Is there a VN that left a big impact on you (posiitive or negative) ?
MikeY91 replied to MikeY91's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I have been watching anime my whole life, and started watching subbed anime instead of the dubbed ones for almost 7 years, ever sense then i had always been interested in learning Japanese, my main reason was cuz i wanted to watch anime without bothering to read the subs lol but now that i have been introduced to visual novels i feel like i must learn Japanese, like you said that will open many other possibilities to me, i know it is not gonna be too soon cuz i am studying now, but will surely be something that i really want to accomplish, plus it involves reading more vns and watching more Japanese anime so that won't be too bad right? Good idea , in my personal opinion, G-Senjou never made me very emotional, even the ending, i dunno but that's just me, the atmosphere didn't feel too sad for me, mainly because the protagonist and Haru were not too romantically invloved i guess. but nevertheless, i liked it. Glad to know i am not the only guy here who gets emotional reading vns lol but most of the time, when i read a sad vn, i don't cry but i just get depressed i would rather it being the other way around though cuz it relieves your tension, thats just my personal opinion though. i am looking forward to read Subahibi then I was looking forward to read that cuz i hear a lot about it but it seems like it's only available on DS. -

that's what I thought , another reason to learn Japanese then lol I have added that to my future list, I hear a lot about it so I will surely give it a try. Thanks. Dammit, and I got all excited for nothing , but yeah like I said I'm seriously considering learning Japanese, I mean I'm pretty sure I will always keep reading vns, so might as well learn the language. Thanks for all of your explanation there. -

Woaaaah we have got an NTR expert here i guess i have fallen to the dark side already looool so when i have the time to start reading NTR, i know who to ask btw i am not sure about this, but are there many english translated vns that fall under tat genre? i can't read Japanese lol but i remember one person here recommended me to read kawarazaki-ke no ichizoku , but sadly it was only in Japanese, i heard Elf vns are really good but they are not translated, so would you think i can find some good english translated ones or not? Edit: that person actually was @Xreaper -

damn, are you trying to tempt me here? cuz it is working lol well actually i was not familiar with term NTR so i had to google it but now i have a rough idea, i am actually quite interested...i am just wondering how serious the NTR genre is, like is it too depressing where they actually show the girls emotionally suffering and all that or is it more focused on the sex part? and by the way, would this kind of vns fall under nukige? (excuse my ignorance here lol) I wouldn't say i am a fan of rape... lol but really like i said depending on how serious the atmosphere is i might try and see how it goes. i mean i have played seriously some of the most depressing vns (Narcissu, Swan Song, Saya no Uta) so i am used to dark vns, but if the vn is solely focusen on raping the heroines or stuff like that i am not so sure XD -
Favorite Anime Voice Actors: Can be Subbed or Dubbed.
MikeY91 replied to Meanpandabomba's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
I have come across many amazing voice actors, can't remember anyone specifically right now, but it goes without saying that Japanese voice acting is absolutely superb. I am usually more impressed by female voice actresses, some voices are so damn sexy ! lol -
i am not into 'scat' and disgusting stuff, but the vn looks interesting, might give it a shot when it comes out. and it looks like it is uncensored? if so i would surely read it. i mean damn, no point of watching an h-scene if it is censored.

Your biggest turn-offs in visual novels?
MikeY91 replied to CeruleanGamer's topic in Visual Novel Talk
couldn't agree more there, the sex is always professional even when they're both virgins, could have been better if they at least showed a realistic side, maybe showing one if them screwing up from nervousness lol -

Most of the h scenes in VNs are just thrown in and unnecessary. I firmly believe they belong in nukige unless they actually add to the route which they rarely do. Also, how big are we talking cause I can handle stuff like this http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/thejusticeworld/images/f/f4/1941-1125314870.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120210124625 but I can't handle stuff like this http://ak-hdl.buzzfed.com/static/enhanced/webdr02/2013/8/21/14/anigif_enhanced-buzz-16793-1377109916-0.gif damn, honestly the second link...What the Hell is that?? Lool I don't know how some people find that attractive, not for me. the only heroine with reasonable large breasts I have seen would be Amane in Grisaia, I actually find that attractive. In fact I think all the heroines in Grisaia have realistic female bodies, I liked that. -

