deserved rest, mate. On that note, are you gonna play Girls Book Maker -Shiawase no Libretto- someday? It has Hino Wataru among the many writers and the concept can be fun... in theory at least. Sorry to bother you on your rest so quickly

Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart English Release
novurdim replied to Antera's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Based on how eroge companies generally operate regarding their western releases (especially when they have no "partner" to help them), I'd say simply asking them first would be the wise decision as japanese eroge pubs may not think of releasing a 18+ version for the most absurd reasons you can't even imagine in the right mind. Looking back, I'd even say they usually approach the release with the mentality of "of course we are going for the safe console version, why would we release porn in the wild west and ask for trouble?" and only then fans can sometimes manage to dissuade them. I have a very hard time believing that NoraNeko of all things (considering that all seiyuus in the game are the usual suspects) is exactly that legendary game which can't be released uncut due to the extreme licensing issues and it's not simply a case of "can't be bothered to go back to the basic preparations that late in the game". If there's no will, there obviously won't be a way. While true, it would be absurd to stall the steam release for another, say, six months simply because they didn't think of releasing 18+ version, it still means that if noone presses them about it, they'll just think that everything is marvellous and they are genious strategists. Especially since, as I understand it, they don't even look at the feedback, only Fruitbat does. Fruitbat that's not even releasing 18+ games to begin with. -

Just like most big eroges do. I'm pretty that they simply skipped the 18+ version during the planning stage and by now it's too much hassle to go back and re-negotiate anything for it. If it sells well they'll decide that they were right and we'll have a new Moenovel on our hands with (maybe?) a better TL quality. And if it bombs, they'll simply abandon the West as Harukaze aren't really invested in it yet. A true win-win situation. -
I honestly loved the second game more than the first: the trials are generally a lot better and more unpredictable (with the exclusion of the, erm, fourth?), the twists turn very well around the genre cliches and the knowledge of the first game betraying your expectations, characters are more likable and actually feel more *real* (the first's cast mostly looked like a sum of their archetypes tbh) etc. etc. To me, the first game seemed like a first attempt at writing something like this, while D2 actually let the potential fully shine through. Though Kodaka let them destroy the impression a fair bit with the horrible D3 anime, I still believe D2 to be the best in the series. But true, it is going overboard at times. And if you disliked that part of D2, well, V3 is basically going EXTREMELY OVERBOARD. With everything. I really liked parts of it but more often than not it felt like Kodaka ran out of decent ideas and was just trying too hard to impress the reader with random weirdness at this point. The feeling intensified with every chapter culminating in the completely nonsense wacko finale. My dominant impression from V3 is that Kodaka is simply too tired from Danganronpa. Still, some parts and ideas of V3 are great so yeah, I wouldn't recommend skipping it.

Just goes to show how questionable stylistic choices can destroy an otherwise acceptably accurate translation for a considerable chunk of the audience. Readers are not robots constantly analyzing the accuracy percent, after all, they just want to enjoy the stuff they read, and original obnoxious "style" of the translator can hamper that enjoyment a lot more than actual mistakes in the translation which they possibly wouldn't even notice without a TLC. Though, at the same time people occasionally complain about the stuff they wouldn't like in the japanese version either and project those dislikes on the translation so what do I know? The line is thin and the end is not in sight. Any work in a creative field is generally a thankless job so when you obtain the power to implement questionable ideas you personally like, it's easy to forget that you ultimately do this work for the people to enjoy.

You'll definitely hate V3

Dunno, I didn't read Fureraba either, but if the amount of unnecessary swearing and trash-talk that doesn't correlate with the original text is as big as some people say, it can be just as unreadable as TLs with "poor grammar, typos, and overall QC issues". This is really not the same as the endless honorifics debacle. And I'd say nowadays it's not wise to downplay relatively big issues for superficial reasons. Just as there are some pointlessly hypercritical people, there are even more customers who approve of literally anything and I'm not sure who are the more dangerous ones for the industry as shaky as VNs.