Same problem for me. H-scenes are of secondary importance for me, now Well there is always nukige to take care of my needs. Me too. I developed an immunity to H-scenes and nothing fazes me anymore unless it involves torture or domestic violence. hahaha I'm the same way, when I started playing vns the h-scenes used to have an "effect" on me if you know what I mean... now I just look at them like it's nothing. I wouldn't say violence will make a difference for me, maybe if it was a yuri scene then I'm good to go Lool -

Air is definitely on my future list, I'm also reading Grisaia right now, Muchiru's route was amazing. -

I am reading it right now, Michiru was amazing. i am doing Sachi's now, it's very good too. -
Sorry if something similar had been asked before. I will start with myself, so far i can't think of a VN that left a huge positive impact, i liked Katawa Shoujo and the happy endings were good, but on average i usually play depressing/messed up VNs so i have only myself to blame here. As for a VN that kinda messed me up for a while, that would be Narcissu, while i had a rough idea what that vn was about the ending caught me off guard and left me depressed for a few days, well mainly because a few years ago i had lost someone dear to me due to suicide, i wouldn't want anyone to go through what i had been through at that time. but if anything, Narcissu makes you truly appreciate life and why everyone should always accept the hardships in life, because there are always people whose only wish is just to stay alive... what about you guys?

Interesting you should ask, since the guy who started this topic was a bit of a mentor for me. Anyway, I've been self studying Japanese for around a year now. The way I studied was by learning the grammar (Tae Kim Grammar is a great guide), and then actually reading VNs with dictionary software. I still have a lot to learn, but my Japanese is now at the point when I can recognize most grammar (so long as it isn't complex/uncommon stuff). Words often get repeated, so you will naturally gain a vocabulary the more you read. Although, I've also taken to using flashcards as well. There are all sorts of methods on how you can efficiently retain vocab and new grammar you learn. But ultimately the most important thing to do is simply to expose yourself to the language (in other words read a lot with dictionaries and grammar guides to help you, until you eventually become less reliant on them). I see, aregato i will surely start learning Japanese once i have free time, i am very interested, and i blame Anime and vns for that lol in your opinion, linguistically, is the Japanese language better in terms of Visual Novels? i mean aside from the fact that vns being originally in Japanese and that sometimes the English translation sucks, between Japanese and English language, which one is more suited for visual novels? i am asking this because i know languages differ in terms of being descriptive, for example, between the Arabic Language and English, English stands no chance lol Arabic is very known for being one of the best languages in terms of being able to describe anything in a very creative way,.

help me out here ! do some people say Grills to refer to Girls or was the title just simple mistake? lol I saw this once on Reddit before and when I think about it, it's kinda true... "The joke is that grills and girls aren't really very different. A man gets to know his grill very well, if someone else tries to work his grill, it's laughable and yet troubling. He's possessive, he put in the work, the new guy is a fool, the new guy actually manages to make some good burgers with your grill, you have to face the truth that the special thing you had with your grill might've been mostly in your head. But ultimately, if something happens and your grill is no more, you can just get a new one for 99.99 at Sears and after a month or two, your relationship with the new grill will be exactly the same as with your old grill, that is, mostly in your head." LOOL you better not show that to a feminist now

Wow that was actually very good, are you an artist??

Swan Song was a masterpiece, period. definitely one of the very best vns, i doubt i will find anything like that soon in terms of realistic psychological behavior . I also fear i will run out of good vns cuz i can't read japanese right now, it is definitely on my future plans, i would like to explore all vns instead of limiting myself to English translated ones. how long did it take you to learn Japanese?

i was wondering too... was that a typo? cuz i noticed some other replies also said 'grils', i am confused