Sekai Project Anime Central (ACEN) 2019 Announcements
novurdim replied to Formlose Gestalt's topic in Visual Novel Talk
My main impression from their panel are two "oh god"-s. First is "oh god, so they decided to localize Kemono Musume instead of Karenai". Yeah, I know they hinted at the high possibility of other S&T tls in the future but we all know that with SP it'll likely take forever at best. And the second is Oh god, just how long are they going to torment that "basically finished" Nanairo Reincarnation. We are steadily slipping from the 1Q 2019 to 2020. -
Sure, it's not like switching the term to central heroine would change the point and magically make people more interested in the game. I just wanted to let you know that it's not a true route.
-
No-no, that's what I'm talking about, you are making up subjective terms using phrases like "it is to me" while those have long settled definitions. True route is just that - a real TRUE ending which makes every other route into what-if's, it's not something used to describe the most fleshed out heroine that has the most screen time. This term usually describes a story in plot-centered VNs, you can even call it a canon ending, not a girl that you think hogs all the attention. For everything else there's a "central heroine", if it was only used for VNs with a single heroine, this term wouldn't even exist as it would be fully consumed by a "single heroine" tag. I know the line can be blurry but I don't think calling Mitoko's route a true ending would be respectful to all those fine elders. Show some respect, son. Erm, just to be safe, I should probably mention that it was a joke. I love me some old hags ripe experienced women too sometimes! Life is too short to restrict yourself even in the works of fiction.
-
You are definitely confusing the meanings of "central heroine" and "true route". Look at it another way: since Mitoko's route is forced to be last, you won't even have to skip through it in order to enjoy your old hags ripe experienced women
-
Of course, but it's easy to identify them as a true route because the aforementioned VNs have an overaching fantasy storyline, a global plot to tie up, so to speak. I highly doubt there's anything like that in Damekoi, Mitoko may be a central heroine since her route is probably the longest and has the biggest focus but a true route is still usually something different, that's probably why Damekoi doesn't have any "true" tags. Though whether the other routes are enjoyable and fleshed out enough to stand on their own remains to be seen.

Ya, kudos to your country, creating one more way to get into a federal prison is a dream for most governments, in some places you can be put in prison for criticizing the nation's leader so we should probably avoid reading stuff that can theoretically put us under the suspicion of wrongthink, can't go against the law. Jokes aside, I can't really see myself indulging in the moral high ground to the point of passing up on a chance to finally read Maruto's VN and seeing for myself how he has handled the controversial themes (heck, eroges are immoral by definition for at the very least 9 out of 10 people of this world and at times even illegal, so it's actually a bit funny to me to discuss these things not in the terms of preferences but of morality and legality) but, as I've said before, knock yourself out, it's not healthy to force yourself to read something you definitely wouldn't enjoy. That's why we have variety in the world. Though I'm not convinced you can count Mitoko's as a true route in the usual sense of the word. Yes, it's definitely the most developed one and you have to read everything else to access it but all that doesn't make it a true route, there are likely different themes in every story which don't feel incomplete by themselves and it's not like you can't ignore the one you don't want to get in your personal moral jail for.

Since it looks like they don't mention the exact age in the game, going by these measures I'd say it's just as possible that she is 15 in the beginning (last middle school year) and 16 later (start of the high school) hence yeah, basically the same as the vast majority of eroge heroines, we do meet most of them in their first year of high school. But knock yourself out, it's not like everyone should be open minded about the age gap issue, there's a huge crowd out there that wants to ban even a recognized classic like Nabokov's Lolita. Admittedly, a bit of a shame that Damekoi's topic, of all things, should be so thoroughly polluted with this, it doesn't even feature any loli heroines and tackles its issues pretty seriously. But hopefully after the first real Maruto translation is finally out, we'll see more substantial discussions.
-
It doesn't, I was just under the impression that your ambitions extended further than that On the topic, after thinking on it for a moment, I find it excessively weird that we even have this conversation. What does it matter in a game like Damekoi? Say, Mitoko was a year older and a confirmed high schooler, would that magically make Damekoi not a pedo crap because you are not-a-pedo who is into high schoolers? Or does your definition of "pedo" boil down to being into a heroine that is younger than the MC? All this would have literally no impact on the content of the game but the underlying semantics is interesting.
-
That additional year is really not a fine line between wholesome and "arrest him, officer!", my friend. Besides, there's no mention of middle school on MG's site and I do also remember seeing her being called a high schooler in a review. I think I do? Wait, and here I thought you were the leading member of the "hot takes" brigade. I'm still immensely impressed by how you reached a conclusion that May wants to fuck her father in HGB.
-
Stormwolf's fixation on "pedo" is kind of hilarious when you consider that Mitoko is basically the same as 95% of eroge heroines that he never has any qualms about, the only big difference is that the MC is adult.
-
You do understand that this is basically like saying "Titanic's drama will be predictable since it's about wrecking a ship, mate" back in 1997, right?
-
Huh, expected Ciconia at a bigger con and maybe even next year, a lot of people will definitely be glad but I'm not sure if I'll be able to deal with Ryuukishi's designs and play the very first edition... On the other hand, guess MG wanted so hard to finally cash in on the catgirl slaves trend that they accidentally licensed two games at once. At this point I'm surprised they didn't also announce Koneko Neko Neko in that daze.

If I may, I'd like to ask you to put the names in the same order in both polls next time. It's very easy to misclick your voice just because you reflectively start associating your first choice with the placement if you don't actively keep attention to the details so... this way the voting is very unintuitive. Thanks.
